Thanks very much! This is just part 1 of the series, part 2 is already available at ua-cam.com/video/S6zDLTx7Acc/v-deo.html and part 3 is in the final stages of editing :)
Hey 2023 people, its now 2024 and soon to be 2025! I'm very tempted to do another Metroidvania in the New Year... I think 2 years is a long enough time to get over the last one! 😂
I found this looking for something to listen to this year in this same project! I heard the intro and was like "Are we doing the same project?" And then found this was last year. Great job though!
Thanks very much! Doing the Metroidvania Month jam was a lot of fun, though I totally underestimated how much work was involved in making one! Funnily enough I'm making the exact same mistake with the RTS game I'm making at the moment too... you'd think I'd learn! :D
Thanks very much! Happy to put something together if you would like... It's a bit reliant on the state machine that I'm using, but I can probably create a significantly simpler example given a bit of time.
How you made level change like metroidvania style ? I mean you don't change the level when you enter another room, you can go back to the previous room.
Hi Bertan, thanks for the question! I actually cover how I do this in the next video, but basically i have an Area2D and 2 Position2D nodes (top left and bottom right bounds) for each room - when the player enters the Area2D, the camera limits are set to the Position2Ds for that room... Hope that makes sense, but I'd obviously recommend watching the next video when its out for a better explanation!
It isn't at the moment, and to be honest the final code is a little... messy. Another viewer requested some more detail regarding how I implemented the triple attack combo, so I think that I might create a short tutorial-style video that covers both the controller and the state machine in a more easy-to-understand fashion. I can then push that code up to a public repository so that you can read it at leisure.
Bit of a random question, but any chance you know where the picture from the background of your trello is from? Awesome video, btw, never thought such a high quality metroidvania could be made in so little time!
Thanks very much! The trello background is this one unsplash.com/photos/21DP3hytVHw - I simply searched for "castle" when setting the background within and just picked a nice looking photo! :D
This is very well done I would love to see more!

Hey people of the past, it is now 2023 and I'm taking place in metroidvania month 22 :), 2023 isnt really much better than 2022 tbf, but wish me luck.

Do you teach us about this physics in your game some day?
Great video btw, im sorry but what notebook app was it that you were using?
Thanks! Its Joplin (joplinapp.org/) - I really like it!
great job ,
can you please do a tutorial about that combo attack, when you press multiple times the same key ?

@@stingly thanks for the reply, I will be waiting for your new videos
Hi, what app are you using for your moodboard? (11:22)
Hi! The app is called Joplin (joplinapp.org) - it's free, open source and cross-platform 😁
@@stingly thank you. 🍻
This looks awesome. I'm currently going through Metroidvania game jam 16. Hope i can finish it too
Good luck! It was a lot of fun, but a lot of work too! :D

And I'll watch next video
BTW is the player controller source available? Just learning Godot and it would be a great help to be able scroll though it in person?

He's so quiet
the music is very loud compared to your voice, it's very hard to listen.
Sorry about that, it seems to be a common complaint that I have attempted to address in the latest part of the series...
@@stingly Honestly don't know what speakers some people watch this on. Don't worry dude you sound totally fine.
