I had to sell my OG minilogue and am fortunate enough to own an XD, which is a significant improvement I feel to an already wonderful instrument. It lives in my studio going through a pair of distressors and an ssl fusion. It's so fun with pedals like the OBNE Dweller, Fairfield Circuitry Shallow Water, or of course any sweet fuzz pedal. Great to see a community of people getting lost in the fun of playing this synth!
Loving this. I'm a big fan of Tycho, and I guess a lot of his work was done on the Minilogue. Tempted to dive into this world (didn't realize this was actually semi-affordable, haha). Looks so relaxing and fun.
Minilogue wasn't out until 2016, by that time 'Dive' and 'Awake' had already been released and 'Epoch' was WIP. Scott operates primarily Moog Minimoog Model D and Access Virus KC. You can see it e.g. on the live KEXP concert.
Man, I just saw someone using the black and red minilogue bass and was looking for synthwave videos with it and found this. It sounds amazing, dude. Cheers!
Just a heads up if you're still looking, the minilogue bass is exactly the same as the regular minilogue aside from it's color. Idk why they called it the minilogue bass haha. It looks extra dope but it's the same exact synth
that was awesome, any chance you could do a small breakdown of how you made this ? are you simply playing notes /arp over a recorded modulation track ?
Hi, what effects were used? Or was it all built in effects? Also I didn’t realize, but can you play the minilogue even while it is playing a sequence? So cool
Haha. Yeah it's all effects from the Minilogue. The Minilogue is 4 voice polyphonic so you can use one voice for the sequence and then you have 3 left for the keyboard. Or you can use 2 for the sequencer and then youre left with 2 for the keyboard etc etc
@@parker9243 very cool, tysm for the answer. Been looking at this for like 3 years but because idk much about synths I’ve been hesitant to buy it haha. Hoping this year to bite the gun 😁
Your sound is super fresh. Looking at a MacBook to pair with my xd. Any recommendations? Looks like you have an air that suffices. Keep creating content!🙌
Yeah it's a HP Pavillion hahaha. It's a few years old now. It's a good laptop but it is just a good basic one. I'm no expert I must admit but I could definitely do with a more powerful one 😅
Thanks so much. No the Minilogue is Polyphonic up to 4 voices and you can share them between the keyboard and the Sequencer. This was all done in one take playing alongside the sequencer x
Ahh i see, thats so fun! i have microkorg at home, it says 4 voices polyphonic too, but i dont think i can play the keys while the arp is on without triggering the arp? Do u think its possible to do in a microkorg?
@@huntingcicadas8774 I must be honest I've never played a microkorg but if the only sequencer it has is the arp then you probably won't be able too. The Minilogue has an arp but it also has just a stand alone sequencer which I primarily use that just plays on a loop using the notes that you've programmed in. x
@@parker9243 would you consider this to be a good “beginner” piece of gear? I play guitar but I really want to dive into this world but idk where to start. I like the korg nanokey and nanokontrol but idk if they’re actually good or not
@@grenade.turtle oh 100 percent. I started the exact same way. I'm actually a way more experienced guitarist myself. I would either go for the korg Minilogue xd or the korg monologue. The monologue is way cheaper and serves as an easy introduction to synthesis. But it is only monophonic and also has experimental synthesis in mind and has a wonderfully unique sound and style. The Minilogue xd however is possibly the most versatile 'affordable' synth on the market. If you want big 80s pads, minimoog style bass, or whatever you want to emulate you can do it on the minilogue xd. It obviously won't sound 'exactly' like Moog and things, but it still sounds fantastic. And as I say, it's affordable compared to most synths and I have emulated some ARP Odyssey style things on it in the past and it sounds pretty spot on. So it depends on what you need a synth for. But if you're wanting to expand into becoming a full synthesist/keyboardist then the minilogue xd is the way to go x
@@parker9243 no man it’s all good. I love the info. Are you familiar with Snakes Of Russia? If not look him up and that’s kind of what I would love to expand into and I’m just looking for a starting point so any and all info and opinions are appreciated
