  • Hey Guys, Stubbzy here!
    I've put together a video to help you understand how to brace your front leg. Using the terms "Hover/Stumble vs Cycle" (terms often use by Steffan Jones). With Chris Woakes and Jofra Archer as examples to show you two similar movements the front leg does before landing braced.
    This video covers:
    1) 0:08 Chris Woakes example of Cycle the front leg into a braced front foot contact block.
    2) 0:36 Jofra Archer example of Stumble front leg into braced front foot contact block.
    3) 1:13 Picture using arrows to show difference between 2 different movements.
    4) 1:20 How this relates to bracing the front leg at front foot contact.
    Conclusion: This video shows two different movements the front leg can take from back foot contact during the delivery stride before landing in a braced position blocking the front leg at FFC. The importance if this has implication when coaching a braced front leg block.
    Hope you enjoyed that! Any questions drop them in the comments below, I make every effort to answer everyone.

    I think the second one is more comfortable for people like me. Pls make a video on hyperextension in arm for bowlers

      And hyperextension is legal so no need to worry about it.

    Some brace the leg naturally. But its instinctive to bend the knee to cushion the landing especially for bowlers with a jump. There are some triggers such as trying to slide the front foot backwards on landing, or dragging the back foot forward. For kids, at what age should start trying to brace the front leg?

    • @TheFastBowler
      @TheFastBowler  3 місяці тому

      I'd start as early as possible, but you can start simply with teaching running mechanics and stationary positions. At a young age their bodyweight and loading is very low so its not as dangerous as it may appear to be.

    Can you tell how to make the jump before bowling. I was told to do a jump to increase pace but my legs can't synchronise.

    • @TheFastBowler
      @TheFastBowler  4 роки тому

      It takes time to get the rhythm right. Perhaps jumping isnt the right move for you.

      Watch the interview with Simon Feros. I think he said that jumping too high will actually decrease your pace because it will take away horizontal momentum. I guess it's a balance...

      Hey mate, could be a couple of issues. Potentially technique where you may not be as stable and balanced as you release the ball which makes accuracy harder.
      Secondly it could be your focus, if you're afraid of bowling a bad ball, and you're thinking about a bad ball chances are thats what your going to bowl. Make sure you've got a positive outcome focus - if you want to bowl a good ball focus on the good ball and dont think about the bad ball.

    I’m not too sure how but I usually hover my front leg but when I tried cycling it (through a jog through) I felt super quick .
    Off a full run up I can’t do this .
    Is this a strength thing that’s making me not cycling my front leg ?
    If possible can you recommend any drills for this one mechanic alone?

      I disagree, and I used the term 'hover' not stumble - which is something Steffan's talked about when a bowler lands unbalanced at BFC. Different situations.

      I'd work with whichever method they naturally show. I probably wouldn't try and change them from one to another.
      But i would try and make sure its an effective hover or an effective cycle.

      Ideally yep! The better you block and get deep into the front hip the more you’ll snap the upper body over. But if you overstride it won’t work, and if your Balance, alignment and timing are off you’ll be compromised

    Is it important to brace front leg..Great bowler like Shoaib Akhtar did not use to brace.. What are your comment

    • @TheFastBowler
      @TheFastBowler  4 роки тому +3

      Shoaib Akhtar generated his pace with different mechanisms. Long arm pull (Sling), Strength/Power, hyper mobility. Would definitely be interesting to know if he would have bowled faster with a braced front leg block. But cricket is more than just pace.
      The goal of this video was to discuss bracing the front leg through two different movements of the front leg before front foot contact. A common Fast Bowling technique now taught, and extensively researched follows this bowling framework. Hence why I share information on it

    • @TheFastBowler

      Any aspect of Fast Bowling can cause injury. Fast Bowling in itself is a very stressful movement on the body.
      If you're bowling everyday, or not building up your strength. Chances are there's more to your injury than just the front leg bracing.

      @@affaankhan8783 My friend the last thing you want to try and do is copy another bowler.
      Every human being is different, we move differently, we're different heights and weights. Our muscle fibre make-up is different and growing up we've developed in different ways.
      If you try and copy someone else instead of working with your own natural movement to improve. Its likely you'll get confused and end up bowling worse.
      My best advice is to be the best version of yourself, not a second best version of someone else.
