Molly Hatchet should be in the rock n roll hall of fame. They are southern rock masters. From Danny to Jimmy to Bobby these guys always delivered the goods on every LP.
“Stand on it Duane!” When I was a kid, Flirtin’ With Disaster was up there with HighWay To Hell, Back in Black, Number of the Beast, Toys In The Attic, Blizzard of Oz - the true heavyweight champion of the world type hard rock albums of the era. Danny was a beast of a singer.
My FIRST concert in 1978, in Dodge City, Kansas. I watched Dave Hlubeck play with a remote control tank, in the parking lot. They were all cool and let us come back stage. Yes, they had the First LP's Art on the BUS. The BEST concert I ever attended and it my FIRST. Yes, they are in TOP TEN favorites. Yes, they let us have some beer! Good old days!
Always loved Danny Joe Browns vocals. Died so young/ 53 / complications from diabetes. Having a juvenile diabetic daughter and seeing what she goes through on a daily basis/ I can total respect and appreciate what this gentleman must have went through as a musician and person. Thanks again PETE !!
that's the problem that fellow's a lot of these good old Boy southern rock bands..not living out in Hollywood still living back down home and that back down home diet comes back to get you if you don't take care of yourself..many let themselves go did not stay in shape but just kept on continuing the party andFather Time catches up quick throw-in the partying and a big greasy diet..
I grew up loving Molly Hatchet and Danny Joe Brown with his distinctive voice. Their guitar army attack was always bad ass especially live! I got to see them live like 3-4 times. I’m 53 and it really does feel too young to die!
@@robert.m4676 and solos ya always knew who it was because Danny Joe Brown would let out a wolf whistle and then point to which soilder in the triple attack guitar army would step up wail
Love ya Pete and stay safe. Give Jeff Young my best too. Being from FL always loved Molly Hatchet. Great hard tunes! Loved album covers as a D&D player too.
The clean production of their debut album did and still does blow my mind. I know Bobby to an extent and really grateful for what he's done to keep the band rocking.
Thanks man for doing this one. Ronnie Van Zant was gonna produce their first album if not for that damn flying coffin incident . Dave Hlubek was a monster guitar player . Everybody needs to listen to fall of the piece makers at least once and you will not be disapointed .

I’m a Jax native and it was common to run into some of the guys from Molly Hatchet and our other “Southern Rock” bands. Banner Thomas (bassist) worked at the music store where I bought my first electric guitar and amp...had a great sense of humor and was a blast to talk to! MH really had the three lead guitar formula down and took it to another level! ✌🏻🎸🎼
Molly Hatchet were always my favourite Southern Rock band. Skynyrds best songs were probably better, but over all Molly Hatchet did it for me. The solos on the first few albums are in my blood!
Southern Rock at its best ! Molly Hatchet was the best & I got to see them live in NH and they let us longhairs sit on stage . Great that u did this video .
I only saw then once at a relatively small club in Winston-Salem. They had just released No Guts, No Glory. It was a fantastic show! My ears rang for 2 days, but it was worth it! Sad knowing 4 of the 6 on stage that night are now gone. Thanks Mr. Pardo for what you do! Really enjoying your channel!
I just saw them this July 2022, fan fucking tastic!!! Sounds just like the original. I had a blast. I encourage everyone to go see them even though it's not the original lineup, their music lives on.
I would have flipped #1 & #2 from Pete's call on these. But you can't go wrong with either one! Boogie no More is my favorite off of Flirtin'. I probably liked them more than any other southern rock band.
Flirtin' with Disaster is my favorite Molly Hatchet album with the title track being my favorite song by them. No doubt about it! That song was featured in EA Sports NASCAR 98 on the PlayStation 1 console. You remember that video game, Pete? I do!
My number one southern rock band! I respect Bobby for keeping these songs on the stage and the last live album was actually pretty damn good. DJB was such a force to be reckoned with!
MH was my first concert! 1983 Astroworld! Woo HOO! I remember there was a fight right behind me. 👌 I remember loving the version of "Crossroads" that they played at the show.
Thanks for this review I really appreciate it. Lots of good hard rock on a lot of these albums for those catching back up with Molly Hatchet through all the personal changes and deaths this review will help you to enjoy some good kick butt southern Rock & Roll. Lots of loss of great musicians and great rockers I miss a lot of those guys. Still I’m glad to have these hard rock gems
After my friends 60th birthday party in Feb. I was reminded of my disdain for southern rock back in the 70's. So I decided to re-visit the Outlaws-Lynyrd Skynyrd-Poco-and Molly Hatchet. Because a lot has changed. So I got their first 5 CD's and, I have finally made my peace with southern rock. Then you put this up and I had no idea they had that many albums. I have some catching up to do. Allman Brothers Live Concerts 1970-1973... I have so many. I do not own one Allman Brothers studio album. But liking the Molly Hatchets and Outlaws. Are Head East a southern Rock band?
My driving instructor was a huge southern rock fan. I converted LPs to tapes so he could play them in his car and he gave me free lessons. Molly Hatchet was one of our favs. God bless them for getting my driving licence for free!
Great Band, Awesome Album Covers. Ranking the Hatchet 12 - Justice 11 - Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge 10 - Kingdom of XII 9 - Silent Reign of Heroes 8 - Devil's Canyon 7 - Lightning strikes twice 6 - Take no Prisoners 5 - Beatin the Odds 4 - The Deed is Done 3 - No Guts... No Glory 2 - Flirtin' with Disaster 1 - Molly Hatchet 1978 To Me, nothing can beat that Debut.
For me the years with DJB singing are the Best of Molly Hatchet. I worked for a lighting, sound and production company based in Florida and did a lot of shows with them, Blackfoot and The Outlaws in 1984 and the addition of John Galvin on keyboards was one of the best sounding lineups they had IMHO. Great band that survived a lot as you said.
I love Hatchet!! I caught Dave Hlubeck"s guitar pick at the Jantzen Beach Arena (Portland OR) in 1980. Pete, where do you get your T-Shirts? I'm envious of your wardrobe!!
Flirtin’ with disaster is the only one I have, SO FAR, but a great album and a great band. You always give me great ideas to add to my collection Pete. Thank you
Danny Joe Brown or bust. He represented the spirit of the sound. I know you are aware if it, Pete, but surprised you didn't mention that the Allmans originally did Dreams I'll Never See. Hatchet did a really good cover of it.

I really like Molly Hatchet, they brought a lot to the table for Southern Rock, and were original as well. I liked their album covers as well. Good stuff Pete!
I first heard and saw MH as an opening act for Bob Sefer (29 Dec 1978) and as with Rush I went out the next day and bought their first album. The last time I saw them as as a band on the bill at a RibFest. I always enjoyed all of their music. I really bought all their stuff into the nineties. I’m just a sucker for hard southern rock although I grew up in Pittsburgh.
Christmas 1979, my MOM said i could pick out 2 albums. I was 15, I picked out Flirting and Harder...Faster by April Wine. MY buddies older brother had both, that i had heard a few months earlier. I was blown away by Hatchet. We were hard rock lovers, but Hatchet was heavy with almost a "country type" singer we said. They came to our city, Cedar Rapids Iowa, a year later , Dec. 80 with new vocalist Jimmy Farrar on the Beatin the Odds Tour. MSG opened!! Last time i saw Hatchet was 1993 version in Germany . Danny Joe was only original left, and he did not look good, but sang his ass off. Still, one of my favorite all time bands. 1)Flirtin With Disaster 2) Debut 3)Beatin the Odds 4) The Deed is Done but for my favorite Hatchet listening pleasure is the LIVE AT ALGORA, cd recorded in ATLANTA on the FLIRTIN tour, that came out about 10 years ago.
I was lucky enough to see the original lineup at Reading rock festival in 1979. Not many people in the crowd had heard of them, but they went down a storm.
Your ranking is excellent. After listening to you I need to be more open about the non original band members and give them a chance. Somehow I was not even listening to the records after the original members and especially Danny Joe Brown left. Well done

Saw them open for Triumph at Providence Civic Center 1985, Great Live Band! R.I.P Danny Joe and the other members. 1. Flirtin 2. Debut 3. No Guts 4. Beatin 5. Deed 6. Take No 7. Lightning
I'm only familiar with "Flirtin' With Disaster". The only MH album released in my country, which I bought based on the cover art since I didn't know anything about them at the time. And I love it.
Really man, thank you for the videos. Hatchet is one of my favourite bands and by far my favourite southern rock one. Love their "recent" stuff too. Devil's Canyon is a Titan..
I bought "Beatin' the Odds" in 1980 and back in the day, i thought that "Poison Pen" is is the Single Greatest Song of all time. To this day, I think I'm not that wrong!
Molly Hatchet played at Saloon Studios in NC a few years ago. Saloon Studios is a small venue, only holds about 200. The best concert that I have ever been to! We got to meet the band and get a vintage poster signed. Unfortunately, Bobby Ingram passed away a few months later. So glad that I got the opportunity to see them in concert one more time. If and when the virus goes away, take the time to check out Saloon Studios. My husband and I have been to 3 concerts there, it is such a cool place!
Dave Hlubek was a founding member of MH and he re-joined the band in 2005 and remained in the band until his death in 2017. Phil McCormack joined in 1995 and remained in the band until his death in April of 2019.
As a musician, My dad got me into Skynyrd , Molly Hatchet , Allman Brothers , Blackfoot. I’ll say the first five and No Guts, No Glory are my favorites! My top two are the self titled and Flirtin’ with Disaster. I played Flirtin’ live many times! It’s a fun drum part to play! Been a drummer since I was 11 years old. So , these albums mean so much to me!
I saw them twice. First was at The Station in Wilkes-Barre,Pa. with the original line-up. Close to the stage and man I thought Dave and Duane were going to bend the necks off their guitars.....great show! A few years later with Jimmy Farrar in Scranton and that was a good show too. After that they started falling apart.
Thank you Pete. Had no idea they recorded so many albums under the MH name. Does it matter who plays on them? Maybe, but the most important thing is they're keeping the flag flying.
Only time I saw them also was for " Beatin The Odds" Somewhere around 1981 in New Haven. I can't exactly remember the opening act . It was a Metal band though. Krokus or Accept I think
Amazing guitars in this band. I'm not hugely into southern rock, with the exception of two or three bands (including Molly). I think their catalogue was surprisingly consistent over the years. Favorites have to be Take No Prisoners and the '78 debut. Gator Country makes me think of a lot of my childhood in Florida...
I just want to keep it down to top 10 picks: **. The Deed Is Done (1984) this album suffered in production or recording 10. Lightning Strike Twice 9. The Devil's Canyon 8. Silent Reign of Heroes 7. Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge 6. Take No Prisoners 5. Kingdom of the XII 4. No Guts ... No Glory 3. Beatin' The Odds 2. Molly Hatchet (debute) 1. Flirtin' With Disaster
I first saw them just after their first album came out (for three dollars!) at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, in Southern California, 1978. The first three albums, in that order, would be my favorites. I thought Danny Joe Brown and Jimmy Farrar were both great vocalists. Jimmy had a smoother voice, and Danny Joe the front man's stage presence. Whichever Molly Hatchet line up you saw, you saw a great show. Twice, in Florida, I saw them sandwiched between .38 Special (who opened) and the headlining Outlaws. In those days, your ears would ring for hours after the show. Getting too close may have been hazardous to your health.
My list does not contain albums I don't own, but my top four is the same. I place Devil's Canyon at 5--because I saw them perform several songs off this album with Danny Joe Brown before he passed away. This concert and CD were special for this reason, so I had to give it some love. It was this performance that made me a fan, and I started collecting their music shortly thereafter. The album was slated to be released before his health took a turn for the worse, then Phil was brought into the band to replace him before the final tracks were cut and released in the studio album. Because of this I'm not sure that DJB's vocals were totally excised from the recording--but they may have been. Seeing them live was awesome. DJB was the definitive front-man for a Southern Rock band--whipping up a fury playing off the Alabama/Florida football rivalry in the Deep South. When they left stage, with two encores following, Kansas played songs from the "Freaks of Nature" album with new keyboardist Greg Roberts in tow, and that was a brilliant show with multiple encores as well. Both bands cooked--but they contrast styles was compelling. Being a total prog head in the crowd, I dug them a lot--but most of the Southern Rock fans clearly didn't get the music. The pot smoke was thick--and the complaints were lobbed their way throughout. As for me I sang along with most of the songs on the set, list and enjoyed the experience fully. Clearly, in retrospect, both Steve Walsh and Danny Joe were very ill--emaciated and requiring frequent breaks to conserve energy. But both bands were on fire. The Georgia Satellites? Not so good.
Molly Hatchet, one of my Fav bands when I was a kid in the 70s. I agree with your top three ranking. Flirtin', Molly Hatchet and Beating the Odds. I would put No Guts, No Glory ahead of Take No Prisoners' and Warrior/Rainbow Bridge higher
Went to see them on Flirtin with Disaster tour. It was awesome I always thouht of them like the southerns alternative to the Scorpions. This being because of the multiple guitars and powerful vocals. I actually think thier debut is thier best album. Every song is spot on. Very few albums consist of every song being that strong. Considering how long they had been performing those songs prior to a recording contract. It is no wonder how spectacular thier freshman effort was they had years to perfect it. Don't get me wrong I love thier sophmpre effort Flirtin with Disaster is easly one of the best performed songs I've ever witnessed and I've seen many. Their subsequent albums were never quite as good as the first two his vocal performance on those two releases were unmatched. I grew up on Southern Rock and Molly Hatchet and that music will always resonate.
I saw Molly Hatchet live yesterday in Connecticut. I used to see Molly Hatchet t-shirts back in high school, but I never got familiar with their music, so I have no commitment to the original line-up. All I can say is that the band I saw yesterday put on a great show, and the music holds up. if you want to say they are a glorified cover band, that's fine, but it didn't look like anyone in the crowd was displeased.
Talking about Southern Rock music and bands should we have a Ranking the Studio Albums of The Black Crowes? I need to check back with your playlist but I believe there isn't a show on this particular band yet. Arguably the best Rock band to come out of the Nineties. Cheers!
I must confess that this band is a late discovery for me. I missed them originally when they appeared in the late 70s (because of the covers that had me put them in the wrong genre and never invited me to listen) and then I had trouble because of their line-up history. But once I got Flirtin' with Disaster I started to dig up the rest and found them a real good band. The problem with them was they were not too unique - for each song you always had this "sounds a lot like xxxxx" feeling (good if xxxxx is a band you like as well). 1. Flirtin' With Disaster 2. Beatin' the Odds 3. Molly Hatchet 4. Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge 5. Lightning Strikes Twice 6. Take No Prisoners 7. No Guts No Glory 8. The Deed is Done 9. Justice 10. Devil's Canyon 11. Silent Reign of Heroes
Say what you want about Molly Hatchet's music, but you can't deny they had the most awesome album covers!
drawn by Frank Frazetta. he drew Conan in the beginning. RIP Frank

What a line up. Love triumph
I'm only familiar with "Flirtin' With Disaster". The only MH album released in my country, which I bought based on the cover art since I didn't know anything about them at the time. And I love it.
Thanks for a great video. Tied for my 2 favorites are "Devil's Canyon" and "No Guts No Glory"
Saw them in 78&79 with AC/DC outstanding singer Mr Brown
Really man, thank you for the videos. Hatchet is one of my favourite bands and by far my favourite southern rock one. Love their "recent" stuff too. Devil's Canyon is a Titan..
One Last Ride is the ultimate bike song. Sons of Anarchy should have ended with it...
Excellent! Never heard it till now
I bought "Beatin' the Odds" in 1980 and back in the day, i thought that "Poison Pen" is is the Single Greatest Song of all time. To this day, I think I'm not that wrong!
Hey Pete, quick question, would you ever do a show on Ranking the albums of Asia or Foreigner?
Molly Hatchet played at Saloon Studios in NC a few years ago. Saloon Studios is a small venue, only holds about 200. The best concert that I have ever been to! We got to meet the band and get a vintage poster signed. Unfortunately, Bobby Ingram passed away a few months later. So glad that I got the opportunity to see them in concert one more time. If and when the virus goes away, take the time to check out Saloon Studios. My husband and I have been to 3 concerts there, it is such a cool place!
What?Bobby Ingram dead?Don't think so.
Bobby Ingram is still alive.
I love “The Rambler,” too. Yeee-haw!
Dave Hlubek was a founding member of MH and he re-joined the band in 2005 and remained in the band until his death in 2017. Phil McCormack joined in 1995 and remained in the band until his death in April of 2019.
As a musician,
My dad got me into Skynyrd , Molly Hatchet , Allman Brothers , Blackfoot.
I’ll say the first five and No Guts, No Glory are my favorites! My top two are the self titled and Flirtin’ with Disaster. I played Flirtin’ live many times! It’s a fun drum part to play! Been a drummer since I was 11 years old. So , these albums mean so much to me!
As always a great review. Greetings from Brazil.
Late 80s in Boston, Dave and Duane and riff and danny, best club show of m my life out of thousands
that's awesome, today I just received the 5 CD Box with the first 5 Albums.
Love for u to cover Blackfoot they are my favorite south band
Great list Pete. I like the first album a bit better than Flirtin though. All good rock though. Thanks
I've seen them here in Germany once a year; mainly in Hamburg, but last year the also came to my home town Flensburg
Thank you for the break down of the album's.
They have a new live CD out now called Battleground.came out in December 2019.
Finally Some Ass Kicking Southern Rock.!!^^^^^^^
I just want to keep it down to top 10 picks:
**. The Deed Is Done (1984) this album suffered in production or recording
10. Lightning Strike Twice
9. The Devil's Canyon
8. Silent Reign of Heroes
7. Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge
6. Take No Prisoners
5. Kingdom of the XII
4. No Guts ... No Glory
3. Beatin' The Odds
2. Molly Hatchet (debute)
Dang, Pete! You got a shirt for every band you do a video of! Impressive. Frazetta FTW.
I love this band, great rank Pete! 🍻
Can you do one on Black Oak Arkansas please if you haven't done yet. Thanks enjoy watching
BOA are awesome .
Awesome ranking!!!
All Molly Hatchet fans also need to get Danny Joe Brown’s solo album. It kicks ass!
I tell everybody that record is my 3rd favorite MH album lol! Edge of Sundown is classic
Yes it does!!
Hey Pete, how about your favorite Blackfoot records?
Great video.... but I would put the debut at number one and Flirtin’ at number two.
I agree with your list
1. Flirtin' With Disaster
2. Beatin' the Odds
3. Molly Hatchet
4. Warriors of the Rainbow Bridge
5. Lightning Strikes Twice
6. Take No Prisoners
7. No Guts No Glory
8. The Deed is Done
9. Justice
10. Devil's Canyon
11. Silent Reign of Heroes
Live in Jacksonville, 1983 is a good one....Hlubek is on fire!
