- Another twist in the MotoGP rider market for 2025, as Enea Bastianini & Maverick Vinales sign for the re-branded Red Bull KTM Tech3 team in 2025 on multi-year deals.
Bastianini's move wasn't a surprise, but Maverick Vinales' move certainly surprised many as he looks to become the first rider to win on four different bikes in the modern MotoGP era.
The question that many will now have is who gets the 2nd seat Aprilia for 2025? Will it be a rider from Trackhouse? Or will Aprilia sign an Italian rider? Or will they look at Joan Mir as a potential option?

When everything was looking fairly straightforward, other than a couple pieces, KTM goes out and throws this spanner in the works.

Vinales wasn't informed Martin was entering the team. For him, it means a 'demotion', and it also meant he would have to take on extra test rider type duties that Espargator was fulfilling that he did not want to do. Vinales wants a factory lead rider status, but this was pulled from him, so he's moved on. Aprilia also expressed they erred as should have informed him but didn't.
@@G-Man01 Massimo literally said that Vinales would be captain despite Martin's signing and it's a promotion from being number 2 to Aleix. So it makes 0 sense why he left.
@@wildgold Espargarot was 'captain' before, in other words, extra testing duties. (Vinales said he didn't want to do this). And allegedly he found out about Martin on social media. So both his team manager and his fellow rider Espargarot both kept it from him, which he didn't like as it comes with repercussions. Younger Martin would be lead rider for certain. Politics. What can you do, there are probably hidden things not revealed to the public going on.

I heard some rumours that said Maverick wanted to get higher salary but Aprilia refuse it, and suddenly they gave Martin a big amounts of money.

Honestly, don’t know how Maverick couldn’t see a Martin/Aprilia contract happen especially with the pending retirement of Espargaro and Jorge being one of, if not his best buddy. This signing caught me by surprise as I thought Mav was happy there. Winning on four manufactures would be pretty cool though, either way, I wish him the best

Augusto 17th in the standings isn't going to be at Trackhouse next season. He will be gone from the Motogp grid!
Mir would be a good signing for Satellite Gresini or Trackhouse. Though Rins would be a better option for factory Aprilia as Martin's teammate.

As an American I'm obviously pulling for Joe Roberts.
For Aprillia, it can be the best ban for the buck they can get. America is wide open to get into MotoGP. If they can put some money into getting him out in public, they can really start people thinking Aprillia over Ducati...
Being on a ducati myself, I'd get me thinking.
Aprilia may sign Roberts, we will see. Prior to this year I would say he did not warrant even a sniff from MotoGP teams, but has shown consistent speed and who knows may win the Moto2 championship. Aldeguer is the odd one in 2024, he seems so up and down and IMO will not win the championship although being the favorite coming into the season.
I wish there was a good yank, but I can't see Roberts being fast enough. Shame.
Right now, he is the only Kalex within site of the championship. Gonzalez is 36 points behind him in 5th. If Aprillia was to get an American rider, now is the only time in what looks like the next decade. Trackhouse could market him with their other American teams.
He's an "older" rookie and will be a great addition to the garage. A mature rookie that might not have the flash, but a steady hand to help Aprillia get good data.
Trackhouse is not signing a rider to win the championship, so why not try and get some headway into the American fan base. While adding a low expectation, cheap rider, that can only get you more fans.
@@ori2425 There have been a few Yanks enter the series in the four-stroke era, in reality only Hayden was successful despite Edwards having a better pedigree. Remember Hayden only won 3 races total, two of them at Laguna. So despite 2006 even he never really left his mark on the series.
I see Roberts about like John Hopkins (I think Hopkins is helping Joe too). Anyway, Hopkins came in with a lot of hype and a factory Suzuki ride, but he completely fizzled out.

I would love to see a mix of manufacturers on the podium again. Except for the rare exception races are now Ducati lock out down to fourth or fifth and then, who cares?
It would've been good to see Jack Miller on a KTM. Always hoped he would go a little better. Even a win at some time. The Red Bull KTM Tech3 team should be good with Enea Bastiainin and Maverick Vinales.

I suspect Martin's arrival means the budget has been blown and they'll have to roll the dice with an up and coming rider with a smaller salary ask. Lets wait and see... Raul Fernandez or Digi to Aprilia and Joe Roberts to Trackhouse. Thats my early pick...

IMO Fernandez and Olivera may not deserve to stay, with the slight edge to Raul for his recent competitiveness. Something is definitely off on Olivera, maybe lingering injuries from last year? Trackhouse could find better riders than these two (Mir, Rins, Miller, A Marquez, Bez, Digi, Morbidelli). If Yamaha ends up with a second team I could easily see Olivera on one of them. He does have experience. His career may have peaked.

I am betting that Vinales did this because he had no choice. I think Aprilia was done with him; he is way too inconsistent. Can anyone count all the times that he has started on the front row and at the first turn 10 guys have already gone by him. I am shocked he still has a ride in MotoGP.
It matters to change the context of your thinking here. Maverick will likely win on the KTM next year or after. (This is my bet). He will go from being the only rider to win on 3 manufacturers to 4. That too - generally manufacturers who are not the best on the field. He also has the capability to win races and pull fast laps, and has one of the lowest crash rates in MotoGP. So let's look at this. He is not a championship winner, but has an all around alien status in another way. He's not going to be taking wild moves but requires the bike to be a perfect setup. So he does deserve some respect as a rider with huge potential, if a bit picky about bike setup. He has also suffered some really bad luck in terms of poor setup or a sometimes failing bike. Compare this to MuckMuckez, who has only won on the best bikes in the paddock, or near best. He needs full electronic support and other riders' data. He is also sociopathic, has no morals and is a dirty rider.
Yet we get a lot of people showing respect to MuckMuckez and zero respect given to Vinales. In a different sense, while theyre all riding for a championship - i know personally who I think is the rider I respect more between them, and who has as much raw talent and capability. Just that Dorna and MotoGP has shown significant support for one, and next to no support for another.
ps. he has moved on because he wasn't told Martin was coming in, which meant a demotion for him as he wouldn't get lead status.

Ktm only rebranded tech 3 because they were trying to get the 2 extra seats on the grid so makes sense to bring it back to be official ktm branding. Mav moving is a good move for him because Aprilia is definitely gonna prioritize Martin because they know he can fight for the championship
Yeah, KTM will surely fit him better, they are known for having a warm and friendly attitude towards riders who take a long time to find their setting and perform. From Miller and Petrucci to Raul and Remy, there's so many examples of KTM's undying loyalty and respect.

Mavrick is still a mess and will always be. Jack just has had more chances than about anybody else. He just does not have what it takes, sad because he is my favorite. If i was Honda i would hire him and Roberts as factory riders and get Danilo Petrucci and Darcia for HRC. Let the old dogs teach the new dog while Honda reinvents itself.

It's pretty obvious that Maverick suffers from some kind of Bipolar type issue so I'm guessing that he'll never be able to find a team that can handle him all the way to a championship. Aprilia needs to take a chance and get Roberts in at Trackhouse. For the benefit of MotoGP!
Bastianini joining them makes sense, Vinales joining them makes no sense, he's clearly after wins on 4 different manufacturers, cause he ain't winning any title on a Tech 3 KTM.
Strange move from Maverick indeed. Not so much because KTM is an inferior bike, but because he will have to re-invent the wheel again with a new bike - especially now that Aprilia is becoming a strong competitor. The same goes for Aprilia of course, because they will have no rider that actually knows the bike!

Roberts is 27 years old already and not dominating Moto2 by any means, I would like to see an American at Trackhouse but think Bez is the obvious choice for an Italian team. Though it would be interesting if Toprak could somehow work his way through the contracts to take the seat, but think he has made statements that he was not looking to go to MotoGP now.

There are often clauses in contracts that will release a person of the contract if certain opportunities come available, but it was more of a 'what if' statement than an 'oh this should happen'.. lighten up man.

puigs riders choice in past years are horrible. he let go rins to place marini and zarco when rins was the only one performing and won. for sure he will chose worst rider for the bike again.
