The flue absolutely needs to stay open. Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colorless gas that can lead to illness and even death. It is a byproduct of burning natural gas, propane, kerosene, and wood. Please be safe.
This is a clean install! Thanks for posting this. But what do you do if the shutoff valve has to be sleeved through cinderblock wall? I know I've got my work cut out for me and put my thinking hat on, sheesh
I have this kind of gas log in our house, it does nothing, not hot at all. Can you please teach me how to improve? If i installed a chimney damper would that help?
I noticed you didn't have to add a vent stack. Are those ventless gas logs?? I have and use a wood burning fireplace. I want to convert to gas. What kind of logs is safe??
I believe they are imitation logs made using ceramic material. They retain heat and to radiant heat transfer efficiency of the install and ofcourse add to esthetics. You still have to have the chimney or some sort of arrangement to get exhaust the gas combustion product like CO and CO2.
That looks so ugly with you nailing blocks of wood to your stucco home. There's got to be a better way to install that pipe. It just looks horrible . Like a non professional installed it. Don't like it at all.
What a clean finish …. YIKES!
What about venting? Did you do anything to modify it?
King of the hill
Do you still need to keep the flue open when in use? Also does the pilot light need to stay on like a water heater

Yes has to be open
Not the cleanest job outside but looks good inside.
Outside is absolute garbage!

You did a good job on everything except the wood you used to strap the pipe - I would have used unistrut
Wow. You should have used galvanized steel pipe for outdoors. When those crappy small pieces of wood rot away how will the pipe stay secured.
Can you add a remote control to start and stop the fire on this install?
Did you do anything special to the chimney, existing fire box or the damper?
I’m interested in this question also.
Any back draft from the flue?
What about flu, a fan to direct heat out and a thermostat to turn fire off and on automatically?
why does he sound like hank from king of the hill? lol Dammit Bobby!!!
Thank you for a great video I'm planning to do this at my daughter's house
Can a blower be added to that gas fireplace? Seems like a waste of money to have Gad being made to make fire but not get the benefits of the heat
It will generate lot of radiant heat. Fan will cause CO2 and CO blown in the living area instead of going out of chimney.
Yes use a gas insert with fresh air vent specially made with blower already in it.
That's very beautiful, great job Mr

Can you still burn regular wood if you take out the fake wood ?
Only if the gas line is removed completely from fire place.
Way cool. Thank you. I need to replace the aluminum gas line. This actually helped.
Oh my gosh this helped me so much, 😊
Awesome:) glad the video could help:) Have a great evening:)

Converting an existing wood burning stove so it's assumed that it has a chimney with a damper to control the exhaust.
Existing chimney can use any gas log. If you don’t have an open chimney then use direct vent.
Thanks. Nice video.
Honeycomb? What is that and when/how was that inserted???
You did not used a gas regulator?
Hello Chris
Hello Jeanetta:) How was your 4th of July?
