- I often get asked which Linux distribution is my favorite. My answer is usually one of two responses: (a) I don't have a favorite, or (b) it's the distro that I'm currently running. Well, if it's the latter then my favorite distro has been Arco Linux for the last two years.

Eric Dubois is a legend, the amount of tutorials he does is as insane as the Arch Wiki.
He is unstoppable .
And he is so quick in solving new problems that crop up due to Arch updates.
His work ethic is really inspirational!!
He’s a legend
We need more man like him to grow Linux users.
Worth mentioning that the main guy behind ArcoLinux, Erik Dubois, has a UA-cam channel where he does a bunch of tutorials on Linux
"A bunch" is putting it mildly.
Dude really uploads 3 videos a day on average
And where do we find that channel?

Arco Linux was the first Arch based Linux distro that I tried and its what I am still using on my main machine. I have not had any issues with hardware/software/games including steam. I would recommend to new arch users. Like DT stated its super easy to install. Great content!
what is your specs?
I just recently installed arch Linux in my main I came from manjaro, but I might just make a virtual machine with arcolinux it seem kind of fun to mess with
Wholehearted agree with that statement. It was also my first Arch distro almost 2 years ago, and I'm also still running the on my main machine. I'm using Arcolinux Plasma, and I absolutely love it! I've had 2 very VERY minor issues here and there, but they've been almost exclusively issues with apps/the AUR vs Arcolinux itself. However there was one time I had run updates and hadn't rebooted in a few weeks, but when I did, it locked at the black screen white blinking cursor in the upper left and something for borked; when I got back to desktop my KDE Plasma config was totally reset to OOB settings. Other than that it's BY FAR the best Distro I've run in 7 years running Linux.
Derek's videos are the main reason I tried and then switched to Arcolinux on my main rig. I switched from Pop!_OS to Arcolinux and I've never loooked back!
Stellar video as always DT. I've been subbed to you since 12k subscribers. Really happy you've come so far and been so successfully. You are truly a blessing & positive asset to the Linux community! 👍
this is the best distru ever i seen ...
but i'm concerned about maintaining in the future ...

Good video, DT.
Been running an ArcolinuxD installation with i3wm for about a month now. Only just recently got around to configuring polybar, picom, and various other customizations. I'm still a pretty new user and the learning process has been an absolute blast, especially with the help of your videos!
All ArcoB ISO's are preconfigured. If you only want the stuff installed what you want you need to use ArcoD.
Yeah I noticed B installed a bunch of stuff I did not select at all
can you differentiate between all its versions ?? L, S, B, and D

@@sanjai7746 L = Large, many pre-installed Package and DE and WM. But if you choose this edition you'll installed a Xfce4 as default and you can't avoid that
S = Small, not much pre-installed package, but the same thing as L you can't avoid Xfce4 as default installed
B = BIG, choose your own DE or WM in the Sourceforge download page and that's will become default DE or WM. You can avoid installing Xfce4 in this edition
D = DO IT YOURSELF. ame thing as all above, but there are no pre-configure timezone, you can install DE or WM in this edition. And also you can avoid installing Xfce4
I just installed Arco Linux this afternoon after binge watching your channel for a week!! Been out of touch in the Linux world for a while. Played around with your config files all day, and it was really cool exploring
Feeling really good seeing a new Arco Linux video from you
Thanks for re-igniting my passion for Linux man! Probably will move completely move out of Windows the following months
You install it every day?
Xtended installs them all regardless. That's the point of the ISO - trying them all. If you had only intended to install those few twm's, there's ArcoLinux D.
All Arco ISO's have sddm as default due to a LightDM issue a while back. Switching is up to the user.
Urxvt has become default recently. Again, the user is required to customize.
Also, there are 22 desktops and 26 ISO's.
Keep trying. :)
That's the part I do not get with Arco, if it was intended to install all these WM's why have the option to choose the WM in the installer? same with the software, Arco always installs meld and firefox, but why have the option in the installer? its meant to be an option, not present you with the option and install these software's anyway regardless of what "Option" you chose.
@@TheDrunkenAlcoholic You can install what is on the ISO by not checking the box, or you can select for net install, which furnishes the latest version.

You can install nearpy all packages on nearly all linux based operating systems
Have just got a refurbished PC from Amazon (Dell Optiplex 3010 with 8gb RAM) I'm running Arcolinux B CINNAMON and it just works! Erik's channel is the place to go for tutorials and they really have a very consistent approach to how they configure all of the desktop environments and window managers they offer . Arco takes a lot from Arch Linux and makes it work out of the box. Their philosophy is that Arco should,d give you knowledge which can be applied to Arch if you choose to use it at some point. Great Distro which needs more publicity.
“I run Arco by the way!” LMAO!!
DT you are an absolute madman. There is no way I could keep up with you bud. Really appreciate your vids. They keep telling me how much I don't know. :) Thanks man.
I don't use 95%, of that linux software, but I am 100% on board with these perfect recommendations! Your best Video 2021 in my opinion.

Iv'e downloaded and installed about a dozen Linux distros. So far I like KDE Neon and Mint and yesterday I installed permanently Arcolinux replacing Zorin. I'm using the plasma desktop I love this distro so much. I find the biggest problem with linux is there are so many DE its hard to find the right one ,but finally I have decided on Arcolinux with plasma So nice to be free from Microsoft.
Thank you so much for this video... I use to be a big Manjaro Fan until there last couple of updates when things just stopped working they way they were supposed to and I couldn't fix them. Thanks to this video I found a new 💕. I just installed it as my main distro and will never look back at any other distro. I found what I need and really want from a distro. I knew that I loved KDE as a DE and I loved arch as a distro but I needed something that just worked with those two things. I tried artix... It worked but the wifi didn't and I tried to fix it but nothing that I researched fixed it. I was on Manjaro but then it was having so many issues with itself as of the last couple of updates. However this video won my heart and my attention. I switched over and now I'm so happy that I did. Sorry Manjaro you'll always have place in my heart but I found something else. Thank you DistroTube for helping me not disro hop.
I like the color in this video over your few previous ones. This one is crisper and clearer. For my taste, you could cool down the background even more, but your skin tones look pretty good now.
Just re-installed Arch yesterday and got my workstation all set up. Now after watching this, I'm so tempted to go back to my first distro, which was Arco-linux.
I wish I wasn't so petty.
Arch having a cooler name makes it worth it for me to deal with the installation.
I just reinstalled Arch yesterday, and I couldn't for the life of me get lightdm or xdm to work, I had to use sddm again.
I just Installed arcolinux on my machine, Thanks for such great tutorials DT ❤️🤗
Woa! I like that! DT, I believe you've finally nudged me over to the Arch world. I've been a Debian based user since 2007, but now I think I'm going to pull the trigger on Arco.
NOTICE: Xtended is now standard in Arco B, you don't need to build the iso
It's great if you don't use tiling DEs, and want to try them out in a semi set up state, but the fact that the keybindings are unified and split up across two files makes it a bit of a mess. For example the default qtile keybindings assume that you want to use mod4. If you swapped it to mod1 you'd have to also change all of the keybindings in the sxhkdrc for it to work. I'm definitely going back to defaults and making an org-mode config as soon as I have spare time.
i3 was relatively simple for me, but granted I use EndeavorOS's version of i3
Thank you DT for this video. 👍
Slowly coming around to the idea of tiling window managers after watching all your videos on them :).
Oh my god...just installed ArcoLinuxB. This must be the distro to rule them all. Thank you DT! I think I have finally landed, this will be my main distro from now on!

Erik Dubois, the Living Legend.
I truly dislke Polybar. Arcolinux' s SpectrWM config also replaces the default bar with Polybar.
Any good replacements? Xmobar seems like a good fit or dwm-status if you are extremely minimal.
I agree.I like the default bar much more. With a few tweaks it can be configured to your liking. I also dont like that Arrcolinux SpectrWM edition changes some of the default key bindings. Plus I also observed that when playing youtube videos in full screen polybar does not hide itself.

I was looking at Garuda for Arch with everything I need preinstalled, but this gives you so much more choice and doesn't shove the zen kernel etc down your throat if you don't want it.
This might be it.

Manjaro Architect is similar in that you can choose everything for the install.
Hey dt, a tutorial on how to install i3gaps from source on ubuntu and setting up compton would be nice
I like how linux installs in a fraction of the time of windows ten and updates for linux are small in size and you can choose whether to install them or not. Windows forces updates on you which I don't like. I'm going to try this distro on my spare computer and test it out.
Man you make my live easy thank you alot
I thought it worth mentioning... the default kernel is also a good option if the drivers ended up messed up for your GPU on the last LTS release.
You would want a proprietary driver for AMD because the open source ones don't do cuda... or whatever AMD calls their version. Basically, if you want to play games, you can stick with the open source one, if you want to use your computer as a workstation you need the proprietary one.
Lightdm has bugs on Arco, which is why lightdm didn't go up, I think.
Indeed. I couldn't get the iso to boot at all and the solution was far beyond my skills. Once again, my attempts to check out a (any) Arch-based distro fails.
Why would i need every tiling window manager when dwm exists? 🤔
Thanks, love your work!
No sway in the window manager options... I'm sure it's installable later in any case.

Arco Linux is really really awesome! maybe the best distro i've ever used!
Hey DT,
In your last few videos, any time you mention GIMP, you've said "The GIMP". Is there a particular reason for that? I've only ever heard anyone else call it just "GIMP".
Will try! Thank you :)
Umm, as 27 years Linux user, I have to say your effort to bring a new user to Linux is fantastic, and presenting Arco gives them a solid backbone to have a sharp and faster OS. But let's face the real, for a newbie, I never recommend your choice of WM, surely I start with Xfce or KDE/Gnome for newer hardware. even the Arco distro is not what I recommend, for sure I recommend EndeavourOS without the themed Desktop using plain XFCE. then lets the game begins.
I don't understand this. You choose what to istall, but when installed it also installed things you didn't choose to install!?

Have you tried the Archinstall script? I think it's pretty cool, and it makes the installation of arch almost as easy as the derivitives.
I've tried window managers. But I couldn't get the hang of i3 and went back to bouncing between cinnamon, mate, and xfce
Just tried ArcoLinux with Gnome desktop. Alt+Tab doesn't work at all. From the start... How is this a stable linux and a distro to recommend.
If you start out with a tiling window Manager, just use i3.
Its true that Erik is a really nice and very competent guy, but i think arch has become very easy to start from the base iso and install step by step only what you need and nothing more;)
But it is true that for those who do not want to bother, this is certainly the best solution.
Arch is still a pain in the ass to install.
My main problem with Arco is the fact that it installs all the default stuff even though it you dont want it. Like in the video it installed Sddm, Openbox, i3, urxvt even tho none of it was specified and it's all just bloat that you need to remove later. so all this time you saved on installing software from installer is wasted on debloating your system.
Dt says that Xmonad is complicated, and I'm sure it is, but since they have everything configured on Arco including the polybar, and the conky having the key bindings, wouldn't that make Xmonad easy?
