Agreed. Most people complain about speedsters being unexploitable in fiction because they're so OP they would cheapen any fight or conflict they would find themselves into, but it's only true for speedsters who have no limit on the speed they can reach. Those same people are the ones who complain about a speedster being hit by a bullet (like Quicksilver in the MCU), or the villain finding a way to stop them, being "dumb ways to nerf the speedster" as if the characters can't be distracted, make a miscalculation, not react quickly enough, or simply being fast, but not THAT fast and having a limit to their power.

Dash's little laugh when he realises he's so fast he can run on water is so pure It's like these kids have been holding back their powers all their life and now can push themselves to the best of their abilities
It's also because of the suits. Take Violet, for example. In normal clothes, only her body disappears. Her supersuit disappears with her when she's wearing it.
This is the first time Dash really gets to let loose with his powers, and I love that the movie shows he doesn't know the full range of his abilities yet either. He's so excited earlier in the movie when his Mom tells him to run as fast as he can if he's in trouble, and when he finally gets that chance, he's too fast for his own good at times, like running into the bugs or tripping, and not knowing he's fast enough to run on water. He's not doing hairpin turns at Mach 5, or knowing exactly how to run on water, even forgetting about it until he drops into the water because he finally slows down. This movie is still probably the best realization of super speed in superhero movie, even 20 years later.
I really enjoy that, despite their powers, neither of them have some bs super strength too. Dash's punches hardly do anything to a full grown man and violet can't incapacitate the guard even when she hits him over the head. They may be superheroes, but they still have the strength of children
That was, in my opinion, what makes this one of the best superhero movies ever made. Not one character ever has the capability to pull a random convenient power out of their ass like you'll see in almost ever Superhero movie; instead they all have a specific set of powers and nothing more, (except maybe for JackJack), and each one has to use them in creative ways to find a solution to the problem they're facing. This movie did such a good job at that; instead of relying on hidden powers or discovering new abilities, they are stuck to what they have to use in whichever way they can think of.

My favorite part of this scene is that it reveals that Dash’s reflexive danger response is actually freeze, not fight or the more expected flight. There are several moments in the chase where you can see he freezes up when he doesn’t know what to do. Right off the bat, Violet needs to goad Dash into running for it. The poor kid has no idea what to do, he’s still processing his automatic response so it takes a second for his brain to kick in. At 2:13, Dash realizes he can punch super fast and goes absolutely ham on the henchman, you can tell he feels like he’s actually in a superhero show and he’s having a blast. Then, at 2:20, he knocks the goon’s visor off, and gets a proper look at his face, and then at the cliff behind the vehicle rapidly approaching. That look of horror is just perfect; the humanization of the soldier suddenly brings him back to Earth, and Dash doesn’t keep up the onslaught, unable to reflexively react. He freezes again! He could have easily kept going, but the visor being knocked off really sent it home that this situation was not a game, and he was actually beating the crap out of a real human being who was about to run into a cliff. That moment of empathy and emotional shock was all it took for the soldier, who has obviously been trained out of any kind of empathetic reaction, to get the upper hand. And of course, when completely out of options in the water tunnel, he reflexively freezes, sinking into the water and barely escaping death. Such an interesting way to show characterization! He could just run around Talladega without a car. Also, Formula 1 and any racetrack with Nascar. He would win first every time. After all, if you anit first, you're last.
That 100% is "Sibling Love" I remember on June 16, 2018 when I watched the incredibles 2 in the movie tharter, at the part where Violet uses Jack-Jack to save dash from screech kidnapping him, I was in love with that part 'cause that was "Sibling Love" as well
So, tip for anyone who’s interested in writing speedsters, these scenes are the peak of realizing the ability on film. Dash isn’t disappearing into a streak of energy, he’s a brightly colored object moving at incredible speeds, and the camera is moving with him so the audience can run with him. He’s not able to react to everything, as the moments where he does get hit or caught off guard do help indicate. And, for those of you who watched The Flash movie, Dash isn’t sliding around unnaturally, he’s BOOKING IT everywhere he goes, superhuman not supernatural. It also helps that there’s a degree of physics applied to everything he does. He gains more speed the longer he runs, he’s able to run on water because he’s moving to too fast to sink, he runs around walls, that sorta thing.
What I always appreciate is that this is the first time he really gets to let loose with his powers, and you can see that. He's making mistakes, tripping, not knowing what he is capable of. It always bugs me in movies/shows with super speed that the character can just stop on a dime or pull off hairpin turns at mach speeds. I know it's part of the suspension of belief, but still. Stopping in an instant at those kinds of speeds should send them flying into walls, not just a quick breath and then they can continue a conversation. It's amazing that this movie is turning 20 this year and still the best realization of super speed in a superhero media. I'd argue the closest to this in realizing it would be My Hero Academia, where their speedster has some pretty sensible limitations to how he uses his powers.
I remember when this came out my dad (I was raised by great uncle) and I loved it. His favorite scene is when dash realizes he can run on water ! I remember him laughing and getting excited like I did and he was a grown man and I’m a child . I never felt closer to him and that sealed our relationship. God rest his soul and I hope to see him again one day . Miss you forever uncle Henry .
it's a shame dash did not have an epic chase scene in the second film it was what I was hoping for when it came out in 2018 so I'm a little down that did not happen but I still loved it 😁👍🏻
Wait. I’m confused about the soldiers. When the soldier that launched Bob in the escape pod into the jungle, you can tell he was a good soldier because he returned his thumbs up. But when Bob gets his new super suit, all the soldiers, turn on him. I just don’t understand that.
i love it how dash as the younger brother manages to take out 6 guards including their vehicles while violet struggles to take out a single guard without his vehicle.
Violet is just getting used to using her powers at full force and her powers are easier to keep secret, while Dash has to take more steps to hide his powers, he was just unleashing all of that built up potential, plus I think violet was just so used to hiding that it was her first thought
At that point Vi only really knew how to use invisibility, and even while invisible, she’s still just a middle school girl fight a grown man with a gun
Dash was the kind of person that was inspired by his powers, proud of them, feeling special, it was easy for him to reach his full potential and act like a superheroe; meanwhile Violet was shy and scared of them, wanting to feel normal, rejecting it; so is reasonable that she wasn't able to defeat one guard, sure she even use his full force
@@vivanloslunes7493 their powers also relate to them as people. Pre-teen boy just wants to go as fast as he can and show off, teenage girl wants to hide from the world and shield herself away, the dad has to be strong and the mum has to be flexible, it's perfect
even though i haven’t fully watched it seeing violets powers to their full potential in incredibles 2 really makes you realize how unsure she was in herself with this movie
These kids had the best teamwork in the whole film, as in Violet always reminded Dash what to do in times of crises and Dash always stood up to his opponents when his sister was close to death
Honestly this shows that Violet and Dash have the kind of sibling relationship where they pick on each other but if someone else picks on then the other will go beat them up.
Yeah, I wish we can see more of that, the part in The Incredibles 2 where screech tried to kidnapped dash and violet stop him by shooting jack-jack laser at him as a small scene I was in love with the moment I saw in the cineplex

Yep, but, that guard on the ground who punched Dash, he was spared, instead of beaten. I mean, no offense, but, like, boy, what were Violet and Dash thinking?
It’s been 20 years since this movie has come out and I have never seen another superhero ever do what this one did. This whole chase through the jungle is still just as impressive as when I saw it as a kid. It’s moments like this that really show what The Incredibles is still one of the greatest superhero movies of all time
Dash reminds me of Ben 10 because of he's cute mischievous personality. Plus he's so freaking adorable. I could just hug him so tight and give him all kinds of love. I love kids.
Violet, you should have taken that second when the soldiers were distracted by you two being supers and ran away. No need to fight the guy, just sneak off. I guess she did not wanna leave the area in which her brother would know she was or something? But still, he is on the other side of the island by now. Save yourself, gurl!!
When morning came, Violet was still fast asleep and didn’t stir when Dash awoke and jumped back, her body heavy with weariness. She lay curled on her side, her head resting on her bent arm. Dash shook her, and she sat up, opening her tired eyes. She narrows her eyes, feeling rightfully distrustful of the bird: “Wait a second.” She turns invisible as she reminds him: “Dash, run. RUN!” Violet silently appears, holding a stick. Dash saves his elder sister, stopping the solider from hurting her, yelling: “Don’t. Touch. My. Sister!” She jumps in front of him to protect him, to return the favor of him saving her life.

0:36 if you notice, the guard on the right turns his head to see Violet run, which makes me think that the third guard that appears behind the first two also sees her more than Dash
Guard: I know you’re there, Little Miss Disappear. (Riley hits him with a stick. The guard falls down but makes Riley fall over. Riley runs away and goes invisible, she goes into a small pond as the guard tries to shoot her.) Guard: You can’t hide from me. (The guard throws a bit of sand into the water. The sand trails in a certain shape.) Guard: There you are. (Lee comes running.) Ler: Hey!!! (Riley gets out) Lee: Don’t! Touch! My! SISTER!!!!!
I wish that after violet and dash saved each other, that dash would have said “thank you for saving me violet” and violet reply with saying “You’re welcome You deserved to be save back, after saving me” then they have a hug and both cry a little bit and said “I love you” 🥹 with the “Saving Metroville” Song in the background at the 42 second mark, just like what Helen and bob did just before the Omnidroid

Dash jump at the chance to protect his sister, and Violet was willing to give her life to protect him. If that is not sibling love, idk what is.
“how are you doing that?!”
“I DONT KNOW”
“whatever you’re doing, don’t stop!!”
I kinda wish they had a hug or something after saving each other
2:57 That part is great like everything calms down for a moment
"Think they're supers?"
"Nah they obviously like dressing in tight red lycra and a mask."
"Oh okay."
LMAO!
**girl turns invisible in plain sight**
"..."
**Dash runs off**
"They're supers!"
As someone with an older sister, this is accurate 😂😂😂😂😅😅😅 My sis is 40 and has a husband and kids -- still -- don’t touch my sister.
lol
Wtf
@@shirsendumaiti5682be quiet
@@shirsendumaiti5682you must not have female siblings lol
@@Malik_Maverick I do that is why. Nothing weird in touching your sister.
1:17 Now he knows what a windshield feels like
Thats's gotta be top 3 of hardest pixar scenes of all time. Dash's giggle at 3:06 when he realizes how ridiculous his power is, it's everything.
rewatched the incredibles for the 100th time and changed my mind. it's top 1
it's a shame dash did not have an epic chase scene in the second film it was what I was hoping for when it came out in 2018 so I'm a little down that did not happen but I still loved it 😁👍🏻
Yeah same, apart from when screech grab dash, it's a little bit like when dash fall on the "flying knife vehicle" and it flew away
I like how he disgusted how he’s on his sister when he was sleep 😂😭
2:27 Me Getting Into A Car Accident
More like everyone
Lol!
that was so stupid and sudden I just bawled my eyes out 😂😂🤙
“I’m alive” “uh oh” 😭😭😭😂😂
Syndromes guards are evil and all, but boy, they have badass equipment
Dam right
Wait. I’m confused about the soldiers. When the soldier that launched Bob in the escape pod into the jungle, you can tell he was a good soldier because he returned his thumbs up. But when Bob gets his new super suit, all the soldiers, turn on him. I just don’t understand that.
@@devencadriel5459 It was all part of syndrome's charade.
If you like I can explain more.
Not to mention it seems like modern day tech but the movie takes place in 1962 which is impressive
@@soviettoaster_9323 Yeah, suprising how they did it
i love it how dash as the younger brother manages to take out 6 guards including their vehicles while violet struggles to take out a single guard without his vehicle.
For real
True
i love the way dash realizing he can run on water literally gives him a second wind. there’s so much glee in that second and he speeds up even more
These kids had the best teamwork in the whole film, as in Violet always reminded Dash what to do in times of crises and Dash always stood up to his opponents when his sister was close to death
2:26 omg the guards face makes me laugh every time 😂
I once paused at that part on TV and My father came down at the funny time and started laughing 😂
3:07 at 30 years old this scene gives me the chills it did the first time i saw it as a child. Discovering what you are and what you are capable of gives you that feeling
Guard: (punches Dash in the face)
Me: (in his face) "I WILL BREAK YOU UNTIL THERE IS NOTHING LEFT OF YOU."
The cliff behind the guard: Allow me.
Yeah. Now, that guard, (heh-heh) got what he deserved.
Cliff saved the day
Yep, but, that guard on the ground who punched Dash, he was spared, instead of beaten. I mean, no offense, but, like, boy, what were Violet and Dash thinking?
The m3 grease gun with an ocular scope, modified stainless steel built in suppressed barrel and extended magazine in his hand: 💥💥💥

2:27 His face! 😂😂😂
0:33 the ost here is so good omg

It’s been 20 years since this movie has come out and I have never seen another superhero ever do what this one did. This whole chase through the jungle is still just as impressive as when I saw it as a kid. It’s moments like this that really show what The Incredibles is still one of the greatest superhero movies of all time
Exactly
4:29 JUST WANNA POINT OUT -- Violet was ready to die not even knowing about that power
That's sibling love there
The soldier at the end is one of the most competent henchmen in superhero movies. Using the dirt to find Violet and countering Dash.... impressive
This is wholesome. There should be some Disney shorts of just Violet and Dash doing rescues together after school or whatever
YES!
2:37 Dash: I’m alive. 2:38 (whooping)
Me: Oh yeah, you’re alive, boy!
"And when Dash realizes the extent of his power?"
"He'll run on water and go hehehe."
"What, nothing else?!"
"No time. He's in a hurry."
"Voice key incorrect" said the bird 🐦
2:25 That part always got me because ironically the soldier received Karma and also ironically he “saves” Dash 😂
Yeah
Dash reminds me of Ben 10 because of he's cute mischievous personality.
Plus he's so freaking adorable. I could just hug him so tight and give him all kinds of love. I love kids.
Yeah same :)
holy fuck my appreciation for this movie has skyrocket since seeing it for the first time over a decade ago
2:12 Okay, THAT animation is really smooth even in 2004!
If there will be a third incredibles movie, violet and dash should end their sibling rivalry and have a better sibling relationship
HELL YES! but it's ok, because they do save each other from danger, and plus there fanfics about violet and dash bonding
This is the first Disney Pixar movie to be rated PG!
Lots of guns and industrial violence indeed.
That's what I like about this movie
Violet, you should have taken that second when the soldiers were distracted by you two being supers and ran away. No need to fight the guy, just sneak off.
I guess she did not wanna leave the area in which her brother would know she was or something? But still, he is on the other side of the island by now. Save yourself, gurl!!
Exactly what I thought baby!
2:23 *never gets old*
1:00 Violet: Dash, run!
Dash: What?
Violet: Run!
What the-? They're supers! Get the boy!
Can't lie one of my top 5 movies of all time the music just amazing for each scene
2:11 My favorite part of this scene
If i had Violet:s powers i also take acrobatic and karate lessons
I love when the siblings save each other :)
@@funvideofan1625 Though they don’t always get along, they’re brother and sister, and always care about and look out for each other. Violet knows it’s her responsibility, as the older sister, to protect Dash.
@@olivijastrandjord Even though they don’t said anything about it, like they don’t said stuff like “Thank you for saving me” or “I love you” or “Thanks from saving me from getting shot” you can still tell by there body language that they care for one another

The score is just so phenomenal
Dash's first punch was the funniest!! 😂🤣
2:11
"Don't touch my sister!"
I love speedster characters. Its been years since i watched The Incredibles i need to rewatch it. Also those goons were ruthless like their mom said they'd be. They were smart as well. Also i like how Dash clearly had the speed and some good moves but his punches are weak because hes a kid.
0:29 - 0:45
I just felt excited to listen to this part of the music as the guards look at the bird's point of view of the kids running, the guards run out with "Intruder Alert!" and then they fly out on their flying devices!
0:36 if you notice, the guard on the right turns his head to see Violet run, which makes me think that the third guard that appears behind the first two also sees her more than Dash

i don't know why it's so funny to me how they killed so many random troopers here on accident
Dash got 6 while Violet got 2
Dash running on the water will always be favorite scene in the entire movie. I remember watching it as a kid just in awe like "Woah! 😨" 😂😂💯
The government lied to us! Birds are drones! 😂
they always do
Guard: I know you’re there, Little Miss Disappear.
(Riley hits him with a stick. The guard falls down but makes Riley fall over. Riley runs away and goes invisible, she goes into a small pond as the guard tries to shoot her.)
Guard: You can’t hide from me.
(The guard throws a bit of sand into the water. The sand trails in a certain shape.)
Guard: There you are.
(Lee comes running.)
Ler: Hey!!!
(Riley gets out)
Lee: Don’t! Touch! My! SISTER!!!!!
Love that laugh when he realises he's fast enough to run on water, he's like "I am running on water, yep, it's official, I am awesome"
Than again he did run on something like 14 mins prior to that scene
Fun fact at 3:54 Joe Ranft voiced that guard
Joe Ranft voiced a favorite-hating guard? (Talking about Dash, by the way) How dare he.
the music is so iconic 😩

the best parts was when he punches the guy and when he snaps the tree in half
Dash realizing he can run on water will forever be the best thing bout this movie IMO
Great Job!
The music and the camera movement at 3:10 is forever embedded in my brain
Those machines the guards use are genious too
I always laugh at the punching scene. Like he realizes he’s a top tier boxer and screw that guard. It’s like Captain America-> I can do this all day.

4:09 I always thought that he is throwing some kind of smoke bomb in the water 🤣
1:33 I can’t be the only one who thinks those thing kind of sound like pod racers.
Maybe
I wish that after violet and dash saved each other, that dash would have said “thank you for saving me violet” and violet reply with saying “You’re welcome You deserved to be save back, after saving me” then they have a hug and both cry a little bit and said “I love you” 🥹 with the “Saving Metroville” Song in the background at the 42 second mark, just like what Helen and bob did just before the Omnidroid
