Magnificent! My favorite recordings of this concerto has always been recordings by Gilels and by Backhaus. Compared to their strong and powerful Beethoven, Haskil is much more subtle and tender - one may say a more feminine outlook on this concerto. What a delightful alternative way to enjoy this great concerto. Backhaus and Gilels jointly remains my first choice, but Haskil is my favorite alternative.
I think this is Beethoven's best concerto, though the 5th is far more heralded and so damn good too. Between the two, I think whichever one I am listening to at the moment is the best. Yes, that's it....o yes, and a wonderful interpretation in this recording.

I was just listening to a few Mozart piano concerti played by Daniel Barenboim and decided to listen to this piece, and once again I encountered the clear demarcation point where the Mozart era left off and The Powerhouse (Beethoven) took over! It’s something I’ve always been aware of, obviously, bc I’ve spent several decades in the performance and study of music. But every once in awhile, I get surprised in a different, deeper way by this realization....just hearing the powerful opening bars of this concerto as played by the orchestra, I understood in a fuller sense that the professional musicians of that time had to find a new set of “chops” (as is said in jazz) to master this new music, which must have felt like a sort of crisis imposed on them. And it also made what the critics of the time wrote about Beethoven’s music ever clearer....the revolution of thought and practice for the musicians must have felt like a psychological earthquake!
In _YOUR_ opinion! I guess one either understands the utter subjectivity of opinion in judging musicians, or one doesn’t. And one either appreciates the differences of technique and musical sensibility each artist brings to a piece, or one doesn’t. And then, of course, there is an aspect of this mindset which causes people to listen to other musicians only to criticize them in comparison to their favorites.
Just streamed this in recently...... wow, great heavens, what a performance!! and what terrific recording quality!! passionate without doubt. Beethoven would have loved it.
This is the one by perhaps favorite if all my CDs lovely lady Clara hadkil must have been by the photo but I the realm of the best in the world at what you do. Like the assorted tpalent onclassical arts show case priceless little photo segments public tv would put on overnight if they had the funds. between 3rd and 5th, there is 4th(G Major Op.58) which, for me, is exquisite and singular, avant-garde for its time, from the beginning to the end.

この演奏を10人にブラインドテストで聴かせたら8位人までは男性のピアニストと答えるかも知れない？。
それほど骨格と構築力に優れた男性顔負けの演奏だと思います。たとえ録音は古くても、時間を超越した、今の演奏家では聴けない『魂』の演奏┅！。
역시 클라라는 터치가 다르다. 같이 협연하면 미세한 울림과 전달하는 느낌이 좋다. 모짜르트가 더 좋다고 애기 못하겠다.
