The look of utter confusion and then amazement from the son hearing multiple "thank you"(s) from his Pops. This daughter of an immigrant sees you Kevin!
Well said
Love the father and son cooking together.

I don't think enough people picked up on or appreciate the thank yous, it's very rare among Asian cultures, especially in that dynamic of traveling downstream with age.
More of Kevin and his dad - they're dynamite together! Great recipe too.
I learned the right way to do fried rice from the best source today ! Wish I had seen this video years ago. Thanks for the recipe👍
It would be nice if there was a written recipe, or a link to one.
@@malcolmharing3744 😅😊
Delicious
@@federalistpapers4523 the link to the recipe is in the description.
I want these two to have their own cooking show they're awesome
They do, you watched it!
Agree

They could call it "Hunger Pangs"
I know they are great.
I ADORE these two! Having married into a Chinese family, I huddled up to my tiny mother-in-law to learn her secrets. An excellent cook and a patient woman, she taught me all she could in the time we had. Maybe the Pangs can continue my education in cooking Chinese dishes well. 😊❤🎉
It's a beautiful thing, to see a father & son working together.
Just listened to the latest episode of ATK's podcast, Proof. The title is, "My Father, The UA-cam Star." Kevin talks growing up and his relationship with his father. I highly recommend it to everyone who loves Hunger Pangs!
Love that Jeffrey was open minded enough to try the recipe with an ingredient he normally never uses, and admit that he enjoyed it! For a person of his age that says a lot
Is that the Louis Vuitton of fried rice?! Shrimps, ChaSiu, mushrooms...
Love seeing the dynamics between father and son. Glad to see Kevin gave his first bowl of fried rice to his father. That is a good son! And I will try out the oyster sauce the next time I cook fried rice.
Can you freeze the rice
And if he would call his Dad Farther or Dad instead of old man to me it's so disrespectful I'm old school
@@johneccles7226 yes, you can definitely freeze it. I often buy it frozen from Costco for my kids quick dinners. Freeze in freezer bags in individual portions, so you don’t have one big lump.
How precious is this interaction. Father and son. Nice to see Test Kitchen use chefs who actually are part of the culture where the food comes from.
I like them, too but who cares where they are from, it’s just food. Stop pretending your genes decide what you can cook or not.
i agree with you in some ways but when you don't see much representation of yourself, it's nice when you do. Take care
I love that ATK is featuring Asian cooking. I replaced my cast iron wok with a carbon steel wok. Absolutely wonderful.
I took a Chinese cooking class back in the seventies. The teacher was from mainland China. She had to order our woks and wok spatulas from San Francisco because they were not available here. I still use my carbon steel wok and spatula. She is considered one of the best Chinese cooking teachers in the Washington DC Metro area. Her name is Rebekah Lin Jewel, and her excellent cookbook is The Art of Chinese cooking.
It sure looks like an Ng & Taylor wok in this video which is in my Guanxi native husband’s kitchen ;-)
This is the most wholesome sweet segment. Love it! More Hungry Pangs, please!!
Dad gets a thumbs up!
Great chemistry between Father and Son!
You're a good son!!!!! serving dad first!!!!
This is fast becoming one of my new favorite series! Hope they can keep on doing more!
Best duo ever on America’s Test Kitchen!
Love this. Great to see a father and son doing things together like cooking. My husband and son would go golfing together. Makes for great memories and sets the example for the next generation.
I use this video to make my fried rice and love the result. A similar fried rice dish I also make comes from a coworker from long ago from Picayune, Mississippi. He would use bacon grease as his oil (already changes the flavor profile). Leftovers from a meal (cooked chicken or turkey etc) onion, green pepper, celery (trinity), bacon, tomatoes, and cooked egg. Season with the soy sauce and serve with Louisiana hot sauce. Total bliss!
Loved the interaction between father and son!❤️😂❤️
I was so pleased to see son serve father first. a lesson for us all.
I feel like this is an equivalent of holding the flashlight while your dad works on the car
So glad to see this duo back for another recipe. I really like that they explain why they chose certain ingredients and why they prepped them a certain way.
The sprinkle of the rice was a better technique to break up the clumps instead of dumping it in all at once. I like my rice on the drier side too. Enjoyed watching the teamwork. Thank you!
Uh 9
Totally agree. Sprinkling the rice into the wok was a game changer for me!

I just happened to find the Chinese fried recipe. Looks great and I'm gonna try it this week. This is my favorite channel and I tried many of their recipes. I trust them! Thank you
Is there a link to the recipe
I love the “Hunger Pangs” video series. Keep them coming!
Kevin, you are so lucky to cook with your dad.
My mom died of breast cancer, and I tried to get recipes from her, but she just couldn't be specific enough to (a young) me. "You know, some of this" and "add until it 'looks' right" kind of directions; as a lad, I just couldn't "get" it.
Enjoy your time w/dad. Seriously.
Beautiful. And the cultural meme is enchanting. Makes me think about how my dad made me watch him replace a window sash 65 years ago.
Watching dad and son in the kitchen cooking really warmed my heart. Generations passing down their knowledge and dad telling son off a bit in the process--priceless lol. We definitely need more of this.
--as often as possible😋👍
It is the Chinese way. My father did the same for me.
Thank you for this nice recipe presentation. Most local people in Hawaii grew up eating fried rice as a way to use up leftover rice. We used Spam in the absence of char siu or shrimp and also other leftover meats like chicken or steak. Thank you Pang family for a delicious looking meal.
My dad also uses Spam in fried rice. I found that Jack Daniels Honey Pork Ribs is the closest thing to char siu for fried rice.
@@y.h.b.4379 I'll have to try that, thanks! My husband (a haole boy from the mainland) makes great char siu, but it's not something you can whip up quickly so having an alternative will help.
When I use spam, I also use diced pineapple. I pre-fry the pineapple so it doesn't add too much moisture, so they end up being like little gems that burst out juice when you get one in your spoon
Spam onolicious
@@darkelfling65 Ooh, thanks! I happen to have a couple of small containers with pineapple in my freezer. That would be good with pork or chicken too
Watching Hunger Pangs is not only a cooking class but it is humorous and respectful. Thank you!
I could eat platefuls of this while watching hours of these two cooking.
More Chinese cooking videos please! I appreciate the authenticity and pronouncing ingredients in Cantonese and Mandarin! I would love for the Pangs to invite other Chinese professionals to demonstrate hand pulled noodles or how to make soup dumplings. Keep up the great content!
Why is the pronunciation a big deal?
It’s nice to see a dad and son enjoying each other’s company. Looks delicious 😋
Ah! This is my favorite episode of ATK ever!
That day when we finally realize how smart our fathers are is a very important day in a mans life. Thanks for sharing this video, Charles
Love their dynamic. Dad is so cute. Let’s see more videos with them please!
Another great Chinese recipe. I love this new show, it is fun and touching to see the father Jeffrey and son Kevin cooking together, I am sure many of us wish we still could.

I love fried rice! I like to add fresh ginger and little bit of toasted sesame seed oil to mine. This was a great recipe but I mostly enjoyed watching father and son cooking together 🥰 Thanks for sharing!
This father and son combination was awesome. The rice looked amazing and the show was at least as good. Thanks!
‘
“You are a good son.”
Ahh!
I like a tiny bit of toasted sesame oil in mine and I like some shredded cabbage in it. I usually use a small handful of slaw mix because it has the carrot in it already. For protein we usually go with chicken.
Isn’t that just one of the best things about fried rice? You can pretty much put in whatever the heck you want.😊😊😊
Jeff and Kevin so great to see you both, father and and son cooking together...Simple, practical recipe and delish! Thanks to Pang Family for the yummy Yummy Fried Rice Catherine packed for my lunch!!!

Kevin and his Dad. "cooking" Who woulda thought they were such a great team. I also want to learn how to make CHAR SIU.
I have said this before, but this father and son team are pure gold. I could watch a video from them every day for the rest of my life and I’d be happy.
So fun watching these two cook together!
These guys have a great on screen dynamic
A proud papa having a good time with his son; bravo!
Kevin has that silky smooth announcer voice going on.
Please do more videos with Jeffrey and Kevin. They are too cute :) I like my fried rice with a lot of green onions, eggs, diced pork, soy sauce, and a little hoisin sauce for sweetness. I'll definitely try the oyster sauce though, that sounds delicious.
@Janet Seidlitz. Where do u find hoisin sauce?
@@laraoneal7284 I got my last bottle from Amazon, but most grocery stores carry some. It is usually near the soy sauces.
I had a friend from China who invited me and the kids over for dinner. She was such a lovely girl and I learned so much about her culture. But she cooked everything! There were beef dishes, fish, chicken, pork, and of course fried rice. She showed me how to fix it, but I was never able to get it as good as hers. She had to have cooked all week for this one dinner. SO good!
Shouldn't have watched this until after a meal. I soooo hungry for this rice. Sounds incredibly delicious! Thank you.
Love the father and son interaction. Pays to pay attention to our mother and father. They have delicious recipes. Thank you for sharing this one. Looks so easy and delicious! :)
Thank you for having the Pangs on again
What a sweet father son relationship
I made this rice following the Pang's recipe. I will never buy fried rice in a restaurant knowing I can make it this well at home. I bought the char Sui at a restaurant since I don't know how to prepare it. I will make it again and substitute pulled chicken for the char Sui. To Kevin & Jeffrey.....well done!
My husband said this was the best fried rice he has ever tasted when I made it. THANKS!!!
I wish every recipe was so well explained and documented. Well done!

Such an Asian thing, the son always serves the father (or any elder person) before scooping his own rice. Shows great upbringing. And the rice looks fantastic. 😁😁😁
I love watching these two cook together. So wholesome!
I loved this so much! I can watch this Father & Son duo cook all day long!... ❤❤❤

I love you 2! I miss cooking with my father especially our Greek cuisine. 🕊💙
I agree 100% with Jessie's comment. I love watching them interact. You can see the love they have for one another.
I do intend to make this fried rice. It looks so good.
Thank you for all that you do.

If you don't have a gas stove, no problem. I have to deal with a flat ceramic stove, don't like it but it doesn't stop me. I use a big non-stick skillet with no problem. Also zucchini is cheap in my area and love the texture of it in this and curries.
Same here-- flat cooktop and big nonstick skillet ( maybe 14 inches)..... no complaints so far. Would I prefer gas? Yes, I honestly would. But there’s almost always a way to make things work.😊
@@trae4529 Yes, agreed. I hate appliances that "do the thinking for you". Nothing like a gas flame, or even the electric coils so you can see for yourself how hot it is. I had to look and look for a coffee maker without a computer. My washing machine decides to run itself randomly, with no clothes. But as you say, we make due.
Love the family bickering, stories and interactions from these two! I need more videos from this father/son duo please.
I was happy to see the eggs cooked separately, and then added back in later. I have seen so many videos for fried rice where they add the eggs at the beginning, and then just keep adding ingredients to the same wok. There is no way you can avoid overcooking the eggs if they are in the wok the entire time. It is also nice to see Kevin cooking with his Dad. My girls used to love cooking with me when they were little, but now they are 20 something and only want to cook recipes that they find on Buzzfeed, which are usually awful, yet appealing because they are all made "in a cup" or "in a muffin tin." Kevin gives me hope that my daughters may come to their senses in their 30s.😂
How wonderful cooking with your father. Thanks chaps and take care.
Father and son chemistry with these two is great. Two very fun personalities, and really great recipe.
Aww, these guys are so sweet. I loved when the son helped his dad lift the heavy wok, and then the dad says "okay thank you".
At the end, I was worried that the son was going to serve himself first, and then he gave his dad the first plate. I sighed with relief. Even his dad was worried and when he received the plate he pretty much congratulated him on his manners say "oh you're a good son".
Reminds me of my dad. Maybe it's a generational thing, but my dad would have looked at me weird too if I dared serve myself before him. Gotta love family, and respect the hierarchy.
Super cute! 🥰
Also, great tip on using day old white rice! I'm so making this today (minus the meats and mushrooms). I have a 6 year old's food palet, 😆👍
“ I’m winning over my dad. This is a victory for me. “ 😄😄 Looks so delicious!
I immediately like you guys. You answer all these awesome questions I wouldn't of known to ask but need to know.
Dude you are so lucky to have something in common with your dad. Long live the memories.
They do work very well together! Kudos!!! Great father and son moment!!! 😁

That father is a national treasure. LOVE HIM.🥰
Love these two
8:58 More Hunger Pangs please! Thanks for a great show ATK's Kevin and dad Jeffrey! A big win for sons everywhere to have dad agree so often and readily! BTW, I've frying rice for years and still learned LOTS from this segment. Especially this trick of sprinkling cold rice! Keep up the good work!
I’m so glad that my Queen sent me to Hong Kong for three years, the genuine street food was amazing. 🤤
Your Dad is Precious. Love you two together. So humble 🥰
As a first gen American, the first 5 seconds cracked me up. So relatable! 🤣
Please keep this series going. I would love to learn how to make more Chinese dishes.
Lovely dad, lovely son, great, fun recipe.
I eat out more than cook. Cooking the egg before it's added to rice, is something I never thought of. Thank you.🙋
Love the father and son cooking together! You always can learn something !😁👍👍😉
Father and Son cooking together !! Absolutely awesome. I have just subscribed. Thanks for a great video.
The both of you together makes me smile, wish my dad was around
Awesome teamwork guys! No screaming, no homicide, just good food!👍👍👍
I like the logical progression of the ingredients being prepped and added. I've never had the Chinese dried mushrooms, but they won't be hard to find in San Francisco.
Cathy hello, I have NOTlooked in recent trips, but COSTCO carried bags of dried SHITACHI MUSHROOMS, Just like they used, boiling water to reconcstitue them, cheers🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
They're not hard to find in Arizona either. I'm 40 miles from the nearest Asian grocery store, but found them locally at Sprouts.
i even find them at Lucky's.
in SF's Chinatown they sell them loose and they're less expensive. buy a bunch, they keep forever.
We're vegetarians, so we usually have tofu for the protein and whatever vegetables are left over in the fridge. We've never cooked the egg first--we'll try that now! Thanks for the tips.
This was a FANTASTIC video! I am retired and cooking now for my wife and I. The videos on UA-cam have been extremely helpful and since i love Chinese food, it has really helped. Fried rice was my downfall, but you have given me confidence to cook it this way and I can't wait to try this! Thank-you both!
his dad is right, you can put anything you see in your fridge for fried rice. in Indonesia people can eat fried rice everyday for breakfast. cheap and good.I like to put the egg together when I stir fry the rice so can get coated with the rice.never seen with dry mushroom before
I might try it next time.i enjoyed your video, thanks Pangs family.
Love this duo
Love their dynamic. Excited to keep learning from these two.
"Of course I washed my hands" he said, after just wiping his mouth with his hand. Funny. And instructive... on how to avoid conflict with your dad. Thanks.
Love the dynamics of father and son
Wow looked so easy to make and so delicious,,,makes me hungry...Love you and Dad cooking together, your respect is admirable..love🇿🇦
Thanks for sharing the making of fried rice. Father and son working together; how cool is that.
That was really heartwarming, the exchange between you & your father! Certainly as you know life & how it goes - it is all about respect! I'm sure you were both, (challenging?) to work with at times - but it seems now you get along quite well, & father really appreciates you acting as his very demure & efficient helper! I always had same trouble, trying to be too good - it pisses them off! Though we good, & THINK we got it all down, we really do not.... Great job both of you anyway, & all Love to You & Father.
I am of the belief that the best food comes from mums, grandmums, or in this case, fathers. Food is about sharing family traditions, old recipes, and bringing loved ones together. Great tutorial.
