Anyone that's reading this needs to stand in line at the post office and have their packages scanned. I've done this 6 days a week for 5+ years now. If you're full time, just work out your schedule so you get there a few minutes before they open so you can be first in line. If you have a scan sheet, you're in and out immediately. If you don't use one (I personally don't), it takes like 2 minutes per 15-20 packages. It's well worth the time investment and mild inconvenience to actually watch things get scanned in and not have to worry about this.
At my post offices they let you scan the packages in at the automated postal unit. Never a line there. Then just gets dropped off in the overnight box.
Strongly disagree. You should be having USPS pickup from your house every day once you’re selling at least one item a day. Been doing this for over a year and I’ve saved…. well 365 hours. Time is money. You could be sourcing and listing with those hours.
@@Jake-Day Some of us that live in apartments can't do that. Also, it completely depends on how reliable your mail carrier is. Many of them refuse to scan packages and it can cause problems. If you have a good one and live at a place where it's possible, then I agree that it's a good option.
I appreciate your transparency and sharing the highs and lows of your eBay business. Your delivery of information is so good. So sorry this has happened to you, but your way of handling the situation with such calmness is something to be learned for others. Thank you for sharing.
I got below standard when I was moving and had to cancel a few orders. I don't sell in volume so that was all it took and I would never sell my way out of it in three months thus risk losing my account. I worked the numbers and determined how many transactions I needed to get above standard again. I had a bunch of silver dimes that cost me nothing and basically sold $5 value dimes for a $1 each with free shipping for an accumulated shipping cost of several hundreds of dollars out of my pocket. It was an insane feeding frenzy of buyers snapping them up as fast as I listed each individually to get a transaction count on each and in a very short time I was above standard and had glowing feedback from each buyer LOL. It worked and worked well... for a price.
I think it''s similar what offline businesses do at times called lost leader. The idea is to generate extra sales as quickly as possible even if it's a loss to get people looking at your items again .... and on Ebay it will get the algorithm generating extra sales due to that.
When I decided to get into this I realized that shyte would happen. I’m not trying to run a big operation, so I’m able to baby my orders so far, but in three months I am already learning through my mistakes. Thanks for sharing about this. Just another thing to be aware of!
Thank you for your transparency. I just started selling on eBay in January of this year. You have provided me with so many helpful instructions. I wish you all the best as you face this new challenge and believe you will overcome this obstacle and be better from it. I am also experiencing some issues with Ground shipping arriving late, haven't had it be incomplete yet but am aware of this. Again, I thank you for these videos and for your transparency.
Keep going! As a newbie, I didn't really appreciate that high sales velocity helped my account so much. Eventually it slowed but I made some decisions and mistakes which I'm now aware of. Overall Jride's "sell what's selling" is a proven tactic & it's a big difference from the other suggested eBay sales hacks. Hope you sell more on eBay!!
Damn that sucks man. I don't just drop off packages EVER. I always make sure everything is scanned in and I don't leave without a receipt. Beyond that, there's really nothing any of us can do. With all of my listings, I left a blurb (since 2021) that states that due to the situations of the time, shipments can or may be delayed in transit. It's covered me on MANY occasions, especially during the holidays. You're a bright guy, so I know you'll turn this negative moment into a positive one. One way or another.
I never leave a post office, UPS, or Fedex without my item being scanned, I learned my lesson just dropping off packages. Thanks for the awesome content Jake!
I’ve been having this issue for a few months now. If you go ahead and just refund the buyer, keep an eye on the tracking info, once it’s delivered just call eBay and they will credit the funds back to your account and no defects. Love your videos man, cheers.
That’s not necessarily true. I have done this once but it’s not something they will always do or want to do all the time. They told me it’s a limited courtesy thing.
@@travis6343 well the rep I spoke with told me that it was part of seller protection. I’ve done it 6 times in the past month alone because of postal delays, but ok.

I knew you were going to talk about USPS before you even said anything. I’ve had MAJOR issues with their scanning activity. Been on the phone with eBay consistently the last few weeks over it. Got my first defect because of it which they said I could get removed but now they are not removing it. So unreal. They lied to me. It’s just not fair man. I could talk hours on this issue, and I’ve been diligent on checking all my tracking for my items every time I ship them and filling in the customer early and often.
It's ok to have 1 inaccurate defect & it may be due to a bigger issue...I left a comment to explain Jrides problem solve. Hope this helps you sell more on eBay!!!
eBay customer service associates are pretty much useless. They blather on and on in broken English when we could just get to the point. They read off of menu prompts, make promises they don't follow through with, and if you are successful in calling back to try to correct what the first associate promised you have to go through it all over again - and they may give you a different answer. eBay totally sucks now. Ran by bankers.
This is why I slowly built up a few back up stores over the years. If something goes wrong with the main one, you can quickly swap over to the smaller back ups until you get the main one sorted out.
Yes, before JRide looses thousands of $s in sales and pays lots of extra fees, couldn't he just export his listings and then import into another store. I think he uses some cross-listing tools that provide export/import functionality.
They used to scan at acceptance at the post office here. The new crew does not scan. Also, my mail carrier used to pick up my packages and scan them. New personnel said they were just "new" and didn't know about it. If the items are over 100 dollars, I have been going inside to get a receipt. Some items do not show activity until almost delivered or delivered. Hope it all works out for you and everyone.
There can be a lag between the tracking updates (and it's weird since it has been happening often for a while). Othewise, there may be a larger system issue so I left jride a comment to explain a possible solution. I love my mail carrier who scans all packages but she isn't always on the same route. Wish there was a way to request a favorite mail carrier
Man, this has happened to me too! I lost my top rated a few weeks ago! My late shipment rate went from under 1% for the last 4 years to all of a sudden my late shipment rate went to 7% and still climbing! Its very discouraging! Also, our post office says they have a new policy where they only have to scan 5 packages! I feel like the savings for ground advantage was NOT WORTH getting worse service from USPS! I am going to look into the new fed ex express flat rate packages and just try to have actual reasonable shipping times again!! I had something take 2 weeks to go over to the next state!!! Just a few months ago that would only take 1 day! Be there next day! Its such a shame! Its a govt funded entity! They should just give the post office whatever it needs to run at top efficiency so we can just have bragging rights for being a modern society with a very good shipping system!! You know, like a few months ago!! All this money they throw away but wont spend it on an important infrastructure govt owned entity! Makes me wonder!!
Did you check for any mail delay in the area you were shipping the item. Here in Houston distribution center there was like a 2 month delay. They were switching out mail machine and couldn’t fit in the building. It was a big deal and Atlanta is going through something similar. My package were scanned in and left the building but never scanned in after. They were sitting on the dock at the warehouse for month or 2. It wouldn’t hurt to check.
The business shift from letter mail to small package delivery has the post office competing with all other carriers plus mega-retailers to deliver their orders. 1-5 lbs is a sweet spot & there's a different platform I forget the name, maybe "what-something) that has an $8.35 1-5 lbs Priority Mail rate. Hope this helps you sell more stuff/whatever u can, whatnot on eBay!!
Yes, it's pretty bad. I think the changes really screwed up the Southeast. I have recently had packages (from NY) take 16 days to Georgia, 12 days to Mississippi by Ground Advantage.
You need to keep an eye on your shipping and file USPS claims ASAP. My friend is a very large poster seller and USPS has lost hundreds of his packages. In the past 2 months he received over $2,000 in lost claims from USPS
I’ve been denied on my lost package. I’m still working on getting my money back. It’s theft when they take your money and don’t get the item to its destination. I don’t understand how it isn’t theft. I had to refund the buyer for the cost. I’m going on my 2nd appeal. Just waiting for them to send me the letter.
@@WyattKing. But trying to get your money from the package they lost is another story. I’m going through that right now. So far they owe me $59 for the item and over $19 for the shipping. Just because they say it’s insured doesn’t mean they’ll pay out. I sent them a copy of the receipt I got when I dropped the item off, the invoice of the value, and a screenshot of the listing. They denied my appeal. I’m just waiting for the letter to know where to go now.
@@dianem6951 over the phone I’ve always said the items value is $100 and I’ve always gotten my money back when I provide the tracking and it hasn’t updated for weeks/ lost.
Couple years back, all the items I shipped for AZ got stuck with USPS ( like 300 items) Talked to the lady at the post office and she said that day was bad ( like Nov 28th) and the trailers just got parked. Customers got stuff in Feb. You are NEVER in control of your business
It's your printer. I take everything in and watch them scan it and at some point my printer head needed cleaning; you could tell b/c the labels stopped scanning when I dropped them off and they had to hand enter the tracking number. What the clerk told me is that moving forward it would ALL have to be hand entered and there was a good chance the handler would not take the time to do that so I would not see tracking until it arrived at it's destination. And that's exactly what happened with that particular package; no tracking showed up until it arrived at it's destination. Now I clean my printerhead once a week. I don't use a thermal and not sure what the analogous action is on a thermal printer, but you might want to look into either a new thermal print head or a new printer if you use a thermal.
Go to your post office first. Have them ping the item. uSPS knows where every package is. Where they are, where they are delivered. They don't publish this but my local post office is great about it. I had a package that showed stopped in some city on the way. My local post office looked it up and told me exactly where it was. They "pinged" it and it started moving again.
With 3 days for a resolution, immediately request a package search. Let customer know this usually gets a scan within 24hrs, but give it 48hrs. If it gets a scan, but eBay still does a refund, once it's delivered contact eBay to get your money back. If it doesn't get a scan, refund the customer and file for an insurance claim for lost item with USPS to get your money back.
you don't want Ebay to step in at a point they forced the refund. Uploading the treacking number it is crucial but filing lost mail search is the 1st step, USPS responds among 3 days and that is usually enough if Ebay is not able to extend days for the open "Item Not Received" case and we have to refund the buyer. Filing a claim with USPS it is easier online although the package shows delivered shortly after.
We have been doing this for years..doesn't matter if we have 2 or 20 pkgs that day, either I or my employee just wait in line to be sure all pkgs get scanned!
I had something very similar happen to me. Seven items were shipped ON TIME, but weren't scanned until three days later . There was a three hour tracking outage at USPS the day I shipped and my packages were (processed late) at a new shipping hub in Palmetto, Georgia that is having serious problems. Ebay hit me with defects for seven late packages!! My seller metrics were perfect for years. Now, I have a 1.71% defect rate. You would think someone at ebay would see that something is wrong when a seller with a previously perfect record has seven "late" shipments on the same day from a hub that is having publicized problems. I wouldn't be so upset if the defects were in line with my previously stellar metrics, but to have them stuck on my account for a whole year seems excessive. The punishment doesn't fit the "crime".
Palmetto post office is also shipping packages to the wrong states, then having to reroute back through Palmetto 3 days later. MAJOR PROBLEMS at that facility!
@@georgiagirllibra You would think SOMEONE…ANYONE at ebay has critical thinking skills🤷🏾♀️. USPS problems are all over recent news. You would think any defect related to USPS would be at least amended or prorated to a shorter time in relation to seller level. To have the stench of a defect that is not the seller’s fault stick a whole year is not right.
For me this is why it’s vital to wait in line at the post office to get all your packages scanned in. I don’t trust just dropping off my items and hope they get scanned in. Also, sorry you have to deal with falling below standard!
Wow! I shipped a package from Florida to Michigan 4/10. It was to be delivered on 4/13. I could see that stayed in Michigan until 4/16. By 4/18 it made its way back to Florida and is in transit on 4/19 to its destination. I assume it’s heading to the Michigan destination. A couple of days ago the customer reached out to me to tell me that it had not arrived. But they still want the item. By Monday they’ll file a claim with eBay. I’m not sure on how to proceed. Talking with USPS was no help. They did pay for shipping. Should I contact eBay? If so, I’m not sure what to do. I’m also wondering if I should have contacted the customer sooner when I saw that it was delayed. Any help or advice is much appreciated. I am not set up with an eBay store as of yet. TIA
I have a very poor usps service in my area, too. That is why I have one of my family members take them to the post office and get physical scans and a receipt. I hate it but I have found I have so much trouble with packages getting scanned that I have to micromanage this side of things. I am just thankful my family does that for me (they're retired otherwise! lol) so I can focus my time on other things. Even then they still lose my packages.... literally dealing with one now that the customer gave negative feedback but I shipped it next day and usps lost it and then it got found and started moving again 10 days later..
One huge problem that eBay is having since April 7, is that the shipping label for many orders are reverting back to the original address that was used to open their account. Rockstar Flipper has a whole video about it. Also their are problems with the USPS in NJ. Bridge collapse? I don't know. And the USPS are having problems with the NY office. Enhance security? I don't know. Lots of issues for sellers as well as buyers at the moment.
Assuming Rockstar Flipper is correct. He estimated 84% packages were sent to wrong addresses. But just curious...how extensive do you think the problem is?
@@stayhometoshop I know eBay has a habit of downplaying their mistakes but I don't think this is as wide spread as it may seem. At this point it appears about 40k packages have been sent to buyers previous addresses. That number is as low as it is because of the miracle of modular programming. (It is not system wide.)
USPS tracking is so good compared to mexico postal services like ESTAFETA, FEDEX, DHL, UPS. The tracking is so bad that it will only show updates of when it gets scanned at the drop off location and the final destination delivery
Jake, I had something similar happen last month. I sent message to all my purchasers after every call that I made to the USPS. I kept them in the loop. But I did have tracking information to rely on. One parcel went to ME, where it was suppose to go, and then went to Alaska. I had to watch that parcel travel around Alaskan facilities and make its way back to Seattle, and then New Jersey, and finally back to Maine. Obviously I can’t fix the customer’s experience, but it also wasn’t me fault. But I did get the drop off scan. I also informed them what the post office informed me about Ground Advantage actually having a longer delivery window than what we think when we select them through eBay. Bottom line, wait in line to get your scan if your Post Office is that bad. Pick a down time, I guess. eBay tends to have your back once that scan is in. Once its in USPS hands, there isn’t much you can do. You can’t unsend it. And it can sometimes cost you more than the product is worth to have it recalled to you through the USPS. I paid $38 for a recall on a book at Christmas time that accidentally went out Priority. I had sold the book for $12.
Yes. It happened to me earlier this week. I mailed my Florida buyers package and tracking was fine , it had showed it was in Florida and then the next day it scanned in a different state. She was not happy. I told her that it was still showing on its way and to give it a couple of more days, I would refund her if she didn’t receive it, the next day, she got it! I’m in Las Vegas and usually our post offices here are really good. Florida USPS is the state I always have issues with. My parents live there and I’ve had issues sending them things too.
I had this exact problem one time and it was an issue with my thermal printer, I had to tweak some settings and never had a problem again. You can use USPS app on your phone, scan the barcode to track it with your phone, if it doesn’t scan with your phone you will know it won’t scan with the scanner at USPS. Saved me a ton of hassle.
Having a good post office is key I do not go to my town post office. I travel to towns away and make sure every package is scanned in front of me usually 20 a day or more and never do house pick up that is a recipe for problems. Also take care of the counter workers they remember the people that treat them above average.
I'm sorry that has happened to you. I had two orders I sent out the end of March through USPS and they were very late . There was no updating tracking since I dropped it off on one so I immediately messaged both of the buyers and let them know that I spoke to USPS and that they assure me that their package is in transit to them. One of them messaged me back thanking me for letting them know. It was over two weeks before it was delivered. The other one even though late got there sooner. I had also shipped off another order that day with UPS and that got there in three days. So this last week I've just been using UPS because they seem faster and more reliable because I've been reading so many other stories about peoples packages being lost with USPS. Someone today just posted that they ordered a cap two years ago and never got it until today by USPS.
I make sure my items are scanned right in front of me… But I still have the occasional lost package issue thanks to the USPS. They recently took 3 weeks to deliver a glass bowl to a customer & it arrived looking like someone did a belly flop on the box! Had to refund customer…but you get the picture. The postal service gives us ALL headaches J-Ride!… It’s just reality for us reselling on EBay 😑!
Dang, that sucks to hear. Clearly, you have a great attitude about it, and it will be good to see how you navigate it. Your willingness to take responsibility is why you'll always be successful, even though this obviously doesn't sound like you did anything below standard. Is insurance from the PO being paid out for losing the packages, at least? Sorry that happened- that's a real rotten deal for anyone this happens to.
This happened to me during the first year of Covid. I had over 50 items go out from a weekend auction, worth over $5,000 in goods. Not one scan for just about a week on any of the packages. They were are stuck downtown at the distribution center. Needless to say it was my most stressful moment as a reseller lol. I have always wondered why USPS just doesn't streamline prepaid mail. Like a designated section for us to scan in or whatever. Way too many packages at our drop off counter, not even enough time to scan in on a busy day unfortunately ...
I had this happen to several packages during 4th quarter year before last. I filed missing package claim through usps and messaged the buyers. All but 1 eventually started moving and was delivered to the buyer. I did have to refund one. But I filed a claim through usps because it was priority mail and was insured. USPS sent me a refund check.
You need to schedule package pick up, everyday. You can do it in advance. That way they get scanned when picked up or when they arrive at the post office. It is free plus you get a confirmation number for the pick up. It is so easy to do straight from the usps website or from ebay. You have to schedule before midnight. Even if the items are slow to be delivered they are at least scanned the same day and on time. Dropping them off at the post office allows them to put aside until very last or at least the last packages they scan, very often waiting for more than 24 hours from the time they are dropped off. Also be sure you are labeling them correctly. Tape over any barcode causes delay. Loose tape causes delay. Generic printer ink causes delay. Wrong size labels cause delay. You are smart enough ... read the dmm (domestic mail manual) in your spare time, you will learn more than you might think you already know. Also some boxes are prohibted as well. Just a few tips on how to get your post office to step up!
Been there. If you sell more items, you will rise back up to Above. It’s a numbers game. Below standard is not fun since listings are suppressed. You’ve got this!
It's all about the people who work at USPS - I had a great experience with USPC local post office until they hired new people - Then I had mail that was sent back to the sender and some misrouting mail put into my mailbox. It has gotten better - so there is hope!
I have had serious problems myself with USPS. I would bet money that it is a serious problem across the U.S. I think in some way or some how that they should be looked into about it and held accountable. Their tracking system is horrible. Wouldn’t it be nice to find out their statistics on how many incidents like this is happening? LOVE YOU VIDEOS BROTHER. IM LEARNING SO MUCH. From Gahanna, Ohio.
For this reason since Oct. 23 I’m forced to wait in line at USPS with all packages to confirm a scan. It’s annoying but better then dealing with items not arrived and refunds.
My first inclination was why didn't you just refund these people right off the bat once they open the case? eBay reputation is far more important than the money for these small ticket items.
Do you use a laser printer for your labels instead of a thermal one? If so, I knew one guy that started having dozens of items just disappear in transit and it was because the label would wear away from either the printer having issues, using cheaper toner, or using cheap labels (or some combination of all of these issues). He sent me something and it stopped tracking but still arrived to me with the barcode mainly rubbed off due to his toner not adhering to the labels well. He switched to a thermal printer and did not have the issue again.
I'm "lucky" enough to have self service stations at our post offices. I pack the orders and label them. Then, as I am sourcing, I just hit a post office and scan my labels and dump the packages in the hole. I used to just drop off the packages (without scanning) since my house on the USPS route is always temporary carriers. Then I had a package that never showed scanned until it showed up 10 days later. So, I always scan my packages at a self service kiosk now.
Well, I spoke too soon. I literally had a refund request this morning for USPS not delivering since 4/5. I don't blame the buyer, I'd want a refund too. I gave it to him. Now, with my luck, it will arrive today and he'll get the shirt and the money and won't say anything and then I'll have to block him and I'm out $18 and the shirt.
@@rjunk12349 The kiosk scanning is a waste of time. Read the disclaimer screens that you click "OK" through next time and it tells you the scan doesn't count as package acceptance.
This is why I have changed my handling time to 3 day USPS shipping. It is better but not perfect. Im sure I’m going to get a negative feedback for a package shipped the next day after purchase on April 2. And it’s the 19th and the package still shows in transit.
That happens to me from time to time not very often and not in clusters. Like you said it was probably a truck that either got into an accident or robbed. Unfortunately you just have to refund the buyer.
This happened to me back in December 2023. I had a pretty good relationship with my mailman and he would scan my packages at the end of his route during the holidays because it's so dark outside and I have so many packages. Well, one night he didn't scan them and 30 of my packages were lost for 2 weeks. It sucked because I fell below as well and what hurts is going from 30-35% selling cost to 42%, but my sales didn't slow down. I now drop my packages because I just can't trust my mailman.
That sucks but I am glad that you practice what you preach and I love this "teaching thru experiences" process and I say don't go down without a fight: throw whatever you can to flip the matrix to ur advantage. Also pay attention sometimes we don't understand right away but the miracle is in the BIG picture and you can't know until you step way back! Either here we are here with you!Awesome channel your a BRAND , ACT AS THO YOU ARE A BRAND and don't allow them to push u around😊
Hi Jake, I have my ebay set at 3 day shipping because I don't live in town and don't go to town every day. But I often ship same day. But I didn't want a ding. It says I'm above Standard. 100% feedback. I have less than 100 items listed right now. Our Post office has a kiosk so we can scan the package to show it's there, even though I print the label at home. Last month ebay removed all my listing limits and they still show as listing limits removed. I'm not paying for a store. My sales are not consistent because my listing is not consistent due to health reasons. Hopefully I can list like crazy one of these days. I print my labels from ebay and most of the time tracking shows up. I contact USPS and they can sent you tracking updates to your phone. I think it's the company you go through that's causing the tracking problem not USPS. Try doing you ebay shipping without going through a 3rd party. I bet it will get way better.
I do the same too but I ship my stuff out as quickly as possible ... but because there's always a chance that I may have a bad da and can't get my items out that day or not all of them it gives me that extra time. People love that they get their items quickly too in the end when all goes well..
Sorry to read this. On the first issue: 1) Always scan your own items; Post office is busy and are often working with skeletal staff who are multi-tasking. On second issue: 2) Post office not delivering: it is out of our hands when we scan and item is shipped by Post Office, but somehow it does not reach the buyer. We are at mercy of the post offices, as some locations are very bad with backlog. Ebay should appreciate when something happens at the post office, or with the truck, weather etc. Absolutely, always try to have reserve funds for your bills at all times, especially with the present economy. Are you able to drive to another Post Office, though further away, if your present one is always having issue?
Well, that certainly is unfortunate. I’ve wondered about some of my packages because I’m in Wyoming and everything‘s got to go over interstate 80 which is closed half the time in the winter between November and April. And I’ve seen a couple of Postal Service trucks wrecked. I always thought I was being a little bit OCD check in my deliveries and shipping and all that every day but now I guess that’s probably a good thing to do.
Hey Jake. sorry you’re going through this right now brother. it sucks when you are nothing but good and helpful to others always do the right thing. yet you still have to bend over and take it sometimes for other peoples mistakes or other haters out there that will intentionally try and bring a good man down. you have been here for all of us. We continue to learn a lot from you so tell me what we need to do to help you, my brother I’m sure I don’t stand alone when I say that we are here for you. It’ll be OK by your tone. I can tell it’s affecting you. So you are human then lol You are gonna learn from this experience and grow even larger than the original plan. I am sure of this. 💪😠 keep up the grind Rockstar
I live in Georgia. The USPS sorting facility has utterly failed and I had a whopping 30 defects due to this same issue. eBay removed my top rated seller status for the second month in a row. My sales have absolutely tanked. I cannot promote my listing during this time (I was promoting at 3%). I am hoping someone can give me some guidance because eBay has not helped at all!
Hey Jride, question on digital camera flipping. How did you deal with the battery charger issue? I want to test the cameras but I have no way to without buying dozens of different chargers. Any hacks/tips? Do I just need to start collecting chargers? The ones I've come into contact with don't have the USB charging option.
Last December I dropped off three orders at my local post office, and all three packages didn't get scanned until 8 days later, but all of them did make it to the buyer eventually, thank goodness. I was in contact with the buyers throughout the whole thing, and they were all very understanding about it. However, I got 3 defects out of it. I contacted the post office, and they gave the excuse that it was the week after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which was a record-setting sales weekend. Regardless, how do you just let packages sit in your facility for 8 days, and not even scan them? 🙄 My shipping defect rate is just a little over 3.0% still. Hopefully, we will both get our Top Rated Seller status back soon. 🤞👍😉
I do take my items in and now ask for a receipt. This forces them to scan each item. But I am not selling 20+ items a day. Just a few. Sorry that the USPS is making this bad. But not surprised. And I like how you are handling it.
I started upgrading all items to priority unless it is very large or over 5 lbs, those I leave at Ground Advantage due to higher priority shipping cost. If I ship ground advantage it has too long shipping due to the USPS sending it to Georgia instead of Houston distribution center. I live 1 hour from Houston but Houston is undergoing renovations with long delays. It sucks but spending a little more on shipping is saving me bad buyer experiences. I recently opted out of ebay trying to pass my shipping discounts to the buyers because of this added expense on my shipping. It is what it is. 😅
USPS is dropping the ball a lot lately. I switched post office locations and am driving an additional 5 miles each way to drop off due to a missing package situation and it happened again after a few weeks of shipping from the new location. They're getting scanned at the locations I take them to and then they disappear. Not sure what to do but I think I'm going to spend some time on the phone with USPS next week, rattling some cages. It's not like we have an alternative with UPS & FedEx often being worse and usually costing more. Maybe if a lot of us started contacting USPS they'd look into it because clearly, someone is not doing their job.
FYI, my post office has a kiosk to self mail packages. I thought it was just to purchase the postage, but found out today from the post office clerk that it also has a scan feature to scan your package as being mailed. So technically you can do the scan at the kiosk before placing in the drop box inside the post office.
What size town do you live in? This concerns me because I don't have this problem here in California they always scan everything but I'm about to move to a small town in the middle of nowhere with 4k people so I worry this might be a common theme with small town USPS locations.
So sorry to hear this ! Hopefully, it will not affect you that bad. When I first started I got 3 Defects & I was freaking out ! I thought they would close my account. Well, I kept listing & I kept selling.
I have five days to ship out and never have a problem, but I always ship either the same day or the next I am a top rated seller and only have a store with a hundred items and sell between one to two cheap items per week it’s just a hobby. Your awesome at what you do and we learn so much from you 😊
Ive lived in ohio where i have had these same issues. (in CA now) you can go to your usps location and complain or even try dropping off at a new usps location but even calling into your location and talking to a manager making it clear this is an issue, they might handle there staff but.. its all bs and such a headache to deal with.
Oh this sucks! I'm sorry! I'm sure you've considered all the options. I recently got a neutral because the customer (in Hawaii) hadn't received the item. I checked tracking and it said it was delayed. I wish the customer had checked. It has now been delivered. BTW, did you get the email that ebay plans to default our shipping discount to the buyer? I haven't heard anyone else talk about it yet. I believe you can opt out but it seems to be a sign of things to come. I would appreciate your opinion.
I have been leaving my packages (10-20 daily) for a year now and they always get scanned within a couple hours. I guess it pays to know your USPS's reputation. I do have a "regular" post office but frequent others in my area too. Sorry you are having these issues!
Also I heard another reseller who had a similar issue and to boost his sales he listed really cheap items, gave money to his friends and family to buy them and leave positive feedback. I don't know if it makes a difference once you've been downgraded but it should help boost the traffic. Best of luck!
Have you reached out to ebay for business on Facebook about attempting to get the negatives removed? Sometimes they can do things that calling in cannot do. You may have to talk to the post office to figure out what may have happened and if it was a truck, wreck get a statement from the post office to help plead your case.
The hit on traffic for being below standard is worse than the additional 5% fee. eBay supresses listings significantly while your account is below standard. Ive been there its tough. In the long run it makes you a better seller
Recently adjusted my SOP to waiting in line and have everything scanned in before leaving the post office due to this exact reason. Time is money and now (unfortunately) waiting at USPS is a cost of doing business. ***Side note..:my prediction for your sales drop due to this…less than 10%
Wow! This shipping mess was happening to me last month too! I had 3 that “got lost” after the first scan. One of them was a $5000 coin. All of them actually showed up though. The were weeks after sent though.
Thanks for sharing this good information. I have started trying to ship nearly everything priority mail (because of the shorter time to file a claim) or via FedEx.
Hey man, just wanna say I love your videos and glad to hear you’re facing your adversities like a man. Anyway, can’t wait for more content. God will lead us, always remind ourselves of this. 🙏
I doubt that the truck was in a rollover. I actually work for the post office and some facilities are woefully understaffed and poorly managed. More than likely they are sitting at a distribution center and will eventually move and get delivered.
The post office near me has an APC (Automated Postal Carrier) so I can ship and scan 24/7. Outside of convivence, I've found that by removing a desk clerk I haven't had packages go missing. My guess is that when they empty the APC it goes right to a bin to get sorted and that's definitely not always the case with the desk. YMMV.
Does scan by the Kiosk count? I now have 2 day handling time but most item ship next morning. I’m just top rated (not plus) seller. I’m thinking about changing to 1 day handling time but I’m not sure about that. Hope your account better soon.
If it were me, I’d call them many times and keep trying to get different reps until one of them removes the defects. You did everything Ebay told you to do.
I usually wait in line with my items to have them scanned. Or I scan em with the kiosk myself. But also I'm always double checking my sold tab to check on tracking
I hate this happened to you. It could happen to any of us so don't beat yourself up over it. I'm sure you will figure out a way to bounce back before long. Everyone that has ran a business for awhile has hit hard bumps in the road. It's a learning opportunity during the process. Do your best to stay positive. I believe buying very high STR is crucial during this time and possibly buying/listing a little less. Just give it a little time and everything will run smooth again. 😊
I’m so lucky that I live in a rural area where I schedule a porch pickup for the uSPS. My mail carrier is amazing and has always scanned my packages immediatel
That's why I make sure if items are being tracked I have them scan it at the post office before I leave. Anything letterpost I don't do tracking for because it costs too much. I think people in Canada tend to be more patient on getting their items, Hopefully you can get everything fixed up in the near future. Note that I just heard today from another youtube reseller that he got an email from Ebay that items may be going to the wrong addresses due to 2 weeks of site issues that is causing shipping to go to older addresses.
Oh yeah one more thing ... find out about scan sheets. It lists all packages together and the post office just scans the one barcode number. James talks about scan sheets on his videos or just ask him directly at my great reselling life. It is why he prints all his labels at one time.
My basement, where I run my business from, flooded and I am out of business for several weeks. I’m so afraid that I will be dropped below TRS. 😢 I’m so sorry Jake! So Post Offices are not as good as others.
Oh my goodness, half my house is my basement and it flooded back a few months ago, I lost so much and still recovering..I feel your pain. II wish you the best, stay positive may God bless you
Have u contacted eBay to ask if u are covered under extended seller protection (due to bad weather?)...they mentioned that weather-related protections were highest recently on eBay for business podcast. Just curious if it helps???
@@stayhometoshop I didn’t know they had that. It wasn’t weather related but my neighbors water heater in his townhome burst and flooded his unit and mine. Can’t hurt to ask them though. Thank you!
Very concerning… I’ve recently experienced multiple instances of representatives giving me different inaccurate advice about an item shipped overseas that was stalled after clearing customs. The situation was already stressful, but finding out over and over that “the last rep may have misspoke” or “wrote the wrong info in the notes”. Things eventually worked out and of course the customer received the item a few days after they were refunded by eBay. I wish you all the best.
If your USPS has a kiosk use the kiosk to get your own scan instead of walking in and just dumping everything in a bin. We all know the post office is trash at getting scans. They won't change, so you need to. If there's usually no line at your post office then go in with a scan sheet and ask if they have a better way. Some places will have a business center where you can drop off bulk and get it scanned easier.
I used to sell tons of DVD's on eBay using similar mailers as yourself. This would happen to me probably 5 times a month and I would refund the purchases instead of losing my rating. I also used to sell on Bonanza. Not sure if you ever checked them out.
Yes, my post office is often a day late in scanning items. They’ve also have scanned them in but then item goes dark for a location a location and then finally scanned. I have 3 day ship in place and usually do 2 day ship, giving a 1 day pad. If I have a lot to ship all do 1 day ship. I don’t do high volumes for sales.
thank you for this. same thing happened to me. i live in STL and the tracking is crazy, sometimes the PO doesnt scan, sometimes it goes to the West when it needs to go to the East, then it comes back hopefully. haha. but... chin up. i dropped a bunch of prices and got sales that way. and now it says that i will be Above Ave after a month. It felt good to hear that it wasnt me.
What about trying to take your shipments with you and dropping them off before or after you get to your D.I.s in northern Utah. Just changing it up and seeing if they have better service. USPS has now lost about 1-2 of my packages every week for the last month
I buy my labels online and scan each of my packages individually at the self-service kiosk. But recently there was a printed notice that said something to the effect that even though you are scanning your package at the kiosk and get a receipt it doesn't actually count as being scanned in until an actual post office employee scans your item. I thought that might be since you could tell eBay, Pirate Ship or the machine it's any size and weight and it may not be accurate, or maybe you never dropped it in the chute, but if scanning at the kiosk doesn't even qualify it as being checked in I wonder what the point of scanning the barcode at the machine is even worth.
Yep. One of the screens that you click "OK" on at that kiosk even says that the scan doesn't serve as "proof" of mailing. The problem is, you could scan at the kiosk and then walk out of the building with the package in your hands. I used the kiosk a couple times, then one time I actually slowed down and read the screens I was clicking through, and have never used those kiosks for scanning again. It's pointless.
My post office will not scan in more than 3 items. I do a daily porch pickup but the carriers dont often scan in the packages at pickup. My carriers say an item isnt truly scanned for insurance purposes until it reaches the post office and it gets scanned in.
I stand in line as well every day I just got 2 defects from items that I gave refunds for before they were even shipped.
Our post office has a "policy" to only scan 6 if there is a line behind you. Probably not what they're supposed to be doing.
Clever!
Hey! thats such a wise way of coming back to above standard!
I think it''s similar what offline businesses do at times called lost leader. The idea is to generate extra sales as quickly as possible even if it's a loss to get people looking at your items again .... and on Ebay it will get the algorithm generating extra sales due to that.
Very clever!
It may be due to a bigger issue...I left a comment to explain. 😲
Yeah they can be scanned in but then we cross our fingers.
@@marisarodz I never thought about that, hmmm.
so don't you have insurance tracking?
Some post office will not scan them. I don't know why people don't get that.
My post office will not scan.
Anytime you have a claim against you always refund the order before the date ebay gives you never let ebay step in unless tracking shows delivered
I’ve been having this issue for a few months now. If you go ahead and just refund the buyer, keep an eye on the tracking info, once it’s delivered just call eBay and they will credit the funds back to your account and no defects. Love your videos man, cheers.
I didn’t know that thank you!
@@JrideFlipsu didn't answer the other question
That’s not necessarily true. I have done this once but it’s not something they will always do or want to do all the time. They told me it’s a limited courtesy thing.

Makes me appreciate my small town post office and employees!
I also lost my top rated seller status due to USPS refusing to scan my packages
If the Government were proficient at delivering packages, then FedEx and UPS would not exist!
This is where you put more focus on Mercari and Poshmark to make up for it as best you can. It’s a good thing you are diversified.
Mercari isn’t even worth listing on, I get where you’re coming from tho

Did you check for any mail delay in the area you were shipping the item. Here in Houston distribution center there was like a 2 month delay. They were switching out mail machine and couldn’t fit in the building. It was a big deal and Atlanta is going through something similar. My package were scanned in and left the building but never scanned in after. They were sitting on the dock at the warehouse for month or 2. It wouldn’t hurt to check.
Sorry about this. DeJoy is doing his thing on the USPS!
True. You nailed it! My hubby retired from trucking for USPS, and the service has gone downhill in the past several years.
Yes he is.
Thank you, Glad someone said it. (usps insures up to $100 per package)

If they went USPS grounded advantage.
They come with insurance on them so make sure you go after the Post Office on that..
Couple years back, all the items I shipped for AZ got stuck with USPS ( like 300 items) Talked to the lady at the post office and she said that day was bad ( like Nov 28th) and the trailers just got parked. Customers got stuff in Feb. You are NEVER in control of your business
This is why I go to the PO and scan them myself. Works as I don’t sell more than about 30 items a week. Thanks for positivity about eBay!
😊😊pp
That was actually very helpful advice. Thank you!
Thanks! That's great info!
Every package with tracking
I wait in line at USPS and make sure everything gets scanned and I have a receipt for every package.
We have been doing this for years..doesn't matter if we have 2 or 20 pkgs that day, either I or my employee just wait in line to be sure all pkgs get scanned!
Same here.

Yes, same here, problem solved.
Me too. I don't leave without receipt in hand.
Sounds like extreme punishment for not your mistakes!
Same here...I had 9 defects in one week due to the new Palmetto Georgia facility. All over the news...eBay would not remove them.
@@georgiagirllibra
You would think SOMEONE…ANYONE at ebay has critical thinking skills🤷🏾♀️.
I was told USPS doesn't scan all the time, especially on a long distance ride. Will scan at the end. That sucks
USPS tracking is so good compared to mexico postal services like ESTAFETA, FEDEX, DHL, UPS. The tracking is so bad that it will only show updates of when it gets scanned at the drop off location and the final destination delivery
Very true!
Jake,
I had something similar happen last month.
That’s bound to happen when you leave packages on the counter or drop box. Not worth risking your account health. Get those acceptance scans
The postal service gives us ALL headaches J-Ride!…
It’s just reality for us reselling on EBay 😑!
I don’t think it’s EBay. Actually EBay provides a link to USPS directly now. USPS has been messing up all around, not only with eBay sales.
I delivered mail in Ohio usps can be a shit show
For this reason since Oct.
You only want to use a thermal printer anyway
What a nightmare. You should sue usps.
I do take my items in and now ask for a receipt. This forces them to scan each item. But I am not selling 20+ items a day. Just a few.
Sorry that the USPS is making this bad. But not surprised. And I like how you are handling it.
If you're too busy to walk in and watch them scan it, maybe pay a hs kid to do it?
Heck ya!! where can I hire you!!
In this business we learn something new everyday
UPS Surepost doesn't update the tracking until the day of delivery btw
That's why I make sure if items are being tracked I have them scan it at the post office before I leave. Anything letterpost I don't do tracking for because it costs too much. I think people in Canada tend to be more patient on getting their items, Hopefully you can get everything fixed up in the near future.
Note that I just heard today from another youtube reseller that he got an email from Ebay that items may be going to the wrong addresses due to 2 weeks of site issues that is causing shipping to go to older addresses.
Jake-have you watched Rockstar Flipper's UA-cam post of April 19 re the eBay address glitch?
