*This battery reconditioning program exceeded my presumptions. It worked on any drill battery, several AA and AAA batteries, **batery.repair** and any camera battery. The steps are simple and the act itself is exciting to do. No matter what type of battery you`ve got, it is sure to function again!*
Making use of the ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxcJ22tnHH9l1vjdIdEIG27iOG55P7LXI8 reconditioning plan, I just saved 2 auto batteries from being completely junked. The guides were very simple to follow. I wish I would have found this years ago! You may use the guide to recondition any battery type
Very nice job. I would mention that DJI operators can/should set the days to auto-discharge within the app. The default is 10 days (way too long). I've set mine to 3 days. You must set this option for each individual battery -- it it not a global setting. This allows fully charged batteries to slowly discharge on their own in the event that you don't get to fly them in a timely manner. It's a critical step to ensuring the longevity of your batteries.
OK I must need to do this cause all 3 of my batteries blew up like Val Kilmer and are now DOA. So plug a battery in the Inspire 1, turn it on, open the app, set the proper settings in the app, shut down and repeat for each battery? Cheers
Hi my DJI Phantom advanced plus battery is draining very fast and i need to calibrate the battery...please tell me a way to calibrate it. Thank you......................Your video is really useful
Great advise. I do actually fully discharge below 8% every 20 cycles and I always check my battery cells for deviations on the healthy drones website. Also I keep a battery log. One thing which is also very important for people in cold countries: Don't fly with batteries under 20 degrees Celcius (warm them in your car or under your clothes) and fly it gently until the temperature is up to 30 degrees Celcius.
In the #2, you mentioned that to store battery at 50%~ capacity. What about if let's say today i charged my battery to 100%, then go outside for a flight time, then go back to home at lets say 20% battery. Should I charge my battery to 50% now so it may be stored if i don't plan to fly in the next few days?
Nice tips, short and pertinent, thanks. What´s a good way to discharge a battery, just leave it in the drone and switch it on, as you show, or is there another way?
Last time I flew with mine I discharged them to 30% and placed them in a lipo bag (seperately) with the date and % charge, and it was all in my carry on baggage, as per FAA regulations, They absolutely don't want them in checked baggage as you could start a fire and kill everybody. I would suggest checking FAA regs. before you fly, I mean really who wants to kill themselves and everybody else, good video
Hi Kailash, For how long can you leave your P4 Battery let say around 30% without being recharged? Will, it damaged the Battery? Can you give me some info. Thanks
I will recommended to charge below 30% when traveling by air. Some say 20%. Having batteries charge over 60% are way to dangerous. You say 90% not sure if that a good idea. Mahalo
I have a Skywalker quad that I got for my birthday, and I left it for about 3 or 4 months and the battery has not been bloating, It has no camera and it only has 1 small battery, So I know the Phantom has multiple batteries and all that, but if my Skywalker drone goes on to a plane (I don't know if it has charge or not), will it start to bloat?
Gotta admit but it never dawned on me about going full speed then coming to an abrupt stop would hurt the cells on the Lipo, makes sense.. thanks for the tips !
Ummm... NO. Today's LiPos are meant for high discharge. I've been buying/using LiPos for ten years. I have 22.2 V 14S 9000 MAh set up in my Goblin 700 heli and my two sets (4 LiPos) are still running strong after 3 years of hard 3D flights: Piro-Flips, Hurricanes, Elevator Tick Tocks, 4 point elevator tick tocks, funnels, snakes, Tail-Slides, hard aileron loops, rolls, aileron tick tocks... and I was one of the 1st to get a 1st gen Phantom and I still only have the one 11.1V 3 cell 2200MAh (20C) LiPo it came with and it's still in top shape and that's one of the only ways I have fun with it is to fly inches off the ground cornering hard and still get the expected flight time. BTW - 20C is what the discharge rate used to be when we used to fly Align TREX 450 V2s and even 450 Pros. Just youtube/google the hardcore 3D flights from Alan Szabo or any other RC Pilot. And we paid the premium for batteries back then. Each thunder power RC battery of this size was 150 and 6S 3000 to 5000 were 350.00 a piece.
Really informative video. I have an offtopic question though - Say I get my hands on a Mavic Pro in India through an Indian reseller. I am planning a trip to Europe in the coming months. Would I be able to travel with this drone to Europe and safely bring it back without getting it stuck in customs?
My batteries are numbered with a marker. I change them each flight. I set the discharge time in the Phantom App to 5 days. Seems to be OK, but, except in winter, I fly pretty often.
Really helpful, do you guys ever just get so overwhelmed with so much technology from cameras, lenses, software, that we probably are doing some damaging stuff to our equipment and don't really know it? I always was charging my batteries 100% b/c there were so many jobs I would get with little notice. This helps!
well dang, really glad I didn't listen to my buddy and put it in the fridge lol but in regards to a full discharge..let's say for example, what if I fly it down to say 10-15%, and then let it sit with engines at idle until drops to below 10%.. but I do this Everytime I fly.. naturally I would place the battery in a cool place and wait until it comes back down to room temperature before charging.... but is that practice ok, good, or bad for the batteries? edit: just background info... I currently only have one battery, and plan on flying everyday as much as possible. my opportunities are limited to a quick lunch break at work and then once or twice at home. so until I can buy some additional batteries I'd like to know how to keep this one going strong.
While I can appreciate your video (and do), I have been flying RC for 7 years (700 size helis and 50-70" planes) and have always kept my batteries at full charge. I don't abuse them outside the normal scopes of flying and respect the charge rates recommended by the manufacturer. I have a 12s pack that has well over 250 cycles and is about 2 years old and has not puffed one MM. I have multiple multirotor batteries that have well over 100 cycles with MAYBE 1mm of swelling but still charge fine and have very low IR. Most of my plane batteries have well over 100 cycles on them and are still flying perfectly. I also keep my P3P and Inspire pro batteries at 100% as I never know when I will be flying. All of my batteries with the exception of the P3P and Inspire pro batteries are kept in the garage (I live in Texas). I do, however, fly at least once a week but not all the batteries see flight times. Not saying you shouldn't heed the advice of the OP but I was sharing my experience ;)
Thank you for sharing your experience! As a matter of fact, I store the batteries fully charged most of the time, for the convenience of being able to get them in the air when I want to. However, just like you, I do manage to fly atleast once or twice a week. None of my batteries have been through an auto discharge process so far as they are consistently put to use. I believe the manufacturer suggests storing them at half charge (for longer durations) so the battery has a wider threshold to withstand temperature variations.
I certainly agree about sudden stops (~@ 1 min. In video). As I was shooting video today, the thought occurred how to avoid this: Select Cinematic mode, once airborne. Then, if you let go of the sticks, you'll gently coast to a stop - without all that aggressive counter-rotation. It saves wear and tear on the motors and prolongs flight time. Do this whether videoing or just flying and/or taking stills. Try it.
My Dji phantom 2 battery was dead so i bought a second one but i have used it 1 week then i have tried to use it 3 weeks later and it was dead... however i have follow the instructions that says "When you don't use your battery for a long time please let it between 35-45%" do you know if that was a wrong information ...?
My D5 drone came with a USB charging plug. My question is: There ok s a red light that comes on telling my battery is bing charged. When the red light goes out is the battery still being charged? Thanks
Help urgent tryed a set of livh 1300 on my drone but they discharged last night hooked it up to my drone and my dron battery discharged super fast to 65% unhooked em and my battery was a bit puffy through em on my cold pad and they went back to norm are they ok to use ? Not usin livh no nore
Very important question. When I plan on storing batteries. I put them on the the charger and pull them off when the 4th light starts flashing. I believe this to be approximately just over 50%. is this correct?
That's for the great video. Excited to see the fate of those two batteries. When will you post it? Also, is there a resource on UA-cam to show how to deep discharge a phantom 4 battery? I'm headed on a flight across the country and the airline recommends the batteries not be charged.
Victor Randolph , the best way I have found to discharge them for a flight is to fly in your yard down to 15% land and pack for the flight. It is a very good idea to do that, and it's great to see other pilots are aware of the discharged requirement most US airlines require for these batteries.
In my drone I put low capacity battery that will swollen after that again buy heavy battery that also happen like that only .will agin I use or not please help me
Thank you for the information... however there is one more mistake that people make all the time, and that is to immediately charge a battery after its been used. Its best to buy more batteries and use those while the warm depleted ones get cool to room temperature before recharging again.
The most aggressive battery usage is rapid climbing, not breaking. You can store fully charge Inspire batteries because they will self discharge after a user set time, not sure if this goes for phantom as well. You didn´t say much about cold, but using batteries below 15 degrees is also stressful for the cells. You also forgot to talk about physical damage as hard knocks can destroy the batteries.
hey i sended my p3 to fix before two months is there any way to discgarge my batteries without the drone and charge them again ? i have the charger and the batteries
Great video and I learned a few things I have never heard of Thank you! Okay where's the video of you tossing these batteries in the fire? I would like to see that.
I need help. I think my battery is in hibernation mode. It has sitting for 2 years. I press and hold button and it 4 soild green lights but it then shut off.
some great information. im sure ill repeat someones comments but i would add a few things. You should never fly with them charged. Most airlines won't allow fully charged li-po batteries in your checked or carry on. I discharge mine to 10-15% this keeps them safe in the event of an issue that would cause sudden discharge. Also you can program the battery to self discharge down to(I believe 20%) in the battery controller. so if you do charge them, and weather stops you from flying within a day or so, the battery will safely discharge it for you. :-) never swap a used battery from the craft to the charger, give the battery time to cool down. charging too hot can degrade it's life. also flying in too cold an environment.
what about charging a dji battery in 30mins is bad? my official charger charges fast asf, it even triggers over voltage warning on the batteries sometimes.
Hi I just took out my P4 after 10 days, I was to busy to use. And basically I fund out that my two extra battery where bit warm, I'm in shock, I didn't know all of this tips thanks so much now I will care more of my battery. Thanks
my battery p3 was 8%, and store in room temp, after 2 day, it cannot switch on or no led indicator.. its is self discharge..?. or batt is going die..? haha
Great video! I wish I had watched it a couple of months ago because I couldn't fly for a few weeks and stored an Inspire 1 battery at 100%. Since then that battery has been flaky. I did the calibration as per DJI instructions and have been diligent on when and how I store/charge the batteries but this one has never been the same. I get less flight time and I get the "Propulsion output is limited to ensure safety of battery" message. Needless to say, this is always the last battery I use for the day. With this battery I don't fly too far or too high, fly with the landing gear down and I keep a close watch on the voltage during the flight. My other Inspire 1 batteries are fine but this one is toast :-(
How can I take care of all the batteries when I have 17 drones each with 4 batteries. One drone has 12 batteries???? Not enough time in a day to fly them all.
You need add this on tip putting over jacket or sheet over dji phantom 3 or 4 when it's turn on you can fry your boards lucky it didn't happen to me i notice when one my family members threw coat on it i was testing my apps setup up my drone i use use temputer gun you get like 97deg the camera ginball get 100degs it had heatsink plate these like desktop pc when it flys.
Kailash Naik Hi, I am planning to bring my dji phantom to India legally but I don't know what the procedure is... Pls reply to this message.. Nice content BTW
Strange the you are the only one on YT that show this with DJI lipo's. Seeing that DJI lipo packs have a tight fit in the Drone any swelling will be a problem, there is no mention here of this problem, or I have not found it. The liop's you show must have been terribly abused, like direct charging them after a flight while they are still hot ( no mention of that here) or fast charging them on a aftermarket charger. It is not the same, but I have a Hubsan H501S, lipo's fit tightly in battery compartment, I have them always fully charged, for now more than 2 years, and they have not swollen or lost flight time, maybe the chemicals in the DJI lipo is very unstable
I call bullshit on the aggressive flying hurting your batteries!!! I have been an RC pilot, dealing with lipos for over 30 years. Probably longer than this guy has been alive.

Damn, I just got my Mavic battery swollen up and started to think about your tip.
Does the battery need to be in the Drone for it to discharge after setting this feature?
@Kailash Great Informative video. Could you please tell me were you got your cool looking drone case from?
Thank you! If you're talking about the Phantom 4 case then it comes along with the aircraft, inside the box.

Nice tips, short and pertinent, thanks. What´s a good way to discharge a battery, just leave it in the drone and switch it on, as you show, or is there another way?
The best way of course is to fly your drone. Alternatively, you can use the battery as a power bank to charge your phones/laptops.

You need add this on tip putting over jacket or sheet over dji phantom 3 or 4 when
it's turn on you can fry your boards lucky it didn't happen to me i notice when one my family members threw coat on it i was testing my apps setup up my drone i use use temputer gun you get like 97deg the camera ginball get 100degs it had heatsink plate these like desktop pc when it flys.
Great video man! What do you use to edit, I really like your style!

Kailash Naik Hi, I am planning to bring my dji phantom to India legally but I don't know what the procedure is... Pls reply to this message.. Nice content BTW
Same. Thank you :)
#2 and #4 Just read the instructions, it's right there.
Airlines do not want batteries charged more then 30% ; they may get confiscated if charged more than 30%

Thanks for watching! Appreciate the comment.
Very informative, thanks! Waiting patiently for the fire video, stoke it up!!!
Great info . Surprised your friends car didnt burn up.
Thank you!
Kailash great video and thank you for sharing.
Thanks, will keep in mind.
Very informative and helpful. 👏👍
Good info n to the point Iike how they are in the description just subbed & liked happy flying
as a battery test engineer I would say point 3 is not completely true, but other points are recommended to follow
I call bullshit on the aggressive flying hurting your batteries!!! I have been an RC pilot, dealing with lipos for over 30 years. Probably longer than this guy has been alive.
