I would imagine unless you’re a retail outlet that has an in house guitar brand (Thomann with Harley Benton, Andertons with Eastcoast, Amazon etc), I would guess the margins on sub $300 guitars are almost non existent these days. So a lot of these cheaper brands are going to be looking to move into high price ranges. But logically I’m unlikely to pay $3000 for a Gibson, Fender or PRS, I’m definitely not going to pay that for an Eart.
3k? I paid less for three Good Wood Gibsons by nearly half. Pro tip: when imaging buying an alternative brand, imagine trying to resell it - and the implied theorical gymnastics.
They did it to get people talking, and we have fallen for their trickery. That is one brand I shall boycott with gleeful delight with immediate effect. They can FO. At that price I am going direct to a builder. ONE THAT IS NOT THEM.
And it must come with those SD Zephyr pickups that use silver wire. May be they could throw in some Adamantium picks as freebies also? Now that would really sweeten the deal.
It seems that most new guitar companies nowadays stick to a particular tier, usually on the higher side, so they become known for a certain level of quality to start. Later on they might offer something at a lower price point. It seems a lot harder for a newer company to go up in perceived quality instead of down.
Even the best name brand guitars seem to lose so much value when sold 2nd hand, (unless they are very rare, vintage, etc.) So I can't imagine an "EART CUSTOM" or whatever being an "investment."
I disagree. People are asking for TWICE the value on used guitars on Reverb. I bought my 2016 American Standard Strat on AMS Music, brand new, in 2016 for $749. How? Fender was offering a $300 instant refund on American Fender instruments. Then, mine was supposedly "blemished" so they reduced the price even further. The guitar is perfect & it came with all the accessories and the hard case. $749. The guitar was perfect. No scratches or blemishes. One day, I tried to dial back the tone control (which I almost never do) and it "stuck" for a second, but immediately freed up and the tone control works perfectly. So, when I saw somebody listing an American Standard Stratocaster from (about) the same year as mine, for $2,400 I just had to laugh my butt off.
didn't Harmony try this as well. Seriously, no guitar is worth more than 1,000 bucks. The technology hasn't changed in over 60 years. Hell, people want one made 60 years ago more than they want one made 1 year ago. That's how little has changed. The manufacturing process is also more streamlined and mostly done by machines except for assembly. It's basically someone putting your Ikea furniture together for you at this point. Refinements have occurred. But even something like neck profiles have already peaked decades ago. The parts and labor do not justify the price tag greater than 1,000 dollars.
I think inflation has just done what it does. If people are all willing to pay $1500+ for an American Strat, doesn't it seem like that's what it's "worth"?

What's good wood? You mean the fretboard?

I would pay $3000 for an Eart guitar if it had a 1 ounce gold coin embedded in the body. Other than that, no thanks.

Chapman has had this issue 3 or 4 times now. On the other side, Ibanez started cheap and now sells a full range of guitars.
