There is no other person on the planet that can have a conversation with an artist, talk about the most traumatizing situations, all while feeling comfortable and heard!! Allison Hagendorf is the BEST!!!!!! 🔥🔥
Jamie, I cannot thank you enough for sharing this. This is the epitome of what I set out to do so please know how much this means to me. Thank you for being part of the show and for taking the time to share this meaningful feedback with me. XOXOXOXOXO
Thank you for speaking out, Deryck. This stuff needs to be talked about. I’m a fellow survivor myself. You deserve all the happiness and success in the world.
Such a great interview. It’s insane hearing him talk about how disappointed he was with the lack of success underclass hero had, where that’s probably my favourite sum 41 album and influenced me and my music so much. Same with screaming bloody murder. I think that’s one of the greatest records of all time, but also one of those very slept on albums. Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for my life, Deryck. Hopefully we can write together soon.🤘🏼
As someone who saw Sum 41 right before Deryck was sick, the first tour after, and most recently on the farewell tour, I couldn’t be more proud of him and the way he’s truly written his own story. Ps. This might be the best interview with Deryck that I’ve ever seen. You rule.
It's crazy how there are so many times that he shares a quote, or mannerism, or saying of some sort, and I can immediately hear a line from a Sum 41 song. Goes to show how much he puts of himself into his music - and how authentic that voice is. Even at the beginning, when he's talking about writing the book himself, it was just like "Oh yeah, that's the guy who wrote 'Some Say' " because the story came from the same place. Amazing story for Sum41. There was drama, there was good and bad, ups and downs...but god damnit they made it and not many other bands can say that. Well done, Sum 41, it's been real.
I just finished reading the book and I totally agree - when I was reading it, I felt like Deryck was reading it in my head, could hear every word in his voice. So strange and cool at the same time
We love Deryck so much! ❤ He is so raw and genuine. It takes A LOT to come out publicly and talk about all those traumas … he is so brave and loved so much! ❤
Killer Interview again, So happy Derek made it through the other side & is in a better place. Allison Hagendorf once again you create a safe environment for people to feel relaxed enough to open up and share their stories which they normally wouldn't do. Thank you for that. Keep Rocking & Rolling \m/
Amazing interview!! Deryck is incredible and humble and honest and he’s gone through a lot but to still be as nice and positive and optimistic about life and everything, it is truly remarkable that he made it through and has all the success and he deserves it all. Thank you for all the music and memories, I’m forever a Sum 41 fanatic 🤘🏻🔥❤️ #THESUMS 🤣
I came across this , and you just today. Happily subscribed, and this interview was incredible. The level of empathy , and all around comfort is beautiful to watch shine through !
@@dariamagdalena1265 I am Smiling ear to ear reading your beautiful comment. Thank you so much for sharing this. I pride myself in leading with warmth, compassion, empathy, and listening! This means so much to me. It’s wonderful to connect! ❤️
Wow! Fantastic @AllisonHagendorf. I really love your interviews ! They sound like natural conversations, which makes them a blast to watch and listen :) you are amazing !
I love how prepared and real you are. You ask excellent questions and you actually listen. I hadn't heard of you previously. I'm so glad I stumbled a across your channel. You have a new sub. Thrilled to be here!
I'm glad he's better and in a better place. I remember reading about his hospital admission with his drinking. I wasn't the biggest Sum41 fan but I felt bad for the dude. Probably was not in a good place and needed some help. Much respect.
When I was younger I got bright on stage to play guitar at a sum 41 show. Unfortunately there was some tech issue and the sound was all over the place. I got booed off stage (I know their first few albums inside out). I was suicidal over this as this was a dream scenario for me that went horribly wrong. I’ve tried to reach out to Deryck to say how much this affected me but no luck. Always wanted to fix that moment.
Ye, it really affected me. Was like a moment you dream of your whole life … then it turns into a nightmare. It’s always hung over me. I’ll never be able to fix it.
Don't give up. They are touring again. Stay persistant in contacting them and go to the front of their next concert. Also make your peace with it. Tech issues happen, if people boo, it's not your fault or any slight on you. and you know that. If you don't get to play guitar on stage with them, maybe post a video on youtube of you playing their song or songs. Don't let it haunt you forever. Life is to be lived and enjoyed.
Wow. Allison, this is an absolutely fantastic interview!! This is by far the most revelatory interview Deryck has ever done and that speaks volumes about your style, your research, and your calm, empathetic, but fun persona. Deryck is truly a remarkable, stubbornly persistent man. He has such a great outlook on life despite all that's happened to him. I can't believe that he was also a victim of sexual abuse, by his own manager, who was also a rock star. As an impressionable teenager, I can only imagine how confusing and traumatic that would be, let alone having it come from someone you idolized and entrusted to guide you through success. And then to hear on top of that that Greig was a greedy bastard and tried to get 50% publishing on In Too Deep, Fat Lip, and all their early hits...seriously, I will never listen to Treble Charger again after this...I do wish he got more into his relationship with Steve. I hope they can eventually mend their differences, but sounds like Deryck is pretty happy and content no matter what happens there. All in all, good for him! Takes a lot of guts to completely put himself out there and totally put this chapter in his life to bed. Now he's turning the page. Wishing him, Ari, and little Lydon and Quentin nothing but peace and happiness from here on out! ❤❤❤ Allison, you are amazing!! Keep up the great work!! 🤘
i support Deryck! He is a super fun/funny guy and shouldnt be ashamed. It's never your fault because other people do bad things to you, you are bigger than anything someone could do to you. Like Jesus being crucified didnt stop him from being a good person. Apparently hollywood attracts some power abusing type people but that's to be expected in a field that makes so much money so fast.

I feel so sorry for Deryck. All he wanted was a Dad and that Nori guy (like all predators) used that to wheedle his way into his mind/heart.
Excellent interview. What an interesting & resiliant dude.

That's pretty heavy, but things happen like that.

We all get lessons to learn and then get a memory wipe and get to do it all over again! SICK!
