---CRUISE REVIEW OF NIEUW STATENDAM CANADA & NEW ENGLAND CRUISE---
This Pinnacle-class ship boasts many of the same features and amenities of its sister ships, Rotterdam and Koningsdam. The Nieuw Statendam cruise ship includes two pools on deck 9. The aft Seaview pool offers great wake views. The Lido pool has a retractable roof, so it can be a pool day no matter the temperature outside.
Further, the ship is home to a sports court, jogging track, and a fitness center. While this Holland America Line ship might not have all the features of a mega-ship, there were plenty of ways to stay active.
For this Holland America Line Canada and New England cruise review, we dined at all of the complimentary and specialty restaurants. Overall, the main dining room was pretty average for a contemporary cruise line. Though, we did appreciate the port to table specials like clam chowder.
While the MDR was typical, the specialty restaurants were outstanding. Among our favorites was the pan-Asian Tamarind. Offering upscale classics like dumplings, red curry chicken, and other specialties, it is one of the best restaurants at sea. The French brasserie Rudi's Sel de Mer offers a variety of seafood dishes and classics like coq au vin. Additionally, who could forget the clothesline bacon and premium cuts of beef from the Pinnacle Grill.
The nightlife and entertainment on Holland America Line should not be missed. Each night in the theater, there was a new show. These included productions by the Step One Dance Company, a local comedian, and BBC Earth in Concert. This unique show pairs live orchestra music with captivating nature footage.
After the theater shows, cruisers can catch live rock music at the Rolling Stone Rock Room, piano music at the Billboard Onboard, or dance the night away at the B.B. King's Blues Club. Each of these venues also has a signature drink menu.
    ---PORTS OF CALL---
There were 4 ports of call on this Holland America Line Canada & New England cruise. Given our travel schedule, we booked all our tours through the cruise line.
In our first stop of Bar Harbor, ME, we took a half day tour of Acadia National Park. This informative tour included a drive through most of the park, with one photo stop.
In Halifax, Nova Scotia, we took the trek out to Peggy's Cove. Here, we snapped some iconic photos of this seaside village and lighthouse. Back in the city, we spent 75 minutes learning all about the province's capital as part of a hop on/hop off bus tour.
Our second stop in Nova Scotia was Sydney. This late morning stop gave us only a few hours to see the small town on our wicked walking tour. We explored the haunted side of the historic homes and churches not far from the cruise port.
The picturesque town of Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island was the ideal stop for a city tour and walk along the harbor. Along with getting some photos of the ship, we had just enough time to sample a local staple, Cow's ice cream.
Our final stop on the Nieuw Statendam Canada & New England cruise was Quebec City, Quebec. Here, we spent most of the day exploring this province. From the city parks and quaint cobblestone streets, to a maple farm and the famous St. Anne de Beaupre, this was a great final day of our cruise.

We took the same cruise in September. We had great blueberry pie in Bar Harbor, drooled over the Maine coastline, took the HOHO Bus around Halifax and did some local shopping, took a private tour of the Cabot Trail (phenomenal scenery) in Sydney, walked into Charlottetown on PEI and shopped on the main street and boardwalk, and we did a private tour in Quebec City (to Orleans and the Montmorency Falls Park). The next day when we got off the boat, we stayed at the Le Germain for a night before heading to Montreal for 2 nights (it was cheaper to fly home from Montreal). The Nieuw Statendam is a wonderful boat. Great food, great music, and really nice staterooms and suites. We will definitely sail with HAL again. I would kill for a Dive-In Dog about now… 🌭 😋

my wife and I did a 7 day one in August, from Boston to Montréal on HALs MS Zaandam. It is a smaller ship, but we absolutely loved every minute of it.

Hubby and I are looking forward to the Boston to Montreal this summer on board the Volendam. Since hubby grew up near Quebec City, and he and I have been there, done that, many times, I think that's going to be our sleep in day.

Really glad to have found this video actually. Almost every day on my recent Alaska cruise, we woke up to be alongside a Holland America ship (we were cruising with Princess). The more the cruise went on, the more tempted I got by HAL, and I reckon 2023 will be the year I squeeze one in. The ships looks beautiful - thanks for sharing!

You mentioned you wish your HAL cruise had a themed night. I cruise with HAL because they don’t do themed dress up nights.

Holland cruise looks really nice. I was on the NCL from NYC to Canada and back. Chilly in September, but nice. We are not morning people though, and the speaker/ announcements make sleeping in difficult.

We just come back from this cruise 3 weeks ago, because of the hurricane , we could n’t stop @ charlotte town & PEl but we stop @ Baie comeau, & Saguenay , captain said that is the 2 nd time we stop @ both location. Weather is only 2 days rainy while all this other days is sunny + not as windy which is good. Actually that is our first cruise , we go together with my brother’s couple totally 4 ppls , the feeling is good, food is good, we have our breakfast @8 am til 10am then we have a little walk. And we have lunch around noon for easy until 1:30pm then we have little walk, then2-4pm we play mahjong , or sometime hot tub & we book the dinning room table by 5:30pm having our supper for another easy 2 hours 🙌🍄🧚‍♀️ sometime movie, musical, or talk show

We took this cruise on the MV Zaandam this past spring and had a great time. Quebec City is amazing. We will take the southern Caribbean cruise on Nieuw Statendam next month.

We just got back from this cruise 2 weeks ago. We were unable to do 2 excursions as hurricane Ike cut the power from 2 locations. The weather was cool and windy. 2 days after getting home my husband and I both tested positive. As holland sails mostly vaccinated we probably contracted this while sightseeing

Thank you for review, I see that it was posted October 16 but what were the actual dates of the cruise? Did it finish on the 15th, week earlier? I am curious as you said you only really saw color at one port of call.

This Old Fogy wants a scenic boat ride to scenic destinations. Not interested in being on a floating amusement park, or climbing rock walls, bungee jumping or such. I just want food that is nutritious and tasty, and in adequate volume. Some of those specialty servings look about the right size to feed my Bengal cat.

We are about to cruise from Quebec City to Boston on Emerald Princess. It’s a slightly older ship with limited onboard attractions. So the focus on the itinerary is on ports, not onboard features. The food is good. The shows aren’t big but are entertaining.

Was excited to see a sale on Royal Caribbean for Quebec to NJ cruise. Talk about a bait and switch. Thinking you get a discount on posted price was WRONG. They start with list price, then discount from there. After port/tax fees added, you're almost back to original list price (and that's for a room THEY select). Yes, that was a surprise to pay extra for a room you want. Would be if they stopped the smoke and mirrors and just posted a real price to begin with. Needless to say, not cruising. 🙄

The content of the video was good, but the narrator’s voice was often hard to understand. He often dropped words or parts of words, and rushed through a lot of words. It was distracting and makes me not very eager to check out their other videos.
