Well, she was the brave defender of the status quo, so she couldn't be evil! Even if that meant kids could be kidnapped and imprisoned and forced to work for their captors(You can learn to love it! It's your duty!). Also ignore that "might get genocide-ed" clause in your "residence" contract at the tower. At least she won't betray you :D
I miss her too, i always headcannoned that my warden after joining the grey wardens was sad about his mother passing (royal human) and wynne filed her spot and took care of him.
When i discovered that she passed away i was heartbroken

Imagine a plot twist where it's not a mage this time. We had all mage betrayals in the past three games.

In Dragon Age, necromancy is not considered as an evil thing. In Nevarra they have Mortalitasi. Blood mages are considered evil.

I’ve been saying for a while now that I think Neve is the betrayer. I totally agree with the reasons in this video but I think she’s a double agent working for the Venatori. The tarot cards of Dragon Age are very telling and if you look at the Veilguard tarot cards Neve is the only companion not showing their face and thus, hiding her real identity.
It's crazy as hell cuz I never thought about it. Anders, Warden Clarel, Jowan (DAO), Morrigan, Solas, etc. It's always them. The mages. They keep proving the templars right. I can't keep defending them at this point lol.🤣
Don't forget Merrill. She used Hawk to restore her blighted Eluvian and then her entire clan came to kill her, and you had to kill them if you wanted to save her. She also thought careful use of blood magic was perfectly ok. She was sweet and cute, and slightly insecure. A lot like Bellara.
Meh, depends on how you handle your choices with her. You can avoid killing her entire clan, I can't remember how though, it's been a while since I played DA2. Also unlike Anders, Morrigan or Solas, Merrill is straight with you from the beginning about her intentions and what she's doing.

Honestly I hope they break the trend of a mage betraying us and that we don't have anyone betray us. It's happened so often that it would honestly be more of a twist if everyone here was on your side for once. And it's not like it's happened in every entry in the series, Awakening had no one betray you in the end and that worked out fine.
Also I just want to romance one of my future wives and just plan out our wedding without worrying about her turning on me, those wedding dresses are expensive.
I am actually betting the betrayal will not have anything to do with Solas directly. It will come out of left field.

What if there's no betrayer at all? First time was intriguing, second time was shocking, third time was starting to become tiresome... A fourth betrayal, does it really have to happen? AGAIN?!
The good thing would be everyone expecting to be stabbed in the back and that simply not happenning at all.
Btw, what if it's Harding or Taash? Who's to say Taash isn't the youngest Ben-Hassrath in recorded history or that Harding isn't a double agent of The Executors? Maybe Harding will fully connect with the Titans, they will wake up and be royally pissed for what happened to them in the past.
Perhaps it's Lucanis, he's possessed and we have no idea of what the spite demon's motives truly are. Plus his tarot card has a lot of eyes, which is also a theme for the Dread Wolf (and pride demons). Maybe it's Davrin, he's a warden and therefore connected to the Blight, what's stopping Ghilan'nain or Elgar'nan from taking over him to have someone infiltrated in your party?
I’m guessing Emmerich due to the “gentleman” part of his character. I love the gentleman thief archetype. No ill intentions, of course, just either self interest or greater good, but once there a gentleman does not go back on their word.
I'm just going to say that we are due for a KOTOR/ Jade Empire "Surprise! We were the bad guy all along" twist. And it's never happened in this title. It's been said that followers can leave based upon your decisions. What if at the end of the day we are the big bad guy?
My money's on the elf mage, the veil jumpers is a new organization faction of the world. That seems to be testing unknown and New Magic. Have yet to meet an elf Mage that I didn't want to slap.
I’m glad I’m not the only one suspecting Bellara! She SEEMS the most wholesome. Which is why she isn’t a match for Solas. But I think the twist is that she is NOT aligned with Solas. But still the betrayer.

Bioware is a lot of things, but I wouldn't say they're subtle, I think that how you get "betrayed" has been more surprising than the who. No one would trust Morrigan, and both Anders and Solas were broadcasting suss from the moment you rocked up to them. Whoever it is, they're going to "tell us" within five minutes of meeting them, maybe ten. Also it's Bellara. :)
When in doubt trust the active Grey Warden.

Pretty the bow she uses is a magical artifact connected to that magical gauntlet of hers. So she fires spells instead of arrows, nothing wrong with that and to be quite honest, I think a magical bow looks a lot cooler than a stick with a glowing stone on it's tip 😂
I was going to disagree about how it's always unexpected and say, "What about Anders? His actions aren't a surprise at all. The potion he asks for our help with is literally just the recipe for gunpowder," but then you said it's always a bomb dropped on the player, and I can't argue that - even if the bomb is mostly dropped on the chantry.
It sure as hell won't be Emmerich. That would be way too stereotypical.
Maybe Bioware would decide to break the streak of "treacherous Mage companions" in this game and either have a non-Mage companion betray Rook or no traitors at all. But even if there will be a traitor in the middle or end of game it is not likely to be Emmrich (who simply does not have much motive for that) and even Neve (if she were the spy - why did she not contact and warn Solas about Varric & Rook coming to disrupt his ritual where releasing 2 of his Evanuris archenemies was at stake there?). The most suspicious companions for me are Davrin / Bellara (who seem quite fond of ancient elven history, especially Bellara and might side with Solas simply to restore glory days of elves), Lucanis (whose betrayal might be even unwillingly if his demon overtakes his body) and Taash (as simple and joyful she seems she could be another hidden agent of Qunari, just like Iron Bull was in Inquisition). But we will see, since Bioware might want to surprise everyone and either have no treacherous companions this time or pull off a surprising plot twist (like betrayal of Harding and her becoming a herald of Titans awakening in Dragon Age 5 etc).
I'm also warry of Lucanis. He's giving that he would swoop to his own agenda as a crow..... And SWOOPING IS BBBBAAAADDDDDDD!
Bellara will not be a betrayer. If she is i'm ready to bet she doesn't even know she is manipulated she sound like a nerdy, impressionable, young women.
Neve, possible, yes the fall of the veil means everyone is a mage so...Magisterium issue is solve.

Taash she is a sellsword, a potential benhasrat and an adventurer, honestly if Iron Bull didn't tell he was a spy no one would have guess, Taash is in the same bag.
Davrin... is a member of a Dying order the moment the 2 remaining gods are down. Solas hate them but as morrigan child proove it they can have their use.
Harding would just make no sense, i don't think Solas would trust her.
Lucanis... oh the man is the host of some magical being like a jekil and hide, maybe only a half of him is trust worthy.

I think the focus on the betrayal having to do with Solas is an error here. I think a companion will betrayal us in some way (at least I hope so), but it won't be related to Solas. Might have to do with the Titans, etc. Having it not be related to Solas makes everyone a potential risk. That all being said, I kinda want it to be Neve so it can be the first mage I meet trend.
When i saw this on my frontpage, i thought it was a parody song of "don't trust me", like the old wow parody "don't trust a rogue"
My hope is they do a culmination betrayal. 3 major choices throughout the story each with 2 possibilities making a total of 8 combinations 1 that can lead to each companions betrayal and 1 where none of them betray you.
if I have a nickel everytime an apostate mage companion betrays my character I would have three nickels which isn't a lot but it's wierd that it happened thrice
i will always trust DA mages and their unavoidable betrayal and then act as if i didnt know it would happen
(SPOILERS for other Dragon Age games except DAV)
There's a joke amongst friends that I'm clairvoyant because I can guess plotlines (actually I have seen a bajillion movies and TV shows with repeating storylines). While playing the Dragon Age series, I've made choices that seemingly distanced myself from the 3 main betrayers of each game all due to gut feeling alone. I adored Morrigan, but always kept an eye on her, never fully trusting the Witch of the Wilds (still doing the baby ritual because I didn't want to die). I pushed away Anders in DA2 despite liking him in Awakening because I got this reckless revolutionary vibe off him, you know the type, because he felt very unstable and kept antagonising Fenris, who I romanced. We all know how that game ended (I still think Anders was a VERY well-written character). As for Solas, I digged the lore he gave and his view on the fade, his banter with other companions, but he kept being racist and so unforgiving towards my Lavellan's choices that I benched him for good after 40% of the game.
I agree, my gut says it's Neve. Ever since the release date trailer for DAV, my gut says not to trust her (she's still in my top 3 choices for my first romance tho). She feels so integral to the story right from the start, and it felt to me like the perfect she-was-the-enemy-all-along-just-like-solas kind of deal which could impact our Rook greatly if introduced to her right as our game begins...Or maybe I'm just delusional and Bioware pulled an 'Isabella' showing a crumb of the possible relationship between N and R, just like they did with Hawke in DA2's trailer. Either way, we shall wait and see.
P.S.
Honourable mentions - Scout Harding. With the things teased in the trailers so far regarding her personal story, she may be linked to a new threat altogether, making her an enemy without her realising it. If Bioware wanted to break the mage-traitor streak this could be the ticket to do it as she, you know, is not catagorized as a mage!
I just know- I JUST KNOW that one of these 3 is gonna do something or reveal something that blows players out of the water at the end of the game. My money's on Bellara.

Of all my companions Anders is my least favorite.
Emmrich-a kind, level-headed necromancer. 😂He very kindly resurrects the dead and makes them suffer. He should have been a cruel, selfish necromancer, and an alliance with him should have been born out of necessity. He looks like a direct import from a Sims 4 character. Bellara looks like a middle-aged woman in the body of a teen girl. Neve seems like a toxic woman always ready to get offended. I've never seen Lucanis for more than a third of a second in any trailer; it's always the female characters in the main focus. Who else? Can't remember-they're so forgettable. Well, good luck to anyone who wants to play this game.
This is my first of your video's and I dig your humor and thoughtfulness.
That said, Neve is bae and would never betray me. That is all.
