I agree with your statement about mental health being shoved under the rug. I am a student at UC Berkeley, and its the same story here, especially with first-gen, income students. Thanks for sharing!
It's a rare find explanation regarding pros and cons Ivy League. Thanks for sharing such great big thinking. I am planning to attend the college next year as graduate student at Master of TESOL. So, thanks
Would you say that the mental health program is improving? There were several discussions of increased spending on mental health on the parent group but I'm not sure about their effectiveness
Did you get stressed out a lot as a student at Penn? I heard the work load is super heavy. I expect heavy work load from an Ivy League, however, I'm afraid that I don't have enough time for myself. If the work load is true, do you have any recommendation to maintain stable grades or keep up with others? Thank you so much❤️❤️❤️
Stress is DEFINITELY real, and it is true that the work load is heavy. To get stable grades, I recommend getting good sleep, it's sooooo important! Also, try every study method and location until you find one that works well. How you study and where you study can really impact your productivity. Find a way to keep track of all of your assignments and their due dates so you get an idea of how to allot your time. That's all I can think of off of the top of my head! And a quick tip for stress, don't compare yourself to others! Everyone goes at their own pace, and trying to keep up with others leads to emotional stress. Everyone's experience is unique, do what's best for you!
personally i haven't experienced any "direct" competitiveness (e.g. a person or several people actively competing against me for something), but i definitely would say that because a lot of students end up doing well internship and job-wise, sometimes there is pressure to feel like you have to be doing the same things. but that's my own experience! :-)
+Waleed Masood Penn alum here! Yes, it's very competitive especially in the classes that are graded on a curve. I was a double major English/Enonomics in the College of Arts & Sciences (pre-Law; I went to Penn for law school too). People don't try to sabotage each other or anything, but in my Econ classes people definitely competed for grades, even as we shared notes with our friends and studied together.
i took a few wharton classes and they're some of my favorites! the lectures are very interactive and the professors really try to keep it from being a class where you just look at a board and take notes. so if the rest of the wharton classes are like that then i'd say they have a pretty solid program!
I'm really confused about the 4 schools. If I want to go to wharton, do I take 2 years in arts and sciences then go to my choice of school? How does this system work?
I'm not super sure myself, but I think this website will help admissions.upenn.edu/admissions-and-financial-aid/preparing-for-admission/transfer-admission/wharton-school-transfer :-)
You only pay that if your parents' income is over $200k. They have very good financial aid based on need, so no one should need to take out a loan to attend. If you watch the who video, you see that she is getting full financial aid since she is 1st gen/low income.
i'm glad that you're not paying $70K a year to go there...i'm glad that you're going there for free...sorry about the shitty food and rodents but i'm glad you made friends and i hope you continue to make friends
Upenn called me “unemployable as a secretary” in federal court when I sued for discrimination. While they were doing this, they were covering up for a doctor who drugged and raped female job applicants. I type 100wpm and was EMPLOYED as a freelance medical transcriptionist at the time. If you have no problem with this you’re not anyone I’d respect, but boy you sure like the people who did that to me (and to the poor rape victim). You have laid down with dogs. Don’t whine when you wake up with fleas. Besides, with the world going broke everyone is going to have to start over, and those who can live most inexpensively are the new rich. I’ll spare you all the off-campus housing horrors I know about since you’d probably say I was just whining anyway. Sleep well!
youre cute. i am glad you did not do an entitlement video. i think you have some sensible issues to bring up, esp poor food and dorms at $70,000. And profs at the top of research and meeting people who are amazing or inspiring, whether roommate or hall mate, etc. I went to Brown. Similar experience. But our food I think was better; not gourmet but.....we ate well, and if not, great salad bar.
Very well thought out and balanced view of Penn from a perspective that is not often heard. Great video!
Thank you very much for Penn's videos, they were very useful in my application and served as a good guide for me. Thank you and keep going!!!

Your hair is beautiful. Love curly hair.
Thank you!
Thank you for your honesty and video!!! ❤
Ahhh it sounds perfect for me
I like Penn but im a bit scared of the academic rigor just because my stats aren't exactly "prime level" and idk if itd be too much for me😬
even if you don't get in, you can go to college, get high grades....finish college, and reapply
Can you please do a financial aid video and tell us how but works? How were you able to go to penn for free?
Great idea!! But basically I go for free because I'm really low income.
Ellise Starr lmao same sis

This is very random but I was curious if UPenn asks for your tardies from classes in high school when you send an application?
No they don’t, nor do they ask for absences

Is the academic workload unbearable? Are there tutoring options for your class and if so do they help?
Lol I'm a freshman at another university but from what I've seen/researched i love Penn. Lol is it bad if I bought a Penn shirt lol?
Malcolm AdrianX nah
The minute you said penn was liberal I was hooked
What is considered 1st generation for Penn?
What do you think about the “competitive” nature at penn? Is it cut throat?

It’s definitely number 1 right now.

Do you know if the majority of professors over at Wharton are there for research-related purposes as well?
Gentoo Yes, even more so
Thanks for this!

What dorm did you live in freshman year?
I lived in The Quad! (In Speakman within Ware)
i hated it! lol
I don’t know if you’ll reply but how are those «dances» that I’ve heard the university has?
Did you meet your roommate through random selection?
As a freshman, I found my roommate through a facebook page for roommate searches. From sophomore year to now, I live with friends!
Hey There, I’m a low income student who was just admitted to UPenn. Would you be willing to chat with me regarding your own experience?
Hi, how do you like it?
