I hate to say it, but you probably should have let the other callers in your pileup know that you were only taking one call, rather than just leave them waiting for you to finish your call and then hanging up the mic. Am I wrong?
Good evening sir, and very good advice, this was my rookie mistake I understand now to specify which station I'm going to take next, this lets everyone know to try back again, great advice and I appreciate the help '73 sir de KI5JUF
As you're probably aware, HF frequencies are not channelized and because we transmit sideband audio with zero carrier (actually a very highly suppressed carrier) the receiver has no carrier information to lock on to. The receiving operator has to 'guess' what frequency to tune to by the sound of the callers voice. This is less than ideal and relies on best-guess to tune to the other stations frequency. Some operators would be better than others at this. To take the guesswork out of it, Amateurs tend to call CQ on whole, or sometimes half KHz frequencies. 7123.00KHz and 7146.50KHz are random examples of this or 28470.00KHz as seen in this video. If we all meet on the whole, or sometimes half KHz, it takes the guesswork out of it. It's not a rule either, but it's good practice on HF SSB. Think of it like this; It's like a landscape of hills and valleys and we all agree to meet up on the hills. I hope this helps, John EI5JS

@@johnc3403 This is a novice "problem" wich didn't exsist in the 70-ties when you did listen with you ears not with you eyes. Anyway, thanks for your reply.

JA3JHT was calling CQ on the frequency when you said "someone is on here let's see if I can get him" so you clearly heard someone but then called CQ. Not a great example for new operators. Listen Listen Listen
Can't hear you over the static
Turn off the fricken background music!!! If I wanted music, I’d turn on the radio!!!
