Endeavor os is a great arch distro because it is close to vanilla arch and comes with many desktop environments and a window manager which are xfce, mate, lxqt, i3-wm, cinnamon, plasma, gnome budgie and deepin. Since it is close to Arch it does not come with much bloat. I will agree that arcolinux comes with a lot of DE and WM. Manjaro also comes with good selection of DE and WM. Manjaro WM selection is limited however. My issue with arcolinux is getting nvidia card to work with it for proprietary vulkan drivers. I had no issues with properly installing nvidia drivers in Arch, Manjaro and Endeavor OS. I hope arcolinux fixed that issue.

I get the whole proprietary software argument, but I wish the Linux community had more experience with Windows for the specific reason of improving GNU/Linux. The tools that Microsoft has developed (or acquired) are so far above the tools I've encountered in the Linux realm. Hey DT, I love all your content, even the stuff that is well over my head has taught me things. Your channel and vids are things I am constantly coming back to!
I've been running Arco for a year.. I hopped through a ton of distros before finding Erik's i3 Mint installation script, and it was a gimme to switch to Arco since I really can't stand Ubuntu-based. It puts most other distros to shame. It's that simple, but there's no accounting for taste.
Biggest thing impress me with Arco are all those scripts they have. Very easy to edit the scripts, to make it do what you want it to do. The best scripts written I think.
I love my Ergodox-EZ! I got mine right around the time you got yours. My boss and team lead both had their own, and I had to try it. When I switched I also switched to the Colemak layout. I'm not sure that I would recommend the latter, as I actually type slower, but it is more comfortable for sure.
Man, I completely agree about the the Twitter and Facebook privacy issues. All aside from the data mining and selling your info to anyone who wants it. These platforms are inherently like opening you up as a book in ways that are often not thought of. Take for instance, you might be applying for a job and are a front-runner for the position. It is not unheard of for an HR dept worker to ping you on FB or some of the others just to use the platform as an added character witness and they, for example, find pictures of you and other marijuana advocates smoking a joint or maybe find a quote that paints you in a less-than-favorable political light. They aren't supposed to discriminate in many ways however some do and your resume finds it's way toward the bottom of the deck. It's one example but why mess with these sites when they seldom do most people any good? I've never been on FB and no longer even open my Twitter acct. YT is pretty much it for me and I try to be neutral as I can be. Thanks for the topic!
with arco linux currently on my main laptop, I wouldn't recommend it as an introduction to an arch like enviroment. I would recommend a manual arch install, mainly for the ability to learn about your system as you set it up
I use whatever O.S. will support my workflow. For home, linux works..for most of business, linux with open standards works better than MS, for years I stood by the motto "don't use 2 MS products together, they won't work well." Now I occasionally do high end video, 4k and even 8k video.Linux can't keep up with the 4k production, its buggy, what can be done in 30mins in MS takes hours in linux, and most times will NOT render correctly in linux. But then again, it's about using the right tool for the job, not about forcing a square peg in a round hole. 8k video standards were just agreed upon this year, in time linux will adapt..my workflow is now..i don't have the time to wait at work. I embrace open standards, but until that happens I will use the proprietary software that will work for my workflow.
Arco made Arch easier. Not like Manjaro, many application not working on Manjaro. But with Arco you could install almost anything. Thanks to Eric Dubois. But now I use Hefftor, I'm a DE user, because sometimes my wife or my daughter use my laptop. My favourite WM is IceWM and Openbox.
I started with Arco Linux since yesterday and must admit installing Arch Linux went more smoothly if I did it again a few times, but with Arco Linux it goes even faster and during the installation you can already check the software and drivers to be installed in a check box!
I really enjoy open source OS. I am new to Arch based linux I'm test driving Endeavour OS at the moment. I love Linix Mint and Ghost BSD along with Mac Ventura
The Blue Screen of Death was my main Linux influencer but I must say my first love was windows95 it was fascinating. Yeah the ques that got me to this video was: Whats the difference between Arco Linux & Arch.
Hey DT, can you make some more videos about the ergodox and how you've configured it? I know you tend to stick to more "vanilla" configurations in general but it would be cool for you to talk about some keybindings you have, how it helps you with your tiling wm workflow, etc...! Btw, thanks for introducing me to the ergodox, I'm going to build my own :)
im not a fan of just calling artix a "protest" distro. you're not protesting against systemd, what does it even mean to protest against systemd, you're using an init system that you like
The systemd debate is a formidable example how nowadays even the slightest criticism on or disagree with anything is deemed »hate« and making use of freedom of choice you (still) have is deemed »protest«. The systemd issue has been concerning me a lot lately, and surely not because I »hate« systemd. I'm considering switching from Arch to Artix myself. And this is by far not a protest. We might actually assume that it's absurd how Arch is considered a distro for the knowledge user, but then, the knowledge user is left with no choice on the init system. This is rubbish. I love Arch, but this one criticism I have is a legit and a strong one for sure.
Good said. It is about choice and it would be preferable that archlinux let me choose. I have a machine with arch at the moment, but is because I chose that. I did not chose artix I chose the init system.
i've installed arco with twice with the advanced search. i'm curious to know what environment or wm it gives you after the simple install. does anyone know?
I love Linux and love watching content on UA-cam, really want to try a window manager but not really ready to make the switch just yet but on my main P.c I've tried to make it behave like a window manager by putting things like rofi on it and removing the menu button. Got the idea from a video you did but can't find that video anymore for some reason
~10 minutes of your video is about....who cares. When posting video about certain topic.... talk about it. Arco Linux might be great for real Linux experts, that is fine, but for most of the people who are not experts and might not know what they want (application wise), IMHO, it is better to install "bloated" distro, look around it and remove what the do not need. I like your channel and watch a lot of it. Great work.
Hey DT, Could you please do a full Arco Linux installation video? And not on virtual machine, preferably a dual partition install with Windows or Mac or another Ubuntu based distro. Right now, I am not having an ethernet cable. So is it possible to setup wifi connection first (you can download the wifi driver using Android tethering) and then start installing. I understand it would take time, but again, you can do it in 2-3 parts.
Honestly, if I was in your shoes I'd prove those sites are yours. The damage that could be done by the imposters would keep me up at night. Your younger fans will thank you one day
I know this is an old video but for anybody curios enough: LBRY is not youtube. Now, that may seem obvious but this is why I mention it: if you edit video for youtube and upload that very same video to LBRY, you are making life harder for anybody who wants to watch your stuff in LBRY because the of how the video is encoded, so if you make a video with 8000 mbps over in LBRY it's going to be hell to stream it. The few videos that I do have on LBRY were encoded for 2400 mbps and that's the only I managed for the videos to load fast enough for the end user, they videos do have some graphic glitches but...HEY!
Hey dt, do you have to use java script or even proprietary java script to host videos online? Because basically all the UA-cam alternatives I see: PeerTube, LBRY, and how you host videos on your website, all include not only java script but also non-free java script (detected by GNU LibreJS addon that I use on IceCat). I remember that I watched some video of Richard Stallman on the FSF website and that definitely didn't require non-free java script and I think it actually didn't require java script at all, so it seems to me that it should be possible to host videos without java script or at least without proprietary java script. Btw, why do you have so much non-free java script in your website? Is that only because of the videos or also other parts of the website?
Hi distro, in fact for social media, the fact you have to proove you are you is weird, but imagine tomorrow, somebody decided to arras you and contact UA-cam and say, I'm distrotube, the guy on the screen isn't me, delete this account... You should appreciate that a AI ( in my opinion that the way.😃) decides to analyse something that proove the complainant is false. But I agree, in think it's to sell something afterwards.
I actually don't see anything bad on Facebook or Twitter. I tried Arch Linux, but I couldn't get Firestorm running on it. So, I'm now using Linux Mint. I feel it mothers me a bit too much, but new Linux users might like just that.
Could a decentralized and distributed social media platform work? You host your own videos *but* it's more like torrents where you can download a piece from *each* person who has it; what do you think?

Nice video. I disagree with your points about Arch-based distros. Some background: Debian is the underpining for a lot of distros: Kali, Ubuntu, Mint, etc. Ubuntu is a behemoth that won't die when Debian goes away, but Kali will. All Arch-based distros won't survive if Arch was to go away because they rely heavily on the upstream channels. Ubuntu has enough developers to step in and take over. Manjaro relies on Arch and Arch | ARM, Arco and Artix relies on Arch. Arco basically puts a Debian spin on an Arch install - which takes away from the point of Arch. If I want a Debian-like distro then I would suggest use Debian. If you're more DIY then I'd suggest Arch or Void. If you hate systemd then, again, there's Void. To your point about something to offer: even though Mint won't last without Ubuntu, I think if offers the best "new user" experience that's close to what a Mac offers; the UI is really refined - any Mac or Windows user can navigate easily compared to stock Gnome-based Ubuntu.
I'm very grateful for Arco since it is pacman based distribution that my girlfriend can easily use right away. So we can share some configs and such. That's a pure romance.
hey dt, i've recently been trying out your polybar configs, but I may ask: what fonts are needed? i installed font awesome 5 and nerd-fonts-noto-sans-mono nerd-fonts-noto-sans-regular-complete and nerd-fonts-ubuntu-mono, but it still drops umatching charters. i'm on arch too (actually artix). what font am I missing? thank you very much!
@@DistroTube I'm using main-xmonad-extra, and I installed those fonts via the AUR mostly (iirc FA is is the repos). Do I need to install them manually? Maybe the AUR installed them with a different name, and that's why it drops charters?
You could probably make an application, that you fill out the information, and it posts it to both YT and LBRY, not sure how you would do it, but it could possibly fix the issue with lbry taking a couple days to upload the video, and you would only have to fill it out once.
I've considered something like Archlabs and Arcolinux to experiment with on a persistent usb or virtual machine, but I don't really see the point of jumping to a fork of Arch unless I have a specific reason. I'll just stick with vanilla Arch.
I'm using Manjaro because I just want to use my system for work. Being a rolling distro with a little more checking for issues before release means not worrying too much about updates breaking stuff as well as not having to update the entire system and the Pamac software installer/updater/remover that is included is great for me because I don't live to administer my computer's operating system. My computer is there to run the software that I use for business, not for tinkering with all day.

I come here to hear my day-to-day dosis of "proprietary garbage". You never disappoint 🤣🤣
LOL literally my question watching yesterday's video.
Same, I went researching yesterday to why he would do that. I figured maybe that's why, but nice to get a confirmation to why he chooses that.
I was distro hopping a lot but stopped at MX linux it's fast, clean and stable.
Yeah, me too. Great tools too. I love all the things they give you.
Great to see fans of MX, I love it too, most of the time in fluxbox on MX.
There are two great Linux channels Luke Smith and EF Tech made simple.
not as fast as other distros
Thank you for looking at us.
IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A KEYBOARD JUST LIKE THIS ONE THANK YOU SO MUCH ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The Jupiter Broadcasting crew was the default Linux hotness for years
your evangelism to linux work is appreciated father..
Thank you, Derek.
Arco is Amazing! I'm 100% Arco I3 !! I'm started with Arco because you and you in my heart because this DT. Go ahead, you save life's!
This is true, never heard of qtile until I saw your videos. Now some my machines use qtile. Thank you!
man arco linux with qtile is PERFECT!!!!
Agreed
I love my Ergodox-EZ! I got mine right around the time you got yours. My boss and team lead both had their own, and I had to try it. When I switched I also switched to the Colemak layout. I'm not sure that I would recommend the latter, as I actually type slower, but it is more comfortable for sure.
After the switch to Colemak I'm consistently baffled by the qwerty positions when I have to use it. Looking at the home row like "Can I buy a vowel?"
@@RosalioRedPanda No vowels for you, but here's a semicolon!
What a perfect video. TY for introducing my favourite Linux Distro
> Answers Peertube question thousands of times
> Answers one more time
Ah yes that oughta cover it
Great show today DT. Thanks!
Thanks, Kevin.
I still have a couple of LAS challenge coins and a thick LAS hoodie. Remember that LAS interview with RMS? Good times!
I remember that epic RMS interview. "It's negative in the freedom dimension." lol
I would recommend a manual arch install, mainly for the ability to learn about your system as you set it up
You just sold me Arco, I'm trying it in a VM right now. Might be life changer as well, never used Arch (tho I used manjaro) and a Tiling WM before
The devs are mostly on holiday for a bit, but there are always peeps on discord if you have questions. We love problem solving.
@@thenextpoetician6328 thanks!
@@ulqi You're welcome. PeterD's hybrid is gorgeous, btw. I run it in VB. Might be worth a look even if just for kicks, same as the Hefftor Editions.
read the wiki and install pure arch. you can do that in half an hour or less
You awesome distrotube. :).
Thanks for the hard work you do. I allways try to learn from the videos you make.
Hey DT, can you make some more videos about the ergodox and how you've configured it? I know you tend to stick to more "vanilla" configurations in general but it would be cool for you to talk about some keybindings you have, how it helps you with your tiling wm workflow, etc...! Btw, thanks for introducing me to the ergodox, I'm going to build my own :)
that haircut of yours changed my life 😂 so much so, I am also sporting the COVID19 cut too brrrrroooooo
Hey, DT, are xou a buddhist?
Writing that question down...
I’m sure DT isn’t submitting to such a mainstream religion such as Buddhism. I bet he’s a Zoroastrian. 😝
Thank you I was wondering that too but was too shy to ask
I had fun with Artix Linux, and they have an i3 default release in testing, so after I'm done testing Void Linux, I'll give that a go in a VM.
yeah arcolinux!!! my favorite distro for 20 months now.
im not a fan of just calling artix a "protest" distro. you're not protesting against systemd, what does it even mean to protest against systemd, you're using an init system that you like
The systemd debate is a formidable example how nowadays even the slightest criticism on or disagree with anything is deemed »hate« and making use of freedom of choice you (still) have is deemed »protest«.
I think the Fedora Everything installer has an option to install Xmonad. Or it could be bspwm
i've installed arco with twice with the advanced search. i'm curious to know what environment or wm it gives you after the simple install. does anyone know?
You totally forgot PCLinuxOS. It doesn't use systemd and you get to the end of installation easily.
fastest rapper alive? DT when reading Patreon support list.
I have been checking out Mabox lately. I really like it. Nice and fast, minimal.
Great work.
SPOT ON.. DT.. SPOT ON.
Your younger fans will thank you one day
Or he just could create an account with dt official or something like that an post a video saying he's not active in twitter and that's it.
WM's? No thank you. DT video's? Yes please.
@DT syncing from Lbry to YT is what Gardner does, as far as I recall, but manual uploads are always the old reliable way
Isn't UA-cam proprietary software?
Can you do a recap of the Tom from OSGUI vs Jordan from This Week is Linux?
i love the openbox edition.
what do people do in terms of retaining privacy and their isp selling their info
Love linux. I have been using Linux before UA-cam existed. Wow! we have come a long way.
I've tiled everything. My car. My ceiling. My house. I even tiled my dawg. Man was he pissed !
DT, would you ever considered doing some KVM tutorials?
I need that too...
I wonder why not a lot more distros have the option to choose software when installing. It's really awesome for quick customization.
Hey DT, have you ever tried GoboLinux, it uses the Awesome WM as their default.
Could a decentralized and distributed social media platform work? You host your own videos *but* it's more like torrents where you can download a piece from *each* person who has it; what do you think?
Quit FB years ago, Google, Facebook , twitter, They chose whats alowed to say, they call the shots, Just stop use their services people, please.
Also i started using Arco linux for the past 2 weeks. Really like it, So i send some money their way, If you really like a distro or a youtuber, Please support them
Have you used freedombox ?
I'm very grateful for Arco since it is pacman based distribution that my girlfriend can easily use right away. So we can share some configs and such. That's a pure romance.
hey dt, i've recently been trying out your polybar configs, but I may ask: what fonts are needed? i installed font awesome 5 and nerd-fonts-noto-sans-mono nerd-fonts-noto-sans-regular-complete and nerd-fonts-ubuntu-mono, but it still drops umatching charters. i'm on arch too (actually artix). what font am I missing? thank you very much!
Depends on what window manager module you are using in my config. Look in that module and you should see the fonts I use with that window manager.
Also, depending on how you installed those fonts, you may need to run fc-cache. ( sudo fc-cache -f -v )
@@DistroTube I'm using main-xmonad-extra, and I installed those fonts via the AUR mostly (iirc FA is is the repos). Do I need to install them manually? Maybe the AUR installed them with a different name, and that's why it drops charters?
Hey @Distrotube, You're pretty cool)
You're pretty OK too. :D
i want to try arco but the game i mainly play (FFXIV) refuses to get installed.
You could probably make an application, that you fill out the information, and it posts it to both YT and LBRY, not sure how you would do it, but it could possibly fix the issue with lbry taking a couple days to upload the video, and you would only have to fill it out once.
The Twitter DT states clearly that he's "NOT the DT on UA-cam" :-D
I've considered something like Archlabs and Arcolinux to experiment with on a persistent usb or virtual machine, but I don't really see the point of jumping to a fork of Arch unless I have a specific reason. I'll just stick with vanilla Arch.
I use FDE's, and I like Wayland
I'm using Manjaro because I just want to use my system for work. Being a rolling distro with a little more checking for issues before release means not worrying too much about updates breaking stuff as well as not having to update the entire system and the Pamac software installer/updater/remover that is included is great for me because I don't live to administer my computer's operating system.
My computer is there to run the software that I use for business, not for tinkering with all day.
But peertube
