You can also stand up a proxy for POP3 that honors older clients "on prem" and negotiates secure connections with modern standards at your provider. In the early 90s, my days of my Amiga connected Novell file server and using ISDN, it wasn’t cheap having a cap and the added cost being over the limit (so many d/l Usenet groups and files). I moved to DSL and was lucky enough to have the CO right down the street. I need to upgrade Amiga’s Miami TCP/IP stack I use.

It worked great, but we are happy when they finally got cable down in that neighborhood and got them up to a much better speed.

I had my Amigas networked another way. Yes, I had a fast modem on my A2000/2630, but I also had that connected via ethernet to my kids' two A3000s. Yes, I had three Amigas networked together in my home via thinnet before the internet was available to regular consumers. Then I installed Dale Luck's X-Windows and began controlling Unix servers/slaves at MSU. Dear God that was painful over a phone modem! But at the same time it was exciting! The Amiga always lacked in the web browser area, though. We were late to incorporate "frames," etc. Still, I loved that time. We were so far ahead of everyone else in the early 1990's. Actually we were so far ahead of everyone else from the mid-eighties on until Commodore's demise. I had a CD-R/W drive and a tape backup running on a cron utility thirty years ago. PC users had recently graduated from the green v. amber screen arguments into real color CRTs!

Sigh. I went to go install the smb handler on my A2K system with X-Surf card only to discover that my OS 3.2.1 system is no longer recognized. I ruled out a hardware fault with my accelerator's scsi and my scsi2sd card. The 32GB SD card was pulled and placed into my Win PC. Looks to be a problem with the media as WinUAE can no longer detect any RDB info. I did make a backup drive file of the system partition so that is a relief but my other two partitions (dh1, dh2) could be lost. Do you happen to know of any good SD recovery programs? I guess they will need to not care about the Amiga file system. Even better if something existed that *could* detect it. I only used the standard FFS compatible with OS 3.2.x. Thinking back to my recent activity on the same Windows box....I was using the Disk Manager to reorder my drive assignments but at no point did I modify the SD card. I do have the USB cable going from the scsi2sd card to the PC so that I can directly access the SD card from WinUAE. Interestingly and something that could be related, I had inconsistent recognition of the defined 32GB drive using the scsi2sd utility. If it wasn't seen in the util, I know I would have trouble from WinUAE. At the same time, the real hardware did not have any trouble seeing it....until today. :( Perhaps the SD was slowly dying.

Has anyone tried installing this on a fresh OS 3.2.1 install? I've tried this on an A3000 and A1200 with fresh installs and it's not working. I did get this working on another A1200 with an older configuration (in use for years). No such luck on the freshly installed OSes - could there be some dependencies I'm missing?

Installing which part after a new install? I talk about so many darn things in this video... Which one is not working? A few of the programs like twittAmiga and SimpleMail may need some MCC (mui) libraries installed. Those are easy to miss in the readme files.

@@10MARC Thanks Doug - yeah I'm fairly sure I'm doing it right, especially since I do have it working on one machine. I'm just trying to figure out why it's not working for me on new installs. For instance, on my A1200 I've installed 3.2.1, Prism2v2 and Roadshow - that's it. Works great, but then when I install smb2-handler and the library I'm not having any luck with it, which leads me to think I might be missing something else.

    • @tufacker

Figured it out - the device doesn't actually mount until you 'cd' to it. This is different behavior than on my working systems, but I assume you can modify this with the handler parameters. Looks like it works fine!

Not having luck with the SMB setup. Have both files in place and the mountlist looks correct. Trying to mount results in nothing. Kinda stumped!

@@10MARC Hi! I'm trying to connect to a synology NAS on an existing SMB share (which supports SMB1-3). I've got smb2-handler v53.2 in L: and filesysbox.library v54.0 in LIBS:, and my mountlist looks just like yours. I added a host entry so I could look up the NAS by name (but tried by IP as well). Whenever I try mounting nothing happens - if I retry it says SMB: is already mounted (SMB is what I called the mount).
