In 1986 I built a car very similar to this, licensed it in Virginia and put over 38,000 miles on it....NOTHING can match the feel on the highway, much more fun than a motorcycle and safer 😊
I’m going to retire in 2 years, and I’ve been wondering what was gonna be next…… scrolling on YT late at night a few weeks ago, I found a video of the VF-1…. I was like, that’s so cool….. I wish….. then I watched another video, and another….. several weeks later, I’ve now ordered a welder and am Beginning to teach myself to weld so I can make one of these….. absolutely amazing, keep it up please, this is exactly what I’ve been looking for!
I reached out to you about buying one of these from you, a couple years ago. I discussed wanting to make it street legal. So glad to see you did it! congrats!
@@KJRaycing Certainly looks it! I am curious how much unwanted attention you'll get from law enforcement but if the paperwork lines up, I suppose that doesn't matter. Looked like a blast in the video!
Surprised you made one that's street legal. I do recall from one of your FAQ videos that you didn't have much interest in doing it. But nonetheless glad to see you built one. I know here in Nebraska, far as I am aware from looking at some of the laws for custom street vehicles they would require a windshield and a wiper. Would have to see if that is still the case or if there's exemptions.
I went to the DMV, they are the ones that decide what can be registered and how. If you are interested in street legal crosskarting, and them for help instead of internet forums. I wish you the best.
Love it. Here in Australia that thing would be so illegal for street use I live in the state of New South Wales, and if we are caught riding an e-scooter the fine is more than $3300 UAD = $2150 USD. You would go close to getting locked up if you were caught driving a Crosskart.
Hello I really want to make a crosskart I saw your website but I don’t know what to buy like which instructions I need because I am a beginner & I don’t know what tools to get or stuff like that, also do I need to buy the rig kit the 2k$ one or I can build one on my own? Appreciate your work 🙏
Thanks man! Yes and no, just like motorcycles. I have put windshields on them before but really like the open cockpit. So I leave the windshield and doors off 100% of the time.
How does the solid rear end do on pavement? Does it constantly want to slide out if you were to get on the throttle? Currently have a street legal crosskart in Michigan (very easy for those curious) with an open diff from a car as I'm worried solid may makeit to tail happy
So I actually shot a clip of the live axle rear on pavement going in a circle to show you guys how it works really well, but I liked the video being just music and engine. I’ll cover all of that in the next video.
How did you go about legalizing it. I’m in central Michigan, and am currently building my own custom cart with inspiration from KJ carts, and I want to legalize it when it’s done! Any info or help would be greatly appreciated
@@KJRaycinglooking forward to it. I’ve seen a similar plated kart in Silicon Valley California, which was nice to see as nothing fun is legal out here.
Any particular reason you don’t? The engineering side of me tells me the extra weight and lack of the rubber shock absorber in the rear hub means I should use the clutch slip to be easier on the transmission and synchros.
@@KJRaycing No clutch is needed when shifting up and most of the time down (specific scenarios when you do need it). Just a quick off throttle, shift then back in the throttle for up shifts. The better you get at it the more seamless and faster it gets. You just can’t shift under a load up or down. There’s no risk to the transmission whatsoever because they were designed to shift that way. I’ve been doing it for almost 35 years with every manual transmission road and dirt motorcycle or ATV I have ever owned and never had an issue. Every MX and road race pro I’ve ever seen or road with shift that way. For me the clutch is used to keep the engine from dying and modulating power (forward and engine braking). The extra weight and the lack of cush drive rubber have no effect on it. Try it, it’s a lot easier on the clutch than high RPM slippage and there’s no risk to the transmission. Once you do it, it makes life a lot simpler and you’ll never go back. I was asking because I didn’t know if there was something you did to it to prevent it from being able to. I assumed everyone knew you didn’t have to use the clutch to shift up. Love your videos dude, these carts you are building are so awesome. You motivated me to start collecting parts for one for a future build. Got my eye on a bandit 1200 engine now.
I’ve ridden motorcycles for 25 years and know all about what you are saying… this is not a motorcycle, just a motorcycle engine. You can do whatever you want with yours brother, I’ll do what makes sense to me. The rubber shock absorber in the rear hub not being there is the main reason why I don’t do it to repeat myself. Thanks again man, these things are so fun to build and share.
This is a 650cc parallel twin kawi, an awesome engine for on and offroad use in my opinion. They can be tough at first but once you get used to “how” to get in and out it is pretty easy (lots of grab points).
Can’t count how many times i have watched this video between yesterday and today It’s my dream to build something awesome like this … this video is really inspiring 🥹
Awesome man! And thank you so much. I spent a lot of time trying to make this one show how fun building a crosskart can be. Check out the channel, the plans and the kits and get in on the fun 👍

That is absolutely fantastic and I agree, I’m already trying to figure out how to drive it year round!

Sneaky! This one has some of my favorite body panels!
Love it bought my plans last week!

My dream currently.
Looks great! Respect!
That's it' I'm starting to build this winter! My blood boils!
WOOOW THATS SO GREAT IS INCREDIBLE 🎉❤❤❤💥✨🌋✨🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💯🎉
Honda CRV AWD or 2 front awd Chevy axle wild donuts and fun
Great. Now I have to build one road specific…. Great vid as always brother.
Might have to order a kit on this one….
Thanks man! You’ve been here a long time. Can’t wait for some crosskart invitationals so I can meet you guys!
Getting goosebumps just watching the video lol 😂

we need an AWD offroad one for the mountains. mini rock crawler style
Passion!
LOVE THIS!!!!
I would so drive that from my house to mini mayhem 😂
That is definitely a good goal to have!
love it heck yeah dude! nice build i hope to one day use your video's and info to build my own!
For sure! You could always build a VF-1 and take the guesswork and 💰💰💰💰 out of building your own. I wish you the best man 👍

Nice build man and great to see one on the road. One question, wouldn’t a windshield improve its aero and driving comfort?

@ That’s fair enough mate. It’s the beauty of building stuff yourself, you get what you want 👍🏻
I driven that exact kart my buddy owned it things a animal
This is one of the best!
@@KJRaycing yep definitely I loved driving it
Very cool
Electric reverse, cutting teeth in the rear disc brake similar to a flywheel and mounting a starter for electric push button reverse? Any thoughts?
What track are you at around the 6min mark? Looks sweet!

I'm also in Michigan, what's the general process for getting it Street legal? I have a VF1 kit on the way from Kyle and this is my goal!
Same I’m in Grand Rapids area I’d love to build on drive it to the trails, or work lol how is it to register?

I'd be interested in knowing all the specs on this one. And did you put a reverse grear on it?
I’ll cover the details in the next video. This was kind of a teaser/what you can do with a street legal VF-1.
That's what I want to do. I have a sportster engine I want to use
Dude I’d love to see it!!!
Anyway to make the plans more similar to the shape / wheelbase of the Sierra ? Thinking the longer wheelbase etc would be better for street driving
Love your design a ton!
They can be stretched however much you want. Let’s see Sierra do that 😎
@@KJRaycing oh I agree! What are your thoughts on an electric setup that they are doing? Has anyone done that with the VF?
You done with the xl 🤔🤔
what wheel and tire set up is that? I have been trying figure tires and wheels for street use.
How far of a distance can you go on it
Can you tell what you went through to get it street legal, paperwork, DMV issues, etc.
I will in the next video, I just wanted to show off the fun in this one.

What size engine is in this one? I'm 72. How hard is it to get in and out of it?

I remember you saying in a video that you would not go street Illegal what changed your mind?
It is not a 150hp machine and is only geared for about 100mph redlined in 6th. And you guys clearly want street legal crosskarts, so this is for you.
@@KJRaycing it’s nice!
@@KJRaycing I don’t. I kinda like the KTM 525 . I may build another one with the crotch rocket 4 banger later on.
What kind of fuel mileage do you get?
By my calculations over 40mpg when cruising, less with more spirited driving.
I didn't realize that was you ,I passed you at the dam, then you went by the house,I bought the 700xx off you.
No effing way!! What are the odds? You should have known it was me man, I would have let you take it for a little spin 😎
That was my chip truck you were following in the video
Nice! I was wondering if you were in the video.
Does it have reverse?
Doesn’t need reverse obviously 😁
@KJRaycing 😂
What state
State of awesome!
Only certain states allow you to make them street legal. I’m curious where is it registered
I know Georgia just passed the law for these vehicles to be legal this year.
This video isn’t doing near as well as it should be.
Without fenders to control dirt and water spray, and protect pedestrians and cyclists, this would not pass a Certified Inspection.
It’s no different than a razor and those can be licensed street legal
@brockmccourt5150 In all states, or just certain ones?
