I'm watching this in 2035 and we're already using USB Z.

*because of convince*
USB Z peasant, in 2030 we use wireless to transfer data to our brain
Irun Mon hahaha. Bunch of peasants!
iPhone USB-C? Probably not. Apple can't make money from that haha
that's just BRUUUTAL
Z-MINER That's why they ditch the headphone jack too?
Z-MINER yeah true they will not get nearly as much I come as they do
It would be cool is Apple would "inovate" and put 1 lightning and 1 usb-c port

Android Flagships: Yes
Android Low-Midrange: Some
Apple: iPad Pro only, mostly lightning.
How 'bout that all-wireless future, tho? I'm for it.
weird how Apple was encouraging this trend with the mac book but they wont convert the iPhone
Yes it is, my Galaxy S8 and Dell Inspiron 7000 both charge with USB C 🤷♂️ it all depends on how new your tech is
Usb c would be much more popular if Apple made the iPhone 7 with a USB c port instead of lightning
Isaac Pittman Yea they fucked up on that
Isaac Pittman nah they did that on purpose they control the lighting port market so if you want a certified lighting port you gotta shell up more because the manufacturer needs apple permissions to use their perperitary cable you could use a bootlegged one but how safe are they ??
Issun I think Samsung is bigger than Apple
If you're looking at profits and the stock value, Apple is bigger. But if you look at what the companies actually do, Samsung is a god where Apple is a peasant. Watch ColdFusion's video about Samsung
good luck , do you think apple will kill one of their income source ?
Hope android and iOS users can borrow each other's charger in the future
Kokkheang Seak hope androids can use ios in the future and vice versa
senpai pls Then they aren't really either, are they. The whole point is them having different OS, which suits different tastes
wont happen , apple's greed for more money wont allow them
Kokkheang Seak yeah
Kokkheang Seak would definitely be really nice... IMO Apple should never have created Lightning. They should have waited until USB-C was ready to be implemented in smartphones and went straight from 30-pin to USB-C.

But Marques' video quality is better
Michael Peterson I don't think ckickbait can gain you subs, it can only gain views. But yeah MKBHDs quality is better than Lew
Just compare likes vs dislikes ratio of both channels. :)
That's mainly due to the fake giveaways Lew did with the 'truck load of iphones' and then gave away like 9.
That's just because Lew does a lot of 'clickbaity' products and videos. While this channel has a very obvious directive. Lew's video would be like "charge a phone using your tears with this crazy device" - and MKBHD would be "iPhone 7 review - Is it worth your money".
I love them both, but they don't exactly do the same thing, so there are reasons why Lew's growth is insane :p

Samsung will, they did it with the Note 7

Micro USB is garbage. Why make the connectors so small and fragile? USB-C and Lightning has 2 data lines, Micro-USB has 1, which is why there are so many devices that can work with Apple.
Michael Thompson, there's a reason why it was a standard for so many years. It was the best thing that could be packed in a small phone at the time. USB-C only became a thing when Apple removed all the ports of the new Macbook in favor of USB-C.
Liam Cirge Mini USB was way stronger, they phones aren't that small, people are just stupid. If you want to know how to make the best phones, ask the people what they want.

Ooooooh 48 TB? I think I'm gonna touch myself...
Kudos Marques for being big tech evangelist. Currently got one USB-C port on my Dell XPS 15, connected to Dell's WD15 USB-C dock (thats the USB-C model not thunderbolt 3 model) . 3x1080p monitor, mech keyboard, mouse, ext. drive, headset, plus charging all thru one port.
One critique, you should point out USB-C is the interface, not the underlying tech. My Dell USB-C port is a thunderbolt 3 tech(10Gbps) whereas USB-C port on my One+ 3T, is usb2 speeds. NOT ALL THE SAME. (ie. Is your raid device Thunderbolt3 on USB-C, otherwise it will be rather slow)
Marques, please push decision makers to do USB-C right (by the spec, heck make it all Thunderbolt3)
Otherwise we're left with same looking cables but not knowing what's "inside".
Oneplus 3, with "USB 2.0, Type-C", is the perfect example of not knowing what's inside (future looking connector, 3 generation old tech inside)
Marques has really grown on me. Subbed out of curiosity, now I look forward to your every upload. Great channel.

I love the idea of USB-C, but I have the feeling that as soon as everyone adopts it, they will introduce USB type D lol
Daniel Sadjadian no ... Why would they do that ? Type C is going to be standard for at LEAST 15 years ..m keep in mind that micro USB was introduced in 2004 and now it's 2017 ... The only problem with micro USB is those weakn metal pins that make any cable last around 1-2 years untill they don't connect thoroughly ..m they still work and charge ... but the CLICK is like GONE ... Also it's not reversible ... Other than that I don't see why they would change it ...
AHH yes but there's connection speed ... That has to be upgraded every 5 or so years ... So they will still make USB 4 BUT that's just the CABLE, and the device to device protocols the PORT ITSELF would not change ... So as long as everything has a TYPE-C port it's gonna be OK it's just that future devices would have USB 4 so you would need a USB 4 cable to take advantage of the extra speed ... Now that means you would upgrade your cables that you use most often to USB 4 (optional ... Only if you want faster speed) but those cables WILL still be compatible with old devices so manufacturers would not need to change ports on products ...
AND USB 3 cables will STILL be compatible with USB 4 and 5 (note these don't exist yet) devices but have just normal USB 3 speed .
Mihai Lazar because money
the only thing they could improve upon for any difference in USB type D would be the transfer speed, and at the current transfer speed of USB type C i don't see that being needed anytime soon.
That's gonna be a D move.
Riju, I appreciate your comment.

Great Video about USB C . Informative Video as always :)
My question is, why not add two USB-C ports on phones instead of using one and removing the headphone jack
Joseph Shortino Well what if we changed the scenario from USB-C to lightning ports on the iPhone. Why can't there be two on that? Also they can just announce that it doesn't charge twice as fast and consumers unaware will simply have a rude awakening. Lastly, if more phones use USB-C more consumers will become aware of the fact that they'll need them. It will eventually catch on
"what if we changed the scenario from USB-C to lightning ports on the iPhone"???
That would be a step backwards. Lightning was developed by Apple for Apple products and did not work universally with other devices. Remember, Apple has bad record of forcing new hardware that only works with Apple. Remember their chargers which didn't even work from one version of same device to next?
USB-c is universal for all devices from all manufactures using same standard. It was primarily developed by Intel and others to be a new universal standard. My Axon 7 Mini phone running android has USB-c. Apple was smart to make the switch also, along with industry.
But who wants to replace all of their headphones and home audio or deal constantly with adapters? Not me. Let early adopters deal with that mess.
James Galen Bloyd I wasn't implying that lightning ports on all devices would be good. I'm just saying if you're gonna take the headphone jack away you might as well have two ports
Enoch Hart USB-C ports can actually do multiple tasks and be connected to multiple devices at once. This means a single port can power your phone while also being used as headphone jack and other things simultaneously. Whether or not this is an actual feature of new Apple products depends on Apple basically enabling it with software. So, basically, you should be able to use a port dongle that splits the cable to multiple devices or just connect one cable to a hub that then connects to everything else for you. Apple would enable this before adding a new hardware port taking up space.
James Galen Bloyd Apple will probably never use a universal cable, but why use dongles when all the ports you need could be built in. These companies are so worried about their camera and how fast their phone is that they started to compromise basic essentials like Jack's and expandable memory
I'm ok with the move to type C over all ... But still upset about the death of the headphone jack.
I already use Bluetooth headphones and a Bluetooth speaker at home... But what about at work, in a friends house, or car?

I still find it fascinating how we're having to add things to these very expensive laptops just to make them as functional as last years models. I'm a mac user, love my pro for my photo editing but I really can't see a future with them until the entire market has shifted. Luckily I've got a pretty good specced pro so I can always build a nice PC and use this as my strictly on the go machine.
TheKiwiJobes if you get some good cables along with it then it makes it much better. For example, instead of getting a USBC to HDMI dongle then hooking your HDMI that way, just get a USBC to HDMI cord. That way it has more function and form than a normal HDMI or using a dongle.
It is the connection of the future and we just have to wait for everybody to catch up to reap the benefits fully.
My only advice is: It happens, Remember when Apple took away the CD Drive on the orginal macbook air? People were upset about it, But now, You almost can't find an ultrabook with a CD/DVD Rom. Pretty soon, it'll all be USB C, One port for everything. You have to embrace this. When new technology comes out and people refuse to switch/Don't like it, that's what seperates the tech illiterate, and tech guru's. You see many old people who just don't understand smartphones, Which is a perfect example of not embracing the new tech.
Yeah, I remember.
I remember when they also kept the CD drive on the *more expensive* MacBook Pro because back then the people in control of Apple understood that no one wants to spend thousands of dollars on a new laptop that offers *less* than the older laptops. I remember when they did things _gradually_ . When they *didn't* commit their more expensive machine to USB-A ports without a CD drive _until_ it was already supported by the appropriate accessories. They used the MacBook Air (the cheaper alternative) as a go between.
I remember when Apple was headed by a guy who said, “Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it's really how it works.”
These newer, thinner MacBook Pros may look great, but they work horribly. They overheat, they throttle themselves, their batteries die early (because of the always on touchbar), and they require extra pieces of hardware (dongles) to do basic things.
Steve Jobs must be rolling in his grave right now.
PickleSauce ...Or it's an example of people's aging brains not being able to learn new information as quickly and easily... Or maybe they have no use for the new technology.

I bought an Asus motherboard (Z170-PRO) last year with a USB-C port to be ready for the future... I guess it's paying off.
I imagine a day where all smartphones will only have one port, a USB type C, D, E or whatever... and that's all that will be needed for anything. Charging can be done through that, headphones can be plugged through that, moving some files from your phone onto a USB stick or an external hard drive can be done through that, data transfer to laptops can be done through that, connecting your phone/computer to your TV can be done through that port as well, and the world will be a beautiful place (apart from war, politics, famine, and all the other nasty stuff).
Uhm welcome to right now?
You've always had awesome videography. Props!
ʘ‿ʘ
Found this at the end of 2017 and was surprised how correct this video was.
I really am not ready for a world where USB-C is the standard. As someone who likes to work on computers, I like the option of using a UHS-3 SD Card to transfer data and using bulky 32GB USB drives to have all the portable tools I need to fix a PC. USB-C is an emerging technology, so I don't think something like a 128GB USB-C Flash Drive will take off, since it took even modern USB drives a long time to adapt the technology. I am also worried about the potential of having everything in the future ONLY be USB-C. I love my HDMI port, especially when using a higher speed cable. USB-C may make it more difficult to have HDMI sync with the television refresh rate if being used with an adapter. Not to mention that people will have to use USB-C hubs if later-tech does go the MacBook route and has only a USB-C port on it. These hubs will greatly reduce the speed of USB-C because the data will have to be shared with a multitude of devices at once. I feel like going the MacBook route and having later-tech have only a USB-C port will actually be degrading the evolution of our technology rather then improving it.

007K Why not just ask for a headphone jack instead lol

Because TheRoyalPotatoKing, once thy phone companies rid themselves of the jack, they never bring it back.....
Some will try to charge the phone on both ports, and this may not be good
Would be nice if manufactures would put two Type-c ports on their phones. Some of us might want to use their headphones while their phone is charging you know.
cool
usb-c should allow you to charge and transfer data at the same time with one port, same as older micro usb. my old dell tablet has just one mini usb port but can be split so that i can charge at same time while using port. so there is really no reason for more than one port on a phone.
I'm not talking about that. Yes, all USB port work like that, but if you only have one port, then you can only plug one thing in at a time. So if you want to charge your phone, you have to unplug your headphones, and plug in your chrager, and the same vice versa.
14supersonic That's what I'm talking about. Using the single port on my Dell Venue, I can power it and use my game controller simultaneously. No need for multiple ports. It does not work with all tablets and phones, only on ones like Dell which have that feature basically enabled on their micro-USB port. For USB-c, this and more becomes possible, but whether or not it is supported will prolly vary and depend on who you buy from.
14supersonic think USB splitter cable

Admiral Mudkip iMessage and FaceTime
@Bob Jonas IMessage is literally texting, existed for years, Facetime has also existed on competitors devices for years, iOS is a downside not a benefit. iCloud is just cloud storage, nothing special. The app store is a downside, you can't get apps outside of it, like APKs on android. a13 chip is just a processor, android devices come with a variety of processors and there are android phones with more powerful components than iphones. Good cameras aren't exclusive to iphones either, that's a myth. Androids can transfer data to PCs, that's nothing new. Software updates for android are constant. Everything iPhone does Android does better.
