ASTERIX AND OBELIX: MANSION OF THE GODS is the animation movie by Louis Clichy.

I love how menacing Cesar is despite the fact that his evil plan is offering his enemies free housing.
So he wants to defeat his enemies by using, communism?
Landlords really *are* the most effective villains.
Ah yes the most effective strategy of villainy... Cultural Assimilation. After all if you make your enemies join you with offerings of peace, they're no longer a threat so long as promises are kept. Eventually through time and cultural adaptation.. your enemy will no longer be. They will be you. Now that's not to say you won't have issues.. but those issues will usually fade with time if handled correctly.

That’s the point. Also, he literally could’ve just kept the village there and they would’ve successfully conquered the Gauls. There was not reason to try taking it down, if all the residents had converted into the Romans.
In the original story, Cacophonix's song is pretty much where the story ends. Gotta give them credit for finding a way to extend the story and expand their idea.
plus we never would have gotten the final battle which was so on character with everyone and just seeing the romans bounce around from the beatings

@@user-34678dsslo It's a reference to another Asterix comic where Cacofonix was kidnapped by the Romans and they stuffed their ears with parsley to block the noise of his singing. It turned into a recurring gag in the series.

Brittany is part of todays France region.
Britain is the UK region.
Yeah but to be fair Brittany is ‘the land of the Britons’. Briton, as in the native inhabitants of the isle of Britain. Britons were a Celtic people, basically Welsh, and they eventually colonised Brittany forming a new group called the Bretons. But that was after the Romans, it shouldn’t be called Brittany yet.
Asterix and Obelix focuses on a group of Celtic people native to France, the Gauls, who are different to the Bretons who arrive later, after the Romans, and take over large parts of modern day Brittany.
So in other words they don’t live in Brittany since the name doesn’t exist yet, they live in the Roman province of Armorica or the land of Osismii to the Gauls

@@Elipson52008 Coincidence, "Armorica" comes from Gaulish _Aremorica_ "the land close to the sea". While America is named after the explorer Amerigo Vespucci. Amerigo comes from the Germanic _Haimric_ meaning "king of the house".

One of the most amazing animated movies ever. So hard to bring a cult comic to a movie format. Voices, screenplay, animation - one mistake and the fans would get upset.
Been an Asterix-Obelix fan since past 30 years. Only after I grew up did I understand all the political satire, the small references in a shop or a dress, the naming of characters etc
This one is a far better adaptation than Spielberg's Tintin adaptation.
I love Spielberg's Tintin, but this is also a great adaption.

@@dragonking1097 it worked for the RL Roman Empire, they would often just move into an area and basically just trade, so the locals would see the marble houses, the baths, the fountains and status of the people, the slaves, and then… go home to their animal skin or mud huts and realise “this is shit, I want to live like the Roman’s do.
It's kinda scary cool how *this* is the point were Caesar wins. A movie were Caesar wins and the stakes are totally believable, imagine that

Now Im intrigued
I very much enjoyed the movie, despite the 'departures' from the book. The one thing that I did find surprising was the way that Julius Caesar is portrayed as so malevolent. My reading of the books were that, despite his desire to conquer all Gaul ('All Gaul?!'), he nonetheless approached it with a degree of honour (mostly) and a sense of humour - which I liked! :o)
So, apartment buildings existed all the way back in the years of the Gauls? Who knew.
