- I’ve been MIA for a couple of weeks, but back with a fun tutorial! This is done on a 20 ounce Yukon tumbler. The base ink is Tim Holtz Latte, the top color is Brea Reese Brown.
Here are amazon affiliate links to both inks: caramel/ginger/latte set amzn.to/2N0SYuh and Brown single amzn.to/3988Btd - Навчання та стиль
What helps me when applying ink is to lightly mist the brush itself with alcohal on occasion. Seems to give me a little extra time creating wood grain and knots giving it more definitions and texture.
Great tip!!!! Thank you!!
I love it! Thank you for sharing this. The wood grain looks amazing and real!
Thank you so much! 🥰
Gorgeous! Love how it's dark around the bottom edge. Keep up the amazing work..
Thank you!! 🥰
When you said working with Patients. This gave me an idea.
Love watching your videos. I hit 21 years in remission last year. I'm going to make a set of these for the team hang out at MD Anderson cancer centre in Houston.
On where I went. But keep up the great work. Just now getting in this type of art.
Congrats on your healing journey!!!
This is incredible!!!!
Looks incredible. Cant wait to try this. But where can I find vinyl decals like the deer head or other wildlife? TIA.
I googled and traced what I liked. But there are Etsy shops that do the hard work for you!
I love your videos. I also do the wood grain cups. I paint mine white, do the latte ink and then spray with a sealer. It turns green until it dries. I then do my decal and my darker ink. No need for modge podge, epoxying and painting again.
What sealer are you using? Every spray I have tried ruins my ink!! I’ve even tried mod podge spray. 😩
@@ThePurpleStitch I use Rustoleum (sp) clear matte. It turns a greenish color for a minute, but back. Wish I could show you pictures....
You do such great work, I love watching you! Question: I've never done a peek a boo because I don't have a cutting machine. Can I put stickers, paint over them and then just pull the paint out over those stickers? Thanks for sharing!
I have seen people use the precut stickers before. It’s definitely possible, just more limited. 🥰
Didn’t realize wood grain was even possible! Thank you for sharing!
I attempted to make this tumbler. When I removed the vinyl the deer head area was very sticky. Did I not let the epoxy dry enough? I tried using a little alcohol on a paper towel but it smeared the surrounding alcohol ink. It became a do over!
Love your videos!!
I think she'll love it!
🤣 I think so too!
After you did the latte what did you seal it with
I am going to try this for my son he is a big deer and turkey hunter i think he would love this
A little confused. First color ink, I know u do all that devil’s glue sealing, then, do u epoxy before your decal? Or decal, paint white, second ink, pull vinyl, then epoxy. I’ve never sealed inks, just wait 24 hrs & on to epoxy on a regular inked cup. Just trying to get steps straight
Beautiful!!
Thank you!!
Could you skip the white over first color tone
You could try but it may not have contrast. If you epoxy after the first layer, there’s no harm in seeing how it turns out. Worst case, paint it white at that point. 😆
For your trip, look into Cloudcroft and City of Rocks. Kids will love it!
Thanks so much!!
Thanks for sharing! So you modgepodge before you clear coat? If I just use a spray can clear coat after the alcohol ink dries will that look bad over time?
I’m cursed. If I don’t seal with MP, my ink inevitably runs.
What did you use after the latte or the 1st coat
Absolutely beautiful. You seal with mod podge. Could you spray coat it with clear coat?? I adore the wood grain look. I am just nervous to try one. Thanks for your time and talent. hugs Sheryl 💙🎨💙
Where do you get the removable vinyl deer head?
I got mine at Joanns, but there are several places that should have it.
If you are going to Albuquerque new Mexico, you should go to the ABQ BioPark Botanic Garden. My family and I had a blast here so much to see and do. Love your tutorial. It came out beautifully/
Awesome! Thanks for that info! And thanks for your sweet words!
The botanical gardens are nice but not right now haha the Japanese garden was my favorite!
Beautiful! 💗
Will you please tell me what you'd charge to do one or two of these for me?
The 20 ounce cups are $25 + shipping (usually $8). If you’d like, you can message me on my Facebook page. Www.facebook.com/thepurplestitch 🙂
Chickens need water too! 🤷🏾♀️ I loved this! I've seen people use the nail polish holder ring things to scrape the vinyl into, that might work!
I have seen those and always think: ooooh! I need one! And the. Promptly forget as soon as I walk away! 🤣
is there a way to test the colors before you use them on the tumbler? I really like your videos. I am wanting to start tumblers for gifts for my family. I don't think I will ever be good enough to sell the ever.
Practice makes perfect!! I’ve tried dropping inks onto white paper to check color. I don’t feel like it’s accurate. Maybe grabs a couple of white tiles from a hardware store to test on? Good luck!
Are you using permanent vinyl?
Removable is easier for peek a boo style. ☺️
First: LOVE this cup!!! Also, love your videos and so happy they are out there as a resource for those of us working to learn this craft.
Question: Between your first and second coats of Woodgrain (alcohol inks) you give it a full coat of spray paint (12:40). What's the purpose for that step? You've already laid down your removeable vinyl (11:15).
Thanks in advance and keep the videos coming!
Thank you! Glad you find them helpful! ☺️
The white paint allows the woodgrain to show better. Some folks might do a light base and not bother with a white layer before dark inks. It allows it to have its own “texture” so to speak.
What color are your alcohol inks you used? i love that darker color on your oopsie cup!
Base ink is Tim Holtz Latte. Top color on both cups is Brea Reese brown. I did a lot more ink on it. I love the red tone in that color!
I’m so sad our golden chick doesn’t have that Machine anymore! And when they used to deliver in my town they drove a little yellow car with a big ’ol yellow phone on top! 😂 now since it’s years later they don’t have either anymore
That’s awesome!!
did you epoxy you cut before adding decal cup looks super shiny
Yes. I sealed then epoxied. I’ve seen too many stories of the bottom layer being damaged without it.
Do you epoxy at end?
Yes, a couple good coats for protection.
Oh I Love Your Videos What is the name of the ink you used second and what kind of brush did you use where did you get your brushes and ink
Base was Tim Holtz Latte, top was Brea Reese Brown. The brush is the cheapies from the paint department at Home Depot.
I must’ve been in a hurry on that one. I usually post the links to the supplies. 😬 Here are amazon affiliate links to both inks. caramel/ginger/latte set amzn.to/2N0SYuh and Brown single amzn.to/3988Btd
Did you just use a regular brush to paint on the Modge podge? It does it matter what kind you used?
I sometimes use a mod podge brush. But often just a paint brush that leaves a smith finish. Some say they use a foam brush, but I always end up with bubbles.
HI, is the cup shine from the mod podge sealing or did you epoxy and then put on the decal on.
I epoxied between layers, layers the decal, sprayed white, inked again, then removed decals. So I’m betting what your referring to is the layer between. 🙂
So you light grain the wood, epoxy, apply decals, then mod pod gear... no other epoxy or sanding???
I think those bumps just happen with wood grain.
If only things would go EXACTLY like we wanted them to! 😆
Now I know y my wood grain didn't come out good I didnt know to seal it.
Some people don’t seal it. I don’t know how they don’t!!!
@@ThePurpleStitch I think it looks better sealed but I also saw where I messed up and put to dark of a color underneath. I'm a newbie still learning
I’ve been at it almost 2 years and still mess up! 😂
Why did you repainted then done the ink again?
So that the 2nd color would be more prominent. Otherwise it wouldn’t have turned out as bold of a contrast.
Can you recommend a good epoxy please. I'm not liking the one I've just bought x
Each brand tends to behave differently depending on your climate. I have great results with Envirotex lite and KSresin liquidy split.
@@ThePurpleStitch thank you. I keep getting fish eyes in all my projects, I camt seen to figure out were im going wrong. X
Stacey Shakeshaft it could be from touching it with bare hands, do you ever touch them between coats without gloves on? Once I realized I was doing that, it helped my fisheye problem. Also, I like to spray a clear coat paint before epoxy. That helps me a lot too.
@@ThePurpleStitch yerr some times I think I do touch it. Thanks for your help xx
Very nice... thank you!
Thank you! 🥰
So did you epoxy after you modpodged or straight to decal?
For this cup I did: base paint, ink, mod podge, epoxy, decal, base paint, ink, removed decals, mod podge, epoxy, done.
