Sonic the Hedgehog Movie - Easter Eggs & References
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лют 2021
- To celebrate the (near) one year anniversary of the movie's release, and the announcement of the sequel. I'm going to go over as many Easter Eggs and references to the Sonic series and other SEGA franchises as I can.
None of the footage in this video is owned by me, this is merely for entertainment purposes and all the footage in this property is property of their original owners.
I hope you enjoy

You forgot to mention that in the post credits robotnik scene he actually walks just like the death egg robot
Ik its so funny seeing him do it to me
oh damn he does, i never noticed that thats awesome
and now the movie death egg robot exists because sonic 2 exists
@@dukahsmom nice also what do u think about the movie 2 and very very excited in sonic movie 3 cuz agent stone heard what they said in post credit scene and in 3 sonic will know that all of this time eggman had an assistant cuz if u check he never knew that egghead had an assistant and shadow and amy rose are 100% should be confirmed I like the amy rose design and omg I like SHADOW! idk if he has guns cuz this is kids movie but idc I'm just sooo excited for 3 so what do u think will happen in sonic movie 3 and what u thing about sonic movie 2???.
@@splemlmao2320 Honestly I'm quite excited for the Sonic 3 movie and yes I knew robotnik has an assistant, I did watch through the entire Sonic X series and it was inspired by sonic adventure 1 or 2 I'm pretty sure and the scene where where sonic was surfing down a mountain of snow is a reference to the start of a Sonic 3 Game Act . What I think will happen in Sonic 3 is Shadow and Gerald Robotnik will make an appearance in that movie (Gerald Robotnik being the creator of Shadow) and Shadow always talks about being more powerful than Sonic in Sonic X which means he could maybe beat Sonic, Tails, and possibly even Knunckles! That's pretty much all I think in Sonic 3 for now.
The orchestal rendition of the "SEGA" gives me the chills
And the chili dogs too!
Shit, now I want a chili dog
I LOVE LISTENING TO ITT
@@starstrukc YEAH ME TOO
Me too dude!
Sonic riders Snap cube real time fan dubs reference Dr.Eggman: That was an illigal left by the way"
I thought I was just crazy
Uh... the fandub (unless it was reuploaded) came out on the 15th of MARCH.
And the movie came out on the 14th of February in the US.
(And since SnapCube’s crew is mostly from the US...) I can say with confidence, that they made a nod to the movie instead. Sorry to ruin the fun, but we gotta keep things accurate. I hope I helped.
Edit: Both came out in 2020.
@@Homcomru it was 3 years ago
@@Homcomru The movie came out in June 2020, so the movie referenced snap cube
@@thiccyoshi7110 The movie came out in June 2020 for Japan. It first premiered in the Paramount Theatre on January 25, 2020.
It also released in the US on February 14, 2020. The Fandub referenced the movie.
I think when Sonic saves a turtle and stated he hated mushroom is a reference to Mario, where he is opposite of Sonic here. Mario likes mushroom because they give him power ups and hate turtle (koopa) as one of his enemies.
I was thinking the Mushroom World was a subliminal Mario diss XDD
@@creativeguy1martinez693 it's most likely just a nod to mushroom hill zone, as a teaser for the next movie because it's the first stage in Sonic & Knuckles
That's some critical thinking right there.
i remember hearing the "i hate mushrooms" line was a jab at mario
Sega truly does what nintendont.
Interesting Fact: If you listen to the missles when Sonic uses them like drumsticks it sounds like the result screen from the games when you clear an act
which game?
The sonic 1 and 2 version, 3&k version, cd versions, or knuckles' chaotix version?
It also sounds like the intro of The Adventures Of Sonic The Hedgehog.
You missed the reference that Robotnik makes in the final confrontation where he states that all Sonic's high speed running is bad for his knees. This is a reference to the Game Theory video where Mat Pat goes over the same topic mentioned by Robotnik in the movie
i noticed that too!
Didn't that come out after?
@@beelzebubcrumpethorn nah the theory video was already out by that point
Lmfao youre probably joking but the Game Theory video came after the movie, plus its very unlikely that Paramount would decide to reference something said from a UA-cam channel
@@ryank2780 no it didn't. The Game Theory video came out on May 8th, 2018, well before the movie came out, or was even teased.
This was really fantastic! I don't think any other videos really went this in-depth with each Easter egg. Also the race car I believe is actually a call back to Sonic's race car bed he always had in the comics. I'm also glad to not the only one who thought the inflatable guitar was a call back to Sonic Underground.
Thank you so much 😊. Like I said at the end, I probably could of gone over 100 If I could name all the SEGA games at the start.
Another one is that Tails' device was confirmed by Tyson Hesse to be a one handed version of the Miles Electric
one thing you missed is that the "red eye" that many of Robotnik's robots have, most prominently featured as the camera of his truck, is a reference to the mini-boss of Death Egg Zone in Sonic & Knuckles, Red Eye
also, Sonic's racecar bed might be a subtle reference to the archie comics where, before the super genesis wave, sonic lives with his parents and sleeps in a racecar bed
It's crazy how carefully the directed planned everything out to have easter eggs from most games in the series. Just makes the movie a whole lot better
Damn say what you will about this movie, but you can tell it was made with some serious love to the Sonic franchise.
11:37 He also owns a race car bed in the Archie Comics, so this could also be a callback to that.
Yeah
9 year old fangirl me: I'll be called Sonya
Me now: ( sees that Sonya is Sonic's sister ) *MY IMAGINATION IS REAL*
I’ve thought of another reference. So, in the games when sonic defeats eggman by either spin dashing into him or jumping on him, he’s in a spinning formation which is exactly how he delivered the final blow to robotnik in the movie (After hitting him with a spin dash attack, it ended the fight between them and sent eggman into the ring portal). Don’t know if it was 100% a reference, but in my opinion it seems like it could be.
Hyper Potions making an appearance with “Friends” in this LEGENDARY film by Paramount Pictures is absolutely unreal
FINALY- A CHANNEL THAT MENTIONS THE DRAWING AS SANIC
thank u very much
Kinda the whole point of the drawing haha
After seeing the Sega Mega drive in the film, it hit me that in their reality the Sonic the hedgehog video games don't actually exist, meaning that the rivalry between Nintendos Mario doesn't exist
No sonic video games does exist in that reality because sonic first devoued on the Sega mega drive
9:16
When those Egg Drones "crash into the ground" it kind of reminds me of those Robot Cops from Speed Highway
When Sonic swings around the pole at 10:20, that could be a reference to Sonic 3 & Knuckles, where you can swing around poles to gain speed.
This is the best Easter eggs video on this movie I have found. Most of the other ones leave stuff out or only do like 10. But you went above and beyond finding ones I didn't even realize, and coming up with little stretches that could maybe be believable. Nice vid!
Thank you so much for your feedback! I very much appreciate it. There were more references in the movie to other properties. But I mostly tried to focus on the Sonic or SEGA related ones
@@liambiniares3182 you almost went to 100 dude good job also in the scene where Sonic using the missles as drumsticks plays the result screen music from the games
@@TheDylan0602 really, I’d didn’t hear it. Might have to go back and listen to it.
@@liambiniares3182 yeah you might be able to hear it
@@liambiniares3182 zebrahead is better than crush40
God damn, I still remember watching Sonic Underground
And that sanic meme was one my favorite references in the entire movie
That show did not age well
You can tell how much heart this movie has, man I'm so hyped for Sonic 3
6:42 That version of Robotnik’s theme will be used as General Pingas’ theme in Meme Team Episode II: Attack Of The Gnomes.
No idea if this is actually a reference but the way sonic says "oh no" when his cave's discovered reminded me of Knuckle's "oh no" when he's hit during the fight with him in sonic adventure. It just seemed very flat in a similar way, and given that the rest of the voice acting in this film is great it seemed to stand out.
8:12 I hope even more Badniks appear in future Sonic movies
In Sonic 2, we saw the Buzz Bombers, and in the comic, we saw Crabmeats, but one of my predictions for Sonic 3 are Motobugs and Crabmeats.
It looks like the sequel has some Easter eggs that I couldn’t see clearly.
_But I’m glad that I watched this video._
i honestly enjoyed this. honestly you never know the references and easter eggs till someone spots em'
I can’t wait for Sonic to sing Baka Mitai in Sonic The Hedgehog 2.
2:45 the teleportation rings can also be a reference to Sonic 1 where you jump into the giant rings to go to special stages and collect the chaos emeralds
Yeah
Also #82 Jean Baptiste's rendition of the Green Hill Zone theme is a homage to Japanese pop band Dreams Come True. The name of the song is called Marry Me. Masato Nakamura also composed the tracks for both Sonic 1 and 2 10:32
Most video games don’t make great movies…… this is the exception. Sonic is the true neutral of video game movies, you can’t convince me otherwise
"Sonic says ............ A callback to Sonic X"
Sonic Sez
5:03
I know Nextbots in GMod are Scary AF,but that drawing made me laugh a lot
Love the bed, small note...In it Archie Comics, Sonic sleeps in a race car bed.
"Sonic says: [Absolute silence] A callback to the main theme of the 2003 animated series, Sonic X"
3:46 sonic had a guitar in the Archie comics as well
THANK YOU for pointing out that piano rendition of Green Hill Zone's theme.
I grew up with AOSTH and honestly all the references to it give me such a big smile
And seeing the man behind Grounder's voice was really sweet to see
10:04 The tornado move in the movie actually reminded me of the opening scene in Sonic 06 where Eggman shows up to kidnap Elise and then Sonic saves her.
I love all the references. I pointed out a lot while watching my first time but the sheer amount means even a total sonic nut like myself doesn’t even see them all
Seing this now, the part where it mentions his eggmobile, the actual one is in the sonic 2 movie lol
Wait a second. Mushroom Hill Zone, from Sonic and Knuckles. Sonic sends Robotnik there, and then Robotnik comes back with Knuckles in the new movie. IT ALL FITS!
“This might be a stretch” - proceeds to point out something that was definitely a reference
Sonics race car bed resembles the bed he has in one of his comics and the attic is also very similar to the movies attic. Enjoy sonic 2 !🍿
12:13
one thing to note is that the background for the Wrecking Balls is using the Collision Chaos Bad Future background from Sonic CD.
6:04 I believe that was a badge, but you can see something that looks like one of the flowers on wade's badge.
The easter eggs not only never get too old and interrupt the story, but they are a nice icing on the cake with a good cherry on top! It shows much they try to be faithful to the games as possible within their budget, a simple small detail easter egg referance is better than no easter egg referance
In the end of the movie when Robotnik shows up in the mushroom planet, he says:
I'll be home for christmas
And the trailer for Sonic 2 came one weak ago and it's not very far away from christmas so that is maybe a refference or something? I don't know but maybe
One thing that we know Mr Gary Chalk is that he voiced Optimus Primal from Transformers Beast Wars and Transformers Beast Machines, as well as Optimus Prime from Transformers The Unicron Trilogy. I didn’t notice that when watching the movie, but that is a coincidence.
SONIC UNDERGROUND WAS MY FUCKIN CHILDHOOD BRO I WILL NEVER RUN OUT OF REASONS TO LOVE THIS MOVIE
for the sega thing, when it zooms out you can also see sonic 3, sonic unleashed maybe?, the halfpipe minigame, and the sonic 2 title screen.
i love how they refrenced sanic, its legendary.
i love the part when sonic said "____", probably the funniest scene in my oppinion
the sanic was the only Easter egg that I noticed when I watched it
Paramount: so how many references do you want?
Sega: *yes*
"We can see other Sega games in the Sega opening logo, although I cant name all of them"
You named like 15 different games while Sonic was the only one I knew.
Can’t wait to see all of the Easter eggs and references in Sonic 2. It’s really interesting to see all of the references.
The scene where sonic falls off the building in San Francisco is i think a reference to sonic adventure where he also runs on the side of a building
If you read the name of the Coffee Shop. It’s called “Mean Bean Coffee Shop” this is a reference to “Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine”.
I Love This It Makes Me Very Happy Love It Keep It Up! Btw In The Final Fight Scene Sonic Hits Eggman Like 27 Times
How does this not have 1000 comments? This video is amazing!
I just realized big rings from sonic one teleports you to the special stage like how the rings teleports sonic in the movie.
6:40 i never noticed that till now, and i like this version of robotnik a bit more now
The island sonic runs around on has a striking resemblance to the south island of sonic 1 8bit in that wide shot
Outside of Sonic, SEGA has many iconic games
Hi Liam thanks alot for all your research made an interesting video
4:38 “Could be”? That was OBVIOUSLY a reference to it. Confirmed further by knuckles being in the upcoming sequel
I'm guessing you've watched the film now but this is even better now 🤣
I'm excited to see the sonic movie sequel's Easter eggs wonder what they will look like (besides the ones we saw on set lol) also the ring sound effect plays more in the film besides the scene when sonic grabs one of his rings with one of his quill I'm not kidding also sorry if I'm commenting on this to much I'm just excited
"This may be another big stretch": The video
I’m surprised no one noticed that sonics shoes in this film are literally the shoes from sonic adventure
Edit: at the end of the film when the olive garden guy says "uncle sam would like to have a talk with him." referencing uncle sam aka sam speed from sonic x
im suprised you didnt notice that they are puma shoes
before we watch sonic 2 I can't believe I missed so many details I hope sonic 2 that you will do more about it
I'm here after seeing the second one, and it's AMAZING
The rings reminded me of the rings that take you to the special stages in the classic games (other than sonic 2, that one is for star posts)
I'm not really a Sonic fan, but I'm sure enjoying this movie and the sequel. Not only that it added references to the game, but also numerous pop culture references that weren't shoehorned.
I hope you make another one of these for Sonic Movie 2, I'm a massive Sonic fan and even I missed some of these references since they're so small
10:40 I love this part
62 actually isn't a big stretch, it really is a direct reference to the final cutscene of Sonic and the Secret Rings, where it shows that Sonic sentences Erazor Djinn to forever live inside the magic lamp that was given to him by Shahra earlier in the game
love how 30 of these are before the movie starts
I might be wrong but in the chase scene robotnic says "that was an illegal left by the way" which I think is a reference to the sonic riders fandub.
Sorry for any audio or visual inconsitensies, still adjusting to my new software.
cant believe he never said that the red eye on robotniks van looks like the red eye boss from sonic & knuckles
3:50
Sleet and Dingo the best Animated Henchmen ever
The car in Number 85 is a reference to a comic where Sonic sleeps in a car
I loved this movie. They truly respected the games with this one. It is a known fact that most movies based on video games were an absolute failure.
But movies like this one, Mortal Kombat (1995), Silent Hill (2006), the first two Resident Evil movies, Tomb Raider (2018) were pretty good.
3:03 a non-blocky version of this map appears when sonic is looking at that map of possible places he could go
When you said that there was Daytona USA in the sega logo, I believe that it was the arcade version of Virtua racing. I highly recommend checking it out if you can because it’s a ton of fun
I KNEW sanic was tied to crazy dave’s drawing!
Sonic's floppy guitar is a reference to the first episode of Satam Sonic where we first meet him playing for a walrus asp tails is chased by buzz bomber.
Aw man he didn’t count the donut lord calling the ducks crossing the street “Daffy, Daisy, and Donald”
He didn’t say Scrooge either.
He did count that
@@alphanalghali1081 where?
@@SeerFloat why are you asking
@@alphanalghali1081 cause I want see it
Little reference I noticed:
One line from Eggman is “That was an illegal left by the way!”, referencing the Sonic Riders Fandub by SnapCube where Jet says the same line, word-for-word.
In the Sega opening screen also showed Sonic Unleashed which it was hard to tell.
The planet in the left could be a reference to mobius or it could be a reference to little planet from sonic cd as we know that little planet is always moving and the drawing on the map looks like the planet is shaking or moving. 4:42
in 10:30 it could maybe be a reference to sonic dash on mobile where you make attacks to the bosses from many angles like in the scene
This might be a stretch but Sonic running might be a reference to him running in the video games
Bro ur high
@@kasc5598 I was making fun of him trying to make everything an easter egg
The song "Don't stop me now" i met before i saw the movie.
According to the director the slow time reference to Over the Hedge a DreamWorks animated film
You forgot to mention that his bed is also a reference to the comics, where Sonic also has a race car bed (albeit a differently colored one)
5:54 I thought it was a reference to KNUCKLES BASEBALL from that one terrible McDonald’s commercial from Pakistan
10:04 or from Sonic the hedgehog when he saves Elise
I didn’t watch the movie and didn’t plan to but now that I know that they made a snapcube dub reference I want nothing more than to see this movie
