railgun is chronologically first at least as far as the first and second season go
Recommended watch 1st season of index first to get a feel of the series.
Next watch both season of railgun then index 2.
A better way to understand railgun is that it takes place before and into the 1st and 2nd season of index and doesn't advance to the main story.

I personally prefer A certain scientific railgun rather than A certain magical index by far, the first one is like a city filled of people with powers going from level 0 (no power) to level 5 (there are only 7). The protagonist is Misaka the 3th ranked also called railgun, the thing I was most attracted to this anime was the abilities, for example, Misaka can control electricity however she doesnt limit herself to throw lightnings like the typical electricity users in other animes, she can create a magnetic field to walk on walls, power up a shot like a railgun... Btw index is more about magic and religion things mixed with the scientific stuff, I only watched it for accelerator who is the first ranked level 5, kinda like an antihero

@@10gaws71 If there was a romance then the anime will focus on it and when it ends then people might not watch the anime any more. But if they never end the romance then people will get bored.

I mean, technically you can only watch Railgun but Railgun only does like 1/10th in terms of worldbuilding, plus there’s plenty of information and references you’ll miss if you just stick to Railgun. Up to you though.

Both Railgun and Accelerator are spinoffs, so the chronology is based off of the main series Index. Index has 3 completed seasons, Railgun is currently airing its 3rd season, and Accelerator has 1 completed season.
Railgun begins earlier in the timeline then Index and then ends during early Index. Railgun S occurs from mid to the early portion of late Index. Basically the first 2 seasons of Railgun occur during Index Season 1.
Railgun T jumps forward in Index as it occurs from early Index II and goes all the way to early Index III. So Railgun season 3 overlaps with portions of both seasons 2 and 3 of Index.
Accelerator occurs during early Index II.
Over-simplified Chronology
Railgun Begins -> Index Begins -> Railgun Ends -> Railgun S Begins -> Railgun S Ends -> Index Ends -> Index II Begins -> Accelerator Begins -> Accelerator Ends -> Railgun T Begins-> Index II Ends -> Index III Begins -> Railgun T Ends -> Index III Ends.

What’s this anime about ?
Basically there is a place called academy city which is a place that develops people called espers( people with scientific abilities.) There are three animes:
A certain magical index
A certain scientific railgun
A certain scientific accelerator
Index is the main one. Also there is also a magic side which is opposite of science side. This is the basics because the plot is gonna take way too long to get into.
A city where 80% of the population are students who want to develop their esper powers. While the heads of the city conduct inhumane experiments on the students, the main character fights against the underground organizations that try to keep this experiments a secret, either to protect her friends or because of her past...well it's a lot more than this,nobody is gonna give you a small description of this anime

it takes a slight wrong look for Misaka to try and zap the hell out of touma. Yet whenever it comes to misaki she doesn’t even attempt it, despite their rivalry. Does anyone else think that’s a little off? Or just not fair for my boy Touma.
she knows that touma can just stop her attacks and misaki goes to the same school as misaka so attacking her would probs get her into trouble
