Thanks Barry. Just ordered mine after this review re-affirming my decision. Looking forward to not playing Euro Truck Simulator on my McLaren GT3 wheel, hahaha.
Barry, I know you had problems with RBR in the past with direct drive wheels, just recently discovered that it’s still the best rallysim to date. Got it working with my Simucube and Heusinkveld hardware (pedals, handbrake). Currently use the vanilla version with great mods such as NGP6 (New Generation Physics), RBRCT (online and offline stages, an incredible amount) and H pattern plugin (for my Quaiffe H pattern shifter). Only issue there is that I still need to get the clutch working. But the Quaiffe sequential works as an alternative. Despite this issue I still want to keep playing it, because the physics, level design, overall detail and driving feel are so awesome.
11:47 Barry, you say no movement up/down/left/right but how about clockwise/anticlockwise? On my McLaren rim i can feel a slight clunk when say im loaded in a high downforce car in a long right and the snap to a fast left i can feel movement there in that situation and it gives a false FFB bump and it throws me off! I cant feel this bump with the metal QR and lock screw.
I hope to get a rally wheel with proper gear shift pad- rally cars use only one large pad for shifting up and down on the right side (it's push/ pull system). Also it's NOT attached to wheel (doesn't rotate). Some cars use smaller pad on the left for quick wipers deployment.
Obviously you would buy this for the buttons and the hub, which you wouldn't get with a simple momo wheel. Add a button plate and a hub, and then you would buy this for the price. This entire rim is cheaper than a stand-alone momo rim.
Absolutely not just you. I've been looking for ages for a push-pull system. Asher Racing used to sell them, but they've discontinued manufacturing them. I've found instructions on how to build one, but more often than not, when I'm messing around with anything electrical, I let the smoke out and ruin whatever I was in the process of creating. 👍🙃
Barry, for the love of God how about you turn the gold ring to stop the rubber from moving out of its correct place? I'm sure someone else pointed that out to you before but you still doing it.....
I'm really enjoying all you reviews. Your knowledgeable tear downs, and well thought out comments on design cut though all the guess work. After getting back into sims this channel has been the single source of knowledge for me. Thank you for all your hard work supporting this passion for auto sports.
Barry can you please try the new QR on a Formula v2 wheel? That has the more solid base for the new QR to mount to and we could then see just how much movement this new QR does have!
My first concern with Fanatec products is their short durability. I hope they include 5 years warranty with all their products same as they do with the DD2 so anything fails or breaks they fix it for you. ------ When you see the crazy prices of new wheel rims you know that 199 is very reasonable for a full wheel (rim, button box, QR and shifters). ----- With the studier QR it seems like Fanatec is listening to the community.
Hi Barry would you be able to look at the issue with this QR as it becomes little loos and there is some play in the QR after few months of usage. It is already discussed on Fanatec forum especially in regards to the new Mclaren gt3 wheel. Thanks
I think for the lower end parts they need to keep everything cheap. I doubt fanatec will release the plastic version of the quick release on the clubsport and podium. They will use maybe a metal version.
Barry i have a question for you: i think we are right in saying that you are retired, so here is my question: what did you do (as a job) before retirement ?

it looks bigger than 300 to me though. thats only 1cm more radius or 2cm more diameter than the stock t300 wheel which feels tiny, but that wheel looks reasonably big. looks can be deceiving i guess.
@@MixedRealitySimRacing Yup, tried to clarify with the second comment. I read into your comment wrong, thinking you were saying that console compatibility overall was determined in the wheel. My bad :)
Any1 know if it’s possible to remove and fit the wheel paddles closer to the wheel? They are around 3 inches away from the wheel and I don’t have big enough hands to hold wheel and reach the paddles to change gear. If unable to move them closer to wheel, I won’t be able to use.
Wow, they really cheaped out on the shifter buttons! No microswitch anywhere just ancient plate switches reminding me of joysticks back from Atari days!
Two days after seeing this video, I got my new R330 leather-wrapped round rim from Fanatec, which happens to be built and sewn exactly the same way as this rim, and has the same rough spots on the back of the spokes. I don't know that I would have thought of covering that up with sticky nylon patches if hadn't heard Barry talk about putting tape on his rim. Worked like a charm! A little disappointed I had to do that with a brand new Fanatec rim, but it works and isn't visible, and was a great idea.
my bathroom tile version of the CSL Elite has a button under the power button that switches between PC and Xbox, other CSL and Clubsport doesn't have that.
They announced they were releasing this awhile ago. The only real difference from the P1 wheel on the PS4 kit is the new QR. Which is obviously nice. I pretty much never use the P1 that came with my PS4 starter kit. Mostly because it pales in comparison to my Formula V2 wheel and I mainly race GT/ Formula but I'd probably use it a bit more if it had a QR. The WRC wheel is selling for $199.99 in the US.
Brennan Schafer I’ve never held anything other than my DFGT so I wouldn’t know what I’m missing out on anyways. I may just go with the stock wheel. I’m sure it feels better than this toy sized wheel so I’m fine with it. Edit: I’m finally watching the video and he said $200 for this wheel. I almost lost interest until I checked how much the Elite wheel cost...a $30 difference lol. I forgot that the Elite cost $170.
DJHeroMasta yeah, I think it’s a no brainer. There is pretty much no reason the buy the P1 right now unless they drop its price to like $120. The QR and ability to adjust and likely mod the shifters are easily worth the extra $30. Although, if you mostly drive Formula and GT and are ok with not having a round wheel I’d spend $50 more and get the F1 esports wheel.
The weak point of this rim is those blister-style switches on the internal motherboard. The downshifter on mine has already lost all it's "pop" after just 9 months of use. The shifter is now just mushy with no nice "click/clunk" feel when you shift. Returning it to Fanatec for repair next week.
My favourite game right now is Dirt Rally 2.0 and I am looking to get a more realistic rally type wheel - right now I am using the only wheel I have, the CS Formula V2, and while it works fine, and I don't notice it in VR, it is probably not ideal. So was looking at either this wheel or the CS BMW GT2 one. Which would you recommend to me? To be honest I would prefer if they made a slightly more expensive Clubsport version of this WRC wheel - I think the CSL looks a bit cheap, boxy, and plastic for my liking. That's why I am still drawn to the BMW wheel. Have Fanatec any plans for a better WRC wheel or is there a better option than these two for Dirt Rally?
I've been using the formula rim in dirt rally too, quite annoying. I ordered the WRC rim, it's lighter and cheaper than the BMW GT2 and you can order the metal QR later on. I don't like using the P1 rim that came with my CSL Elite because of the screw on fastener, it's annoying to switch wheels so I wanted a round rim with a quick release.
Hi Barry, great review! I’m waiting for my Csl dd to arrive and wanted your thoughts on which wheel would suit me best, the WRC one or the GT3? My two main sims I use are mostly Kartkraft and Dirt 2.0. Your thoughts would be much appreciated. Cheers, Dave
Hey mate,. I'm waiting fort CSL DD pro and GT3 wheel. What did you get and how is it overall. I've read the GT3 wheel is only good for f1 and GT3 and 4 which makes sense. So I'm looking at this wheel for rally Sims. Let me know what you think. Thanks

I don’t like how fanatec went cheap on the connector this time instead of having a sturdy mounting system for the wheel like the podium/club sport/CSL elite, that’s cheap crap like thrustmaster, one of the biggest reasons I didn’t buy a thrustmaster was the plastic nut that holds the wheel on that and they tend too overheat and the worsts times possible, I like the way my F1 wheel snaps on like a real F1 wheel and I don’t have to screw on a cheap looking plastic nut, I mean it’s just one hex head bolt and the wrench is supplied so what the big deal I hope they don’t head this direction on all there wheels I like the real feel when i pull back the big round chunk of aluminum back and pop the wheel on the base it just like putting the wheel in your race car if you happen to own one which a lot of us sim racers do race in RL just not at the level we can In the games most of us are low budget racers of whatever style we prefer but if we had the money to go big we could probably succeed but we don’t have the money to race at the level we want to like right now I’m a bracket racer I wanna race NHRA Pro Stock or Top Fuel Dragster but I can’t afford that at this point in my life I could probably build the pro stock if I put all my money to it but I don’t t wanna do that, that would mean no ps5, GT7, new gaming pc etc.... I already have the trailer for either 2 cars or a dragster
yes, you cant install third party software on consoles, thats impossible. And it will never be possible. You always will have to run a Windows PC for that.
momorious thanks for the reply. Isn’t the majority of the software bought from the PS Store already Third Party? If they have licensed partners like Fanatec, where’s the difference between software titles like Call or Duty, or Dirt Rally (both Third Party software) and a wheel update? Like I said, I’m no techy but I’d like to understand the restrictions.
John Findlay 1911 which means the only reason to even consider it would be the quick change. My present quick change, though ever so slightly loose, is it worth spending $200 on. No, but one of the bigger wheels, yes. Even considered the BMW rim.

Is this wheel mainly for rallying or can be used for general purposes like a normal wheel?
Can be used for any type of car.
wait! you don't have Traction loss system anymore?
Thanks 👌
Hope those of us with multiple wheels get a nice discount on these new QR units!
An upgraded QR, yet it still has more flex than many competitors.
Who are these competitors?
That’s the wheel not the QR
If you’re using a wheel with a console (PS4 for example) is there any reason firmware and software adjustments couldn’t be made via the PS Store?
yes, you cant install third party software on consoles, thats impossible.
Like I said, I’m no techy but I’d like to understand the restrictions.

this wheel has 300mm?
Wait, what? Is this new? I’m a iRacing dirt oval guy. My Csl elite wheel is bigger than what I had, but want to go bigger.
Ragin’ Cajun this is the same diameter as the CSL Elite wheel. The NASCAR wheel is 50mm larger then this one.
John Findlay 1911 which means the only reason to even consider it would be the quick change. My present quick change, though ever so slightly loose, is it worth spending $200 on. No, but one of the bigger wheels, yes. Even considered the BMW rim.
Will this wheel work for PlayStation?
Were you driving on the dbox motion in this video?
No, MotionHouse 4UN.
@@simracinggarage3026 thank you kind sir. Looks like it does a great job
