This guy isn't just a singer, he's a preacher. If you would, show me just one contemporary song, song writer or singer with anywhere near the soul Bobby brings to the table . Take your time...I won't be holding my breath.
Bobby Womack's most famous song has to be "Across 110th Street" which was used in a number of movies such as "Jackie Brown," "Across 110th Street" and "American Gangster" starring Denzel Washington. Here are a few more great soulful songs that you may not have heard of before: 1) The Chi-Lites - Oh Girl '72 2) Marvin Gaye - I Want You '76 3) Sonny Charles and The Checkmates Ltd. - Black Pearl '69. Enjoy!
When Jodeci first came out I mentioned to my brother and a co-worker how much he sounded like Bobby Womack, and they laughed at me. But they were the first to pile on the compliments when they heard K-Ci's version of this song.
"I Wish He Didn't Trust Me So Much " is another good one by him. I think you would also like Johnnie Taylor, another singer of the same genre and time period. " These Last Two Dollars ", "Running Out of Lies " and "Getting Careless With Our Love "are some to check out by him.
Great one ❤ by the time Bobby Womack came on the HiFi, we knew it was “Grown folks time” and we kids had to be in bed. Shout out to all my Southern Baptist’s fam ❤

That line, "if you think you're lonely now, wait until tonight," is one of the coldest lines ever! I even had to use it in a bad situation. Thanks, Bobby.
Is one of the very few artists who make me tear up just from the arrangement, instrumentation, let alone his gospel and soulful vocals. Immense and you have so much more to discover!
This is the man that married Sam Cookes widow. He had a lot of hits back in the 1970s. This song was redone by Jodeci. Check out “A Woman Gotta Have it”.
Jay, (maybe Amber too), if you've ever listened to Mariah Carey's "We Belong Together," she references this song in the lyrics. "If You Think You're Lonely Now" was released in 1981 from Bobby's album The Poet. The single reached #3 for four weeks on the Hot Soul Singles chart. The song's success was significant because he had released it during a time when the charts were largely dominated by dance music. Great reaction to a classic!!!
Bobby Womack’s on the radio, singing to me, if you think you’re lonely now, wait until tonight. Another good reference in that song is Two Occasions by The Deele.
This the kind of music I listened to every Saturday morning as we cleaned the house. I know the word to many of these old songs. My mom had the music blasting all day until we were finished.
This is a perfect introduction to Bobby Womack. He has other songs along these same lines, but this is his "signature" song. This was on the radio and record players constantly back in the day. Great job, guys.

Now this is the CUT, fo eva Bobby...."and the skeletons come out of the closet, and chase you ALL around the room, and the memories sail round like a ghost"
A true soul singer, great choice. Womack has many terrific songs to review: Across 110th Street, That's the Way I Feel 'Bout Cha, Harry Hippie, A Woman's Gotta Have It, Nobody Wants You When You're Down and Out, Daylight, Don't Wanna Be Hurt By Your Love Again -- all great songs. He was also part of the Valentine Brothers, who did the original version of 'I Can Understand It,' also a great tune.
The Womack brothers grew up in church, and when they started singing, they were singing gospel music, so Amber is on the money when she says Bobby's sound has a gospel feel to it!
A soul legend! Among other achievements, he was touring with Sam Cooke when he was *10* (along with his brothers) and he wrote The Rolling Stones's first-ever UK #1 "It's All Over Now" before he turned 20. "Across 110th Street" is calling out to me. (And I bet I'm not the only one.)

Bobby Womack was Sam Cook's bestfriend. He married Cook's widow after Cook died and that didn't set well with his family, Cook's family or the music world. Folks loved Sam Cook and it took Bobby Womack a long time to come back after that. He's originally from my hometown Cleveland!
The story behind the song is that a producer he was working with was one the phone with his lady. The phone conversation was very heated. Before the man hung up, he told her this, "If you think you're lonely now, wait until tonight!!!!" Bobby Womack got himself a song!!!!
You haven't done him, you did his brother and sister-in-law!! Womack & Womack!! He came first, and is a Great!! He was also known as "The Preacher"!! Before he went to board, he heard the dude say to his girl while angry “If you think you’re lonely now, wait until tonight”! Bobby boarded his plane and wrote the song that was one His biggest hits. He wrote the lyrics on the damn plane! He was and is, The Poet!

Bobby womack…so underrated! Great stuff! A Sam Cook protégé…you can sometimes here some sam in his delivery. A lot of people didn’t approve when he married Sam’s widow. Bobby also played the Wah guitar parts on Sly and the Family Stone’s ‘family affair’. Also…theres a video on youtube of the recording of Todd Rundgren’s ‘the want of a nail’ with bobby on it. Cool stuff. You should check those out
One of my mom's favorites ... she would tell the story of how she and her cousin would sit around listening to this song while sharing beers and just "Ohhhh" and rock to the music, thinking Bobby Womack was saying, "Wait until tonight, you won't be lonely when I come home to you." It took a male friend to tell them, "Listen to those lyrics" before they understood he was actually saying something very different! She still loved the song, though!
If you ever get in the mood for a excellent cover of this song, you don’t have to look any further than the cover done by K-Ci Hailey of Jodeci. The cover of this song done by K-Ci can also be found on the motion picture soundtrack of the movie Jason’s Lyric.

Harry Hippie❤
A Timeless classic still as relevant as it was when it was written if not even more so. Amazing song from and amazing voice. He put it ALL in it.
Bobby Womack was a blues Man. That means he could play the hell out of a guitar.
