    I love these comparison videos! My pet peeve is when two like pickups are not compared side by side (bridge to bridge, neck to neck) because the human brain cannot remember 2 sounds back, which renders the comparison obsolete. Great tones and production quality though!

    I've got a Seth bridge already (with a 59 Neck) and I think this video has made me realise I need to buy a set of Antiquities.
    The Antiquity sounds like a pickup where you can actually use the Neck pickup properly, without just loads of muddy woof.

    I like the Antiquity's over the Seth's overall.. To my ears the Ants have a tighter, balanced sound while I find the Seth's a little looser, a little more microphonic is maybe what I am picking up on. I do like the Seth's on the clean, quieter, delicate passages but no more than the Ants. There are just some passages where I do not like the Seth bridge very much at all for the reasons I stated above. I could do a Seth Neck and Ant bridge and probably be happy, but I would rather go with the Ant's in both.
    Your comparisons are very good. I wouldn't mind seeing you edit to switch between pickups like go from neck to neck then bridge to bridge. But really your vids are about the best I have come across for my use.
    Thank you for doing it..

      Yea, that’s the main complaint I get, but its just hard enough to maintain 4-5 clips per video and get them in order and stored for future use. If I do a single shootout, I usually do it that way, but when I do these 20-30 video series, its just easier on the brain After endless swaps, and filming in short periods of time. I appreciate the input and thanks for watching and kind words!!!

      Good analysis, tommyd688. They are similar, but the more they're compared, especially via playing them, the more they begin to diverge. The Seth Lovers are often thought to be brighter and punchier, but I find the Antiquities to be the more dynamic and articulate. It's as if the Seth's have a blurriness to them and their softer attack doesn't help. I prefer the Antiquity's leaner presentation and sharper attack.

    I’m leaning to the Lovers - seems to be less difference between the two pups which I like. I don’t like a drastic change when switching. The Anitiquities seem muffier and brighter in the two positions.

    I'm getting a 2016 Les Paul Standard which is coming with a set of Antiquities installed already, can't wait! I also noticed you can hear the tubes rattle in the recording, are you using a combo? I notice because I had a Marshall combo which did the same thing and it always drove me crazy.

  • @ScottSheridan-nw8uz
    @ScottSheridan-nw8uz 2 місяці тому

    Very good comparison. The pups do exactly as they should. The Antiquties are basicly Seth lovers that have been broken in taking out the higher frequencies and softening the over all attack. Antiquities for the win!

  • @Fugettaboutit

    Ant's definitely clearer with less low mids and a bit more chime, no doubt because of their weakened magnets. I like using a new/fully-charged A2 magnet for bridge position Antiquity humbuckers. Just a bit more meat.

    The Antiquities have everything a great 50's PAF has...stunning tone! Seths aren't too shabby either haha! For me the Antiquities have a little more "mongrel & soul" when pushed.

    I prefer the seth neck and the antiquity bridge. I have always heard that the seth bridge sounded hotter than the ant bridge because of the seth having a full strength magnet but the antiquitiy bridge sounds more aggressive here .

    Like someone else's comment, I thought I would like the Ant's better, but I think I prefer the Seth's. I'm a sucker a growling bridge pickup which the Seth has over the Ant. The Ant's are not bad by any means and I'd probably buy them if hearing them alone. Compared to the Seth's though...well. My understanding is that both p/u sets use the same A2 magnet, but the Ant's are aged/weakened. The Ant's must have a higher wind-count which would account for the higher DCR measurement. The Seth's sound more powerful though. Comparing the Seth's to the Ant's is very much like comparing my 2001 R9 with original '57 Classics to my 2021 R9 with Custombuckers. On a different note, Seymour Duncan pickups are generally a fantastic bargain compared to pricey boutique pickups. Another great and very interesting comparison Visual Guy...thanks!

      @@VisualGuy I was going to get Seth Lovers based on watching your videos but a pair of Gibson 59 tributes were on ebay for a really good deal and I got those. They’re PAF burstbuckers with the slug coil wound hotter. If you can get your hands on them they might make a good comparison video but they’re somewhat rare because they only came in 2014 Gibsons for the 120th anniversary. The only way to get them is to pull them out of a guitar.

    • @therollband1290

      Or you could swap the magnets in the 61 burstbuckers from A5 to A2 magnets.

    can I suggest you to edit these clips in the format neck a/neck b, bridge a/bridge b, instead of neck a, bridge a/neck b, bridge b? I think it's much more easy to get the comparison for who is watching (but I guess also a bit more challengin for who edit the video)

    • @airbag97
      @airbag97 3 роки тому +1

      ah, sorry, I forgot to say that you did a great job in all these videos anyway

    • @VisualGuy
      @VisualGuy  3 роки тому +1

      I’ve had that suggestion before, and when I do a “single” shootout, I do it that way. But these were part of a 28 video series, and the series before that had 48 videos in it! So its a lot harder to organize and manage 16-20 clips per video, rather than 8-10. From a storing perspective on drives to actually making sure I have them in the right order.
      My thoughts have always been, people should be watching on a computer with good audio, so opening two browsers wouldn’t be too much for someone really doing their research. None the less, I do understand that it would be easier for folks though, so I appreciate the feedback. If I do another run, I’ll try to do it that way. But at least we have “something” right? Cheers and thanks so much for watching!!!

Maybe slightly leaning towards Antiquity but it’s not lost on my that you can’t get The Whole picture on a UA-cam video and me playing them will sound different than you. Great comparison though.
