I agree and you can bet your last dollar that I will be following Team Welcher as I always have . NPFL just won a new fan and I will be watching every tournament . Tight lines !
Dude you nailed it, for the few reasons you mentioned. Biggest mistake they all made was allowing it in the first place. FFS is incredible technology but has no place at the tournament level, my humble opinion of course.
I love that a business intellectual / bass fishing professional can inform intelligently and fairly on this topic. Just made me a fan. Finally someone who sees all angles. Thank you Kyle
I want to see the best professional anglers in the country showcase there talents. This was absolutely the right move and will definitely save the tackle industry. You’re 100% correct about electronics companies not giving back to the organizations and pros! Great discussion.
Kyle, thanks for the honesty. You said 2 things that are key to this whole debate: #1 - "Pros are looking at how FFS affects them personally and not the industry and competitive bass fishing as a whole." There is not a single pro on any of the tours who fell in love with fishing because of FFS. They fell in love with fishing because of the competition and cerebral aspects of the sport. Trying to figure out what goes under the water better than the other fisherman is what once motivated all of us. However, the advantage that FFS brings and the money that now goes with using it effectively has changed all that. This is why get so passionate about it. They love the money, not the sport. #2 - Paraphrased but you essentially said that, "FFS companies are not giving all the profits back to the pros." Again, the love of money is such a huge aspect of the debate, and many of the electronics companies are laughing all the way to the bank. As you said, they had a successful and profitable business model BEFORE forward facing sonar was a thing, so now they just keep the profits of FFS and grow richer. At the end of the day, FFS needs to be banned at all competitive levels of bass fishing. I can assure that they will still sell enough to crappie fisherman to be profitable.
I 100% agree with everything you said. Your Poker-playing skills help you understand odds and numbers that apply to business concepts. Most people can't understand anything other than their own personal needs which is why this country is in trouble.
I've been busy with college, but I still try to keep up with y'all. It's awesome to see y'all have baby now! He's precious! Also, I agree with you. Weighing the pros and cons of any advantage and disadvantage in a business is just basic. I respect the decision. Whether they kept it or not, I watch fishing because of the challege. Sometimes you catch them, and sometimes you don't. This will make the sport more fun because it will put more emphasis on being strategic, taking chances, and ultimately bringing back the challenging aspect of fishing itself. Y'all keep up the great work!
Just exactly! In less than 24 hours ive seen a major shift and 100’s suggesting that they are gonna tune in. Obviously, time will tell but with the list of anglers who will be headed that way will shock the fishing world.
Completely agree with you Kyle. I'd rather watch fishing in an old school manner. Not just watching the screen and casting toward the known. God bless and have a great day.
I commented a few years back before forward facing that you did not look comfortable with an spinnin rod. May have been a tournament at Erie you posted. As your viewers I think we all agree watching you fish a swim jig and a frog is what attracted us to your channel. So I’m really pleased to hear your perspective on all this which is extremely logical. Now I can go listen to Milliken and blaukat argue strongly for and strongly against.
This ban took some guts to make. Props to those with a set of cahonas big enough to make it. I for one will support NPFL as much as possible now. They just set themselves up to grow to the level of the other 2 big boys in pro fishing. This decision also forces the others to decide if one aspect of pro fishing (FFS) is more important than all those bait and fishing related companies that have always allowed pro fishing to thrive in the past. #TEAMWELCHER
NPFL added to the problems they already have, and that's viewer ship. I watch 20 podcasts every week, and heard the name maby twice in many months. So I new nothing about they even existed. Viewership is the answer Viewership Viewership
Kyle, you are a great young man with a great family! You will be successful with or without FFS! Love to watch you flip, frog, crank, all of it! You are the future! Thank you, young man👍🏻
Crazy to think I’ve been watching you since you moved to Tennessee. Now you’ve got a whole family and all not to mention an AOY on the elite series. You’re the true hybrid fisherman in the current world and probably one of the best ever.
I can say Livescope is probably the greatest invention that's ever come out to help a person catch fish... I'm mean nothing else even comes close. That said when I go fishing I have two Livescopes on my boat but if I can figure out a way to catchem without using them that's always what I'd rather do because thats how I learned to fish. I have learned to work Livescope in to the way I like to fish without targeting individual fish. It's so much easier to find brush piles or follow grass lines and follow contour lines along with finding schools of fish and bait. So I definitely fall more in the middle between banning it or not. What's funny to me is seeing so many people who aren't even fishing in these organizations lose their freaking minds over something that has zero to do with them. Great video as always keepem coming guys!!!
Great views Kyle. I've watched all of the drama about all of this, and I guess I see it through a different view. Glad you emphasized on a Business standpoint. An organization has the right to set rules to accommodate their own vision, and it's the angler choice weather he wants to enter their event. With or without FFS none of the organizations will have any issues filling their rosters, with so many eager younger guys always wanting to get into the sport at the top level. So I do not understand all of the drama. Rules are published, fish or don't.
Good for you you Kyle. Takes some cojones for someone in your position to speak your mind on something so controversial. Massive respect for you. One thing that seems to not get the attention I think it deserves is, "What about the resource? What kind of negative impact is the popularity of FFS having on the resource?" I understand why people speak about this issue with the perspective of how will it effect the "industry" or the "sport" but I believe the first concern should be, how does FFS effect the "resource"? After all, without the resource the other two don't exist. If you want to preserve the sport and the industry you have to focus on preserving the resource first and I have serious concerns that FFS is and will continue to have a significantly detrimental effect on fisheries across the country.
Good for you dude! You got me throwing the swim jig which I hate! However, I got my PB on Labor Day thanks to you. I’ve always said any black and blue lure don’t work in southern Illinois, but I was wrong and are my words.
I agree with everything you said and love that you look at the big picture. I used ffs and got pretty good with it but it was not as fun as fishing the traditional way. I just became a huge fan bud. GO GET EM!!!!!
I've had my bass boat parked for the last 6 years. I'm kinda older and just don't have the tournament drive anymore. BUT, I did just add 4 new Garmin graphs and the LVS34 setup. New Lithium batteries and a lot of much needed Love to the boat. I'm excited to learn the new electronics. I fully agree that it's not good for top level tournaments as a whole. But I kinda like the variaty MLF is proposing by limiting time as it fits their format perfectly. Your family has got MORE awesome since the little man have come along. Best wishes on the year.
Kyle, thank you for being honest with your thoughts on FFS, I love the fact you are a "do what's right" guy, that philosophy will take you very far in everything you do in life, not just bass fishing! Great video and insight from a pro.
I agree with you Kyle, good move NPFL,ibwas hoping they would be the ones to do it and see how it goes, they will gain anglers and loose some to but it will be fun to watch, glad your fishing with them, good luck buddy
Great perspective made by a really good fisherman. Having my own small terminal tackle business what Kyle says makes sense on what sponsors support the fisherman
Very thoughtful and informative thoughts thank you. Loved seeing the family. I fish a lot, have FFS and think old school fishing is more fun…top water!
I agree 💯 percent with you thoughts and think bass fishing needs to get back to the basics of bass fishing and all anglers using their mind to find the fish and what baits they want for that day. I am like you and like to use as many different baits and rod combos to find the fish.
This is the best thing ever. The problem with the livescope in pro fishing is the fact it's putting too much pressure on the fish. common sense tells you that will negatively affect the fish. it is the right choice. Answering this question did pro fishing change once FF live scope was introduced. yes, big time. Anytime there is a major change in the wildlife it affects them. What did it do, it now put pressure on the entire body of water not just the shallows. Now all the fish are under pressure at all times.
Yes I'm an old head but NPFL just went up a notch IMO.. I'm a weekend warrior of 30 + yrs rarely miss a weekend. I don't fish many tournaments. Only tournament I make sure to fish every year is Snag proofs Frog only tournament on Caddo Lake here in my area. I don't know alot about FFS And don't want to. Only thing i can say is I don't watch Tournaments even half as much as years past. It's just not fun to watch. Again to each their own this is just my opinion. You are the person that got me to really loving Swim jig fishing and I became a fan of yours by watching you throw a jig ,frog and flip and hope to see you do more of it in the future!
Great video explaining your opinion and the business model as you have experienced. Sounds like you’re you’re excited to compete with the new reg in place. I like it!
I think using them as a means of learning what fish are on certain structure, that fish are biting on a certain day, in certain temperature, in certain water color,, using certain bait colors, that's ok. But to always rely on it and use it in a tournament is a slippery slope.
I really appreciate the fact that you speak the truth even when FFS has benefited you. The NPFL has gained my respect with their decision as well. I had never heard of them until a few years ago when one of my neighbors, Matt Mollohan, was fishing the trail. Don't worry about it you will be successful fishing with or without FFS because you have a natural gift. 👍
You are not talking out both sides of your mouth sir…you are smart enough to know the difference between short term easy success and long term good of the sport. Will be following you in the NPFL
the overwhelming majority of what goes on in a forward facing tournament is almost irrelevant to 70-80% of the fishing population who doesn’t have the boats or the ffs equipment. so even if they don’t hate the tech there’s nothing that they are seeing that translates into techniques lures etc they can use and that means there’s no advancement in their angling success because these tournaments are literally not marketing to those 70-80% of the anglers anymore they are marketing to 20-30% of the market that has boats and screens so really there’s no point in watching not only from an entertainment perspective if you’re a bank or simple boat angler, but you’re not seeing anything in action you can replicate might as well just watch youtube where it’s easier to avoid ffs related content that’s the tall and the short of it always appreciate you brother thank you for the mature video
In August, I used FFS extensively and caught most of my fish, and all my big fish, on crankbaits and flipping. 5XDs. Ragebugs and Centipedes. A few schooling on spoons. Exactly 4 on minnow baits. Guess what I bought the most of recently? Not minnows.
Love getting to see the family!! It's what it's all about. I agree, FFS is great, but it doesn't sell all the baits that a company sells. There is so much more to it than just FFS.
One term we used to use constantly in bass fishing is "search baits" since scope has become dominant, search baits are almost obsolete. Now we use baits to pinpoint fish and get bites
Good video. I personally do not like FFS. It's very boring to watch. I don't watch a pro to stand there and look at a screen and barely move. I watch a pro to see and learn how they catch fish. Keep up the good work.
It is the best move for the NPFL. This will make them stand out and give them much needed publicity to maybe help grow their league. This move needs to be followed down at the high school, college, and amateur levels just based on the shear cost of the FFS equipment alone. This will help even out the competition for those who do not have the financial means to purchase the technology.
I 👏 you for speaking on ffs wish everyone focused on states spraying our lakes as much as ffs As far as a video idea you and Ms Hunter flipping some visible targets and rip some lips #teamK.W.
Good to see Ms Hunter is still beautiful you lucky dog. I agree with banning ffs, sure don't enjoy watching tournament coverage on tv where anglers are looking at a screen all day, it's boring. Kyle, I was really worried about how you would adapt to the ffs but, I shouldn't have because you are simply a great angler regardless. Now it's back to basics where you excel with a frog and jig putting them where few can. This may put everyone back on the banks but I truly believe you excel there. Hang in there because good things are coming your way.
Great video. I like what you said 100 angler with it or 100 anglers without, still fishing against the top 100 anglers. …. Business model & sponsors ding ding. And bass fishing is shrinking, quick. Retail stores bass sections seem to be getting smaller every 3 months. That’s it. Need sales to drive a company …. At the end of the day push bottom / spinning combos, cut bait, and hooks outsell all other tackle.
your thoughts on electronics sponsors not giving enough back to the industry is interesting. I assumed that they were some of the bigger sponsors for the various leagues.
I’ve said it a good bit, I prefer to fish without it, but I want to fish competitively either way because I love the sport regardless. It seems to me that the people who say you have to ban it or you have to keep it have lost touch with why we fish in the first place which is just to enjoy the sport. If someone truly loves the sport they will try to leave it better than they found it and fight for the sport but also not be toxic and negative while doing it.
I agree with you completely. I think that it has become not as much fun to watch tournaments with ffs. The anglers just stare at a screen instead of flipping cover and really fishing
Hey if they wanna beat the banks like 1984 again and catch 12 lbs more power to them ..but i thought tornament fishing was about CATCHING not fishing and doing and using whatever it takes to do it ?? Right ?
When garmin pays 90% of the bills I could understand! I started watching you in college! AND I AGREE wholeheartedly! You my dog! Kiddos gettin big bud. Enjoy him at that age while you can! Hunter wants to go skip frogs! Ikyk
Good take man. We have to limit technology at some point because it's gonna keep going. Good on NPFL for setting themselves apart.
Our 2023 AOY just won the internet FFS debate. So informative and unbiased
I love that a business intellectual / bass fishing professional can inform intelligently and fairly on this topic. Just made me a fan. Finally someone who sees all angles.
Thank you Kyle
Thanks for standing up for your belief and putting yourself out there

It was a good move. I hope NPFL takes a bunch of sponsors.
I said it somewhere else but the npfl is the new flw and i think its going to grow drastically.
Just exactly! In less than 24 hours ive seen a major shift and 100’s suggesting that they are gonna tune in. Obviously, time will tell but with the list of anglers who will be headed that way will shock the fishing world.
@Venandii77 agree ill actually be tuning in more.

they are marketing to 20-30% of the market that has boats and screens so really there’s no point in watching not only from an entertainment perspective if you’re a bank or simple boat angler, but you’re not seeing anything in action you can replicate might as well just watch youtube where it’s easier to avoid ffs related content
that’s the tall and the short of it always appreciate you brother thank you for the mature video

your thoughts on electronics sponsors not giving enough back to the industry is interesting.
Right ?
Yes, whatever it takes, weigh more fish. We need a league where they allow electro shocking and netting.
@@scottjm61 gotta use a rod it's still fishing any way you slice it just cause you can See them dont mean jack !! I can tell you never used one lol
This will weed out the heard! Whose the real fishermen and who isnt..as a fan..i like it!
I support bringing back the skills. Just like in construction they have made tools to where no skills are needed. Congrats npfl and the welchers
Well said.
Well Said. It will be interesting to see how the guys that fish both leagues do. Can a guy that relies primarily on FFS be competitive without it?
Linc scootin and bootin. God he’s gotten big from just March 😳
Already bought shirts hats, hoodies from NPFL. They Rock.
Why don’t you have any links in the description for the mooch minnow and the other baits you promote?
I love it. One thing it would do if all pro tournaments banned it is drive the price down on electronics. The prices are ridiculous
When garmin pays 90% of the bills I could understand! I started watching you in college! AND I AGREE wholeheartedly! You my dog! Kiddos gettin big bud. Enjoy him at that age while you can! Hunter wants to go skip frogs! Ikyk
