- The 1965 Shelby GT350 model car to RC conversion is one step closer to being ready to drive! In this video I complete a major step which is getting the MA10 rear axle installed. A little late with this upload but I hope you all enjoyed it regardless. This is another one of my more "nerdy" slower paced videos as I'm trying to provide all you builders with as much info and detail as possible without this video being 1hr+ and completely unwatchable. Surprisingly these videos sometimes do really well with general audiences so we'll see what happens. Would the set up you have for the front and rear end work with any or almost any older style muscle car? Looking to make most of my models into rc after finding you guys and are all generally 50's to 60's except my 32 ford roadsters

This is really cool. After your stepside Silverado build I really want to build a 24 scale rc. Ive been in the rc hobby for 20+ years. Love your content man 👍. This build is gonna turn out very cool
Joys of setting up suspension. One thing you might consider is two axle housings. Leaf spring like the Mustang and Coil Spring. This would make swaps easier. Another idea is to have rod brackets and spring perches as glue-on items. Looking forward to the finished model and then buying the kit for my Olds 442.
We've been working on some leaf spring/coil spring set ups. Kind of a compromise for those who want to use leaf springs for their builds. Still a lot of work needed to "perfect it" but It's interesting regardless and has been highly requested. Look out for a video on this coming in the near future.
I really love this build as a love maximum detail and realism. Looking great so far!

Great progress on the build! A lot of moving parts for such a tiny car but vital you get the geometry right and have full suspension movement/ articulation. A bit of a compromise if you're using a stock chassis that was never designed to actually support the car!
Thank you. I guess to be fair, I wouldn't need to modify the chassis so much if I used leaf springs like the real car, but with a 3-Link set up, a little more hacking is required.

Scx24 and enduro 24 axles are quite a bit wider than you ma-10. Plus they're a lot more bulkier. To the point where you have to cut most of the floor pan out.
Great video as always. how about making the front axle mount, spring mount as a one piece collar design screwed together like a clmap so it slides along the axle and people could move the mounts in or out as required for different kits. keep up the good work.
Thank you! Great minds think alike. We are working on a similar set up to what you describe however it will work with leaf springs rather the 3-Link set up. Both the "collar" and having the mounts as a part of the housing have their own advantages and disadvantages but we look forward to making more options available to all the builders in our community. Stay tuned for more info on that.
I would like to see you build a nascar model into a rc car with working steering I don't think I've ever seen it be done before
I'd love to make some stock cars and/or dirt oval cars but I'd also want to build a oval track I can run them on. A vintage NASCAR might be cool too.

Great Detail. Worth the wait, as always. Always reminds me to bring my printed kit down for assembly. For these small parts, do you 3d print with resin primarily?
Yes, most of the time I use a resin SLA printer for small parts, however we try to design as many components as we can that can be FDM 3D printed.

I'd be tempted to suspend the rear of the car using leaf springs since the car is already designed for this system - no cutting necessary. I've used thin brass sheet to make working leafs for a 1/24th scale car. It was much easier to do that I thought it would be.
Interesting, I've never heard of using brass sheets but that sounds promising. How well do they work and are they holding up with use?
@@MakeItRC Sorry, this was many decades ago when I was just a pup. I used what was available at the time; some brass sheet material cut into strips and make the leafs and it seemed to work perfectly One advantage to this material is that it's easy to form (the ends of the main leaf need to be formed into a tube to provide attachment points similar to the 1:1 component) and yet it still retains similar characteristics as actual spring material. The spring rate can be tuned by stacking shorter leafs together - just like the springs on many of our 1/10 trail trucks. I recall that the spring stack was simply epoxied to the axle housing and the ends fastened to the chassis and shackles (also made from brass sheet) using tiny screws. By the way, for bevel gears in the axle, I used gears from my tiny slot cars. Today, we can simply print our gears. Oh happy day! Some day I want to use what I've learned by watching your YT channel and build an ultra-scale 4x4 Blazer in 1/24 scale. Thank you!

How much would it be for this kind of set up?
Just for the MA10 axle and suspension? Around $60USD if I recall correctly or about $20ish if you'll be 3D printing all your own plastic/resin parts.
