- Claps are an essential rhythmic element of many different genres including Hip Hop, RnB, House and even Pop and Rock. They often function in the same way as a snare drum, playing on the backbeat of a groove. I don’t know about you, but I love a good clap sound, so I was super excited when I came across the mysterious Palmas MaxForLive device, by SufiPlugIns.

The SufiPlugIns patches were the first downloads where I really got excited about M4L. The clean aesthetic, the obvious function... super inspiring stuff.
Yeah, I also remember discovering the Sufi stuff early on in my MaxForLive days. They don't seem to be so active anymore, but plenty of others have picked up the mantle.
I find a clap just works 9/10 times when doing housey stuff, it's just so right!

Love this series. Unfortunately m4l devices seem to make my ableton pretty unstable. Even the ones ableton included. I need this one though.
marioworlds I’ve never had any problems with any m4l device :/ how odd!
Are you still using Live 9? Live 9 certainly has some stability issues with M4L, but Live 10 fixed all of that for me - everything is pretty solid. The only time I have issues is if the device itself is poorly made, but that's more to do with the device author than MaxForLive itself.

Is there any m4l or stock way of doing this with any sample?
Yes, definitely. Palmas is really just a bunch of layered clap samples, so you could do the same by layering up a few Simplers (with whatever sample you like) and mapping controls to some Macros. It's actually kinda much more 'convenient' to do it that way, but they you lose out on the awesome Palmas interface 😅

Hmm, strange - where are you clicking? On any of the pages on MaxForLive.com if you scroll down a bit there should be a big blue button that says 'Download Device'. If you're clicking that and still getting something weird, maybe see if you have some kind of adblocker installed that might be doing something funny.
