Here is something to check for smells. If you have plumbing vents under the sinks and did not replace them, you should consider doing so. The rubber diaphragm gasket will go bad and cause odors to escape. If the vent goes all the way thru the roof, there are vent caps or wind directional fins you can install to stop wind from blowing down the vent pipe. Also, the gray water tank can get pretty nasty. Buy a gray water treatment, put in the tank when traveling to a full hookup, then empty upon arrival. Just some tricks I learned over the past 18 years rving. Yes, fixing rvs is part of the experience. Lots of you tube videos to help you. Have fun!

I've been full-time rving for nearly 20 years. I do all of my own maintenance and repairs, and nothing about this lifestyle bothers me anymore. I will never go back to a house, although I could if I wanted to. This is the perfect lifestyle for all of the reasons you mentioned. Once you get past the learning curve, the road flattens out, and what bothers you now, will become just another day. Living in a rv isn't cheap, isn't easy at times, and can be frustrating. The rv life isn't for everyone, but for those of us who have endured the hard times with the knowledge that there are more hard times ahead, we appreciate the good times that much more. Keep your heads up and be proud when you conquer the challenges ahead and if you can endure the hard times, you will never go back to bricks and sticks again.

Great video! We live in our bus full time and we have been full time for six years now. Anytime you travel with your RV its registered around five to six on the rector scale going down the road. Most RV’s are not meant to be lived in full time but can be managed. The longer you do this the easier it gets. There is stress related to living in an RV for me its going to places I have never been and hoping if I take the wrong turn etc I am able to turn around and get back on the road. Planning where to go and stay for how long what to see etc. For us the biggest two things we deal with is mail and Doctors appointments. It gets better just stay positive because things could always be worse. I like having no mortgage payment, no mortgage insurance, no property taxes, no school taxes, no yard to mow, no electric bill and water bill along with sewer and trash bill etc. Take care guys and I will sub to your channel.👍👍👏🇺🇸👊🥑❤️

Ok, but you still have to pay for water, electricity somehow , vehicle insurance, and dump your water for a fee sometimes. So if you pay for any RV park camping fee's, then depending on how many days, it could add up to several hundred dollars per month even if its only half of a month.

I use to nomad van style and really enjoyed it (4yrs). It had its ups and downs, mostly shower/bathroom situation. A year ago I bought a 5th wheel (38ft 2 bed, 2 bath) and I honestly hate it. So much work and things do break down quickly full timing. RV parks are a slot pull. Some are like slums and others are so stuffy you don't feel comfortable being you in them. Pets as you mention, it makes me stress that i feel like i cant give them a freer environment all the time as you can with a home. Moving around is so much work. Hooking up and unhooking, and all that is in-between to do, it is so much work. The small space, making a bed, cleaning the 12 foot high cupboards, the lack of wall space for homey decorations or family photos. No permanent residence is tough with mail and health care. If you have any chronic condition I wouldn't recommend rv life ever. I honestly can't wait to be in a permanent location again.

    Very nice channel!
At 68 years old -I’ve been 2 years living (alone) in my 28’ TT
I decided on a compost toilet as I didn’t wanna deal with any black water-that’s been working out great.
I was surprised at how stressful and tricky it can be to pull this 28 foot travel trailer with an SUV that can barely handle it first of all and just the day-to-day road trip issues that one can have
Keeping it level and chalked and hooked up when you set up and stuff like that
I’m looking forward to watching your channel and seeing your adventures and seeing how it works out for you guys!
My first travel trailer that I bought was a smaller vintage one similar to yours- but I realized it needed way more work than I wanted to put into it… you could see the road through the floorboard in spots.
    😂
Wishing you fun and safe travels and looking forward to watching your channel😊

Ours RV is 7 years old and yes, even with part-time use RV's have lots of problems regardless of brand name or investment. We've purchased new twice and both rolled off the lot with multiple issues. The dealer wasn't motivated at all too fix them after it was delivered either. It's best to be a bit handy and keep up with the maintenance yourself.

We’ve been living in an RV for about 4 years now. The privacy and the sounds from other sources can be handled by what rig you choose. We have a 5th wheel, one main room and a bedroom. No privacy. Now we have a longer travel trailer w/3 rooms. Bunkroom is the office, main living room and the bedroom. Close the door to the bunkroom or in the bedroom, it’s like a vacuum seal room. Hardly any noise gets in except outside the window. And the maintenance needing immediate attention, it depends on the kind of person I are, I like getting things done now. My partner likes to procrastinate, I hate that because like you said these things need immediate attention, it pushes him to act and be more responsible otherwise he wouldn’t be. And the smells, I think finding the source of the smell and containing that problem will help the effect. We had a gnat problem and it was coming from the trash can and sink. I just make sure there is no food left in those places for more than a day or even a few hours. Cleaning is a practiced habit it gets easier w/more practice. The gnats are gone and so are the ants. There are always different ways to fix a problem and camping makes you think outside the box of how solve a solution. I love RV life. I love that it improved my problem solving skills and help me be more creative in that way. 🎉

I’ve been in my Class C full time now 5 months now. The freedom to go anywhere is great, and I boondocking 99% of the time.
But you are correct, that having to always be alert to the tanks, water and power are a daily choir.
When I am in a place to do so, I’ll always dump my tanks, fill up on water (plus 2 more 6 gallon containers), and I have an “extend-a-stay” propane fixture I added-look it up.
The biggest thing is just go with what life throws at you, and know it will pass.
Solar is awesome, when you have enough. I have AC for very hot days, to run off my generator. Don’t you two?

    • @WorkinfortheWild
      @WorkinfortheWild  2 роки тому

Love the photo of the black cat! We chose to not have a generator due to the extra weight and space, but totally understand the value. We have never run into an issue of not having enough sun to charge our batteries fully. The only thing we can't run without electrical hookups is our AC. It was frustrating at times this summer but we don't see it being an issue going into the fall.

Great video. You 2 are young and just starting out. You'll get a system going as you figure things out. Maintenance on an RV is a constant job even if your not full timing. And when you dump your tanks make sure you use a hose and hose them out good. Use the RV safe toilet sanitizers in between dumping. They do help on the smell. Good luck. I'll keep watching.

This is why I bought an older or I should say much older well-built diesel pusher. ( 22 ) it has large tanks so I can easily last 2 to 3 weeks dry camping. And most of all has a high weight caring capability. These things are like paint shakers when you’re driving down the road so get used to tighten things up and fixing things all the time. Someone once told me just treat it like a hobby and it doesn’t make the word part of it so bad. LOL nice job on the video You two.

I do not full time RB, though I do have an RV that would do the job. My problem is cost and having a job that keeps me fixed in one spot. Just one fill up currently costs $2000 Canadian at current prices without filling the 400 liter generator tank. Being in Canada winters would be very hard so I would have to travel at least to the Southern USA. Its not always easy finding good, quiet, beaytuful settings in a 45 foot RV and some campgrounds can cost a lot. Another concern is if my wife and I sold our home, the value of the RV would drop each year whereas the value of the home would go up. If we decided to sell the RV and move back into a nice home it might be unaffordable to do so after a long period. It would be a great adventure though.

It sounds like you need a little bigger RV with lots more tank capacity. We have been FTing for 3 1/2 years in a 36' 1999 National Tropical Class A MH. We were lucky in that it was in really good shape with only 28k miles and we got it for only $15k. We have found that we love to boondock most of the time. We boondocked continually for all of last year until June of this year. Our 100 gallon freshwater tank usually lets us go the full 2-week BLM and NF camping limit. If not, we carry 3, 5-gallon collapsible water jugs in our little 30 mpg toad that we can use to pick up a little extra to get us through. Having a 50-gallon black and a 50-gallon gray tank helps too. We often transfer some water from our gray to the black tank as he gray tank always fills first. Our 24-gallon propane tank helps extend our stay too and is one less thing we need to worry about running dry when we least expect it.
Another advantage of our older motorhome is that it has good bones (very sturdy) with features like dual pane windows, good insulation and a much better carrying capacity than a trailer has. We are retired, but I have a desktop computer, printer workstation set up in the bedroom, so I can close the door and research or work on it undisturbed, while my DW watches a big 55" flat screen TV up front. We power both at the same time on a little 600w PSW inverter. We mounted a 620-watt solar array on the side of our MH to save the roof for a really big solar array planned later this year. We have been using golf cart batteries, but plan on upgrading to a larger LiFePo-4 bank in a couple months. It took us a year to get our "sea legs" and decide exactly what our FT RVing experience was going to look like. Give it time. You will adjust and learn as you go. We wouldn't trade this lifestyle for anything. It is the best decision we ever made. We both wish we would have done it sooner.

      @WorkinfortheWild  2 роки тому +1

Hi! Thanks for watching. Your fresh water tank is twice the size of ours, which explains why we usually max out at a week or so for boondocking. We also have two dogs that drink a lot of water! Totally get the appeal of a larger rig. We wanted something small because we move so often.

I agree about our labs. They do need a lot of exercise. Maggie loves to play ball. When we drive our Rv’s down a road for 4 hours it’s like taking our home through a 6.5 earthquake. So things will get lose. Maybe we will see you guys on the road.

Labs are a special breed, aren't they! We're currently boondocking and our pups are so happy they can just run off leash when they go outside. Our younger lab is much more well-behaved when she gets exercise, so it makes a huge difference!

We are thinking of moving full time in an RV to travel around north America . We would rent our duplex (we live in one apartment and already rent the other side) as it would increase our cash flow. You were the first video i fell on for education. I appreciate your down to earth views. The main thing that bothers me is the
A/C while boondocking as here in Canada its way cooler than the states and we would need to pass the cold months down south.

I'm working on getting some solar for my 5th wheel. We like to split up boondocking and on grid sites. Last trip we went out ( two months on road) by the time we got home, one toilet broke( I did fix immediately) our kayak broke the steering cable, and our side by side broke the exaust header lol. So mu h fun but everything is fixed now. We do have a home base to come back to, probably always will.

Something is ALWAYS broken in an RV. At the end of the summer, I always had a laundry list of things that needed to be fixed. And you can’t get into a repair shop in the summer, cause they are booked for months. If I go on the road again, I think I will get a van or an ambulance and put just the basics in it. The fancier your rig, the more stuff there is to break.

Your a cute couple! I sold my home 3½ years ago. Lived in a Class C for 2 years, and bought a 5th Wheel a year ago. Running out of propane when it's cold in the Winter is not fun. Air Conditioners are not as cool as House brands. I put in a window dehumidifier one to cool large part of RV. I have 4 dogs, and had fences built around my area. I live in a RV Park right off a cute lake with wildlife. I do have a small shed, and Gazebo area with Couch, hammock, table for eating. 60 mile an hour winds took out 2 of my Gazebos, so now I just have a cover over Old Gazebo frame. Right now I have a leak under my Island in kitchen. RV Businesses don't care if your swimming in pee. It's not like living in my home where everything was easy. I'm glad I can move where I want to, and also love living by a lake. I also bought a Casita Trailer 17 feet to travel to beach or Mountains.

  • @imrlaps7097
    @imrlaps7097 2 роки тому +1

    Valid.
Why not build a tiny closet sized soundproof room where he can work?
As far as smells go, I'm used to that, growing up with motorhomes. I guess it's something you'll have to adjust to.
Refilling and dumping the water is something that intimidates me too, which is why im going for alternatives, like camping toilets so there IS no blackwater.
    And manual water use.
Having different things that bother you is actually a very good thing, because one can address what bothers the other, keeping stress levels lower.
For example, if he doesn't like dealing with the water, she can do that.
If smells bother her, he can deal with the smelly stuff.
That's the major pro side to doing it with more than one person.
Also, thank you for mentioning things breaking down and rvs not being meant for full time living. Its something that's finally changing in the rv world, but its not yet affordable, because only brand new models are being winterproofed.
    Thanks for the video.

You're already compromising by not being able to use AC so you need a generator as well as solar because sooner or later you're going to need to use that AC and a generator in the long run is cheaper than motel rooms

Next time try Lava Hot Springs!
It's only about 50 miles from Pocatello and they have a swimming pool that professional high divers jump from three platforms
On plateform is as high as a ten story building!
    Hot!?
    Forget it!
The greatest innertube ride in Idaho goes through the center of Lava Hot Springs.
A 4th of July like none I have ever seen anywhere, and still a bustling nightlike in Pocatello!
    All for way less money!!
    Free camping!?
    Absolutely!
In Pebble creek, there are at least 50 spots,...all in deep timber ,high on a mountain ridge with great roads!!
    Done there!?
Head for Glens ferry Idaho and thousand springs state park.
Thousands of underground streams turn into waterfalls cascading down the side of lava rock cliffs!
    Cost!?
It might cost you dinner, but you were going after that anyways.
