"one of the advantages we enjoy on this program over sports leagues, is we can use instant replay..." It's 32 years later and MLB still has a worse instant replay system than an 80's game show.
I think Alison deserved an even better time than that, the person operating the board was slow and she had to repeat herself a few times. I bet if the board kept up with her speed she finishes under 45 seconds
13:33 there was a 2:1 stock split for lockheed martin in 1999, so double that amount. To go from $110 to about $7540 in 32 years, you would need an annual interest rate of roughly 14.1%, far exceeding inflation (which never really exceeds 3%/year these days). Given that stock markets average about 6%/year in inflation adjusted terms, this was a great deal in my opinion!
There was also a 163:100 split and a 3:1 split before that so depending on when the episode aired it could be even more. And that’s not taking any dividends or reinvested dividends into account.
This show's original incarnation as "Concentration" aired from 1958 to 1973 on NBC. The host for most of its run was "Today" anchor Hugh Downs. Very few episodes from that run still exist though. Mark Goodson, who also produced this version you're watching here, brought it back into syndication from 1973 to 1978 with Jack Narz as the host. More episodes from that run have surfaced recently thanks to them airing on BUZZR.
My dad, Dave, was the barista at the coffee bar inside of Fred Hayman’s Beverly Hills store in the late 80’s and early 90’s. It must’ve been the “it” place because he went on to create a coffee shop, “texspresso” in which he had the “wall of fame” with all the biggest celebrities from that era in Hollywood. He had some pretty wild stories about being the guy behind the counter to greet them and make them whatever they liked while they they shopped but my favorite is that one of his regulars was Vanna White.
Looking back Lisa said the last two at 48 seconds. I would say this is a big deal, but I assume one of the other winners will get a better time anyways
Lisa got the shaft because the judges didn't go back to her episode and see exactly when she solved. Go back and look at "Watchin' Classic Concentration #3" and you'll see that Lisa solved her puzzle just as the time was changing from 47 to 48 -- Allison finished solidly in the middle of 48 seconds. So if the judges had gone back and COMPARED the tapes, Lisa would have won. Also, the Lockheed stock math was wrong because of stock splits. If you held 10 shares in 1989, Lockheed had a stock split in 1995 that would have increased your number of shares to 16.3. Then again in 1999, another stock split would have increased your shares to 32.6. So in 1989, it would have been 10 shares at $11/share = $110. Today the calculation would be 32.6 shares*$372=$12,172. It's about a 15.6% annual return, so pretty good.
163for100 split in 1995 would take 10 stocks to 16.3 shares and a 2for1 in 1999 would take 16.3 stocks to 32.6 stocks. Lockheed has been about $385 the first week of May 2021 so like ~$12,500
You may not know Lockheed but you know their products. Among other things they make the F-117,stealth fighter, the F-16, the F-22 Raptor, the Black Hawk helicopter (through Sikorsky, which they own.), and the latest Mars lander. Those ten shares are more like 40 shares now because of stock splits, plus Lockheed has paid a dividend of about a dollar a year per share, give or take, since 1989. If you had those dividends automatically reinvest in more Lockheed stock, you’d probably have six figures by now.
@@WillKinton 2 stock splits since this aired. Once in 95 at 163-100 and again in 99 at 2-1. Just off the stock splits if my math and knowledge is correct it'd be like over $12k today.
No joke, I watched this show as a kid when it aired on NBC(?) and it taught me A LOT of new words lol. Never knew what the F a EWE was before this show 🤣
If the Lockheed stock was 10 shares around 1985 it was around $10-15 per share then. Today, 10 would have split to around 98 shares and would be in the ballpark of $30-35K. That's a 35 year hold though....
For the value of the 10 shares of the lockheed martin stock (LMT) there is a little bit more that goes into that. There was a 2 to 1 split in 1999 and a 1.63 to 1 split in 1995 this means that the original 10 shares was converted into 16.3 shares in 1995 and then converted into 32.6 shares in 1999. Additionally, LMT issues regular dividends during this time yielding $2755. so the 32.6 shares x 373.22 (todays price) + 2755 = $14,921 if the dividend was used to reinvest and buy more shares at the time of issue instead of collecting the cash, the account would have a total of 78.2 shares worth a total of $29,184 from an initial investment of roughly $150 over 32 years (+19,456%)
You guys should watch "9 out of 10 Cats Does Countdown" Mental puzzles and vulgar British humor. The perfect combination. Plus you can find A LOT of episodes on UA-cam.
Those Lockheed stocks are worth about $3700 today. Unless of course they split the stocks at any point allowing folks to effectively double their stocks. Dang you BBD! I didn't expect you to do it lol. Also, they make airplanes and other technology.
I think there is technically a time limit on each contestants turn, so them saying their strategy out loud and talking through their pick allows them more time to think about what they're going to do?
Lockheed went through 3 splits but the 1st happened in 83 so they would of only went through 2 splits, the 1st being 163 to 100 which I believe they wouldn't have qualified for and the 2nd being a 2 to 1 split so those 20 shares would net them around $6500 if still held today.. which I mean hey if you randomly won 10 shares of a stock on a gameshow that was worth $110 at the time, forgot about that shit and found the paper 30 years later randomly (back then they'd give you kind of like a certificate sheet) and you checked what it's worth now and had $6500 you didn't even remember about I'd be happy as hell.. Thanks for these episodes guys I look forward to this every week during my graveyard shift.
for real. you could prob shave a good second or two off everyone's time if you're just gonna deduct that bit of delay/human error time on the part of the production crew
That bracelet was _always_ worn by Trebek on-air, regardless of show. His attire on _Concentration_ differed from that of _Jeopardy!_ On _Jeopardy!,_ he'd always be seen in a suit and tie to reflect the show's serious nature. Here, he'd sometimes eschew the suit and tie (even going as far as dressing in costume for a Halloween week) to reflect the lighter, more casual atmosphere.
Lockheed Martin stock has split twice since '95, so you can double those shares and then double that before you calculate the price. 40 shares @ $391 = $15,640.
Lockheed Has split 2 times since this airing. Those 10 stocks would now be 32.6 stocks. At todays price of $372 thats around 12,126. This does not include dividend payouts. LMT averages around 10-11% dividend payouts per year. If you add those in, The lady would be doing very well with those 10 initial stocks
I know it's outside your normal videos, but you should watch the Marriage with Children game show episode. Season 2 Episode 20. Also check out To Tell The Truth. (Jan 2, 1967.) It's the Loch Ness Monster episode!
ua-cam.com/video/LbYxps2AOfw/v-deo.html Here is an episode of concentration that has some mild intrigue. The male contestant, Jay, was a good friend if my family. He claimed that the producers just allowed the female contestant to just run the show because she acted like a big baby the whole time. That's how I remember the telling anyway which is probably a distorted remembrance. Anyway, if you're looking for more Concentration, this one is good!
sounds about right. it looked like in this case, this lady was complaining to Alex as soon as the commercial break started so that prob triggered this "review"
The only Lockheed stock I could find was only dated back to 95 on my trading platform however it’s value has since increased tenfold… I now see this was addressed by zack with more information than I had
Tina got robbed by the buzzer. Full control over the board, Allison never woulda had a chance to guess again. Aaaaand giving her the 48 too. This game is so Allison-biased! Just give her the $25k and forget this sham!

Pronouncing it as ew, lol
I always thought it was yew
After watching several hours of Classic Concentration...
Jomboy & Jake: Wait there's arrows?!?!
I think Alison deserved an even better time than that, the person operating the board was slow and she had to repeat herself a few times. I bet if the board kept up with her speed she finishes under 45 seconds
“THATS THE TRANSPARENCY THE MLB NEEDS!”
I felt that in my core

I mean there's been a foreign war for decades now, crazy how that's profitable for a weapons manufacturer.
I knew there would be some convo about the 10 shares of Lockheed Martin. What a score.... Hoping she has diamond hands 😂
The first girl also said the numbers with 48 seconds. Major controversy here.
Damn you're totally right. #JusticeForLisa
the fix was in from the beginning. wonder if Alison paid off some of the judges #NotMyConcentrationChampion
Wow that’s fucked up. I guess there’s controversy with every instant replay review style 😂
Yeah but Alison kept having to repeat the numbers cause the judges didn't flip them.
Igloo. Pigloo. Pig glue. Ooh Lou who piblee.
The guesses are killing me. It's as if the first humans are trying to develop speech and language.

The problem is they didn't verify the time on Lisa's episode.
Looking back Lisa said the last two at 48 seconds. I would say this is a big deal, but I assume one of the other winners will get a better time anyways
Jomboy, Jake, and Classic Concentration is the combo this world has been waiting for. Please do every episode

I love Jimmy's excitement over the replay system-
Went to the replay!!!! OMG 😱. A call down from the booth and the first upset of the week is in the books!
Funny thing is, I just went back to episode 3, Lisa finished saying her words on 48 seconds too. So she should have been still in it.
I’m pretty sure the movie Jimmy is thinking of is Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.
“Right on top of that rose!” Yeah that’s probably it, I love that movie
Woo-hoo! Another Classic Concentration viewing! My Monday just got a lot better!!!
13:00 He didn’t calculate the 2 stock splits of Lockheed Martin post-episode. Think closer to $10k in today’s dollars for that prize.
163for100 split in 1995 would take 10 stocks to 16.3 shares and a 2for1 in 1999 would take 16.3 stocks to 32.6 stocks. Lockheed has been about $385 the first week of May 2021 so like ~$12,500
It also pays quarterly dividends. Reinvested, I am too lazy to figure that out. Closer to 40k. His math was way off regardless
Alison is giving me serious Peggy Hill vibes
When the 1989 TV gameshow replay system is better than 2021 MLB replay system.
More of these!!! I’m addicted to watching you guys concentrate on Concentration! 😁
The best game show ever with the best commentators ever.

Also have there been any stock splits?
@@WillKinton 2 stock splits since this aired.

I love this show, I love you guys watching this show and I'm so glad you finally got to see the full power of the "take".
Alrighty Jomboy you fucks y’all got me hooked on these so keep pumping them out.
The instant replay was a great addition
Lockheed stock has split three times so 10 shares would now be a lot more shares assuming they held the stock until the third split.
Twice since this episode, 95 and 99. Their first stock split was 83. Would be like $12,500 of value if she kept all 10 original stocks.
You have to also include the dividends buying more stock so would be waaaaay more, I’d say closer to 100k.
No joke, I watched this show as a kid when it aired on NBC(?) and it taught me A LOT of new words lol. Never knew what the F a EWE was before this show 🤣
This is a cool show. Hopefully you guy's find more to watch. Love watching the 2 of ya watch anything...
If the Lockheed stock was 10 shares around 1985 it was around $10-15 per share then. Today, 10 would have split to around 98 shares and would be in the ballpark of $30-35K. That's a 35 year hold though....
Lol "Put that livingroom set in the fire." This is a good series.
Why the hell did the ending bring a tear to my eye...Go Allison!!! No prizes but still in it!!
Buff, strong Daddy-energy Jomboy, dashingly handsome Jake and sensually sexy Trebek?
Suddenly Monday is the best day of the week.
Most Mom looking contestants ever.
Best single, non-Baggage 'Watching' episode so far! Congrats on a million subs!
Watchin ewe guys is a fabulous way to spend a sleepless night! 👏
For the value of the 10 shares of the lockheed martin stock (LMT) there is a little bit more that goes into that.

this means that the original 10 shares was converted into 16.3 shares in 1995 and then converted into 32.6 shares in 1999. Additionally, LMT issues regular dividends during this time yielding $2755. so the 32.6 shares x 373.22 (todays price) + 2755 = $14,921
if the dividend was used to reinvest and buy more shares at the time of issue instead of collecting the cash, the account would have a total of 78.2 shares worth a total of $29,184 from an initial investment of roughly $150 over 32 years (+19,456%)
lol you guys getting excited over the replay cracked me up
Acapulco is on the southern (i.e. Pacific) coast of Mexico.

Lockheed stock went from $27 in 1995 to $390 today. That's the furthest back I could see with a quick search but not a bad prize
Lol when a gameshow from 1989 does replay better than a major professional sport in 2021.
Its sad and hilarious
I LOVE THAT ENDING WTF dang bruh
Lockheed Martin stock has split twice since '95, so you can double those shares and then double that before you calculate the price. 40 shares @ $391 = $15,640.

Lockheed builds planes and weapons for the military primarily
where is the replay of the first woman!? It's fixed!
I fuckin love your reaction to the replay handling on Concentration. Sportsball take notice!
Lockheed was split twice so 10 shares would be 32.6 shares today. That wouls put the value today around $14,000

So the puzzles are meant to spell out common phrases or not? Like what’s “Up a Lazy River” mean?
Different times. Language evolves, I guess. Make it today and the puzzles would be “no cap” “spill the tea” and “purple eggplant emoji”
Seein my girl Lisa get absolutely hosed is heartbreaking...
It is the greatest show ever!!!!!
This is the greatest game show of all time! Go Tina!!
10 shares of Lockheed stock is about $3700 today (also please watch fetch! with ruff ruffman)
21:22 are you thinking of Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead?
Yes probably!
Tina got robbed by the buzzer. Full control over the board, Allison never woulda had a chance to guess again.
Aaaaand giving her the 48 too. This game is so Allison-biased! Just give her the $25k and forget this sham!
Exactly. Tina was winning then suddenly buzzer time? Tina would've crushed Lisa's time by a mile.
I really don't understand how this game works and would love if the contestants and host would explain it more.
The stock has split a few times since the 80s. So she would have about 90 shares now at 383/share, so roughly more like 27k worth today
Lockheed has had a couple stock splits since this episode was aired. I think those ten shares would be worth closer to $12k now.
