It is much more expensive than the Buffalo Trace and BT is very drinkable as well, very good. In my country the difference between these two is 22 usd. Do you think it is worth the huge price difference?
I am way late to this party, but a bottle of Eagle Rare 10 yr. appeared on the shelf of my store today. Limit 1 per customer, and there was one left, so I grabbed it. And it is arguably(with Weller Reserve) the best bourbon I’ve ever tried. The aftertaste I get with a lot of bourbons is not there in Eagle Rare, and the ‘soft’ sweetness shines through. Price was $48 after taxes, so I didn’t have to pay secondary market prices. Thanks for the excellent review.
I love the smell of this one so much I keep smelling the glass after the whiskey is gone. They should put this stuff into an air freshener. If this is just a "Buy It" , I gotta find your "Stock it"s
I heard a lot of positive stuff about Eagle Rare and today I finally cracked open my first bottle.. and it's extremely good. I like my bourbon sweet and this one's killing it. Out of my top 4 favorite bourbons (WT Rare Breed, FR Single Barrel, MM) this is the most expensive one. But it's irreplaceable, so I stock it.
Eagle Rare is a "Stock It" bourbon in my book. It was one of the first bourbons I ever tried and I can't help but compare everything else to it. It's so smooth and flavorful and gets better with a little oxidation.
I was on the verge! I was really close to giving it a "Stock it", but frankly, I don't stock it... but I'd see myself getting one or more of these a year!
Dude if you like Makers Mark ( I don't ) you should love Larceny Bourbon. Makers and Larceny are both wheated bourbons. Lots of wheat instead of rye in the mash bill.
This stuff is so good! Both rich and subtle flavors in the nose and taste. 90 proof but no burn in the nose or taste I can sniff and sip a full measure without ever feeling the need to have a sip of water. The finish is delicate but pleasing. My favorite so far.
i bought one AND stocked one! Probably the best bourbon for the price point. Thanks for letting us know about the single barrel fact! Makes me love Eagle Rare even more.
That cocoa aroma came through on the taste!!! This is one delicious Bourbon. My bottle is almost empty. LLS here I come!!! Great review. Still can't believe I can taste and smell all these notes!!! I got ripe apples too.
90 proof, 10-year age statement, essentially single barrel... they could easily charge $50 for this stuff. Mad props to Buffalo Trace for keeping this whiskey accessible and affordable.
Great review! I enjoy Rare very much but have a big problem finding it. I live in NC and the ABC stores just don’t seem to stock it. Ive been know to drive to to SC to buy it, but even there it’s hard to find. I have seen there is a Buffalo Trace shortage across the board, Rare being one of them. Oh such problems.
In my opinion, the combination of quality and price makes Eagle Rare a clear "Stock It;" it and Buffalo Trace are probably my 2 current favorite under $30 bourbons.
Great review and congratulations on your 50th episode. My cousin really talked up this bourbon and after seeing your review. I will definitely get it in the near future.
I’m very new to bourbons so I got Buffalo Trace on your recommendation, and I love it!! I want to try this one next!! I definitely trust your recommendations!! Thanks for these videos!
Got a bottle for Christmas. In the nosing I picked up the Toffee, oak and vanilla. The taste is delicious but being new to this Eagle Rare is the highest alcohol content of the 4 bourbons I currently have collected so far. Maybe one more before I venture into Rye territory!?
I bought a bottle of this some time ago and it camein a woooen box that I still have today! at the time I thought the contents were ok, but I may get some and try iy again! btw eagle rara 101 aged ten years!
Great tasting! Truly appreciate the work you are putting in. I do happen to be sipping this right now and have posted an IG of my bottle and some thoughts. Still, your perception of the cocoa is spot on. I didn't take notice of it before you suggested it was in the profile. More then suggestion, your observation made me keenly aware of it. The orange note is unmistakable but the cocoa...spot on! I liked this dram before I watched your tasting. After watching, I have an even broader expansion of this sip. Cheers!
Wow! Okay, you had me at 10 years. Then you described the nose and the taste. I like the idea of your 'grade'. Buy, Stock, Try, and Ignore. Most of these have been try it before I buy it. You put me on to Heaven Hill (thank you!), and I have a sample of their cask strength 110 proof waiting for me to get off duty so I can enjoy it properly. This sounds like a worthy buy, and will be looking for it locally.
Hi Bill: Totally agree! Enjoying EAGLE RARE tonight. Vanilla is all through this glass from Nose to Finish with a creamy mouth feel. I am in the final third of the bottle. GREAT Bourbon! SLÁINTE Mike
Another great review WD. Cant wait to try a dram of this. I really enjoy your genial, and comparatively toned-down style. I've watched a lot of Whiskey YT reviewers, and a lot of those are too amped up, seemingly more interested in the sound of their own voice than the subject in question. Your channel is a welcome oasis of calm. Great stuff!
Hah! I appreciate the compliment. Different strokes for different folks I suppose, but yea... i think we all have different whiskeytubers we flow for different reasons
we had been drinking this the night before and i had made waffles and chicken for our brunch...as we ate I realized one thing, don't know if it was just me but the waffle with maple syrup made me realize that I actually encountered this taste in eagle rare. that is good bourbon...thank you for the vid.
All these commentd I see about you hitting 5k subs and your now at 40k+ congrats awesome! Just saw a bottle of this and came to look for a review, glad I came across yours. Love my bourbon and will definitely be going back to get a bottle Cheers mate, new subscriber from Australia!
This is a stock it for me. Hard to find here and when I do the liquor stores raise the price up to 40-45. But I recently just picked up 2 bottles to stock. One of my all time favorites.
It's no longer called single barrel because they automated the bottle filling. So it switches to another barrel if the one being used runs out mid bottle. So as a result only and very small percentage are not single barrel. But by the FTA rules since a rare bottle will have some of 2 barrels in it they can't say single barrel anymore.
Congratulations on #100 it’s been a high honor to be doing these reviews with you. Thank you all for the reviews and I have to honestly say this is the first time I’ve witnessed you actually about to score it and then you hit us up with the rundown on stock it, buy it, try it, and my personal favorite ignore it with the Johnie Red lol. But it’s really been a privilege to be part of your channel and I’m definitely going to score me a bottle of this and first dram is dedicated to you and #100. Cheers. My friend you always keep it real and genuine and the growth and maturity you have made in just 100 videos with 1,000’s of different whiskeys in their different forms such as bourbon whiskey, single malt whiskey, rye whiskey, Canadian blended whiskey. I’ve learned a lot from you. I was a beginner to the whiskey world and you’re the first channel I’ve watched and I did see a few others but none do it like you with history of distilleries or the backstory of it. I know there are some you don’t do because you explained it in the first episode of the line of different types from same distillery so you give a basic knowledge of the batch you’re reviewing. Thank you for letting me be part of your world and inviting me into your home, and sometimes when you sneak off on vacation, lol, the wife and kids must love that but you have a substantial fan base . I’m just honored to be part of every episode, here’s to 100 more.
The Whiskey Dic I realized the mistake my iPhone did an update and it autocorrected to 100 by accident and what I meant when sneaking off on your vacation you were in a booth having a dram and doing a review on one of your vacations I thought it was pretty cool that you brought us with you on the journey. Nothing bad.
I cannot find it in Arizona at all. Top to bottom in the state I have never seen it. I eventually broke down and bought a bottle online and had it delivered at a premium price. That said, I thoroughly enjoy it. I like it so much that I'm trying not to drink it all because it's so difficult to get. Easily one of my favorites.
I bought it around the end of July or Early August. For what ever reason its a little harder to find in my area, but I have no troubles getting Buffalo Trace.
Just bought a bottle, $49.99 here in MD, USA! Don't know if that's 2-1/2 years of bourbon price inflation or location. Really looking forward to giving it a try, that's the most I've paid for any bottle.
Was given a bottle for my birthday a few years ago. Saved it for the fourth of July. My friend, his dad, and I cracked open the bottle and by midnight it was empty. Great whiskey for a great time.
Good old Canada pricing, cant find this under 60 CDN when it should be ~40-45. Did find it hard to find too though so that likely has something to do with it.
I've had two bottles of this so far this year and each taste differently. The first bottle was super woody, the most woody bourbon I've had so far. The second bottle is super sweet cherry cola with very little wood. Both are really good but definitely varies bottle to bottle for me. I really like the cherry cola flavors. A bit sweet but really tasty.
That's part of the intrigue/allure of single barrel whiskies. (Eagle Rare is essentially a single barrel bourbon even though they can't legally say that on the bottle.)
Very good bourbon, but holy cow am I getting completely different notes than you got. I am drinking Eagle Rare as I write this, and for me the wood is very forward on the nose, followed by citrus notes. On my palate the citrus fruits are dominant followed by the oak. This is a bourbon that is at first not very approachable, but gets better as you let it open up and get to know it. Eagle Rare is probably my second favorite daily drinker after Wild Turkey 101.
Nice review, It's a little more expensive in the UK at around £36.00, but I think I'll give this one a go next. I like your ratings idea, keep up the good work:-)
First off, it's 2022 and a standard bottle of Eagle Rare at the grocery store will go for around 40 dollars if you are lucky to find one, while most retailers along with the liquor stores are pushing the price north of 60 dollars. Yes, I do believe it is an above average whiskey that competes rather well with any other bourbon priced under 50 dollars. If the price gets too high, then you are encroaching on the single barrel, full proof, and aged whiskeys from most of the other reputable distillers and then it becomes just a mediocre option compared to the strong competition for whiskeys approaching a hundred dollars or more.
For levity: On the nose I get a 1/2 eaten snickers bar left in my gym locker over the summer next to my unlaundered jock strap. I also get notes of a school nurses trash can -iodine, alcohol and cherry lollipop sticks. The finish lingers like Momma Cass’s bathwater. 🤭
number ratings in general have tricked me into getting into something considered "good" but that i really don't care for be it a restaurant, a movie, or booze most film critics would give citizen kane a very high numerical rating, and yet most movie going audiences today would find it boring i do find them useful for making personal rankings and mapping out my own preferences, though
When you describe something as "dry" are you referring to the alcohol bite/burn, or the acidity, or astringency from tannins? It came across as if you were lumping the descriptors together with viscosity also, which is an entirely different thing. They are all different sensory perceptions.
Thanks for the review I didn't realize ER10 was single barrel and sometimes blended. Personally, after spending time with the bottle I wouldn't recommend eagle rare 10. I got a bad bottling. Starts off great but then I got a overpowering white dog finish. Way to hot and odd to be enjoyable. Almost as tho two barrels were blended and one was a bad barrel high in the rick house just thrown into the batch to hide it in a blend. The two never married and before listening to your review I was not going to replace it. If it's true they just threw in the bad barrels into this blend I rather not invest anymore $ into ER10. Plenty of other bourbons that have blended better then this one. Overall pretty disappointed by my bottle of ER10. Thanks for the informative review!
Damn I wish the liquor stores by me were as cheap as the ones by you, I tried 3 local stores by me and the price ranged between $50-53 bucks! I hate NY lol, nice video though.
Can't find it in Miami. They got no Eagle in Publix or Total wine, nothinging in small local stores either. Probably this Eagle is really Rare. Need to head in NY
I live in Australia. I really want to try this one, but it's about twice the price here: is it still worth it, even though I assume it loses the 'good value' tag?
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary it’s often around $70usd actually but can probably find it for $60usd Think I’ll give it a try since I really want to As long as your first response isn’t ‘it’s not worth $60’
Limestone Branch Distillery, president and distiller is Stephen Beam, his great grandfather was M.C.Beam. Ireally like your calm and interesting reviews as I am new to Bourbon and Tenesee whiskey.
I can't disagree with that it does taste very Oak forward give it a little bit of time to breathe open it up leave it open for a few hours or so maybe pour yourself a dram and leave it out on the counter for 20 minutes or so see if it changes see if it gets any better for you you could always try adding a couple drops of water as well that will help
I'm surprised to hear that Eagle Rare is almost universally appreciated as a good bourbon. Different tastes for different people I suppose. What type of bourbon do you like?
I'm embarrassed by my poor lighting. I couldn't get it dialed in and forgot to fix it in post. Revel in the glory if my shiny head!
did not bother me.
+Jim Goldstein Glad to hear. I get pretty anal about things like that!
Eagle Rare
*of
Eagle rare is the most drinkable whisky I've had so far. Low burn or spice. Very sweet. It's a good bourbon.
It is much more expensive than the Buffalo Trace and BT is very drinkable as well, very good. In my country the difference between these two is 22 usd. Do you think it is worth the huge price difference?

It's actually nice to see another alcohol reviewer seeking alternatives to numerical ratings. Nice job on the review!
My thoughts exactly.. and I just got a text that er came in to my shop
I agree
I agree with the “stock it”. I’ll always have one (or more) on hand
Thanks for introducing me to my new fav bourbon, I exclusively drank buffalo trace and makers mark.. until now.
Awesome!
Dude if you like Makers Mark ( I don't ) you should love Larceny Bourbon. Makers and Larceny are both wheated bourbons. Lots of wheat instead of rye in the mash bill.
I agree. A fantastic whiskey. Tastes like something twice the price. I prefer with a little ice as well.
Bourbon and ice do tend to work well together if that's what you're after!
This stuff is so good! Both rich and subtle flavors in the nose and taste. 90 proof but no burn in the nose or taste I can sniff and sip a full measure without ever feeling the need to have a sip of water. The finish is delicate but pleasing. My favorite so far.

100% agree
4 years later and its $79 near me and comes in 4x a year with only 5 on the shelf and one per person 😅
I almost paid $150 a few weeks ago
Great review!

I’m very new to bourbons so I got Buffalo Trace on your recommendation, and I love it!! I want to try this one next!! I definitely trust your recommendations!! Thanks for these videos!
Psyched to hear that! This ones a very safe bet too!
I’m in the same boat as you being new to bourbon and after trying both buffalo trace and eagle rare the ladder definetly takes the cake! Enjoy
I have a bottle of Eagle Rare in my home bar right now. One of my all time favorites that I can actually afford to drink regularly!
It's awesome
Got a bottle for Christmas. In the nosing I picked up the Toffee, oak and vanilla. The taste is delicious but being new to this Eagle Rare is the highest alcohol content of the 4 bourbons I currently have collected so far. Maybe one more before I venture into Rye territory!?
I like your channel. Straight, simple, and to the point while being amiable, friendly, and accessible.
Thanks man! I actually needed to hear that today.
I got toffee butterscotch sweet and think flavor. Very well done bourbon.

I actually got similar tasting notes. I noticed a nuttiness and then a dark chocolate/cocoa in the end. Also congrats on the 50th episode!
+BloodRain2224 Did You Already have the bottle or did you go out and buy it?
I bought it around the end of July or Early August. For what ever reason its a little harder to find in my area, but I have no troubles getting Buffalo Trace.

3:42, love that your graphic for leather is a dairy cow.
Great review! I'm pretty sure we have a bottle of that on our bar. I like the new ratings too.
+Scotch 4 Dummies what are you drinking tonight?
Congrats on the 50th episode. Getting close to 5,000 subscribers!
+Mr. Rogers so close
Eagle rare is $45 in Illinois , if you can even find it . Having said that, it the exceptional .
Was given a bottle for my birthday a few years ago. Saved it for the fourth of July. My friend, his dad, and I cracked open the bottle and by midnight it was empty. Great whiskey for a great time.
Those are the best nights. Love it
Good old Canada pricing, cant find this under 60 CDN when it should be ~40-45. Did find it hard to find too though so that likely has something to do with it.
I found it hard to find as well. Ordered a couple of bottles off the LLBO website for the first time. Worked a treat.
Just bought this expression today. Beginner whisky? I suppose. I'm a 35 year whisky veteran and I dig it too.
+cato nice!
Nice review. I agree, American Eagle is the first bourbon I tried neat several years back. It's definitely a buy!
Did it used to be called American Eagle? I didnt run across that
My bad, you are correct it's Eagle Rare.
Just picked up a bottle of this, my maiden voyage into bourbon!
+Paul Sousa Great Start!
I really love your flavor icons - great job!!
+WhiskyJason thanks!
Very good bourbon, but holy cow am I getting completely different notes than you got. That's cool. It's always nice to get new things!
This is basically allocated now. You should revisit this though if you can find a bottle.
Funny I picked up a bottle recently but I've heard from many that it's tough to get
Cheers Ryan Davis! Too bad I can't get this is in Finland.
Nice review, It's a little more expensive in the UK at around £36.00, but I think I'll give this one a go next. I like your ratings idea, keep up the good work:-)
+Kevin Bryant thanks Bryant!
I tried my first bourbon eagle rare it was ok but I’m going to stick with my xo cognac cheers
You may enjoy Malted In Montreal's channel of you haven't checked it out yet
First off, it's 2022 and a standard bottle of Eagle Rare at the grocery store will go for around 40 dollars if you are lucky to find one, while most retailers along with the liquor stores are pushing the price north of 60 dollars. The cocoa and almond is probably due to being finished in port barrels. Cheers
Hatd as hell to find here in florida. I have 1 bottle and not opening it until i get more. My go to is 4 roses single barrel, elijah craig and larceny
All good choices
My go to bourbon, May want to try Elmer T Lee.
+mpharr2 I've seen that around. I'll pick it up!
Definitely have to get a bottle Bill-Thanks for the review 🥃
This is definitely one you should get!
A stocker for sure
For levity:
On the nose I get a 1/2 eaten snickers bar left in my gym locker over the summer next to my unlaundered jock strap. I also get notes of a school nurses trash can -iodine, alcohol and cherry lollipop sticks. The finish lingers like Momma Cass’s bathwater. 🤭
Jokes aside, are you not a fan of eagle rare?
The Whiskey Dic I will go out and buy it soon.
I love your stuff!
I think you'll like it if you enjoy oaky bourbons (if memory serves)
Congratulations! You definitely sold that bourbon to me, I'll see if I can find it first.
Definitely let me know what you think of it!
number ratings in general have tricked me into getting into something considered "good" but that i really don't care for
be it a restaurant, a movie, or booze
most film critics would give citizen kane a very high numerical rating, and yet most movie going audiences today would find it boring
i do find them useful for making personal rankings and mapping out my own preferences, though
You could have adjusted the white balance a little bit. Anyway thank you for the review.
Congrates , hope this channel will keep growing
+sahil sindhu Thanks Sahil!
So cal. 2021. Most stores have this for over msrp or its out of stock.
Hey bud... once again great vid. 👍🏼👏🏼
Thank you!
Great channel
Thanks Alex!
In my country (Czech republic) the price is much higher. About double the price you mention.
When you describe something as "dry" are you referring to the alcohol bite/burn, or the acidity, or astringency from tannins? It came across as if you were lumping the descriptors together with viscosity also, which is an entirely different thing. They are all different sensory perceptions.
Yea sorry. In this case it was the tannins
$30!!!!
In Australia, it’s $83
I found Eagle Rare to be extremely floral! Like a women's shampoo! Very nice whiskey!
Have you ever had Topo Distillery whisky? Its from Chapel Hill NC.
I haven't had that one before. Local distilleries that haven't made it around the country are tough ones to get up here.
I wonder how this would taste after a couple of years in an oloroso barrel 🤔
Probably good. But I love sherry finished whiskies
After 5 years! i am the 1000 like! NICE!
Hah! Well done!
Stock it.
Eagle rare or makers mark or woodford reserve ???🤔
Woodford
Damn I wish the liquor stores by me were as cheap as the ones by you, I tried 3 local stores by me and the price ranged between $50-53 bucks! I hate NY lol, nice video though.
I was in NYC a few weeks ago. The prices there are astronomical
So what is it? Around 60? It could be worth buying once
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary it’s often around $70usd actually but can probably find it for $60usd
Think I’ll give it a try since I really want to
As long as your first response isn’t ‘it’s not worth $60’
Oof... at 60 it could be fun
have you ever done Yellowstone bourbon? $100 in Australia, would love your review
I have not yet. Wheres it from?
Limestone Branch Distillery, president and distiller is Stephen Beam, his great grandfather was M.C.Beam. Ireally like your calm and interesting reviews as I am new to Bourbon and Tenesee whiskey.
What bourbons / whiskey do you always stock?
I have a video I did about a month ago called "top 5 go back to whiskies"
I'm being told they are not making Eagle Rare 10 year anymore, just curious if anyone is hearing the same thing ?
+ArkansasBadBoy I haven't heard that. It would be surprising
@arkansasBadBoy isn't the age statement on the back label now?
Eagle rare or buffalo trace for a first purchase?
Either is a good choice... I'd go buffalo trace so you can follow it with eagle rare
Just got this and I’m not sure why but for me the oak is way too overpowered. Tastes like pure wood
The oak flavor is just too much for me. I much prefer the regular BT expression.
+Conor Lennon fair enough. The oak is solid in this one so if that's not your thing then you probably wouldnt like this one
They took the name literally because it’s quite “Rare” around my parts these days.
I kept getting the taste of dandelions with this whiskey which I did not like.. I probably wont buy it again.
All I smell is honey and the ahcohol and I taste is honey and the oak.
Try adding a couple drops of water
Plus I don't have that type of glass you're using. But it's a small wine glass. Kind of the same shape.
banana split
Mmmm
@@TheWhiskeyDictionary no banana? lol i get bubble gum to sometimes
It’s too thin in my opinion
I usually enjoy your reviews but yeah I think you're way off on this one
I'm surprised to hear that Eagle Rare is almost universally appreciated as a good bourbon. Different tastes for different people I suppose. What type of bourbon do you like?
Slow your speech rate bud and try and calm down a bit
