    I think you make some great points in this video Ira - it’s really informative and educational, and the fact is, some people out there are simply unaware of what some sellers do. I called it out on a video of mine last year as well. I think you’re great for posting this. ❤

    I think the main point is that Etsy is supposed to be a platform for handmade items, not drop shipping mass produced items. And especially at such high markups. There are other platforms for that. I feel Ira charges fair prices, but remember that exchange rates can really skew the price. I’m in America and the prices reflect the exchange rate. I really appreciate Ira’s ethics and his quality control. And shipping to certain countries can be very expensive. I get it Ira and I’m on board. I heard no shaming at all 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I would not engage with trolls who do not get the purpose of this video. Basically, some sellers on Etsy sell items purchased from other manufacturers and sell them at a ridiculous markup. So beware. Ira I have purchased several products from your Etsy store and everything I have received has been of great quality. Your prices are reasonable and your work is absolutely fabulous! And I will continue to purchase from your store as long as you continue to provide great products. Looking forward to your new collection. Thank goodness I have an Amazon Prime/Etsy sinking fund😀

    Totally, agree, I am more then happy to pay premium price for handmade envelopes or vinyl , but not for the binders which is from Temu or AliExpress. And now there are zipless envelopes in white or pink which also form China , but sellers claiming they are handmade.

      You asked why I bought from Ira when I think the prices could be a little bit too high. The fact of the matter is I was supporting his Etsy shop. I actually respect him and I love his channels, but I do think his prices are quite a bit higher! If you actually look at the income, he makes from Etsy you know that he is selling higher And getting more of a payout which I’m not saying is a bad thing because everybody wants to make a profit. You have to take into consideration that those of us who use free shipping are actually putting our shipping cost into our product cost. If we don’t do that then we’d be killed on shipping and make no profit. The items that we do buy, for those of us who are actually hand making items, Actually have to pay for our supplies then we have to take the time to make the item and package the item and ship the item out not to mention some of us do have gas cost to go to and from the post office. For me, I actually shipped from my house and most of the Etsy shippers. Also have this at their luxury where we don’t have to go out to the post office And pay for gas for transportation back-and-forth. I do like Ira and I respect him and I respect his channel, but I just thought that this video just wasn’t the right video. I guess I’m not sure. I just feel like he came at Etsy shop owners a little bit harder than I thought. I’m not saying he didn’t make a good Statement when some people are blowing prices out of proportion and I’ve seen that on Etsy myself, but I also urge people to go to Amazon and other platforms if they cannot forward with the Etsy, sellers are selling their items for. There are other ways to custom design your own items without all the mumbo-jumbo prices that are listed on Etsy that are very high! I have looked at a few shops and was shocked to see what they were selling the items for when I can sell them so much cheaper and actually do!

    I find this very interesting. Earlier this year or maybe December I got an email from Etsy with a survey about the term "handmade". I don't know why because I am not a huge purchaser or anything but I am the type that loves a good survey so I took it. Much of it was what I perceived the definition of "handmade" to mean. It went through many options and scenarios having me chose between say a hand knitted hat and something that obviously came in bulk with MAYBE a few additions. Like in my opinion which one should be called handmade. It also had questions like how much had to actually be done by the seller to be labeled "handmade". I don't know if they are trying to rebrand themselves to separate themselves from that term? I know there has been lots of negative talk about the obvious sellers of nothing special , nothing added to it bulk items. My opinion is if I can find something on 5 other sites exactly the same and the Etsy shop hasn't done anything to add value or personalize it in some way I will not buy from them. To me that isn't what Etsy should be.

    Really interesting video Ira, as an Etsyshop owner, I used to stock binders which I sold with my own inserts, however due to the cost of them as I’m not big enough to order wholesale I did have to have personalised binder at a higher price. With packaging and time for personalisation it was they only way to make a profit. So due to that I no longer sell binders, only trackers and inserts. Please be careful when you do videos like this as some of us as just trying to make a small business work, and people may not understand how to spot a bulk seller from a real local small business on Etsy ❤

You decide with your feet……thank you Ira for just making it clear, I personally at one point was short of cash when I first came across the budgeting community. I spent a pretty penny I could Ill afford at the time. I would have appreciated this video to help me get on my journey in a cheaper way until I saved more up to buy the luxury handmade items. And I understand that and I see that happen a lot on Etsy myself! If they’re not handmade and their mark is handmade, it can be a problem. If I buy binders, I actually put things in there that I have custom-made to bulk up binders. I don’t sell them as a binder that I just purchased. I actually add things to binders that I actually purchased.

    I’ve got a Cricut so I’ve always created my own decals for my cash stuffing things and bought the items cheap from AliExpress or Temu. I’ve made personalised ones for friends and family (as gifts) but I’ve always been horrified what people have paid for items from ‘budget’ stores. Every budget binder I’ve ever made has cost me less than £5 in total and it’s been personalised for each person.

    At budget with Ira, Ira I understand what you’re getting it and what you’re saying, but for those of us, including yourself or Etsy Seller, you have to increase prices to cover not only the shipping cost for those of us who sell items with free shipping, the cost of the item and also the time it takes to put maybe some additional items into things such as binders or anything else. There was a time a while back I got a custom-made order from you. You charged me over $30 for literally some slips of I don’t remember if it was card stock or paper because I didn’t even use the item but it was something I probably should’ve only paid a few bucks for and all I wanted was the dice game without the binder without all the dice and things and you charge me well over 30 bucks for it, and that was extreme in price! I didn’t leave you a bad rating and I didn’t return the item. In fact I didn’t leave and leave you a rating at all. I was disappointed that I was charged so much for something that you just printed off and sold me! I wouldn’t be slamming other Etsy shops and I surely wouldn’t be going after people when I’m sure that the items that you’re getting probably are not expensive in price either I have gone over and viewed your shop and was Altered to see how expensive some of your items are that I know for a fact that you’re getting a lot of income on. I don’t think this video is appropriate now this is my opinion. In my opinion only I’m not disrespecting you or what anybody else on here has to say but supply and demand of course people could just run over to Etsy and buy what they want or they can go to Amazon and get things so much cheaper as well. People have options are where they want to go and they have the right to choose where they wanna go and if they want to support a shop who sells higher and items then they can if they’re willing to pay the price for it that’s fine if they want to go to Alibaba or another site, they can do so as well if they want to mass order things and sell it for a higher price that is what consumer is all about! Two thumbs down on this video

    • @cwang011
      @cwang011 4 місяці тому +9

      I think you’re missing the point. There’s a difference between purchasing marked up items that are dropshipped and mass produced and marketing them as “handmade” versus purchasing products that are well-designed and CUSTOM made which means the designer had to take the time to create slips or specific cash envelopes. There’s a difference between a generic 100 Envelope Binder from AliExpress vs one made by Ira or even other budget shops that take the time to design or have them manufactured from their own designs. Like as a store owner, there’s nothing wrong with buying these generic products in mass from AliBaba, but I would take the time to modify them with at least some custom design work or custom budget sheets before marking up the price on them substantially. Ira is merely telling people that there are cheaper options for certain generic products which is especially helpful to those starting out as they might not have a budget for more expensive budgeting products but will want a cute, sparkly binder. And he didn’t even self promote or tell people to buy HIS products instead. And that level of honesty and transparency is why I trust Ira and invest in his products. Very informative video!

      @@cwang011 I completely understand if people are marking them up as handmade even if they’re not handmade I am not in agreement with that either. I agree with you there but what I’m saying is he’s taking it a little bit too far from my personal understanding now what I understand and what somebody else may interpret could be two different things that’s why I said no disrespect to him and no disrespect to others. But what I’m saying is by marking things up too high I did purchase a set of the seven dice set from Ira a while back I used it as a giveaway on my channel. They were laminated card stock and I got charged $35 which is a massive markup and a ridiculous price to pay, but I did pay for it because I used it as a giveaway on my channel. I had bought several things from Ira, which I used as giveaways on my channel, but when he talks about marking things up to high if you look at his shop yourself, you’ll see he’s got a lot of things that are pretty damn high price and he has a right to do so but come down on other Etsy shop owners for the same thing, I think it’s completely wrong. I’m only speaking my mind and I’m trying to do it in a respectful way because I do respect Ira and I love his videos a lot but when it comes to the Etsy shop side of things if you look at how much money he really makes he’s definitely marking up his prices as well! Thank you so much for the comment completely in respectful to what you had to say

Not everybody has the income to have things professionally printed, and professionally printed is not cheap either! I wasn’t saying that I didn’t like the quality of your items. I did say that some of them are a little bit more expensive that even my liking however you have a right to price your items in anyway that you want to price I do think that there are some Etsy shops that are definitely over pricing their items, but we also know that Etsy is going to take a portion of the cells and we have a listing fee not to mention we do need to make a profit off of our items, but I’m thinking that you’re right people don’t need to gouge people into buying items but then again people need to do their research and find out what best works for them because Amazon sells a lot of really good items for budgeting and they’re super low budget cost for people! When I do something, I add extra things into it and if I buy binders off Amazon, which is what I do, I definitely add on extras to it to bulk up the item to make it
