Barry’s hair! So pristine. Like a techy Fabio :)
Great to see another video from you! Thanks, Barry
His voice is so damn relaxing.
Was looking for a review of this wheel and never could have hoped for Michael Douglas to deliver it!
Thanks so much for this! Subbed! :)
Best reviews hands down! You Sir have helped me make many decisions when it comes to Sim Racing. Keep Up the Great videos! Thank You!
The new locking mechanism is the same principle as a plumbing fitting for poly water pipes. Pretty simple yet highly affective.
thank you so much for making such great detailed videos. very much appreciated.
When I stumbled across your videos and proceeded to sub I was shocked by the relatively low subs for the quality of content , was expecting half a million or more... anyways what I’m tryna say is you do great work and I hope more people can be lucky enough to find ur channel like I did , great work, keep it up
Can't wait to buy this thing. Been wanting a rally and drift wheel.
1 of the very few intros that i dont skip, what a GLORIOUS noise!
Barry rocking the MECA Cup1 pedals again!
I'm really enjoying all you reviews. Your knowledgeable tear downs, and well thought out comments on design cut though all the guess work. After getting back into sims this channel has been the single source of knowledge for me. Thank you for all your hard work supporting this passion for auto sports.
You are very detail person. Subscribing now!!!
Excelente Review Barry. Ya pedi el mio! Saludos desde Argentina.
Hola! Al final lo terminaste comprando? Yo estoy en argentina también, como hiciste para pedirlo?
Look great. Thanks for your video 👍👍👍
When my P1 does I’ll get one of these for sure.
Thanks Barry. Just ordered mine after this review re-affirming my decision. Looking forward to not playing Euro Truck Simulator on my McLaren GT3 wheel, hahaha.
Only grandpa Rowland could talk about a sim steering wheel for 37 minutes. 😊 👍
A new CSL Quick Release? Sweet
SRG need some T-shirts and other merch with "So...Lets Get To It" on them.
Thanks 👌
Nice quality control fanatec.
When he took the red cap off the release I thought there would be Pringle chips inside
it would be even nicer for Fanatec to have a stand alone QR that adapts to the CSP but hey they wanna squeeze ya for every dollar that they can get!
Would have been nice to see a comparison in flex to the p1 wheel.
Wait a sec... I do not know you do FPV drone too!
Nice! me too!
nice
Barry, I know you had problems with RBR in the past with direct drive wheels, just recently discovered that it’s still the best rallysim to date. Got it working with my Simucube and Heusinkveld hardware (pedals, handbrake). Currently use the vanilla version with great mods such as NGP6 (New Generation Physics), RBRCT (online and offline stages, an incredible amount) and H pattern plugin (for my Quaiffe H pattern shifter). Only issue there is that I still need to get the clutch working. But the Quaiffe sequential works as an alternative. Despite this issue I still want to keep playing it, because the physics, level design, overall detail and driving feel are so awesome.
Everybody who is really serious about virtual rallying knows that ;) Thanks for sharing your experience anyway!
My new wheel !
My first concern with Fanatec products is their short durability.
I hope they include 5 years warranty with all their products same as they do with the DD2 so anything fails or breaks they fix it for you.
------
When you see the crazy prices of new wheel rims you know that 199 is very reasonable for a full wheel (rim, button box, QR and shifters).
-----
With the studier QR it seems like Fanatec is listening to the community.
Hi, thanks for the thorough review, u have an amazing setup(I can’t afford) planning to get this and the csl elite (ps4) wheel base, would i be able to play ps4 games and xbox games both using the same wheel, thanks
Hi Barry would you be able to look at the issue with this QR as it becomes little loos and there is some play in the QR after few months of usage. It is already discussed on Fanatec forum especially in regards to the new Mclaren gt3 wheel. Thanks
Sim-Racing Jesus!
This is a great all round wheel.
If you're on a budget you can use this for monocoques, rally, forza or anything really
Hi, do you think the switches of the Sequential change with snapdomes are fragile? Could they give trouble in the future if you ruin the capsule?
kinda nice they put handbrake button right there in the centre
Great video, I've got a Logitech 923 and looking to upgrade. would this be a good all round wheel for all racing formats, F1, Forza, Grid, etc?
What do you think about using snapdome keys to change fanatec p1 crowns? Is it reliable enough? I know some have had problems
28:43 !!! You said it right once at least lol.
Seems like a better plastic quick release, but they really ought to just give everything that solid metal quick release. It's great.
I think for the lower end parts they need to keep everything cheap. I doubt fanatec will release the plastic version of the quick release on the clubsport and podium. They will use maybe a metal version.
Wish it came with a single push pull shifter
The wheel should have a single push pull shifter. WRC cars have never had two shifters. Missed opportunity. I would've bought one
Kind of a turn of why would you buy this for rallying over just a plain momo wheel.
Obviously you would buy this for the buttons and the hub, which you wouldn't get with a simple momo wheel.
Add a button plate and a hub, and then you would buy this for the price. This entire rim is cheaper than a stand-alone momo rim.
On the CSL elite. Is the clamp and bolt enough to prevent snapping pens?
Do you know if they are making a Podium version of the wheel?
If only all the praise Barry gave to the new QR actually came true, so many new issues have arisen with it
I hope to get a rally wheel with proper gear shift pad- rally cars use only one large pad for shifting up and down on the right side (it's push/ pull system). Also it's NOT attached to wheel (doesn't rotate). Some cars use smaller pad on the left for quick wipers deployment.
11:47 Barry, you say no movement up/down/left/right but how about clockwise/anticlockwise? On my McLaren rim i can feel a slight clunk when say im loaded in a high downforce car in a long right and the snap to a fast left i can feel movement there in that situation and it gives a false FFB bump and it throws me off! I cant feel this bump with the metal QR and lock screw.
is the wheel compatible with the clubsport 2.5 base?
Barry can you please try the new QR on a Formula v2 wheel? That has the more solid base for the new QR to mount to and we could then see just how much movement this new QR does have!
.... at the Simracing Garage........ (nod) ........... dot com. 😎 Love it.
32:00 matching shoes and gloves!
Any1 know if it’s possible to remove and fit the wheel paddles closer to the wheel? They are around 3 inches away from the wheel and I don’t have big enough hands to hold wheel and reach the paddles to change gear. If unable to move them closer to wheel, I won’t be able to use.
Barry, for the love of God how about you turn the gold ring to stop the rubber from moving out of its correct place? I'm sure someone else pointed that out to you before but you still doing it.....
The qr1 lite is so fragile the raving about this quick release didn’t age well. Also Fanatec may want to look into the durability of that joystick for version 2
Anyone know what nm low torque mode is? I wonder if ffb would be dampening effect on the csl dd?
Hope those of us with multiple wheels get a nice discount on these new QR units!
Is the flex something I need to worry about ?
can you get bigger shift paddles for it?
wait! you don't have Traction loss system anymore?
So basically a P1 with a Thrustmaster Quick release but without the screw
Hey Barry, does it seem pretty easy to switch out an old/current Fanatec QR and swap this new QR design instead?
will this work in high torque mode with a metal QR1?
Hi Barry, great review! I’m waiting for my Csl dd to arrive and wanted your thoughts on which wheel would suit me best, the WRC one or the GT3? My two main sims I use are mostly Kartkraft and Dirt 2.0. Your thoughts would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave
Hey mate,. I'm waiting fort CSL DD pro and GT3 wheel. What did you get and how is it overall. I've read the GT3 wheel is only good for f1 and GT3 and 4 which makes sense. So I'm looking at this wheel for rally Sims. Let me know what you think. Thanks
@@alexmorgan5760
Hi Alex, I’ve got the Csl dd with boost kit and couldn’t decide on which wheel so I got them both! I use the GT3 wheel the most but both are good. My main sim is Kartkraft, used to race karts a long time ago and this, in my opinion, is the best and close to real life karting sim as you can get. If I’m in dirt rally I find the WRC suits better. Cheers mate, Dave
@@davewatson7650 thanks for the reply mate. Yes I have the boost kit as well. I think I'll get the wrc wheel as well for rally racing too. All I need now is pedals. The v3s stand out for me but I'm never going to need a clutch with flappy pads.
@@alexmorgan5760 I’ve got the V3 pedals, was going for a cheaper version but they discontinued the loadcell kit. The V3 pedals are expensive but they’re very well built and perform really well. I never use the clutch pedal!
Wow, they really cheaped out on the shifter buttons! No microswitch anywhere just ancient plate switches reminding me of joysticks back from Atari days!
They make a wheel specifically for rallying, and don't have the WRC 2-way paddle?
It’s a cheap upsale of P1, for 2-way paddle they would charge something ungodly
Forgive me if this is a dumb question, would you recommend this wheel for road driving also?
Yes. I use the wrc wheel for stuff like Euro truck Simulator or if I just want to mess around in games like Forza Horizon.
I'm disappointed they don't use the weird wrc shifter
How the buttons mapped on the PS4?
My favourite game right now is Dirt Rally 2.0 and I am looking to get a more realistic rally type wheel - right now I am using the only wheel I have, the CS Formula V2, and while it works fine, and I don't notice it in VR, it is probably not ideal. So was looking at either this wheel or the CS BMW GT2 one. Which would you recommend to me? To be honest I would prefer if they made a slightly more expensive Clubsport version of this WRC wheel - I think the CSL looks a bit cheap, boxy, and plastic for my liking. That's why I am still drawn to the BMW wheel. Have Fanatec any plans for a better WRC wheel or is there a better option than these two for Dirt Rally?
I've been using the formula rim in dirt rally too, quite annoying. I ordered the WRC rim, it's lighter and cheaper than the BMW GT2 and you can order the metal QR later on. I don't like using the P1 rim that came with my CSL Elite because of the screw on fastener, it's annoying to switch wheels so I wanted a round rim with a quick release.
這個方向盤可以安裝在Simucube 2 Pro 上面嗎?
A Rallye wheel should have a push pull shifter on the right side, or is it just me?
Absolutely not just you. I've been looking for ages for a push-pull system. Asher Racing used to sell them, but they've discontinued manufacturing them. I've found instructions on how to build one, but more often than not, when I'm messing around with anything electrical, I let the smoke out and ruin whatever I was in the process of creating. 👍🙃
looking to getting one of these, am i going to need a podium to be able to use it on the CSL DD
You should be able to install it directly into CSL DD no problem. He needed the Podium adapter because he was using Podium Servo
How did you get an extra podium shaft.. and would it work on a clubsport base? And can I get one?
Brand new wheel
I'm having problems with this wheel disconnecting mid game, it also seems to be a common problem. I've tried everything, really frustrating.
Were you driving on the dbox motion in this video?
@@simracinggarage3026 thank you kind sir. Looks like it does a great job
How much does such a setup cost with everything except the PC and monitor ?
Two days after seeing this video, I got my new R330 leather-wrapped round rim from Fanatec, which happens to be built and sewn exactly the same way as this rim, and has the same rough spots on the back of the spokes.
I don't know that I would have thought of covering that up with sticky nylon patches if hadn't heard Barry talk about putting tape on his rim. Worked like a charm!
A little disappointed I had to do that with a brand new Fanatec rim, but it works and isn't visible, and was a great idea.
The weak point of this rim is those blister-style switches on the internal motherboard. The downshifter on mine has already lost all it's "pop" after just 9 months of use. The shifter is now just mushy with no nice "click/clunk" feel when you shift. Returning it to Fanatec for repair next week.
I now run a magnetic shifter mod (from Thingiverse) so the lack of snap is no longer a problem.
reading the website, it says for "low torque only." bummer. been looking for a round wheel for dirt rally with the high torque setting.
Is this wheel mainly for rallying or can be used for general purposes like a normal wheel?
Barry i have a question for you: i think we are right in saying that you are retired, so here is my question: what did you do (as a job) before retirement ?
But cant run full tq with this? Im eager to see if they make a clubsport or podium version
@@momorious thanks so not really designed for the podium bases. Do you know how much low tq is anyway? I always select full tq on my dd1
If you’re using a wheel with a console (PS4 for example) is there any reason firmware and software adjustments couldn’t be made via the PS Store?
yes, you cant install third party software on consoles, thats impossible. And it will never be possible. You always will have to run a Windows PC for that.
momorious thanks for the reply. Isn’t the majority of the software bought from the PS Store already Third Party?
If they have licensed partners like Fanatec, where’s the difference between software titles like Call or Duty, or Dirt Rally (both Third Party software) and a wheel update? Like I said, I’m no techy but I’d like to understand the restrictions.
what dimensions is that wheel? 320mm, 330mm?
edit: he says 300mm. thats pretty good for rally i think. my t300 wheel at 280 feels a tad small and 320/330 seems a bit big. i know 350 is that standard for full car drifting etc, but i am going to get an aftermarket 330mm wheel for street cars and drifting, and keep my stock wheel for rally i reckon. 330 is the max id want to go, at least with this wheel base anyway.
it looks bigger than 300 to me though. thats only 1cm more radius or 2cm more diameter than the stock t300 wheel which feels tiny, but that wheel looks reasonably big. looks can be deceiving i guess.
I’m getting dizzy Barry is moving the wheel too much. But he is very thorough.
Damn last week I got the regular p1
Damn. When I saw him hiding the QR on one of the Podium bases in a video a few months ago. I thought for sure Fanatec was gonna release a proper QR system for the DD2 and DD1. It was this.
Maybe an all metal construction version of this would be ok but I think until they get rid of the rubber ring on the Podium. The QR will always be inferior to all other opinions on the market for direct drive bases. Wireless or not.
You shouldn’t have to fight to get the wheel off. Just look at how that Podium shaft made him work to get the new QR off.
this wheel has 300mm?
"it fits the human hand well"
