I have been a couple of years with R9M with no issues, then I have changed to crossfire with the Tango 2. In a few months I have had 2 failsafes at 120m. So I've decided to change to ELRS and since then I am happy having the same range, with much better refresh rate and way cheeper receivers. And the best is that ELRS is open source.
For anyone doing it - make sure to switch to 250hz in the Lua script. As you could see even in the video, on 500hz it reports only ~215 packets. Tango as it is today supports only rate up to 250hz. Also, it can only run 250mw.
I have a Tango 2 and just picked up an ELRS module to take advantage of AIO whoop boards with built-in ELRS because I’m tired of Frsky failsafes. The cheaper component cost is also a benefit, with how pricey everything is going too.. Being able to fly 1-2s micros with the same peace of mind as my larger crossfire quads just makes sense to me.
nice intro ;) I wish we could use the ribbon cable to connect directly to a pcb module bypassing the need for bulky pins in the bay... it would result in a much more compact form factor.
Make sure you change to 250hz. You can see in the lua at top right that it’s showing 215hz. That’s because you have it set to 500hz and tango can’t do that. Change to 250 and then it will show 250hz in top right of lua

Did it a couple months ago with the Slim Pro. I use Crossfire on anything bigger than 2.5 inches and ELRS on everything smaller (save two Redpine whoops). It is a great combo and is still my favorite controller.
4:55 The important difference between binding phrase and Wi-Fi password is that the Wi-Fi password is a secret while the binding phrase is explicitly public. It’s not a security feature, just a selector/matcher feature.
More of a feeling than a proven fact but maybe still worth considering: in areas with high density of high powered mobile antennas (like the area where I live), the likelyhood of your rc link being taken out by one of those antennas on 915Hz is a lot higher than on 2.4mHz, while the range of both Crossfire vs 2.4mHz ELRS is way beyond what most quads can go anyways. I think that might be a reason for some to switch, at least for me.
Aio and substantially cheaper and lighter rxs were the deciding factor for me. I love my small clean builds and crossfire just isn't the best option in any of those regards any more.
Yep,why would you use a Tango2 if your Crossfired already..... =I,m "curious"about Express LRS ..and don,t want to buy another tx just to experiment...hence I,m going to use the Tango2. SURELY...Trappy will bring something out to compete with Express LRS...I,m sure he doesn,t want TBS closing down?

7:26 min - the problem is that the switches are different (/ in a different position ?!) . You need to match up the inputs / mixer right to make it work in a similar way as the main radio.
This almost drove me insane after I spent 3 days trying to figure out what I had done wrong to get my new mobula6 elrs to bind to the elrs module on my tango2. All I ended up having to do was lower the PID loop frequency to 2k and overclock the FC to 120mhz.. The ELRS link was fine but because you have to build and flash the elrs module firmware yourself I thought that had to be the issue.
the packet rate at the top seems to indicate that its only runing at 215hz instead of 500, i guess tbs is doing something to lock out elrs lol. Also tbs agent lua works with elrs so you dont even need to download anything:D
I am running 250hz and that's working solid, I had the exact same thing on my Tango on 500 hz. Need to wait for EdgeTX release for 500hz packet rate and gimbal polling, I believe. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong I'm sure. Saw UAVTech commented something similar.
When I plug in my happy model Slim pro 2 2.4 it does not suggest or identify a com port. It reads “manual serial device selection. Do you know what might be wrong?

Here are the things that ELRS does better than CRSF: ELRS is about 1/2 to 2/3 the price; ELRS runs in 2.4 GHz which has smaller antennas, less interference from other pilots, and can run at higher frequency (lower latency); ELRS can run up to 500 Hz. I did this about a month ago as part of switching my whoops over to ELRS SPI AIO boards. So happy I did! No more fail safes in the house.

Thanks for the walkthrough sir. Now all the Tango 2 is missing is EdgeTX. Hopefully in EdgeTX 2.7 this spring/summer...

7:00 - yours was at 215hz packet rate vs. the 500hz selected. Check to see if increasing Baud rate to 400,000 fixes it.
Won't help. Freedom tx is not capable of 500Hz...
