Final Fight One is an excellent handheld conversion of the classic arcade brawler, and the content exclusive to the GBA makes it a worthwhile play for anyone that loved the original.
Started playing final fight for the first time back in 2019. Honestly really makes you respect how far beat em ups and fighting games have come. Also love that Street Fighter is connected to it and Captain Commando lol really cool! I recommend people play this game either the arcade or GBA version still VERY SOLID!
Loved this version of Final Fight. Fun way to kill time. Loved the cut scenes that were added and also Alpha Cody and Guy. Amazing how this version was much better than SNES version since this was on a handheld and also this one wasn't neatly as difficult to beat
I really miss arcade games because of the just random players you run into. I really liked seeing games at 7-11 and seeing a medic in uniform, just tiring it up in Final Fight on their lunch break, jumping in and helping them keep the streets of Metro City clean.
Man, it was a real waste of Nintendo to never release the full GBA library on 3DS so we could play greats like this and _Jackie Chan Adventures_ again. So many of the GBA's titles felt like enhanced upgrades to the SNES versions. The GBA is personally one of my favorite systems for this reason, so much so that I bought a used SP years later so I could enjoy the _Castlevania Double Pack_ again. To be 18 again...
"The music is also well remixed considering how few of the system's resources are apparently being used for audio. It sounds pretty distinctly old-school in its quality, like a beefed-up TurboGrafx-16 synth." Fun fact, the GBA uses the GB soundchip in the thing, and the GB also has a WAVE channel, which is what the PC Engine/TurboGrafx also has (except 6 channels of).
I got this Final fight muddled up with Double Dragon! I was so young when playing it I just like the game because it was the 'Fight one' get it; instead of 'right one?' He! Heeeee! I just remember ' train scenes' and 'mashing up cars,' and now you shown me which game is the 'right one!' Thanks for this 'excellent' post!
They definitely nailed the graphics, but I am not a fan of the remixed music. Impressive the number of enemies at the screen. Makes you realize how much more powerful the GBA was compared to the SNES in some areas.
I personally think that this is better than most versions of Final Fight. You got easier difficulty, multiplayer (link cable...), bonus characters that are worth unlocking, new 'cutscenes', better music (toilet gang theme tho.), color select, level select, how many lives you want, rapid fire, probably missed much more things... *you can tell I like this game.*
IMO, the ONLY other version of Final Fight I’ll play is the arcade one. And even then I’ll switch between that and the GBA one pretty frequently because I absolutely love how both of them are. They did a bang up job on this one and it was easily one of the best of the earlier GBA port jobs.
The best Final Fight games for home video consoles that I recommend are: 1. Final Fight CD (Sega Mega CD/Sega CD). 2. Final Fight 2 (Super Famicom/Super Nintendo). 3. Final Fight 3 (Super Famicom/Super Nintendo). And 4. Final Fight 4: Streetwise (PS2 and Xbox). And the best handheld version of Final Fight 1: Final Fight One (Game Boy Advance).
I agree with everything about this version of the game 🙂😁 it's really fun, while I do like the music since it grew on me *I was practically spoiled with the Sega CD version growing up, now that version was the real show stealer 😁🙂* but this was one equally impressive in its own rights, I especially love the dialogue when you play with alpha guy and alpha cody, they knew they went back in time, the controls were a dream ❤❤ very very responsive and a lot of the voice samples are intact as well.
This shows that you are a Haggar guy, I always check who prefer who in Final Fight. Alot of Final Fight fans always prefered Haggar for some reason. Usually in fighting games, the "Big Strong guy" tend to be a a niche character to play.
For me at least, I liked the temporary invulnerability that comes with using the flying piledriver. Being able to become immune to damage is good in beat 'em ups. It's why I ended up gravitating to Cherry in SoR4, who was the last character I thought I'd actually like in that.
You say you don't care about the localization changes that are present in Final Fight One, and I honestly agree with you on that - but it DOES interest me on one level, and that's the question of why they bothered doing it. It's pretty clear that at the point FFO was made, Nintendo had relaxed their standards - the female enemies had been kept in the localized Final Fight 3, you'd get an 'oh my god' here and there, and so forth - and the localization team clearly couldn't just straight-up port Billy and Sid over, among a few other things; all the facial portraits in the enemy life bars are new so they had to put specific effort into making the change. I've never been bothered by it, but even back when I first played it 'any way I could' (it'd long since gone off the shelf by the time I picked up a GBA), it seemed a weird change (along with how they moved around so many music tracks and straight-up don't play a few that are obviously still there and playable in the music test, what was up with THAT?).
Capcom probably wanted a rated E game. That’s the ONLY reason. Nintendo had nothing to do with it this time around. They could’ve easily went with it being rated T and kept all the stuff in the Japanese version intact outside of maybe some MINOR tweaks.
@@Darknight0681 Oh I agree, Nintendo clearly didn't have a thing to do with the changes; as I said, seems like they'd long since stopped caring for over half a decade at that point. You're probably right that Capcom wanted an E-rated game for... whatever reasons, though my only guess on that one is that MAYBE they weren't expecting it to do that well in the non-Japanese market in the first place and just wanted to gamble on "just rate it so that nobody's left out of the age rating"? Honestly, considering that Capcom ALSO stopped caring about the rating in later releases (I'm pretty sure every future release of Final Fight was rated T), we can probably just chalk the decisions up to the fickle whims of the higher-ups.
Although curiously the SNES version accomplishes this by simply cutting the voice clip so he says "Oh, my go-" and printing "Oh, my car!" on the screen so you just kinda assume he said that. The GBA version has a new clip altogether, so they intentionally kept the change. They also did't revert anything else to arcade even when they had to redraw stuff, so it seems their mission really was to "fix" the SNES version rather than actually port the arcade version. Although oddly enough Thrasher and Katana are back to Damnd and Sodom, which I thought had been an intentional change as both names make more sense than the arcade ones, so who knows.
@@freakyfornashi think it’s funny a lot of people don’t realize the Sega CD version in the US had changes too, some of them were the same changes on SNES. It just didn’t have as many. Like they kept Roxy and Poison, but they changed their outfits some.
I suspect the industrial level could’ve made it in the space they had. But the real problem was that the stage was ENTIRELY beyond the capability of launch window SNES. That stage in the arcade easily had the most sprites on screen at any given point and there’d be no way to bring that over without heavily altering it to the point where the stage is entirely different. Hell the Sega CD had problems with this stage, especially at the beginning with all the flames.
It’s a shame they didn’t. They could’ve fixed those games up and added some new content to them too. But I get the feeling they weren’t nearly as popular and that was the reasoning as to why they didn’t.
"all of localization changes made for the SNES version of the game are still in place here." I think the original SNES port of this changed Damnd and Sodom to Thrasher and Katana respectively and that this version uses the correct names. I guess they thought that in addition to beating up Poison and Roxy they thought we couldn't handle such names either.
@@NintendoComplete No problem. I grew up with the SNES version that took out Guy and the Factory stage so when I grew up and learned about all the changes they made it was fascinating to me. And until your playthrough of this I had no idea this version even existed! Feel like I learn something new about this series every time you return to it.
@@NintendoComplete Double Impact is probably my favorite version of it. I remember playing through it with my mom one day since she used to play the SNES version all the time when I was a kid.

Belger's animations never impressed me. He looks like they ran out of ROM space at the end and had to squeeze him into what they had left. He's just so static. Still love Jessica's transitions from trashing hostage, to casual walking cycle, to sudden fetal position.
He was actually given a new walk animation in the Super NES version. That while his wheelchair was changed into an office one, since the console versions didn't want you to get the impression you were beating on a crippled man too.

Great gameplay. Can't get enough Final Fight in my gamer life.
It's the first time I see a video about a GBA game using the real GBA colors instead of the saturated ones used by most of the emulators. Very cool!
