- It is very clear that unless we know the cause of erectile dysfunction, exact treatment cannot be given to the patient. For that the doctor must be aware of all the possible reasons why erectile dysfunction happens. Despite good experience and knowledge, in some patients the doctors are not able to pin point the exact cause of erectile dysfunction because
1. The erectile dysfunction is chronic
2. Damage has become irreversible due to chronic nature of disease and despite treating cause the problem is not getting reversed
3. Multiple causes are involved
4. Certain causes cannot be ascertained by tests and only by clinical examination and tests they can be suspected.
