Christian ASMR Bible Study: The Fear of the Lord and Why It’s Good (Hint: God Hates What Hurts You)

What is the fear of the Lord and how is it different than actual fear we experience in this world? I John 4 tells us that perfect love casts out fear. So the fear of the Lord is not comparable to the fear experienced in this world. Proverbs 8:13 gives a direct answer to what the fear of God is: To fear God is to hate evil. So what does the God of love hate? Proverbs 6 gives us a list and they all cause harm to His creation of humanity-His image bearers. Jesus had the Spirit of the fear of the Lord rest upon Him (Isaiah 11) and He came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8)-the instrument of sin that seeks to harm His beloved. Even His hatred of what seeks to hurt us is an extension of His love to us.
