    As mentioned, 1st time in this area. Took my best guess at the chain remotely. A little grabby on the stump as we watched. As it became wood dull the chain "mellowed" a little and was just about right after getting a few trees on the ground. AWESOME limbing setup though!
    After the introductions, we take a gander up the tree to see it is leaning out to the left and down. In the end, no heavy wedging and this tree is heading out to the right.
    Leverage, it's an excellent concept if a guy can master the physics and use the weight of the tree against itself as we see here. Some out there say it cannot be done. If we have viewed the "Soft Dutchman" video from 12 years ago on this channel then we know that it is more than hypothetical. And, we are watching it happen here again.
    My suggestion, KNOW YOUR WOOD! Not all maneuvers seen on this channel will work on all species and in all locations. One of the easiest ways to lose a tree over backward is while trying to swing it. Not all attempts by professional fallers nets a successful outcome when a swing is attempted. So that leads to the second part which is Know Your Skill Set. If you think something is sketchy initially, it probably is. That could be the still small voice telling you to get some help from someone more qualified.
    In the end, I was well pleased at how the 500i "Zipp-a-facation" operation turned out. Albeit a bit of a fuel hog once in modded trim.
    I'm currently available for custom saw modifications. Please shoot me an email if you are interested.

Glad your on UA-cam and a few others but hats off to a God fearing man willing to be vocal about it. I’m sure many won’t subscribe just for that reason. I’m subbing for that reason.

    Love every one of these videos, can't get enough of them. Nothing like the big power of a Stihl or Husqy saw pulling through a massive trunk of a tree!!! Great work.

    As a professional faller what’s your thoughts on a square ground chain Vs a round ground. Is it worth the extra time to file a square chisel in the field. Looking for a pro fallers opinion.

    • @JS-oy6nn
      @JS-oy6nn 3 роки тому +2

      A square chains cuts faster, smoother, and stays sharper longer. I never file on the saw, just put on a new loop. I switched over a year ago and never looked back. The learning curve is something to consider but, Very happy with my decision to switch. But This is just my simple opinion.

    That seemed way over complicated. I would have just moved my honda generator and extension cord out of the way, and dogged in my craftsman and its 18" bar, and swathed down that pine like a lightsaber going through butter.

    Great work as always Jack. What did you mean by "The Icing". I have some ideas but wanted to clarify. Good eye on that dogleg bend. Judging lumber another of your many hats. Love the way you knock them out, whether the saw is perfect or not.. nice saw, getting work done.

      troy hi. This tree leaned out to about "8 o'clock" and down. It went to about 3 o'clock without a bunch of wedge pounding and time loss.
      That was the gits here.

    Swing and a pull, on a pine tree even! Nice work Jacky-san, that 5-hundy is gettin right with er. Gotta love 'Action' standing by in supervisory status with the bright new lid on haha, my kids wanna be right in the middle of cuttin too, except they think my saw is to loud......but with the oldest being 11, she's got a couple years yet before she decides as a teenager that hearing isn't important. Youngest of the 4, turning 5 Christmas day.......she's scared to death of the noise but getting better, the two boys would clear cut everything in sight if I let em........"just find me earplugs dad, the we're good"

    You’re an absolute surgeon.
    Would it be too much to ask, but after the tree falls, could you please show the stump for Atleast a few moments. I always like to inspect and see what the details of the stump were....
    Stay safe man

    So that's a lot of hinge wood. What's the idea of the bore across back of the face if you're leaving 5 inches of wood?

    Great video great job using the falling tools in your toolbox....one thing I noticed that 500 was struggling with that 32 inch bar...seemed like your rakers or has you call them the stops were down a bit to far....that saw appeared to be having a trouble pulling that bar...thing that bar and chain could be pulled better on a 390XP...starting to see a few of those 500 around here...not overly impressed...see why Stihl kept them out of the US last 2 years trying to prefect their new style of saws....take care Shoe

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  3 роки тому +2

      Shoe hi.
      Thanks.
      It is a 33" bar, as measured the same way a 32" bar is. 110 drivers .375 pitch.
      Not sure how it is possible, with my understanding of physics, for two different bar lengths ( 114/5 & the 119 drivers 3/8) to both have the 36" or 3' bar assigned to them... AWWW, but I digress!
      I run my depth gauges down 99% of the time.
      I think it was the miscue on the teeth angles. This was my first attempt in this area. After a few trees the chain mellowed (wood dull) and was doing pretty good. It limbed nicely and bucked fairly well as we could see.
      This saw would have a good running 390 looking over it's shoulder and nervous. But, it's hard to tell what a saw is like through the monitor.
      One thing that needs to be considered, the 390s weigh ~ 19.6 pounds ready to cut. The 500i weighs ~ 16.6 tanks full. Both in stock form, the 500i wins with a shorty 32"er. But, because in this life there is always a one of those, the power is different. The 390 feels like it has more down low. Just like with the 462 vs 572. The 572 is down .3 on hp. It feels different, cuts about the same, and you can put a little more pressure on the handles.
      I think that the 500i-s run in the top 3, or maybe 5, of the best stock saws considering the lot from ~ the mid '70s or so. But the power is different in most of the new stuff. Best running doesn't mean best sawing/cutting though. Just like when I run my chains a little snug. They cut better. Maybe not faster though...
      The "delayed release" is purposeful, yes The PNW is pretty notorious for being hard on equipment. We hang long bars on saws and work on some "pretty interesting" ground at times. It taxes saws more than most places. By waiting a year, or three, most of the "easy bugs" are worked out by the time they hit the market on the left coast.
      Husky does the same thing for the most part.
      Thanks for watching.

      Also, the previous 500i video, in the channel lineup, falling was just a few trees later on this day.

      @@hotsaws101 Thank you for the detailed response....well guess I need to tryout one of the new 500i...yes 3 pounds more to lug around a unit gets tiresome after a while if you have the same type of power...so did I hear you right you crank you're rakers down 90 some percent from stock...wow stay off your dogs and hold on for a choppy ride....no really...well love your videos...god bless and wish you and family a great Thanksgiving. PS...yes we do live in God's Country here in the PNW.

      dan clas hi. A mini swing. 10/12 years ago I posted another swing video. Soft Dutchmen I think it was called.
      This was the first tree in that area. I was testing things out a little.
      It's been treating Mr. Outinthewood quite well it seems for the last month or two as far as I know. This was filmed back in late August or early September.

    Hey I seen where they are putting the 661 max air flow filter system on the 500i have you tried this yet or even heard of it?

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  3 роки тому +2

      Beard hi. I looked into that back in March. Fine if your not felling in a brush hole. Out in the open, landing, firewood, etc. it's doable. A lot of exposed wiring since the 661 rain cover has a different shape than the 500i. In heavy bush, there is a good chance of snagging one of the smallish wires that go to the injector housing.
      I do have a saw that belongs to a land clearing type guy. I'll get into that here shortly.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  3 роки тому +1

      Bill hi. The trees that are to big for the buncher to handle.
      It is all mechanical anywhere a mo-chine can possibly access. The feller/bunchers will gnaw on the tree from three sides sometimes even. There are always steep areas that need a handfaller. But, those are not the norm for the most part.
