I love this set. While I’ve seen projections like this using shadows (Pigpen Theatre’s “The Old Man and the Old Moon” comes to mind), I’ve never seen the scale synced to place the actors in the scene. Usually, it works as a cut from live action to shadow puppet scale, then back. This is brilliant. I’m working on a design for a middle school production of Midsummer Night’s Dream and I love the aesthetic here of things growing and expanding from other pieces, like the building in the suitcase. I recently saw a set that was completely contained inside a large wheeled crate and am playing around with that idea too. I really like the back wall fabric strips in this set. I was imaging doing something like that to represent the forest and then have something else representing Athens that could sit in front of it for the first and last act. Great food for thought.
I started working in live theatre and variety when I was 8 years old and I am now almost 75, and have lived a wonderful theatre life. This is pure Amdram, letting children design the set and putting her name to it. (That's pretty sad)
Then I think you've forgotten what it's like to be a kid Pretty sure she came up with the idea and could have just as easily made the paper buildings herself. This is a great idea imo as it gets the kids involved in the theater in a small but large way. I would have loved this as a child
This design is incredible, so clever!
This is great, the development to how you got your ideas and the the props and lighting used all fitted well together!
Brilliant!!!!
I’ll be chewing on that one for a while.
Now I want to know more.
