I used a similar trailer ( Richie) for many years and consider it to be the best and cheapest option when using the flat eight system . I used to put the bottom layer of bales on edge and add two more making ten bales ,the stacks would stand for weeks without falling if work pressure required it A huge advantage of doing this was that the central spike could was not needed . It only took a few seconds to do this and also meant that you had 50 bales instead of 48 in each load . When moving straw i stacked seven layers which meant 58 bales ! I cannot remember ever losing a load when stacked like that .I moved about 12000 bales a year with just one machine !
Very effecient way of loading and unloading small square bales whether it be straw of hay! If you could take a look at my recent video which is stacking and baling hay Summer 2017 they are stacking them into stacks of 56 for this purpose!
