Wolfgang A. Mozart
Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, KV.466
Clara Haskil, piano / Igor Markevitch, cond.
Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux
recorded in 1960
There is hardly anyone that can match Clara Haskil's Mozart d minor concerto...absolutely beautiful one continuous line in music.
I prefer Uchida and others, specially at the solo (11:03) of the first movement. Haskil is not faithful.
Uchida is trash! The best Mozart piano concerto players are Really=Mozart 17 Dezo Ranki Mozart 18 Ashkenazy Mozart 19 Radu Lupu Mozart 20 Vladimir Ashkenazy Mozart 21 Radu Lupu Mozart 22 Robert Casadesus Laura Mikkola Jörg Demus Natalia Trull Mozart 23 Solomon Cutner( others good=Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov Wilhem Kempff) Mozart 24 Maria Grinberg Grigory Sokolov Mozart 25 Murray Perahia Mozart 27 Alexei Lubimov

The greatest of all time
Still the best concert recording of No 20 Piano Concerto. Many tried it and never get close to this. There are in all music and art exceptionally good pieces that are created for enternity. This is one of it.
No. I prefer Uchida and others, specially at the solo (11:03) of the first movement, which is one of the most beautiful things that exist, but not here, because it is not melodically faithful and suffocated by the technique that is too fast.
I'm 50 and just hearing this version for the first time. It's like discovering a new continent! Amazing pianist, perfect collaboration.
It is just great, she was one of the greatest if not "the greatest" on Mozart! What a Lost was it for us all as she died in this Accident.
In 2022 we can still say we couldn't replace this small, genius woman!!
Markewitch is too another story...
Lets face it!! in our time of '22 we still couldn't surpass this recording!!
And we think we are better than the past. In what are we better then?
Not in this concerto!! This is for sure!
I advise listening to Sir Clifford Curzon and English Chamber Orchestra under Benjamin Britten from 1970 on Decca that in my opinion beats all other renditions of this concerto with its slower but extremely appealing and mesmerizing interpretation
Unsterbliche Frau Haskil.
In 1960 there were Marcelle Meyer - Lili Krauss ( j have listened Lili Kraus at Alger in 1957 ) and Clara Haskil , three great pianists in Mozart of course Clara Haskil , when we listen Haskil one time j listen her all my life . Pity there are not many records unknoxn before 50 y old Clara Haskil ! not as to day where pianists play at 12 y old on You Tube !
The performance of the soloist and of the orchestra lie beyond the range of expression. The music is truly sublime. It seems as if it is the point of existence and our true home. The recording can only be compared to the performance of Marta Argerich and an Italian opera orchestra which has glittering brilliance and power. But Haskil is immaculate - divine in her expression as Mozart was in his creation.
I don't think there has ever been a more touching recording of this incredible concerto🙏🙏🙏
I grew up listening to this recording and I am so grateful to my parents for raising me surrounded by such beauty🙏🙏🙏❣️
Listen to Gulda and Brendel!
@@pebo8306 I advise listening to Sir Clifford Curzon and English Chamber Orchestra under Benjamin Britten from 1970 on Decca that in my opinion beats all other renditions of this concerto with its slower but extremely appealing and mesmerizing interpretation
@@januszstopa3383 Thank's for the hint!will be looking for it!👍
@@pe.bo.5038 worth looking for this timeless and immortal interpretation. Especially in sacd format on esoteric
@@pebo8306 With all respect but Gulda doesn't have Haskil's touché and Brendel sounds like a sewing machine compared to Haskil.
As the legend goes, this is truly legendary.
My IDOL for Mozart...no one else's Mozart can touch Clara Haskil's IMO...the very definition of SUBLIME and PERFECTION....!!
Gulda and Brendel would not agree!
I think that recordings by Robert Casadesus and George Szell are in Haskil’s league, not the others. And oh for the days when a recording involved suspending a single mic over an orchestra and leaving balance to the conductor rather than nerds with knobs.
Bravo for the sound engineering. I remember this recording fifty years ago. It was just tolerable. Now, it's as if our contemporaries were playing. I love Markevitch as well. He is the ideal Mozart conductor for this great interpretation.
Thanks for comment.... does sound good , ((through my BOSE SOUND BLOCKING/ Wireless Headphones, on MINIPAD.. )). INTERESTINGLY, IMHAVE ALWAYS been Beethoven Fan, (etc, & MOZART OPERA, with His Music),this does speak to me........also, seems funny not to have Vinyl Records, after “ collecting “ 100s for 40++ years......& using a lot.... I also miss the informations/ pictures/Drama on much of, Vinyl records,....
best version!
Few pianists conveyed the tragedy and poignancy in Mozart as did Clara Haskil. Coincidentally, only a few weeks after she recorded this concerto with Markevitch (which I think was some time in November of 1960), she would be dead from that tragic accident in Brussels, almost ten years to the day after the death of her dear colleague and compatriot Dinu Lipatti. Someone once said "Out of much tragedy comes great beauty", or words to that effect (don't ask me who). How apropos this aphorism for those two great Romanian poets of the piano.
One of my friends played with her....
the 2nd movement got me teary eyed......so beautiful and moving, mozart's genius brought to life by haskill, markevith and the ochestra's artistry
I think pianist, conductor and orchestra have penetrated the heart of this work. I am certainly very glad to hear this recording - there are moments of extraordinary beauty.
This concerto deserves to be immortal!
Fábio Santana As is Mozart
It is.
Immortelle Clara, merci....
Simplesmente é maravilhoso ouvir Clara Haskil, nos anos 70 ganhei um LP com os concertos Nºs 20 & 24 de Mozart, obrigado por postar, Carapicuiba-SP-Brasil-26-08-2022-Sexta Feira-18:00Hs.-Laspiano....
Really amazing and surprising. I knew this concerto very well but under her fingers I heard it for the first time. She was a complete outsider.
It's surprised to be remained the recording of Clara Haskil and
Igor Markevitch.
It's treasure and masterpiece.
To say nothing of Mozart
No20 concert...
Recording technique is
as good as the rendition.
I think so, too.
Beautiful ❤
My favorite by far
Wonderful Clara Haskil!
Clara Haskil has the quality of a sound that seems a "Pearl River"!
Thanks for this upload. Two great artists, one great French orchestra and an exceptionally fine recording - who could ask for more. Igor Markevitch is not so well known today as some other conductors from his era but from any recordings I've heard from him he was most certainly one of the greats.
Magnifique, merci Resoundworks.
The performance lets us happy.
2 grandi interpreti
Just beautiful, especially the 2nd mov. ........

Robert Casadesus and Clara Haskil on Mozart are eternal.
Il.Kyu Lee : l listened Robert Casadesus for the first time at Alger ( cto 5 Beethoven in live Alger Opera ) in 1958 and j remember Clara Haskil one vinyl with the last Scbubert-sonata , they were 100/ 100 true musicians not to day with internet and mediatization , j think the best pianists are before internet it's for me
Good Sounds
My all time favorate
In my collection,Igor Markevitch remains in Mozart's and Beethoven's piano concerto with Clara Haskil.
That`s what I`ve been searching for
Just thought this from Wikipedia is interesting:
An esteemed friend of Haskil, Charlie Chaplin, described her talent by saying "In my lifetime I have met three geniuses; Professor Einstein, Winston Churchill, and Clara Haskil. I am not a trained musician but I can only say that her touch was exquisite, her expression wonderful, and her technique extraordinary." (Swiss Radio interview, 19 April 1961.)
In a 2013 interview, Pope Francis mentioned Haskil as one of his favorite musicians, especially when performing Mozart.
0:00 is a good place to start.
thanks for info, just thought it would be nice to say thanks lol. appreciated
A pity Chaplin included Winston Churchill into his trio. Churchill was an incompetent, racist, egomaniacal thug who, from sheer arrogance and stupidity, extinguished the lives of hundreds of thousands of men and women. It is long past the time that people should have caught on to the true nature of Churchill. I apologise for introducing this unpleasantness into an appreciation of Clara Haskil's superb playing of this wonderful concerto.
One must reflect upon the life of Mozart here. Without him this grand performance was never possible. This composer is a true generous who lived as genius through out his life. He died in desperate poverty, so poor that his wife had no money to bury him . His body was dumped in a public grave for unknown people in Vienna and never identified. He is in good company with Schiele, Modigliani etc, true geniuses who transcended the worldly value system. Clala Huskil is one of the best pianists such as Lili Klaus and Mitsuko Uchida who understood the soul of Mozart.
Un pur moment de grâce, merci infiniment !
Das ist das beste...
Uno dei miei concerti preferiti da sempre!!!
Grazie per averlo postato ReSoundWorks! :)
SEINE Musik hört man in 1000 Jahren noch WA Mozart
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Wow! So great sound! How could she make that sound!
Bravo

velvet sweet warm lightness lyrical musical is Haskil ' s sound in Mozart , Schumann ( waldszenen ) or last sonata-Schubert are the top of piano , it's a piano who speaks to me since very from in the time .

I heard Claraplaying, wonderful,no worry it works this morn
Great.
I think the extreme virtuosity variences around min 9:00 - 9:40 harbingers the coming of this cadence which doesn't sound too irrelevant as for the whole of the show. The cadence might be too romanticised or modernized bearing somewhat an enthousiastic post-war spirit. But still, Haskil gives us the best.
The greatest of all time
amazing music
My favorite!!
Farinaz Parsay
cool Farinaz. I didn't know you liked classical music. :)
Elomere I love classical music. I grew up with it :)
Pure spirit overcoming Twisted fate
I think Robert Casadesus composed a very interesting cadenza for this concerto
Un Voyage au Royaume des Cieux.
Sadly she died in the same year of this recording.
I have never heard a performance that understands the essence of Mozart's piano song, except for her.
That is a regrettable situation. I am really sad.
Due to the depth of understanding to musical instruments, depth of knowledge of work, good balance feeling, she is highly appreciated throughout her life.
"The necessary condition for a pianist to remain in history is never a sociable personality," I say.

spaventoso....
Genius......
Honnêtement, a-t-on fait mieux depuis?
Charlie Chaplin: i knew in my life 3 geniuses: Professor Einstein, Winston Churchill and Clara Haskil"
Dan Yariv-Weisbuch kinda ruins it with winston churchill lol but good quote
Thomas Hessling thanks, but Perhaps Churchill contributed greatly to saving WWII (sort of close with Hitler), and Public Life........Actually could use a few more Geniuses in Public Service and Politics......
@@ChopinIsMyBestFriend 😄 😅
@@opera93 makes sense i guess. i mean churchill is obviously not a genius like einstein is a genius. saying a political figure is a genius leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Chaplin was a genius. Takes one to know one.
Also No.20 concert is the most brilliant in Mozart.
wow, this one is actually pretty old but I love it because it reminds me of my childhood, maybe it wasn't great, but it wasn't that bad. im so happy that I bought a cd with this.
👍👍💕

an exaltation of larks
This might be Mozart's best concerto, and it might be Haskil's best performance. I do wish she had used Beethoven's beautiful cadenzas instead of her own, however.
And it's worth mentioning that it's hard to write worse cadenzas for K.466 than Beethoven did, however most composers manage to do so. Hummel and Levin definitely have the best ones.
Beethoven's cadenzas are absolute perfection.
Anybody knows which cadenza is? Beethoven?
Deutsche Grammophon website says it is Haskil's own cadenza.

The cadenza of the 3rd part is damn too short
Volodymyr Tkach In this performance Haskil simply skip it to make her own unique interpretation.
I have three heroes: Albert Einstein, Karl Marx and Clara Haskil
I'm sorry, but I dislike the cadenza that she plays in the first movement (Mozart didn't write any cadenzas for this concerto, unfortunately). Beethoven wrote such wonderful cadenzas for it--I don't know of any that are better! This is a wonderful performance, although I do prefer (FWIW) Monique de la Bruchollerie's performance with Paumgartner.
Ok, you don't have to be sorry. It's just a matter of preference
Donald Wright I prefer the cadenza of Brahms. But it would be interesting to listen to it with the Gershwin's one
Volodymyr Tkach funny!
completely colorless, mechanical and metronomic -- 10 thumbs down!
Colorless, like your opinion
Which performance are you commenting? I’m sure you got a little confused. Or are you pulling the legs of the rest of the listeners? Have fun and enjoy the music!
