The scnario was that it was an UNKNOWN chemical. So BA without the proper chemical suits could only have contaminated the firefighters. They would only have had to touch the chemical on a casualty to be infected themselves - their fire-kit is not a chemical suit. Believe me, they knew what they were doing!! And there are reasons why there are procedures. It may seem long winded, but if they went charging in to an unknown chemical incident, they would end up casualties themselves.

If you want to know how mass casualty decon is supposed to look, look no further than 227 BEB CERFP. Our people get the job done quick. As for the complaints about the amount of time it takes, you can't even fathom the amount of moving parts involved in an exercise like this. Even the best units take over an hour to set up all the lanes required to get everyone taken care of. From what I can tell, they have good equipment. The casualty moving process could be a bit better though. The PAPR systems are quite different than ours, and the lanes should be much bigger. Not everyone has the same budget to work with, so anything that gets them contamination free is a good thing. Over all, I would say that they did a good job, and the lanes look nice and tight. Whoever that was that said they were self important should put their foot in their mouth, because they know nothing about how this process works.

Gen Speaking Thanks for that. This is quite an old video now. Over the years I have done more of these exercises with the fire service - some small exercises with just the fire service and some larger multi agency ones involving police, Secam, ( South East Coast Ambulance) etc.
My main filming is real incidents, and some of what I can publish is on my channel... and people still think they know better, and say how slow the firefighters react, no one seems alarmed etc.. why don't they run... so slow...they really do not understand things have a procedure, for reasons. I love the ones that say... "I'd have done this, I'd have done that.... all they had to do was..." with no training or knowledge whatsoever... but they know best!!

Yeah, people have no idea how those suits take their toll on ones body. I do this for the Army, and enjoy doing it. Keep up the good work, I'd love to see more of these videos.

I watched that it was a massive amount of equipment used this time they had time to prepare whilst a plane was still airborne. But again the amount of high viz jackets with umpteen different incident names on the back seemed as though they were self important with their many viz jacket names could create confusion. As I trained with Manchester fire service for my fire marshal cert it became evident that a real life situation does not go as a well planed exercise

Have a look at my exercise Triumph video for another, much larger chemical exercise, involving 4 fire services police amd NHS chemical teams at an airport.

Why don't these Fire officers use the power megaphone to make people hear them loudly................

I'd like to know why all your comments and my reply have all beem marked as spam!! As for throwing water - again, its an UNKNOWN substance - water could make the effects worse. Untill the chemical can be identified and the proper operations put into place, little can be done - harsh, but there are reasons. The full CBRN equipement is not always local and often there is traveling time ans always setting up time. The casualties must be contained untill they can be treated properly.

Hi it was not meant to be derogatory but its so so frustrating to see people in need of help seemingly left with life threatening circumstances they could have thrown water bottles or oxygen masks to those affected, remember the rule of the golden hour? It was only a exercise but the emergency services did not seem to be fast without panic & then disorganisation resulting from speed. With it being an exercise it just appears amateur. They did not seem comfy with the exercise, Great Vid though.

But the videos are perfect going some way to show the services in action, but it frightens me about major fires as I witnessed the Woolworth s fire in Manchester seeing people trapped behind barbed windows, ambulances driving on the pavement to get through traffic it was tragic.
In the hotel it does make me wonder how it would be in a real fire fortunately when having an alarm the fire service are there in minutes. Smoke and heat are the killers. Please keep posting the vids they are superb.

This video showed how slow the response is by EVERY DEPARTMENT.

It takes a long time to set up a response and construct everything. Just be glad you HAVE a response!

What a sham its like a comedy program , good job it wasn't real, Health & Safety gone totally mad!!! Why could the fire brigade not use their breathing apparatus if they did not want to risk breathing anything.
If it had been real every service would have been sued!!!
