There isn't any other Radiohead song that sounds like In Limbo, it's such a unique track. Thom vocal melody at the end is absolutely beautiful, it's almost a shame it gets cut off by the beautiful distorted noise ending.

omg it makes me so happy that this is someone's favorite as well. Possibly my favorite out of all of their songs, but it's extremely hard to choose. I've always heard this track as a searching/detective kind of vibe, with the repetitive guitar line repeating over and over, like checking tracks or corners that you've already looked at multiple times to try and find some sort of clue that's never there, as well as with Thom's vocals and lyrics of being lost at sea and having a message that he can't read/understand. He's living in a fantasy if he believes that he will find or figure out the message/clue. The ending feels like it conveys this constant searching continuously going on forever with the delays and looping.

I feel like In Limbo and Idioteque are kind of the crescendo of the theme of Kid A, which I interpret to be about how apocalyptic depression can feel. This is really informed by my own experiences of depression and existential crisis, and by the knowledge that Thom and Radiohead were utterly burned out by OK Computer's reception and the tour that followed. We've heard how he had writer's block afterwards and how the band nearly broke up, and how Kid A is so radically different from what came before because of the challenges that existed at the time. Kid A is very apocalyptic, it could lend itself to warfare or ecological collapse or whatever, but I think at it's root it's about grappling with despair. "In Limbo" says it all: that's what it feels like. Purgatory. Neither here nor there. The waves at the end I don't interpret to be positive or affirming; this song leads directly into Idioteque, which is one of the coolest and scariest songs I have ever heard. The panic and angst is palpable.

Here's my interpretation: this song is about a drug user, they use the drug as the way they mentally escape from this world, and the lyric "you're living in a fantasy world" is either the protagonist hearing some kind of like schizophrenic kind of voices in their head telling them that the drug world they live in is a lie and they should come back to the reality or it's the people around them telling them to stop taking drugs
And so they're like living in limbo, it's both heaven and hell

The lyrics partly come from a radio broadcast famous in England that communicates in a special, purposefully terse code, the weather forecast, specifically to vessels sailing in the seas around England, and if I'm not wrong maybe the further out

mate, I started watching your content because i love radiohead, and I find myself enjoying the facts and imagery you present to the audience, but i think you're a bad video essayist...
Idk, all you do is read facts that are available on genius, pitchfork or wikipedia, and while simply gathering knowledge CAN make for good content, you present this knowledge in such a mundane, academic, robotic way...
when you're writing an essay for college, usually there is a main point you're trying to prove, then you use evidence to prove such point, and then you conclude your thought. there are 3 simple steps for making a good video, but most of the time you just do step 2... and when you actually present a point you're trying to make, your points are so god damn boring. all your points are something along the lines of "this is so good!" or "this is perfect!" or "wow! this sure is music!!!!"
while if done well, those points can make perfectly fine video essays, why not try something more bold? like... "analyzing radiohead's reoccurring musical mannerisms" or "Kid A - the absence of human warmth is emotionally shattering" or even "how radiohead's album covers set the atmosphere for the album's music"...
a video essay takes a lot of time to make, and maybe judging by the fact you post essays every week, you're just trying to make a buck, but i don't think you'll ever grow if you don't improve your content, seriously, all you do is state facts and rarely some very superficial opinions here and there. Make it interesting idk dude.
also, I feel like your video essays lack immersion, since you just talk on top of footage that's very vaguely related to the topic being discussed. Compliment what you're saying with images, use text, put in some audio samples the band might've used or something, and do DEPPER research for your videos because they are painfully on the surface.
look I'm not gonna tell you exactly how to do it, but i really reccomend you somehow manage to make your videos more interesting, immersive, and less lazy.
These comments all seem to be a circlejerk because you're validating their obsessions, and that's a shame, because your videos are painfully structured and academic, and if this was a school, these videos would get a c-
anyways dude, I'm just some random kid on the internet, you don't have to take my advice, and the people in the comments seem to like this content so you do you. Also, i'm giving you advice but it's not like I could do what you're doing, you're certainly better than me at it! but if you do want further advice, i could send you a playlist with some really great video essays you could use as a reference in the future. you seem like a pssionate charismatic guy, and i actually would love to know someone like you irl, your content just goes against what I believe in, in terms of quality.
throughout my lifetime i have accumulated over 47 kidney stones!
    cheers.

I understand where you’re coming from, the truth is I’m extremely new to video essays and taking myself seriously enough to make them. I am currently in college and working a part time job, I really don’t have too much time to work on these videos and do all I really can. Also to be completely honest I have 0 musical knowledge. I’m a very amateur listener and am only now starting to learn more about all the little details. A lot of what I’m doing in these videos, especially the “a tribute to kid a” series is bring facts about the tracks found on those other sites and turn it into an easily digestible video. I plan on making more interesting and immersive content and as you stated, it takes time, time that I don’t have right now. My semester ends mid December and I’ll have much more time to work on the videos. And with the footage/audio thing I do that now, some of the early vids just don’t have as much editing because I was still learning how to go about it. And I think I’ll also mention the fact that I don’t really watch video essays so I don’t have much to go off, I’d appreciate some examples! Thanks for the comment I’ll definitely take all this into consideration.
