    Lucky you are using varivas for examples bevaise pretty much all other manufacturers are lying about their diameters. You are basicslly talking about tensile strength, we can hardly nake informed decisions be ause most comoanies are inaccurstely claiming whier diameters and breaking strains. Apart from Vsrivas its almost bot worth thinking about so I stick to varivas when I want quality.

    About 98 percent of so called UL anglers in the USA have no clue about line. When I start my videos back up I plan on doing a line video...going in a little different direction. One of my pet peeves is US market lines. Hope you're out finding tons of fish.

    I wonder if the KK line is actually 5 lb test based on the cross section. I wonder how accurate the break rating really is...

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  6 місяців тому

      It is not very accurate but for casting disrance and sensitivity thinner line will always be better and the breaking strength is additional limitation..

    Great video I like your analysis! Most people, including myself, wouldn’t think about the volume. While researching fishing line, I learned that a lot of line in the US has incorrectly labeled breaking strength. European and Japanese manufacturers have standards they must follow and have to provide the actual breaking strength of their line but in the US we have no such standards. I’m not an experienced fisher but after researching this I’m curious how many lines have the wrong strength listed and how much diameter and volume effect the strength of a line.
    Check these videos out when you get the chance, they have more to show/say about this subject:

    So, the labels are misleading because people don't understand math 😊 the actual difference would be much more intuitive if they listed cross sectional area for sure. I finally stopped using this garbage Berkley Vanish as my leader material after i found better fly tippet thats vastly skinnier for the same strength. The Vanish is fine and caught me plenty of fish, but youre never maximizing your stealth setup using that fat timber for a leader.

    Opinion please - Orange Varivas Master Ester jumping off presso reel constantly, took a bunch of line off not overfilled as I see it but still continues. Should I continue to shorten line or is this inherent to this particular type, seems stiff. Don't have problem with red or clear varivas same 2.4 type on Vanquish or Certate reels.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  Місяць тому

      this one is stiffer but also most sensitive of all. If it is brand new it might jump the first week. Also, if u put the line on the spool wrong, it will want to jump. But even then.. its once in a while... not every single cast..

    Thank you for the informative video! What diameter and breaking strength braid would you recommend for freshwater UL fishing targeting trout and perch? I have some Berkley Fireline but this is 0.12 mm and 16lb test, therefore presumably not quite apt.

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  3 місяці тому

      I don't use braid for anything and don't have experience with it, but 0.12 mm seems way too thick. I would use 0.10 the most, but even that is thick for braid for ultralight fishing.

    Hey Victor, great stuff!
    Though i have some thoughts. Regarding the water drag, the contact between the line and the water should depend on the surface area of the line and thus the circumference. This means that the water drag is directly proportional to the line diameter (linear relationship).
    Please correct me if i am wrong!

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  6 місяців тому

      Well, technically u r right, its proportional for circumference but the message is still the same because the difference is magnified when u make a circle from a straight line. Its just rhat in one case its magnified proportionally and i. The other its to the power of two

    I landed a 32lbs asian carp below the Red Rock dam in Pella, IA with a 6lbs mono line. It took almost 30 minutes, I traveled about 75yds along the rocky banks down the river but he tired out before I did. The net used to land him bent at the handle, the jig with a Mister Twister that hooked him on the lips was bent so bad I'm surprised he didn't get off. I'm more surprised he took the jig because I thought asian carps were vegetarians or ate plankton. Just sharing to say that part of the fun of fishing is the fight to land the fish.

    What is difference nylon and polyester line. What is better in terms of less memory and good breaking strength in the varivas line in 12-15 lb range?

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish  6 місяців тому

      Nylon is more reliable. Polyester is plastic. Thats why it only goes up to 4 lb in strengh... if u make it too think it is too stiff and plasticky... The only good application is Ultralight fishing where extreme sensitivity is required. It is the most sensitive line in the world.

    2lb Vanish is .006in or .15mm. 110 yards was like $6.00. Low stretch and casts great! Knock on it in reviews is breaking strength and easily gets nicked on sharp rocks etc. I’ve loved it on casting reels, it never backlashes. Floating soft plastic allows me to throw a heavier lead head which casts further, but doesn’t drop to the bottom so fast. I wonder if you see that difference between trout magnet and Z-man creature baits cast on same jig head, same line.

    • @ifishcatfish

    great and educational video, thanks for that. by the way, I much prefer monofilaments, but at sea you still need something stronger, which is braid. it really annoys me when I have to connect the braid with mono/FC in the dark, but what's there is.
