a superb bike, does it all and the pilion seat is usable unlike the new incarnations . I had this bike all over Scotland and never missed a beat. great on the twistys and can do a long haul if needed. Loved that Bike...
I bought a 1997 model for 999$ as my first bike and I couldn’t be more satisfied. Best looking bike and it has more than enough power. 60 000km on the clock, still rides very well and the paint looks as good as new. A lot of people are impressed by its look for a 1997 model lol.
This was the first fast bike I bought at 18. Before that I owned a Virago 650. Surprisingly I never wrecked it or laid it down. Mine was a 1995 model but looked the same as this one. I think racing motocross most my teen years helped in controlling all the power.
You're not wrong, the bike still surprisingly gets a lot of attention! A young guy the other day wanting to get his licence was sure it wasn't older than 5 years. Mileage of a modern bike, light for it's time, reliable, torquy for a 600, comfortable yet fast...and cheap...best deal ever!
I Have a 99g2 fantastic bike 19000 miles no tps nice old style 600 sports bike and excellent allrounder uncomplicated and fast, and reasonable insurance for a 160 mph bike, excellent value for money.
All the 600s from around 2000 were awesome bikes, before they went full track bike mode. One of the best bike i have ever ridden was an Ex Ten Kate WSS 2001 CBR600FS, the guy had bought it off Ten Kate when they went to the RR, and made it road legal. That thing was so dialled in, and FAST.
I had one of these G1 ZX6R's brilliant looking bike, very comfy but having owned pretty much all of the 90's sportsbikes. I would say the R6 5EB(98-99) is the more revvy, light racing sort of bike, the CBR 600 F3 models have a fantastic sound, bullet proof engine, in my opinion a better bike than this ZX6R unfortunately... However for me the GSXR 600 SRAD (97-00) is the best 90's 600cc sportsbike to buy... I have owned 3 of them bikes and the handling is the best, the brakes are decent if they have braided lines ect, it works well with k&n filters and a dyno jet. Brilliant bikes... Yes its probably the most uncomfortable out of all of them but aslong as your below 5ft9 you wont be cramped up too much... Im 5ft8 and it fits me like a glove.. Ive also had old fireblades and zx9r but for a 600 the gixxer srad and CBR600 F3 wins it for me... The kawasaki induction howl is just beautiful though 110%
Seems you know what you're talking about sir. I remember in the 90s specialized press comparing this ZX-6R with the rest of the Japanese. At its release it took the overall score crown from the CBR600, undisputed queen till the arrival of that howling Ninja. BTW I own the black '99 model. I eventually got tired of the racing (not so much actually) position. I'm more into classic nakeds. Gonna go soon for a today's SV650, a modern classic also dating from late 90s ;)
Have currently a G1 and G2 great bikes . Had a J1 and A1P 636 in the past . My G2 now 20 years old has an engine upgrade to a 2002 A1P 636 fits straight in with ignition advancer , dyna jet kit,k&n filter and remus end can Must be putting out 110bhp at the back wheel and is very fast even compared to the newer bikes . They are still cheap at the moment Going to upgrade to the under seat exhaust ZX6R but will never sell my Gs
swipped my girfriends gmail account just to comment on this bike, here goes firstly totally awesome machine light and nimble and ruffly 6 mph faster than all other 600s in its class,no joke this bike with a decent can will top out at 170mph,very reliable good for touring 2up as well, and even when you thrash the puds of her she is still good on juice, and she loves to be ridden hard, realy sings between 130 and160,you can say anything you want about this bike but you will never get a better 600 supersport,a bike of dreams.......go buy one
no top speed standard is 166 check Wikipedia, but with a decent exhaust ans k&n air filter she well defo do 170,they a great bike ,try get with lowest miles possible, the only thing that goes wrong with them is cam chain ajusters but that's an easy fix, also I saw a you tube vid with the zxr6 raceing the zxr9 and up to 130 they are neck n neck, honestly the zxr 6 g model is an awesome piece of kit
Bought a 99 zx6r off one of my friends for $400 when he bought his Harley and still have not ridden it because the secondary coils are frien and discontinued.... why there isnt a direct cross-over from another bike ill never know but this has been the biggest pain ever
You've probably figured this issue out by now, but if somehow you haven't, I had the same problem. There is a number of replacement options on ebay, but the one I recommend is the ones made by dynatek. There's also the option of retrofitting the coil over boot setup found on the early 2000s models, which I've heard good things about.
Lol saw my own comment, i rebuilt it and its still going strong 2 years later! Ive ridden it for 2 hours at 150mph across the state(a few times). Its bulletproof 😎
Tate Mushroom nothing wrong with high milage as long as you have documents and proof of a well looked after bike then that milage is low for a 1998 bike.
M. Watson, i think exactly the same way! 1996-2003 motorcycle are the best looking bike ever! The ZX-6r 1998-99 is a beautiful bike. I had a 1997 CBR-F3 and a 2001 Zx-9r. Now I have a 2003 ZX-7r, a 1998 Cbr900rr, 2006 Rc51 and i will never exchange them for newest bike. And they are much more comfortable than the newest bike. Its cool to drive on a track but i do 90% on the road like everyone i think. I think i will get one of those beautiful green 1999 Zx-6r. Here in Canada i can get one for 1500$ , 30k Kilo. You're my kind of rider! I look at your UA-cam profile picture but the pic is too small. I think its a 2001 Zx6r right?
Pete Mitchell Modern sport bikes are too thin for my liking. I'm 21 and I love, absolutely adore the older bulkier bikes from the 90's and early 2000's.
Had a J1 Bloody amazing bike, done tones of miles,so reliable,ex R1, ZX-10R rider, this bike is the tits. It started like new every time, and i'm talkin' 50,000 plus miles!
Yep euro5 emissions and lack of sales have killed the screaming 600s, in another 10 or so years hipsters will be making UA-cam vids on how to make god awful "cafe racers" and "bobbers" out of them :-(
I own one for my daily ride to work, currently has 95,000KM on the clock and still going strong. Can't go wrong with this bike
Thanks for the info! I1m thinking about buying one right now for 1500 euros.
My college just bought the very same model with only 15.000 miles on the clock. Still looks sporty in 2022 👍🇩🇰
a superb bike, does it all and the pilion seat is usable unlike the new incarnations .
I had this bike all over Scotland and never missed a beat. great on the twistys and can do a long haul if needed.
Loved that Bike...
I currently ride a '95 ZX-6R and I love it! :)

Am I wrong in saying this bike is way sexier than most modern bikes?

Nope, love it
Hell yes I think it is the best looking sport bike ever.
And I'm not really into sport bikes.
I love that nineties style.
I like it better than the way today’s sports bikes look.
New bikes just look fucking weird, especially the non sports bikes, they just look over styled and fussy.
I just bought one with 44k miles on for £1100 loving it! Still going strongb
I have one best bike I ever owned...I top it out at 162mph fast little 6 to b as old as it is...love my 99 zx6r

I just found a '98 Ninja zx6R on CL with only 2400 miles for $2100. Good deal?

I'm getting one of these this weekend, you've driven this bike that fast? I read online top speed was 142 seems slow to me but this bike is old.
no top speed standard is 166 check Wikipedia, but with a decent exhaust ans k&n air filter she well defo do 170,they a great bike ,try get with lowest miles possible, the only thing that goes wrong with them is cam chain ajusters but that's an easy fix, also I saw a you tube vid with the zxr6 raceing the zxr9 and up to 130 they are neck n neck, honestly the zxr 6 g model is an awesome piece of kit
It tops out around 160. A 90's 600 can't reach 170 stop being daft
@@jamesharris3731 Are you guys talking mph or kph? 170 mph is fucking crazy on a normal road, you guys are insane.
@@jamesharris3731 Exactly what I was thinking. 170 mph my behind, hahaha. Maybe 155 mph if that.
Just got mine!!!

Had one of these, ripper little bike👌
Just picked one up for 900 bucks, im posting some vids of it. I just rebuilt the carbs
Lol saw my own comment, i rebuilt it and its still going strong 2 years later! Ive ridden it for 2 hours at 150mph across the state(a few times). Its bulletproof 😎
Craigslist 26,000 miles for 1500$ should I buy it. everything is in order
No it is a good bike but 25k miles on it keep looking
Tate Mushroom nothing wrong with high milage as long as you have documents and proof of a well looked after bike then that milage is low for a 1998 bike.
Tate Mushroom 1,150 miles a year mmm most do 4k a year avg so that bike is well within a low milage bike.
Buy it i got one
I just bought a 97 with 12k for $2600. Pretty decent shape. Bit over NADA, but only by a few $ so I wasn’t to upset.
looks great, fiery little thing
can the rear tail fairing fit on 03 zzr600? please help would like to swap
Look better than the new bikes weather it's a ninja gsx or cbr or r6 new bikes look like insects

older bikes are more candy for the eyes ^^
💯
Well iffy cornering at 3:58
+StNige And at 3:38 lol
great review ta
When will this come out?
My wife was looking at one today and she said that she is taking the license only if she gets one of these
Green one's are faster 😉
It's the law
Had a J1 Bloody amazing bike, done tones of miles,so reliable,ex R1, ZX-10R rider, this bike is the tits. It started like new every time, and i'm talkin' 50,000 plus miles!
the red one is also sexy as hell
Hi Mr can oplode zxr 6 old changes injection

+Tim Goldsmith i am 6ft 3 and have owend 1 of these and found it very comfortable
check out 6foot4 Hondas channel haha, he rides a bike the same size
You need a penny farthing.
Man dad had the SAME bike and after hes wreck sold the beauty
RIP the 600 class. Bikes are now either full out 220hp monsters or boring looking flat bar stuff for old people claiming they have bad backs.
Yep euro5 emissions and lack of sales have killed the screaming 600s, in another 10 or so years hipsters will be making UA-cam vids on how to make god awful "cafe racers" and "bobbers" out of them :-(
I have this bike i love this bike Just magnifique
My first bike was this bike damn she was bad with that Carbon fiber D&D
Numb bum sets in at about 100 miles... Ha! I just won one on ebay... thanks for the info.
The clip-ons are above the triple clamp. Very rare for a supersport.
Especially before they went all RR track weapon and lost the practicality, all the 600s from around 2000 are great.
This was a fantastic bike yet it was a poor seller, The yamaha r6 won on sales and honda cbr 600
a bit of dodgy cornering going on here.
Ikr!
Get a J1,JET it, change sprockets and brains bload ...SORTED
yea but he's like 7 years old.
Comment le moteur
Amazing how things change.... now the 600 class is dead!
Size of motor

“I six pence I shoulda said”

I'm sorry.... xD
The 90s were great dude. You missed it :P
