You can use chase points and transfer them to Air Canada to book United Business for 60,000 points plus like $65 to go from some US airports to LHR too
On international travel, I've always let the tour company book my flights for me in the past, mostly for the simplicity and (not really) "free" transfers. No more! I can get much better seats, choose the exact seat myself, and save money now that I'm learning the points game. I appreciate good content creators like you.
Great breakdown. I just came back from London for new years eve partying. I used VS business class redemption for business plus the killer fuel charge, so I'll be looking for better redemption due that fuel charge.😢
I’ve gotten some great value staying at Hilton properties in London with awesome proximity to tube stations and bikes. I’m hoping to take my parents to see Scotland this spring.
Great tips Luke! I’ve been eyeing direct flights to London, and forgot about Asia Miles! I’ll have to check that out. I only knew about Iberia and American as partners
Wow! Never knew about this one. Love this game! Def have to get to London asap or what the hell am I doing this for? 2024 is bringing me to San Antonio, Orlando, New York City, Tampa, Amsterdam, and currently discussing an Uncle Luke style Thanksgiving with tacos and tequilla in Mexico. Keep the great videos coming and ¡Feliz Año Nuevo to you, Carlos, and the whole family!
Great insight into the value of Asia Miles! I previously flew Rome -> New York on British Airways (layover in London) using them. It's nice that they don't charge a lot more miles to connect to other parts of Europe.
Great video, went to Edinburgh in august. Booked through flying blue and flew Delta out of JFK. Great direct flight and the Delta Lounge at JFK was nice as it was a night time flight.
Excellent tip on joining the rewards programs of any airline you fly on, even if only once. I had flights on 7 different airlines last year (AA, UA, DL, A6, AS, SQ, QR) and have the app for each one in a dedicated square on my screen.
I wouldn't downplay that redemption; that sounds great to me. Thanks for doing this series! Very informative, and it helps me see that there's still value to be had for points.
Sorry, not sure if you mentioned it, but if you click on "more pricing options", BA gives you options for how much points and $ you can pay. I think the old default for that route was 60k Avios plus $965. That clearly shows you what a better deal the flight is when booked with Cathay miles.
Learned something new today. Great Job, you get the coveted POTB! Any idea if Asia Miles can be used to upgrade existing flights on AA/BA? (sorta like Star Alliance offers for UA/LH)
Looking to book Scotland as well and found a "5th Freedom" flight on Singapore from JFK to Manchester. Then a train ride to Edinburgh. Let us know what you end up booking for Scotland, Uncle Luke!
Perfect timing on this one. I'm new to the points game but have accumulated 165k Amex points and 20k Bilt points in the last 6 months. I'm looking at a trip to the UK this summer. Thanks for the tips on how to do it right. It's not so scary now.
Good stuff Luke. See I still look at videos for max value hahaha. Most of my international travel in the near future will be eastern Caribbean. Grenada, St Martin, Antigua, Barbados, etc. Id like to see some videos on those 🫡
Nice redemption Luke and congrats on starting channel subscription. That’s big time! Cathay is offering a 10% bonus right now on miles transferred in. There’s something weird about it though, like maybe you don’t get the points for 10 weeks or something.
You are a mind reader. I have been searching for flights to London on points for a “potential” last minute event late this fall. I have doing my own searches and watching as much travel hack related YT videos on the subject. Although, I have been looking more so out of YYZ (Toronto) as I am also in Ohio and have found some great deals from there! Great info as always 🔥
London is expensive and when I go back I'm just staying two days to complete my tour of the British Museum. After that, I'm going to Bristol and Cardiff.
I’ve literally been searching for the best flight to London for a month. I ultimately went with a Flagship Business ticket out of JFK on American Airlines. It was 80,000 Capital One miles transferred to Etihad with $31 in taxes and fees. Now the flight back is another story 😅
American and One World are slowly becoming my favorites. I wanted the JFK Chelsea lounge access, but those point redemptions for flagship first are insane.
Good to know! Didn’t know I could book British Airways via Cathay. Also, do you usually drive or fly for the positioning flight? In this case getting to D.C. I realized flying from Greenville vs flying from Atlanta is a big difference, or even Ohio etc. Great Luke! Love to always learn about these redemptions!
@@LukesPointsandMiles Got it thanks! I think I might do Virgin (delta) to JFK for a flight sometime in the next 6 months, unless I find something a bit better but we’ll see.
Can you do a video about availability for partner flights across the three alliances? I lived in the uk for college where everything gets Avios so I’m familiar with the standard BA option you mentioned but I never seem to get far with partner bookings because availability. 😕
The question was about how available (or not) partner award flights are. For example in this vid, the flight was for BA. Option one is to book BA directly. Option two is book through a partner. Where I’m falling flat on my face is finding award availability for option two, booking on a partner airline which usually costs less. So I was hoping you had extra overarching tips on spotting and booking cheaper partner awards if the direct option is devalued or expensive
Luke just got a 9.1 cent per Amex point redemption at Grand Wailea over next years New Year vacation. 5 night point redemption after transferring Amex at 2.6 before this New Year’s promotion ended. Never got that many cents per point booking a Hyatt before 😂. Need the best way to book from San Diego to Maui. If you have any suggestions we earn a good amount of points from our business so I’d love to do business class if it’s a good value on the fence because six hour flight is kind of my bouncing point when we need business. I’ll do it if the values there but I don’t see any thing that makes sense in economy from San Diego. We’re talking about 1.5 cents from Chase which I don’t wanna do.
Turkish /United goes from LA. I could do a position Flight, but we have enough points (even though we have to book for 2adults and 2 little ones 😮) that I’d rather do business if we can figure it out. We actually live in La Paz Mexico moved down here a year and a half ago so we have to fly back to Cali. It’s just easier to go through Tijuana to San Diego from here.
I think BA overall is the most expensive of those? I was looking for a flight to tokyo through JAL and on american airlines is 60k but only built transfers there and on british was like 120k points plus 500$? It was kinda ridiculous
Lol. Great Video Luke. When people say Chase has the best transfer partners I laugh... they have the most recognizable transfer partners. I've gotten the most value with C1 and Citi. (I don't have Amex) but those Chase points sure are easy to accumulate.
That Qatar economy ticket is a mediocre redemption, available through American for the same amount of miles and money. For the same miles and less money, you can book directly on British. Economy flights are so easy no UA-cam videos are needed. It's the Business/First flights that are hard to find at good value.
@@DC_Consulting_DC I feel the idea is the same trying to get the best-deal either more Miles/Points or Copayments. I haven’t checked but might take the AA-30K $5.60 deal instead of the Qatar-30K $237.30. If however I didn’t have AA-30K then no choice.
I’ve been doing research and sometimes I forget the utility of Cathay Pacific thanks for the pro tip!
Yes sir. I thought about you making this. It looks like a. Chad redemption. Outside the box.

Luke, thanks for a very educational video. I wouldn’t have thought to check Cathay Pacific Asia Miles but I’m learning!
They seek to be a little under the radar but they have some good redemptions.
