I wish they had Saab-21 and the jet version Saab 21R but Where is 23 ,25 ,27 guess only on paper ( propellerplanes 23,was a mustang/messerscmidt hybrid ) 25 and 27 was 2000hp and 2500hp planes with brittish engines .
I had a relative that used to fly J29's. What he usually did was to fly to his hometown and hit the accelerator right above his family home and just go straight up. The neighbors didn't like him
I love the Tunnan. I hope to see one fly one day. It looks similar to the Focke-Wulf Ta 183 Huckebein but according to what I've read their developments were not connected. Thank you for posting this video.
To be able to fit the engine nside it it got to look like a barrel. But think about it Mg15 and F86 sabre has the same basics and is all from the same time. J29 is the only swedish plane that been at service in a war, the Congo war. I would put F86 Sabre as the best thinking when they were new planes, J29 second and Mig15 last. Mig15 was armed and built to shoot down american bombers not facing other fighters, F17 came to late for the Korean war. Sabre was a fighterplane even f it was underpowered with .50 guns only, J29 had 20mm guns also being a Fighter. J means Hunt in swedish. A means attack meaning ground and sea attacker. But it was not the first swedish jet, an older was built. J21R was ordinary a twin boom propeller pusher with a catapultchair, rhat had its engine changet for a jet instead and getting the R in thevend. No one survived if them but some propeller J21 was keft so in modern day at least one R was build, but its not flying. Sweden used english jetengines that was built in Sweden and for a while we exported our swedishbuilt back to england as they were even built, the english ones varied much more. I think we stole an american engine too, just copied it without rights, i dont remember for what plane, but when it was peace we went iver to USA to tell about ut and preparing to pay for it, but it was all good to the americans by then and we got rights to buld newer engines legaly this time. The engines has always in every swedish jet had built by Volvo, all based on first brittish and later american already ready ones. The newest Gripen will also have an american jet, we could build one, but it would take a long time to do all tests etc, and in the end it may not be better anyway so why lose time on it?
@@silweragentum739 Nah, dude.. JAS flew in the Balkans and over Libya. Technically there's no difference between a conflict and a war. It's just semantics.
For a country that values it's neutrality so highly the Swedes have done an uncommonly excellent job designing and building not to mention flying military aircraft for a long time. YEAH SWEDEN!
I belive that this is the only J29 that still can fly. Almost 70 years old, Amazing!

Nope! I know a person who owns a J29 that can still fly!

The Tunnan did a fair amount of combat in Congo.
